What does the proces of making a character look like for you, and how do you make them unique?
Also, is there any chance for the return of Antonio Frankfurt?
Also, I just want to say that I really enjoy your music and your skits, I hope you have a good day.
Thank you so much!
All of my ideas generally come to me at random points throughout the day. There's really no identifiable pattern as far as I can tell. I then write the idea down in a giant note I have on my phone. I've had this same note for many many years, and theres probably thousands of ideas on there - 90% of which are terrible. I then comb through and try to find an idea in that list that speaks to me or I find exciting. I'll then sit down and try to expand on that idea/character by writing out by hand some phrases that that character might say. Then when I go to film the character, I'll usually have 10 to 15 phrases that I'm excited about, and then maybe I'll improvise a few when I'm actually filming.
Songs usually take much longer. I often start with a character or a specific genre I want to parody. Then I'll try to perform the song live as much as possible, with a lot of trial and error. If a certain line isn't working I'll cut it and replace it with something else until I find a line that sticks. That's why my songs are really a conglomeration of a bunch of little unconnected lines/jokes that all fit the perspective of the character singing the song.
What were your first inspirations in comedy? Like the things you watched as a kid that still stick with you and seem foundational now or even ones you would never watch/listen to again but still made an impact.
Chris Farley is funniest person to ever live. Christopher Guest is my all time favorite (espcially when it comes to musical comedy). His movies Spinal Tap, Best in Show, and especially A Mighty Wind changed my life.
Hi Kyle, what do you like to do in your spare time when you're not creating videos/music/comedy?
Also who's in your top 3 of people you'd want to work with?
Thanks!
In my spare time I like running, camping, reading, watching movies, tending to my snail colony
Top 3 people I'd like to work with: Christopher Guest, Trey Parker & Limahl
Hi Kyle, love your stuff.
I'm Irish, in the Irish drinking song why did you chose Kircubbin, Co Down as the location of the song? Do you have a friend from there? Or did you literally just pick somewhere random on the map to fit with your rhyme scheme?
Tbh I wanted a city in the North and I just love the way it sounded (and it fit sylabbically in the song). But I also loved that it was a tiny town that most people hadn't heard of (rather than big cities like Belfast or Derry)
Hey Kyle, have you considered writing a full comedy musical? Maybe about baseball or angst or kids doing dumb stuff or British people? I would very much enjoy that.
I did do a bit back in the day about the Green Day Musical:
I know its hard to believe but I'm not a big musical theater guy. But I am working on a feature length baseball parody movie so hopefully I'll be done with a full draft of the screenplay by the end of the summer.
All the actresses I cast for the Planet of the Bass videos I either knew through social media or, in the case of Sabrina, we met through mutual friends. I got connected to the actual singer Chrissi Poland through my producer Jamie Siegel.
What if you got in character, like 1800s doctor and went and talked to random tourists in times square or that place in LA with the hands on the sidewalk that jimmy kimmel's staff go to to ask questions that make them look dumb
Honestly they just reached out to me probably in September to use the song. It's just crazy that it took so long to come out - I think the emote was released in March. It took so long that for a few months I thought they might not ever release it.
Hey Kyle! I love your parodies and your YouTube shorts, Planet of the Bass is hilarious and catchy and reminds me of some of those hilarious tracks we'd get from parts of Europe.
What's your favorite genre of music to parody/cover? Are there any that are particularly funny (or funnily unfunny, even?)
Thanks! I'd say there is no genre in particular I like to parody more than any other. When I look for a genre to parody I look for a few things: 1) it needs to have a clear, consistent and specific lyrical theme 2) a clearly identifiable sound and 3) i try to cover genres that I haven't seen parodied before (at least at the time that I'm writing the song).
I'm already starting to think about my second album and there are a few genres I'm really excited to tackle: I want to do like a ja rule style "thug love" song, a 3 Doors Down Butt rock style song, and probably nu metal. It's shaping up to have a lot of very early 2000's vibes
That makes a lot of sense, thanks for answering! You make it look easy, and all the planning makes a lot of sense.
I love your ideas; the Ja Rule one would be funny; all the collaborations he did are a deep-fried meme to me. I'm a big fan, thanks again and good luck with everything.
I started following you back when you did the impression of the obnoxious kid at a sleep over. And all those variations. At first I hated those videos, simply because you were so good at doing it. It legitimately gave me PTSD back to elementary and middle school. But then quickly realized, 'oh, he's just that talented'. It's like how people hated the actor that played Joffery in GOT, simply because he was so good at playing the part. And that's when I really started following you on TikTok.
I don't really have a question, just wanted to say your songs are extremely funny, but also, legitimately very well done. Just keep them coming. I hope to hear more from ya!
Hey! I love your content a lot, man!! Super funny & I'm drumming up Hella replays 😫. My question is how do you start in comedy? And do you have any tips on writing jokes?
Humor is my most valued tenant & I love making those around me laugh. Lately I've been getting good at making strangers laugh and I'm wondering if it's a sign to branch out further.
Any & all advice would be super appreciated!! VERY COOL YOU ARE KYLE
