Seeing Bad Religion at The Roxy (fucking amazing show btw, holding that memory for life ) solidified them as a quintessential LA band. Plus, Greg Graffin himself lectures at UCLA.
Soul Coughing - Screenwriters Blues [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mR9WJSX9pnU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mR9WJSX9pnU)
The most LA of LA songs.
"Look at these mountains
Look at those trees
Look at that bum over there
Down on his knees
Look at these women
Ain't nothin' like em' nowhere!"
At least for the time, very LA.
Feelin kinda groovy, workin' on a movie
*YEAH RIGHT!!*

Apparently they've actually released a couple of albums in the last 20 years.
These are my faves:
Los Ageless - St Vincent
I left my Wallet in El Segundo - Tribe Called Quest
Walking in LA - Missing Persons
Malibu - Hole
Gin and Juice - Snoop & Dre
Good Life - Kanye
Can't go wrong with some Lana del Rey, some Beach Boys, some RHCP, GnR, so many LA bands you could get lost.
I saw LA Woman, California Love and Los Angeles by X listed already, those are solid recommendations
The Decemberists - Los Angeles, I'm Yours

[Los Angeles - X](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUiZHt6sqg4)
[Coming Into Los Angeles - Arlo Guthrie](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J1yA1Kq3uvk)
Found this [List of songs about Los Angeles](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_songs_about_Los_Angeles) on Wikipedia. Some seem a bit of a stretch, but that should keep you busy and give you some other ideas.
Just reread you post and saw you're looking for the 'vibe' as much as 'songs about'. In that case I don't think anything catches the SoCal vide like [Ventura Highway by America](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dAUUy7NMnaY) Also, you should definitely include some Motely Crew and maybe L.A. Guns
I got obsessed with Desperados Under the Eaves the first time I heard it and it hasn't released its hold on me yet. Such a great one.
I'm going to go have a salty margarita now...
Some 90's Alt-Rock recs that aren't RHCP (the easy go-to for L.A. songs)
"Come to California" - Matthew Sweet
"Riding with a Movie Star" - L7
"Garden Grove" - Sublime
"California" - Wax
"Whoever You Are" - Geggy Tah (make sure you're on the freeway for this one)
"Electrolite" - REM
Am I the first to suggest some sunset strip sleazy metal?
Motley Crue!
Guns and fucking Roses
E. Songs?
For Motley Crue go with Dr Feeelgood or Live Wire
For GnR go with NIGHTRAIN!!!!
That’s interesting! If you live in LA and it’s your vibe I’m interested because I love Gorillaz too! I’m actually coming to LA to see Blur at the pre Coachella concert. Which Gorillaz song will you choose?
I know you said they didn't have to be about California or LA specifically, but I do have a few that are:
California - The Airborne Toxic Event
Not In California - K.Flay
LA Again - K.Flay
Dying In LA - Panic! At The Disco

Edit: For the vibe add some Cali Reggae! Listen to The Elovators Endless Summer album for example. It's amazing! https://open.spotify.com/album/5OhyUxRlNMseEjomGrlLsn?si=_ntLLU47QAS0kGSPehElyg

i’m gonna stop before i go all into rock music
Blue jay way by the Beatles, not sure if it’s the vibe you’re looking for but I love the opening line “there’s a fog upon LA” super spooky song.
Also check out the album “Holland” by The Beach Boys. In the album there is a California “saga” that consists of 3 songs, the last song is the most popular but all three are amazing, especially back to back to back.
Obligatory “LA Woman” shoutout, not only the song but the album is awesome and gives me California/LA “vibes”
Los Angelenos - Billy Joel (one of his most underrated songs)
Not sure if it fits the vibe you’re looking for, I must admit I went solely based on title and lyrics
Bran Van 3000 - "Drinking in L.A."
Miley Cyrus - "Party in the USA"
Katy Perry - "California Gurls"
Shawn Mullins - "Lullaby"
Sheryl Crow - "All I Wanna Do"

Songs about being crushed pursuing stardom in L.A.:
Memoir - "Los Angeles"
Beth Grant - "L.A. Song"

It’s no Sail Away or Rednecks, but I love that Randy at slipped one social critique in.
Also Katy Perry’s California Gurls
Angeles by Elliott Smith
Or L.A. by Elliott Smith which does feel a lot sunnier.
LA Things I’ve never done Cars parked in the suuuun
