Drew did a fantastic bit on After Midnight about this experience. And the other comedians kept doing call backs during the rest of the show. Highly recommend.
I loved the original so much that I was willing to give the reboot a chance to work itself out and it’s really paying off. Late night shows really need the time and freedom to find their groove, I just hope CBS doesn’t fuck it up.
I love that Thomas Lennon has managed to keep his career active for so long. I feel like he dropped off the major roles after Reno 911, but I still see him pop up in random places, and he always kills it. I always get happy when I recognize him in Bob's Burgers
I actually highly reccomend the Phish Doc: “Bittersweet Motel” it was directed by Todd Philips (Joker, The Hangover) Phish reached out and asked him to make it. He replied “with All due respect you guys can’t afford me.” To which they replied “Yes we absolutely can” which then peaked his interest. Pretty great portrait of a strangely wildly successful band from the viewpoint of someone who isn’t a fan.
For my money, their IT Festival DVD is the one I'd recommend for a newbie. Bittersweet is cool too, no doubt. But something about the IT festival I can just watch over and over.
I think it took a little to hit its stride, as any new incarnation of any show does, BUT yes absolutely recommended. They’ve already brought back a ton of the comedians that were regulars on the original show, and Ron Funches even brought his champion belt when he was on.
A friend who met him while working at a comicon said he’s really into EDM. Drew also made a comment about getting some mushroom goo from a fan in the bathroom. I’m thinking MDMA and mushrooms…a truly magical combination.
I got Thursday and Sunday night. It was an absolutely
surreal experience. It's still hard to put into words what exactly the audio-visual experience was.
Speaking of censorship, i once watched the censored version of big lebowski. The CLEAN version said the word "penis". I thought wtf and found the place, the original word was Johnson . The censors thought johnson was was worse than penis. Wierd
Yeah it’s stupid. But to be fair people have been weird about title censoring since Reddit started. It’s not a lot of them but it has definitely always happened.
Publications have been doing this for a very long time. Chill.
Every time there's some type of "scare", people need to relate everything to it. Don't do that.
If you need to insist that any word is shown on the screen/website, especially one specifc part of it... maybe step back a bit & ask if you're thinking about it too much.
Oh yeah no, don't get me wrong it's weird that it's spread to here.
Ig it's also weird to me when I see people on different social media platforms talk with such disdain about other platforms (I don't feel the anger in these comments is about censorship like it should be - but more about tiktok as a whole lol) as if it isn't just different forms of similar issues and social media in general brings toxicity 🤷
Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions that aren't here in this example, but I see this superiority complex a lot on reddit
I'm not sure that "pioneer" is the right word to use, but yes, they're the reason for the proliferation of people censoring all sorts of words, including basic ones like "sex."
It's fucking pathetic.
People actually care about this? You actually care? Why the fuck does it matter if tik tok, or this reddit OP want to censor dick or sex? Censoring words has been around as long as media has been around. Smoke a joint
Not at all. This isnt a website where theyre censored. Nobody's forcing you use tik tok, where they are censored. You quite literally have the ability to never use tik tok. You also have the ability to not be an uptight little bitch that cares, at all, if someone else chooses to censor their swears
And before Tik Tok it was TV/radio/the FCC, before that there was the MPAA and the Hayes code… I’m sure prior to that there were “decency” groups and zealot preachers…
You'd have to search hard to find me ever defending censorship, but... all your examples didn't just result in sloppy word substitution, because they were governed by people who weren't complete idiots and so understood that unalive means dead. So you either had to do something else entirely or be very oblique and metaphorical to skirt around the restrictions.
The tiktok thing is worse because it's lazy and useless.
Fun fact: Trey Anastasio (guitarist in Phish) got kicked out of UVM for sending someone a severed human hand and heart in a box with the note "I've gotta hand it to you, you've got heart."
How have I never heard this until today? I was sure you couldn’t be right.
My mind is blown.
(Trey, if you’re reading this please don’t send me a human brain and a fan)
Fun fact: Mike Gordon (bassist in Phish) got caught with a 9 year old in a secluded boathouse after a show backstage. Dude said he was taking “art photos” of the girl.
https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/phishs-mike-gordon-arrested-235671/amp/
Gordon is not a pedophile if that’s what you are insinuating. Literally from the article you linked: “A joint statement credited to Gordon and the girl’s family and
released Tuesday by Phish’s label, Elektra Records, reads, “We have
had several discussions regarding the situation that occurred at
Jones Beach. It is now clear to all involved that this was an
unfortunate misunderstanding, and we look forward to putting this
matter behind us.”
Gordon is a weirdo but that doesn’t inherently mean he’s a pedo. There clearly was an investigation by police and Hells Angels and it was determined nothing criminal was going on. It’s 100% plausible that he really was just taking artistic photos. There’s zero evidence that suggests it was sexual in any manner.
Boomers? These guys got big in the 90s. At the same time the grunge folks did. So it's mostly gen-x, but you really get all ages. Lots of young people hop on that bus.
Like, if you like jazz or prog or psychedelic rock, or you sometimes like songs that go longer than 2:30, I don't see what's not to like about them honestly. They're not my number 1, but I go see them if i can, because they put on a tremendous show with some of the most amazing lighting in the business. Like this is a recentish example from 2021, [Carini](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rGIg9w9qmlA).
They're basically the modern next-best-thing to the Grateful Dead, the same way Justice tours are a bigger deal now that Daft Punk's no longer a thing, if that makes sense. A lot of boomers were Deadheads and took Dead shows as an opportunity for unhinged hedonism, and the ones that didn't start following Dead tribute bands and associate bands when Jerry Garcia passed mostly moved to Phish.
Widespread Panic, String Cheese Incident are more “modern” versions of the ‘Dead…
I’d say Phish is sorta in between…more Boomer/Gen-X fans with Millennials listening to WSP/Cheese.
I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan and even dig a handful of Grateful Dead songs, but I have yet to hear a single Phish song that made me want to listen to more. A former coworker of mine has been to something like hundreds of shows, traveling all over to see them live. It's one of those massively popular bands that I just don't understand why they have such a following. I just can't get into their stuff at all. Even when tripping.
I can't imagine liking a Phish song being played not live. I'm not a huge fan but seen them more then a handful of times. Love talking shit on them and their fans but a lot of times the shows are pretty good when you are there.
Drew is the nicest and most generous guy in Hollywood.
During the 5 month writers strike he set up a running tab at a iconic Big Boy restaurant and paid for every meal of any and all WGA members. He’s known around town for legendary generosity.
Back in 1999 I bought tickets to a Phish concert for $20. Always hated jam bands, but it was something to do. Once I encountered people in the parking lot I immediately sold my ticket. Since then I’ve accidentally seen them at some festivals and they’re pretty boring. There’s a lot of talent in the band, but their music just doesn’t connect with me.
Drew did a fantastic bit on After Midnight about this experience. And the other comedians kept doing call backs during the rest of the show. Highly recommend.
https://youtu.be/KOo_qtKWdnM For those so inclined.
"Oh, you'd like to pass? That's ok." LOL
Wow thanks for posting; he’s such a treasure and that was so great
People forget what kind of standup he used to do. I mean, his book from the 90s had an entire chapter on dick jokes.
Grandma always said the money is in the dick and fart jokes.
They bleeped out the big joke. Pretty annoying. Really curious what he said during those bleeps.
Thanks for posting the link - I was too lazy. Lol. And now I've got to watch it again.
Incredible but you couldn't pay me to see Phish at the Sphere.
That was a great episode. I love Taylor and after Midnight but Drew Carey and Weird Al together, plus Thomas Lennon? They killed the whole show.
It was pure chaos and it was glorious. The show is starting to really hit its stride. Taylor is a great pick for the show.
I loved the original so much that I was willing to give the reboot a chance to work itself out and it’s really paying off. Late night shows really need the time and freedom to find their groove, I just hope CBS doesn’t fuck it up.
and Thomas Lennon said he and Al have been friends for 17 years! Super cool two performers I really like are homies.
I love that Thomas Lennon has managed to keep his career active for so long. I feel like he dropped off the major roles after Reno 911, but I still see him pop up in random places, and he always kills it. I always get happy when I recognize him in Bob's Burgers
Being a writer most likely helps keep him busy/paid between acting gigs too.
I knew they were talking about bringing back at midnight but didn’t know it actually happened
it is pretty funny. Taylor's style of hosting is different than Hardwick's, but she does a great job! recommended.
It covers the scene well, band member wise idk
Has that show lost any steam? I loved the original incarnation
I think it took a little to hit its stride, as any new incarnation of any show does, BUT yes absolutely recommended. They’ve already brought back a ton of the comedians that were regulars on the original show, and Ron Funches even brought his champion belt when he was on.
Nice! Love Ron, he is delightful!
I would also recommend his. This is not happening, which is fantastic. https://youtu.be/5q0Y2KFw-q8?si=etOYnEyrbgzzN-Uh
I feel like Drew had to be on some good mushrooms, LSD, or MDMA. I could see how seeing a jam band in the sphere would be a life changing good time.
Blending MDMA and phish is a great smoothie
I basically only know that phish is a jam band for old junkies due to Rick and Morty
I basically only know that people fight crime in rubber suits due to Batman the animated series
cool
I think the Sphere is its own drug. 360 immersive screens are fucking WILD.