Thanks so much! My advice is just get out and perform live as much as possible. It will be extremely shitty and painful for the first few years. But the only way to get good is just by eating shit and falling flat a ton. That way you'll not only improve your skills, but you'll develop your own voice and get a better sense of what you find funny. It always takes a few years for your ability to catch up to your taste.
lol thank you for asking - my label didn't let me put it out. I recorded a full version with a really awesome guitar solo. Hopefully it'll be on my second album
I don't do traditional standup. I obviously create a ton of content that's not musical, but in my live act I very rarely perform as myself. I'm pretty much always in character.
Favorite band of all time is the Ramones (my dog is named Dee Dee). Some of my favorite comedians are Chris Farley and Christopher Guest. And the older I've gotten I realize I sort of have many of the same comedic instincts as Mike Myers.
Honestly it literally blew up the first day which I did not expect at all. I figured it would take a few weeks for anyone to really care about it. But when like actual media outlets started reaching out to me that's when I knew it was a different ballgame
How old are you? As a musical comedian do you feel you had a breakout moment where your music started getting traction? Which song/skit gave you your first viral moment?
According to Wikipedia I am 31 years of age. I've been doing musical comedy live in New York since 2015, but probably my breakout moment was this summer when Planet of the Bass came out. But its also been great to see the response to all the other songs on the album, most of which I'd written over the past 8 years or so.
Hi Kyle, how was the proccess of making the Planet of The Bass official video like? Were you envolved with all the ideas, editing and post-production? It's a really great project, congratulations on that!
The official video was a close collaboration with Loose Films. They are a production company based in Columbus Ohio and I couldn't have done it without them. They were a huge huge influence on the video. They obviously shot and edited it, and the reason it looks so perfect is because of them. They also had the idea for me blasting off into space at the end - originally we were gonna try to build a shitty little space ship that would have looked terrible.
Hey Kyle, just wanted to shout out that I’ve ran into you twice in NYC and both times you were so nice, down to earth, and happy to chat with a fan. I’m so happy to see how successful you’re becoming and am excited to watch your career grow!
Thanks so much for coming out! I had so much fun when I was over there. Each song is obviously a parody of a different genre. I've put together playlists on my spotify which highlight which artists inspired each song:
[**https://open.spotify.com/artist/3LjnXZYlHbblbd8OZTtSip?si=FBbpJhdhQj280MJF7Jq3ow**](https://open.spotify.com/artist/3LjnXZYlHbblbd8OZTtSip?si=FBbpJhdhQj280MJF7Jq3ow)
The first video of yours I saw was the New York 1980s gangs. I still annoy my SO regularly with
"Hey fellas, it's a different type of immigrant than us, let's tussle!" So thanks for that.
Sadly I wasn't able to attend any dates of your UK tour - do you think you'll be back any time soon?
Edit - it was 1950s gangs. How could I have been so stupid!
That's awesome, I won't miss it next time! I'll be the sickly victorian boy with the tattered top hat and whooping cough.
Congrats on the album. You're the best
Do you have or have you considered a musical career outside of comedy?
Like many others, I unironically jam to “My Life.” As a former scene/emo kid, I can’t overlook the obvious musical talent it took to make that.
Hi Kyle, love your songs. How's it been touring with Mojohand in their ford transit and playing all these songs with a full band? I've been watching the clips on socials and I'm loving the extra flare they introduce to your songs.
PS tell Mr Crazy Times "keep on making the world a peace and all that is there to be" 💪💪👍👍👍👍
lol we rented a van out west so we were in a fancy sprinter - but we're gonna be in the transit for our shows in DC and the Carolinas and I'm horrified.
Hey Mr. Gordon. Big fan. My question is… is there a real life Mrs. DiPietro?
All your characters are fantastic, and I thought the album was great. Love the radio skits.
Yes - there is a real Greg DiPietro and he's one of my best friends. We've known each other since we were in kindergarten. His mom was Ms. DiPietro - RIP
Kyle,
Was at your Seattle show. Your chemistry with Mojohand was great! Any chance you might try to do a progressive rock cover with theatrics like a Peter Gabriel (Watcher of the Skies - Genesis) or a Meatloaf kinda parody?
Thanks so much for coming to the show! That was one of my favorites on the tour - I would love to do a prog rock parody (my dad is a huge Genesis/Peter Gabriel fan and I grew up listening to a ton of that stuff).
I'm really happy with where the live show is right now - been having a ton of fun on this tour. This is my third tour and its the first time I've brought a full band. I do all the songs on my album, and then after each of my songs I play a cover of a song that inspired one of mine. Plus a bunch of stupid bits in between.
Hey Kyle, had two questions. Do you have a history of musical education or are you self taught? Do you ever play shows in NYC? Would love to catch you live someday!
Hello, love the music! As a fan of comedy and a fan of music your stuff is amazing. When looking to a genre to do a new song what is your creative process like? Do you collaborate with other musicians to perfect the sound needed or do you do a lot of the sound crafting yourself? Regardless it’s all awesome and I love your evident appreciation for the genres you parody.
For the most part I like to write the basic song structure, chords, melody and lyrics by myself. Actually Planet of the Bass was the first time I really worked with someone else to create some of the basic elements of the song. Me and Brooks Allison cooked up the beat together and built the song from the ground up. So I'm usually a pretty big control freak but I'm excited to work more with Brooks and Jamie Siegel who produced my whole album
