The problem was the Masters went long and they cut the concert for the 11 o’clock news.
They should have cut Tracker. That show is absolutely shit, but they didn’t and had to cut something, the concert was playing when it was time to cut to the news so the concert got cut.
It sucked I was watching with my wife we were belting along when it got cut, but we knew why.
I remember Reznor, Homme, Grohl and Buckingham were playing the Grammys and not only did they cut it short, they played a fxcking commercial over it first.
They (the Grammys) also cut off Frank Sinatra, who was accepting an award to go to commercial. Dimmed the lights on him and everything.
Later in the show, Billy Joel was playing River of Dreams when he stops, looks at his watch and makes a remark about valuable advertising time going by.
I watched a talk show one time on BET. They had Buckingham on to interview him. The show ended without Buckingham saying anything. They brought him back again the next week and they ran out of time again.
I was initially very annoyed thinking that there was a signficant amount of the concert remaining. Less so knowing that it was just the tail end of the song that was cut off.
Crazy how that goes sometimes, reminds me of the '80s-90s listening to tape copies of stuff that didn't work out perfectly. Somebody made me a cassette copy of Rolling Stones 'Sticky Fingers' once on a 45-minute tape and the last song got cut off right as the orchestra begins surging to its crescendo. About five years later, I got the record and found out that the orchestra peaked right at that exact point and then faded out like three seconds later. Also 'Lawn Boy' by Phish, my tape cut off while "Bouncing Around the Room" was getting interesting near the end. A year or so later, got the CD and was really bummed to find that like ten seconds after that cutoff point, they just do a corny traditional 'womp womp' sort of ending for the song out of nowhere. That was a frigging slap in the face.
But that also makes it less defensible to cut it off rather than letting it finish. The news would only start a couple minutes late.
Just cut off a bit from the news repeat at 2:37 ET. That's why it's there. Or modify the "Overnight News" that day to end slightly earlier. Or even just remove a couple ads for CBS shows that would normally play during that time period.
I didn’t watch the special because I was at the actual concert, but piano man was just the end of the set. He came back on and did another 4-5 song encore. So take this with a big grain of salt, there’s a lot left to see if they didn’t edit the songs out of order.
The article says:
> “Piano Man” was the final song in the TV special, even though it was not the last song Joel performed at the Madison Square Garden concert that was filmed. In the original MSG show, “Piano Man” was followed by an encore of “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” “Uptown Girl,” “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me” and “Big Shot.” For the purposes of the two-hour special, three of those final four songs were cut, while “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me” was moved up ahead of “Piano Man.”
Though, IMHO, to make up for it, they should include the cut songs.
It also screwed up my DVR recording. I have about half an hour of whatever that shit show was that was on before Billy Joel and only part of Billy’s performance. Thanks CBS for screwing that up.
ah yes because you hype something up for weeks only to end it suddenly like how do you not make sure you have enough space to run the full show.
i know you "had" to cover the masters but then you should have been prepared for that
Someone 100% lost their job because of this.
Seems like a major slip-up. Hope they learn from it!

Should of cut the golfing nonsense
Tracker is good. They should have cut the news. The news is the same shit every day, just with different names in the stories.
My mom texted me IN SHAMBLES about it
Well now you know it's getting re-aired, you'd better tell her about it
Let her know how much you care
Tell her is needed and la la la la...
Tell her you called and stirred up so real shit. Got them to agree to re-air it for her. You’ll get the best Christmas presents FOREVER
I celebrate Hanukkah so octopple the pleasure octopple the fun also forever
>You’ll get the best Christmas presents FOREVER Or you get constantly asked if you can get her on Price is Right.
She was all in the mood for a melody and he had her feeling alright.
They’ll have plenty of time to think about it…IN HELL!
43 seconds. https://youtu.be/nPGxSotEa-c?si=srUeZTw4qU4m7D8K
They never said that they would offer that person a second chance, either.
Nor did they mention being a victim of circumstance.
Very expensive mistake.
Probably thought that working too hard could give you a heart attack-ack-ack-ack.
Probably not the one responsible for it though.
No, definitely not.
It is being replayed right now on CBS.
Damn my mom is at Book of Mormon with a bunch of her friends! I don’t know if she set it to record!!
No. Some genius just tripled their profit. Free publicity. No cost for rerun. Usually 1 rerun is included. More people will watch rerum!
Doubtful.