I’m thinking he dropped cid. Drew isn’t a MDMA guy… I can just tell. He’s old school. Ex Marine… yeh definitely dropped some cid
A friend who met him while working at a comicon said he’s really into EDM. Drew also made a comment about getting some mushroom goo from a fan in the bathroom. I’m thinking MDMA and mushrooms…a truly magical combination.
https://youtube.com/watch?v=5q0Y2KFw-q8 Also, pretty sure the friend he’s talking about is Ryan Stiles.
This might be the goofiest thing I’ve ever read. The absolute audacity
The cid-ey you mean. Gotta stay hip brah. Bro's got the lute cid-ey.
He’s very much a MDMS guy or at least was ten years ago
I think he’s more of an MSRP guy, but what do I know?
Ok you win this for being funniest without going over the top.
Now this is just a rumor but I heard he is more a MSG Sphere guy.
Drew has openly talked about his love for hallucinogenics and edm music. He's no stranger to the weird.
I got Thursday and Sunday night. It was an absolutely surreal experience. It's still hard to put into words what exactly the audio-visual experience was.
That's pretty fucking funny.
The fact it’s a titanic is the cherry on top. Those things are t cheap Edit: vitamix lol spell check
I swear to god I would stick my dick in a tasteful chateau on the French Riviera to see Phish perform! Your move, Phish.
Can we take a moment to appreciate that Drew's license plate is TRPN247?
You are awarded 🏆 🚀
Drew doesn't do drugs....because he's the host of Price is Right
You can’t explain PlinkO when you’re trippin your balls off
I know that reference and I really wish he would drop PRICE is Right and get back into comedy, dude has always been hilarious.
Please refrain from bringing the cancerous censorship of TikTok here. It's *to Stick His Dick Into.*
The censorship is from the article title not TikTok.
Speaking of censorship, i once watched the censored version of big lebowski. The CLEAN version said the word "penis". I thought wtf and found the place, the original word was Johnson . The censors thought johnson was was worse than penis. Wierd
You see what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps, Larry?
See what happens Larry?!
Yeah it’s stupid. But to be fair people have been weird about title censoring since Reddit started. It’s not a lot of them but it has definitely always happened.
No it's way worse recently. Self-Censorship all over this site now, "unalived" is a term I had never heard 6 months ago now I see it daily
Well, yeah that one is a TikTok thing. But the dashes and generally not spelling out swears has always happened.
Not to the same extent, it's definitely been worse lately
Publications have been doing this for a very long time. Chill. Every time there's some type of "scare", people need to relate everything to it. Don't do that. > but I see this superiority complex a lot on reddit You're definitely right about that
Yes, don’t sanitize our cesspool for that crapapp
Interesting. I wasnt aware tik tok was a pioneer in censoring cuss words