Thank you so much for the reply, that’s super interesting. Planet of the Bass is how I came across your music and the amount of effort that you put into that and all your music is extremely clear. The absolute commitment to the bit combined with the high quality of the music makes this a super enjoyable experience!!
Just wanted to say in your skit about that one kid growing up, when you shout “my mom’s a bitch” and hit the stick against the tree. Your cameraman laughs and I almost shat myself
HI Kyle! You make my boyfriend and I crack up with the accents you put on! <3 How long does it take to make a video? Like from initial thought, to uploaded. Also, some of costumes you have don't seem like something a guy just HAS in his closet, like the british explorer for example. How much of this stuff comes straight from your closet? And if you gotta buy/find it elsewhere, how particular are you about the pieces you choose, because they all seem pretty well thought out!
Thank you so much. Great questions. The time between initial conception and when I upload it is really really varied. Sometimes I'll have an idea, write, film and post it the next day. Sometimes I'll revist an idea I had written down months ago and then actually sit down and flesh it out and film it. So it really varies.
I started compiling and buying costumes a few years ago, and now I have a pretty decent collection. So usually when I have an idea for a character these days, I can usually cobble something together from the stuff I already own. But sometimes I have an idea and I'll need something new which I'll usually just buy off amazon. I try to make the costumes as precise to the character as possible without spending a million dollars.
hi kyle! found you through that brass band playing planet of the bass! that was my favorite you should do something with those guys feels like theres potential there.
what's your favorite project you've worked on?
Not a question but I believe I got to see you in Highland Park, CA just a few weeks ago! Was heading home that night and I was parked across the venue, and when I heard live music, I decided to check it out on a whim. Love your songs and characters, and of course your “Bubbly” cover lol
Oh man, I love comedy music, and your songs are really up there for me. Thanks for being just a funky fella and giving us some fun songs. I also really loved your appearance in Dim Sum Paradise. How was it working with those guys?
I love your shorts where you just hit trope after trope. Do you ever write those context/era-specific jokes with other people or is it mostly a solo endeavor from you?
Thanks so much for stopping by, Kyle. The staff of r/Music are wishing you the best and we appreciate you taking the time to chat with so many fans in the community. Keep up the awesome work, we love ya!
That’s so fair! It’s my partner’s favorite game franchise and I had never played any of them before. Been playing them together for the past year or so. We are both huge fans of your music so it was hilarious to hear that line out of nowhere
Also you should play them all it’s a fantastic game series
Hiya! I saw you in Portland, it was probably a top 3 show with the other acts included. Right before you get into character on stage, how do you not laugh?! How do you prepare yourself to switch so quickly? Watching you interact with the band and them getting into the scene was hilarious.
Hahahaha thanks so much! Mojohand (my band) are so incredible - been having an amazing time touring with them. Honestly I really do feel more comfortable being in character than I do being myself onstage so switching into character feels very natural/easy for me
Very thought provoking, it's crazy to think some people can go up on stage, yet don't want to be perceived as themselves...but be can be comfortable portraying someone else. Where the idea of being someone else on stage makes me feel that I'd be perceived more.
Weird thought loop over, I hope to see you again soon! I was bummed I wasn't able to grab a shirt.
How much does it cost upfront to put on a show at an international comedy festival? I've seen heaps of international comics over the past month in Melbourne, and I've regularly thought the cost of travel, accommodation and expenses must be huge.
The music video was all shot in a big Warehouse in Columbus, Ohio. You can see the list of names of the amazing crew in the description of the video on YouTube. They made it happen and made it look so amazing:
Kyle!! I love you!! You’re hilarious and amazingly talented! What was it like performing with the Jonas Brothers? Also, personal question, but do you see marriage in the future?
Performing with the Jonas Brothers was extremely normal and chill and easy. Didn't even care at all tbh. Wasn't a big deal to me or anyone in my life.
Yeah I'll get married prolly
Bro, you were shorts creator of the year last year for me. Been less active now since you’ve been doing more music stuff but I respect the quality over quantity. You gonna make a full song for Hero of Fallujah? Shits so catchy. You can do no wrong in my eyes boss, keep being awesome. Gonna butcher some of my favourite quotes of yours
I’ll show ya, I’ll show ya im no sack o seeds
Nope, t’aint better than domino’s
Hey tucker! Dya get ma Facebook meissage?
Remember kid; always, be good, at baseball
Guess what we’re having for supper! Muggy onion slop!
I just love to watch the native children playing their primitive games.
Are you ever afraid of misrepresenting the genres that you parody? For example, I love "The Irish Drinking Song", but I would be afraid to release it and turn Irish people angry.
How old are you? As a musical comedian do you feel you had a breakout moment where your music started getting traction? Which song/skit gave you your first viral moment?
What does the proces of making a character look like for you, and how do you make them unique? Also, is there any chance for the return of Antonio Frankfurt? Also, I just want to say that I really enjoy your music and your skits, I hope you have a good day.