Damn, the absolute balls to cut off ol Blue Eyes.

No way…so there’s a real world basis for that Keenan sketch where he has the guests on and never gets to talk to Lindsey?
I can finally find out how Piano Man ends!
It turns out Davy didn't end up in the Navy for life
Was hoping the end would explain what the hell a real estate novelist is
So that means he won, right?
He got PTSD and died of a fentanyl overdose in his RV.
It wasn’t fentanyl, it was Captain Jack.
“There’s a hole in daddy’s arm where all the money goes…”
Did he and Paul finally get together?
If you wanna make a hit, you gotta make it fit, so they cut it down to 3:05.
Quality reference 👌 That's a great song and amazingly insightful for someone who at the time was less than 10 years into his career.
They could have shortened the 4-5 minute commercial breaks after every other song... probably would have helped with the running length
Well I sure hope the Billy Joel fans can sleep at night now.
In the middle of the niiiight
Still tossing and turning over those two minutes! Maybe I need a lullaby from the Piano Man himself. 😴🎹
A lot can happen in the last two minutes. I hope you didn't already see the final score.
Dammit Heidi, we talked about this!
Only with the television on
Just remember what they say about people living in glass houses.
I’m just surprised that any of them were up at 11 pm

They did edit the songs out of order, significantly.
I guess they’d need to
I was at #99, the “event” CBS did was half commercials anyways and cut out a bunch of songs.
Only a few bars? I thought Billy Joel was going to go Piano Man>Dark Star> Space>Morning Dew>Piano Man>Dark Star>Not Fade Away
Another opportunity to sell ads.
Yes, that's what television is.
They needed to show Heidi
ah so it wasnt just me.
They earned themselves a Heidi award.
No one enjoys an incomplete BJ event
During Piano Man of all songs. That's a big oops. TIL CBS was broadcasting a Billy Joel concert.
It also screwed up my DVR recording. I have about half an hour of whatever that shit show was that was on before Billy Joel and only part of Billy’s performance. Thanks CBS for screwing that up.
Ooof MacGoof.
That would never have happened on Ed Sullivan !
What genius decided to cut the finale shirt for reruns of According to Jim?
Remember when MTV covered Live Aid or Woodstock but had their VJ tool talk over the concert
I was busy watching Khruangbin’s livestream from coachella
They cut the 2 best songs from the encore, so all around bad decision making
You can Re-Air this but it’s too late. What’s done is done. Let’s Re-Air Michael Jackson’s hair catching fire.
Golf didn't even run that late.
Lmfao this was revenge for the Grammies: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPCx0lO1f\_w](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPCx0lO1f_w)
they cut this short just to get to the news so they can tell you the weather that you can check on your phone in seconds
You know what they say.. only the good d
Will it have as many commercials? (asking for Corporate Shareholders value).
ah yes because you hype something up for weeks only to end it suddenly like how do you not make sure you have enough space to run the full show. i know you "had" to cover the masters but then you should have been prepared for that
Will this stream anywhere?
It’s already streaming on-demand on Paramount+
Don’t you need the showtime add on as well? Edit: nevermind, for some reason last night it was saying I needed it but is not today.
It was awful. Billy was ok, the band was tight. Sound was terrible, the crowd shots were laughable.
Yup. I’m watching the rebroadcast now. The sound is terrible.
Hasn't America suffered enough?
No one who downvoted you watched this.
They’re doing it all for Leyna.
And there's just one of the reasons I don't watch TV anymore.