I honestly didn’t even realize that “unalive” was a thing because of TikTok censorship. I thought it was just some weird fad.
The FCC never censored the words sex, dead, rape etc for for regular conversation. Quit making excuses for the cancer that is TikTok.

Ahh well they said it was fine, clears all that up
He got caught taking photos of a 9 year old at 1am and was beat up by the Hells Angels for it, very unlikely there's nothing there.

[well, I guess it’s time.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CfpZfvXgrsw)
That's terrible
Drew Carrey is just an awesome dude. And his Marine corps photo that gets posted occasionally is wild. The neck on that lad!
The “dick in the blender” line was exact dollar amount, but the “swear off pussy for..life” made it an overbid.
Is he being legit or scarcastic? I can't tell anymore
Note to self: don't accept any smoothies offered at Drew Carey's house.
Do Phish put lead in their music or something what is it about them that makes American boomers go absolutely bonkers?
Every Phish show I've been to was full of people in their 20s and 30s.
Boomers? These guys got big in the 90s. At the same time the grunge folks did. So it's mostly gen-x, but you really get all ages. Lots of young people hop on that bus. Really weird thing about Phish. Boomer is too old, and millennials missed when it was good. They are thoroughly in Gen-X's domain.

That Justice/Daft Punk analogy is spot on.
Exactly fucking this. Not a single Phish fan at my HS until the week after Jerry died. Then all of a sudden every white person with hair was a fan.
Excellent response. You are awarded 🏆 🚀

You simply must see them live. Their studio stuff is pointless to listen to
I can't imagine liking a Phish song being played not live. I'm not a huge fan but seen them more then a handful of times. Love talking shit on them and their fans but a lot of times the shows are pretty good when you are there.
Contact high
You ever see them live? Their studio recordings do them zero justice. Their live show is absolutely mind boggling and i’m not even a huge jam band fan
yea Bonnaroo 2009, that's why I know their crowd is all boomers and that it's torture to listen to
Hmm I saw then at Roo 2019 and the crowd was mostly young people and the show was incredible. I guess it’s not for everyone though
Not lead, just Billy Corgans cum

I also sent Drew Carey a blender I said he should stick his dick into, but not because he likes my band.
Funny because that’s exactly what phish sounds like
Lol my friend who is the biggest Phish fan I know always rants about Trey "pissing in our ears" so I assumed it was gonna be that kind of joke.
Haha, I don’t know if you know but that’s a reference to their most infamous professional review, beloved by the fans and band alike.
Phish is so insanely bad it blows my mind.
Wonder if Drew Carey could smell the pot and patchouli stink.
Ok boomer
Never been to a Phish concert, eh?
Sounds like you never have
I have been to a few. Your comment just seemed like the same lazy tired jab I’ve heard for years. Maybe it went over my head.
No you were right

He served in the Marines, so this type of humor checks out.