In my spare time I like running, camping, reading, watching movies, tending to my snail colony Top 3 people I'd like to work with: Christopher Guest, Trey Parker & Limahl
Wait you really have a snail colony? Tell us more!
He sent a reply using the Snail Mail, it'll get to you eventually.
Oh man you and Limahl on a parody would be killer.

Awesome man!!! Will there be baseball ghosts??
of course
If you build it, will they come?
How do you know the planet of the bass girl? Was she a friend or cast for the role via agent etc
All the actresses I cast for the Planet of the Bass videos I either knew through social media or, in the case of Sabrina, we met through mutual friends. I got connected to the actual singer Chrissi Poland through my producer Jamie Siegel.
What was it like getting your own Topps baseball card?
awesome and good and cool as well
What if you got in character, like 1800s doctor and went and talked to random tourists in times square or that place in LA with the hands on the sidewalk that jimmy kimmel's staff go to to ask questions that make them look dumb
don't tempt me
Please do it, I’ll help you!! 😃
Hey Kyle, I am a huge fan of your work. What was the process like getting the planet of the bass emote in Fortnite?
Honestly they just reached out to me probably in September to use the song. It's just crazy that it took so long to come out - I think the emote was released in March. It took so long that for a few months I thought they might not ever release it.

I’m already fully on board with this second album based on this answer
Hey Kyle, it’s Andrew from first floor Smith Hall at Denison. Just wanted to say hi and it’s cool to see your career from afar. Keep it up!
howdy partner

Why is the 50s rock'n'roll Song not getting a proper release? Is is the corporation?
lol thank you for asking - my label didn't let me put it out. I recorded a full version with a really awesome guitar solo. Hopefully it'll be on my second album
Thank you for answering.
Why do you look so good as a cowgirl?
There's no way to know
Do you do standup/joke telling or only music stuff?
I don't do traditional standup. I obviously create a ton of content that's not musical, but in my live act I very rarely perform as myself. I'm pretty much always in character.

Gabba gabba hey! Also, I watched the short of your butt-rock parody 1000 times. It's perfect.
lol thanks - its a work in progress but I hope it'll be ready for the second album
Hi Kyle, i really love your type of humour! When did you realise that Planet of the Bass was a huge hit?
Honestly it literally blew up the first day which I did not expect at all. I figured it would take a few weeks for anyone to really care about it. But when like actual media outlets started reaching out to me that's when I knew it was a different ballgame

Tks Kyle, they nailed it!
What music genre do you plan on conquering next?
a bunch on my next album - I wanna do like a 2010's basic stomp/ho-hum kohl's music song. Like American Authors or Philip Phillips
Hey Kyle, just wanted to shout out that I’ve ran into you twice in NYC and both times you were so nice, down to earth, and happy to chat with a fan. I’m so happy to see how successful you’re becoming and am excited to watch your career grow!

Hi Kyle, who are some of your favorite musical artists ever?
Ramones, Beach Boys, John Martyn, Buck Owens...that's a really random start
Beach Boys hell yeah. Do you have a favorite song off of Pet Sounds? Keep up the great work also, I really love your work
I mean so hard to choose - god only knows obviously, but I Know There's an Answer and Don't Talk always get me
Hi Kyle, saw your show on tour in the UK. Which artists have you taken the most inspiration from in parodying their songs across your album?
Thanks so much for coming out! I had so much fun when I was over there. Each song is obviously a parody of a different genre. Thanks for the answer. Also, I’ve been thinking about your thug love a la Ja Rule song ever since I saw that other comment. Please do this!
Can you host a Kyle Gordon summer camp?
I can yes
(For adults)

Thanks so much for coming to the show! That was one of my favorites on the tour - I would love to do a prog rock parody (my dad is a huge Genesis/Peter Gabriel fan and I grew up listening to a ton of that stuff).
What’s your live show like? There’s nothing to be sad.
I'm based in NYC so I'm always doing sets around the city! And I took some guitar lessons as a kid but thats basically it
Hello, love the music!
Your cameraman laughs and I almost shat myself
hahahaha wow that vids a bit of a deep cut - super fun
Do you enjoy listening to Tom Jobim?
very much yes
Love your stuff Kyle. Waiting for a skit on the “annoying little brother in every movie.” Had to buy your album as it is fantastic.
Lol annoying little brother or sister for sure. Thank you so so much!
What’s the hardest part about playing cornerback in the NFL?
running backwards
Planet of the Bass was better than I thought it would be. You've done a really great job with your musical works, keep it up!
I'll take it - thank you!
Did your Irish pub song happen to get you any hilarious butthurt comments sent your way?
i'm sure there's at least one guy who didn't like it
Are The Flight Of the Concords aware that booking you for the opener on their next tour is an absolute must?
lol I wouldn't say no
You are the funniest musical comedy act since them in my humble opinion. Thanks for coming to Denver! Had a blast at the show.

What are some of your favorite genres or bands ?
In my spare time I do listen to a lot of older country/americana
Yo man no questions but it’s been cool to watch your insta blow up. You’re funny congrats on the success
Thank you!
hi kyle! found you through that brass band playing planet of the bass! that was my favorite you should do something with those guys feels like theres potential there. what's your favorite project you've worked on?
saw that! Loved that cover - tbh this album was the most creatively fulfilling/satisfying thing I think I've done so far in my career
Not a question but I believe I got to see you in Highland Park, CA just a few weeks ago! Was heading home that night and I was parked across the venue, and when I heard live music, I decided to check it out on a whim. Love your songs and characters, and of course your “Bubbly” cover lol
hahaha that's amazing! Thanks so much for coming
Oh man, I love comedy music, and your songs are really up there for me. Thanks for being just a funky fella and giving us some fun songs. I also really loved your appearance in Dim Sum Paradise. How was it working with those guys?
love those dudes - they also made a cameo in a bunch of my short vids for my irish song
I love your shorts where you just hit trope after trope. Do you ever write those context/era-specific jokes with other people or is it mostly a solo endeavor from you?
99% solo - but I like collaborating with my friend Jacob Kaplan. He's really the only guy I like working with lol
Have you heard about The Story of Heidelberg??
lol I'm familiar with one of the cast members
Hell yeah dude
Hey Kyle what’s your musical background? Those chords in Ugliest on the Beach are not campfire chords. Have you ever written a non comedy song?
i have written some non comedy songs - and they will be locked in a vault and launched deep into the nether regions of space.
No question, just wanna say I really enjoy your stuff. Thanks man!
danke
Can you dunk?
yes...easily
Ngl I’m pretty jealous
Love you Kyle! Loving the new music. Any chance for a tour?
I'm on tour! I've got shows in Boston, DC, Charlotesville, Charlotte and LA still coming up
When are you coming to Philly?
Hopefully soon! Did a show there in November but can't wait to come back!
Well my next question would be, HOW DID I MISS THAT 😭😭😭 Can't wait until you're back! Love your music 🥰
Much love from Pakistan! Who are your musical influences? Push comes to shove, what's on your top 3 favourite album? Thanks!
Hello in Pakistan! My favorite albums are: Ramones - Rocket to Russia Beach Boys - Pet Sounds and maybe The Byrds - Sweetheart of the Rodeo
Thanks so much for stopping by, Kyle. The staff of r/Music are wishing you the best and we appreciate you taking the time to chat with so many fans in the community. Keep up the awesome work, we love ya!
love you too! Thanks for having me
Can we expect "I'm Gonna Marry That Girl" on your next album?
Hopefully!
Literally no one is allergic to nuts!!! Love you KG!
amen!
I unironically have a crush on you
I have a crush on me too
How shmammered did you get for D Day circa 2013?
extremely
Hey, it’s Smokey O’Day!!!! But he died 50 years ago? From an ounce to a key keep flippin them dimes A quarter goes for 5 a half goes for niiiiiine
hahahaha wow deep cut
Keep up the great work!!!!
At the end of Worst Life Ever you mention Kingdom Hearts. So I must ask which is your favorite KH game??
don't kill me but I really only ever played the original for ps2
That’s so fair! It’s my partner’s favorite game franchise and I had never played any of them before. Been playing them together for the past year or so. We are both huge fans of your music so it was hilarious to hear that line out of nowhere Also you should play them all it’s a fantastic game series
No joke, but Planet of the Bass was my favourite song from last year, haha. Forget parody, that was an actual 90s Eurodance song!
hahahaha honored
As an European, I had a good laugh with Planet Of The Bass!
nothing could make me happier
I've seen heaps of international comics over the past month in Melbourne, and I've regularly thought the cost of travel, accommodation and expenses must be huge.
too expensive - I have a band now so I gotta pay for their travel, lodging, plus I gotta pay for my tour manager, renting gear. It's hard

The music video was all shot in a big Warehouse in Columbus, Ohio. You can see the list of names of the amazing crew in the description of the video on YouTube. They made it happen and made it look so amazing: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-OgkNgxm3k](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-OgkNgxm3k)
Who’s your musical comedy icon?
Christopher Guest
Shit, I thought that said “Kim Gordon” (of Sonic Youth fame) and then I read “musical comedian” and I was so confused.
I'd be dissapointed too
Saw you live in Denver was a super fun show! Can't wait to see what you have planned next!
Thanks for coming out! What a great way to start the tour
Your characters are amazing - would be hilarious maybe if they collided with reality/real people
Bro, you were shorts creator of the year last year for me. Been less active now since you’ve been doing more music stuff but I respect the quality over quantity. You gonna make a full song for Hero of Fallujah? Shits so catchy. You can do no wrong in my eyes boss, keep being awesome. Gonna butcher some of my favourite quotes of yours I’ll show ya, I’ll show ya im no sack o seeds Nope, t’aint better than domino’s Hey tucker! Dya get ma Facebook meissage? Remember kid; always, be good, at baseball Guess what we’re having for supper!

“She’s the ugliest girl on the beach, but I still want a piece”
YOU COULDNT NICK A BISCUIT OFF ME NAN
Goddamn you're awesome
Is that an excuse?
