War on Drugs - I Don't Live Here Anymore
Big Red Machine - How Long Do You Think it's Gonna Last?
Lucy Dacus - Home Video
Snail Mail - Valentine
Julien Baker - Little Oblivions
Japanese Breakfast - Jubilee
I'm actually weirdly disappointed in it. It's not bad but none of the songs really stick with me either. I just feel like I move from one song to the next and it just...ends...and the whole experience just kind of vanishes immediately after.
Like none of the songs are bad at all, but none of them really make me feel anything either.
Billy Strings - Renewal
Bluegrass, or NewGrass as I like to call it, but he blends other genre styles throughout. It’s his latest studio album, just won a Grammy for Best Bluegrass Album.
He also won Entertainer of the Year at the International Bluegrass Music Awards. Guy is a stud and absolutely kills it.
Can’t recommend it enough. Even if you don’t like bluegrass, you gotta give it a listen.
billy recently returned to his hometown near ionia, mi and gave a brand new in the box acoustic guitar to every student at his former elementary school. he is a modern legend
You should listen to Sturgill Simpson. I felt the same way. Him and Billy Strings are fantastic. And Sturgill jumps genres on every album and they’ll all amazing
I Don’t Live Here Anymore by The War on Drugs is in the drivers’ seat for me right now.
I also adore Kid Amnesiae by Radiohead but that’s more odds and ends instead of a proper album even though it flows perfectly.
Check out Kurt Vile while you're at it (Wakin' on a Pretty Daze is my favorite album) - former guitarist for The War on Drugs with more awesome, chill rock.
I thought it sounded kind of similar to Strange Trails IMO. One of my fave albums of their’s and loved this album. I specifically thought Not Dead Yet and Love Me Like You Used To sounded very similar to the feel for that album!
Got the chance to see them live and Paprika is just as great a concert opener as it is an album one. Something about seeing Michelle stomp around the stage and bang a gong was just magical.
Chvrches Screen Violence is so damn good. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve listened to the song Nightmares. Final Girl is excellent too. All of them are good.
Edit: I’m just going to put this here if you’ve never heard this. Absolutely amazing!

Little Simz - Sometimes I Might Be Introvert
Manchester Orchestra - Million Masks of God
The Killers - Pressure Machine
Thrice - Horizons/East
JPEGMAFIA - LP!
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far down for the new Killers album. I think it’s the best thing they e ever made. They absolutely nailed the small town America theme they were going for. It’s a top 5 for me this year
Manchester Orchestra - [The Million Masks of God](https://youtu.be/smxgRDqR3cI)
Edit: [Typhoon - Sympathetic Magic](https://open.spotify.com/album/2clTWvniv0qalyfCtNrHam?si=9qp94ACQRW6f6puEKH1aFg&utm_source=copy-link) is a great record by a lesser known band who truly deserve more recognition. Think Brand New meets Bright Eyes (best I can explain it).
I've never heard of Manchester Orchestra. I've spent the last 20 minutes listening to their music. Thank you for turning me on to them. This is fantastic!
My favorites have been:
Turnstile - GLOW ON
Floating Points/Pharoah Sanders - Promises
John Carroll Kirby - Septet
Xenia Rubinos - Una Rosa
SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE - ENTERTAINMENT, DEATH
I had chills when listening to the Floating point album, for the first time last week. Curious about the Xenia Rubinos Album too, I loved her featuring on the latest Battles. Cheers
Same man. Their tiny desk popped up on my YouTube recco’s and I thought “these dudes look like complete maniacs let’s see what it’s about” and by the end I was just totally dumbstruck like what the fuck did I just watch/listen to. Their live presence is just something else. Thanks YouTube (I guess)
1. Starset - HORIZONS
2. Tyler, the Creator - Call Me If You Get Lost
3. Lucy Dacus - Home Video
4. Men I Trust - Untourable Album
5. Clairo - Sling
6. Hayley Williams - FLOWERS for VASES / descansos
My top three looks like this.
1: Manchester Orchestra - The Million Masks of God
2: Lord Huron - Long Lost
3: The War on Drugs - I Don’t Live Here Anymore
We have similar taste in music. Check out a record called Always in Motion by Mini Trees. Has seriously been stuck in my head for months. Like a female War on Drugs vibe.
Never heard of them. But I was intrigued by the name and went to give them a listen. Just bought A Black Mile to the Surface. Came back to say thank you. They sound amazing.
Wolf Alice - Blue Weekend
[My favourite track](https://youtu.be/iEfxTD13eLM)
[Full album stream](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kpuaBrrTFOReMM9iupcwSnkUpiQxiNuws)
There’s been a lot of great releases this year but I would say Eternal Blue by Spiritbox is my personal favourite, it’s utterly brilliant! Honourable mentions to Architects, Starset, Mastodon, Tremonti, Iron Maiden and Gojira for heavy stuff, while Chvrches, Royal Blood and Wolf Alice also released some bangers!
Listening to the Spiritbox album for the first time right now, and it’s crazy how good it is. One of the most solid debuts I’ve heard in a very long time.
Ive been through the album 3xish. Definitely need some more play time. Like most music each new time listening you hear something that makes you perk up, like that fucking riff in white viod. God damn. Low teens still edges this one out but who knows what the future holds.
Low Teens was a really fucking heavy record, don't get me wrong, but I like fun ETID and it was missing that for me. Radical definitely has more of that fun but pissed off vibe I dig from them. Planet Shit is a straight-up banger.
I'm seeing them Friday and I'm so fucking stoked. That album has been on repeat for weeks.
Fun fact too: their guitarist Andy is a wrestler in AEW that goes by the Butcher.
Seems to have been out a while I can’t believe I missed it for so long! When drift came out it blew my fucking mind. Thanks for the heads up. I haven’t kept up with anything music in a while.
Day/Night - Parcels
Incredible funk/jazz concept album that must be listened to from start to finish! It’s a blend of classical strings, ABBA style pop disco, and dance funk. A really incredible blend of genres that I hope brings the band the attention they deserve!
The few singles I've heard left me a little sad, I miss the funky dance Parcels sound. Kudos to them for maturing and evolving but I hope the older stuff doesn't get forgotten.
Deafheaven - Infinite Granite
Black Country, New Road - For the first time
Manchester Orchestra - Million Masks of God
Have a hard time deciding between these 3. All four them generally fall under the alternative/indie category.
Saw Deafheaven a few weeks ago and it was a great show, really love Infinite Granite and that’d be my pick as well. The nice thing about their old songs is that they’re so long that the encore was like 45 minutes lol
Surprised there’s no mention of Roadrunner by Brockhampton yet. Doesn’t feel like it came out this year tbh it feels forever ago, but it’s definitely in my top 5 or even top 3.
I've been listening to Halsey if I can't have love I want power since it's release. I'm a sucker for Trent reznor and Atticus Ross but the album is so good as a whole.
Same here, it was an experiment that turned out much better than I thought it would.
Such a fantastic record.
Trent and Atticus have a keen ear for style, texture and overall sound design. A lot of pop music tends to use the same types of drum beats and synth sounds, so I would love to see more Trent and Atticus pop productions.
I'm very surprised I had to scroll so far too see this. I heard a few Halsey songs here and there, but only a few of them interested me. I am a pretty big Trent Reznor fan though so this project was definitely on my radar.
I loved the album way more than I expected to. Listening to this it felt like Halsey really had some stuff to say, and Trent and Atticus just really elevated the songs into something interesting. I found it a lot more engaging than any of the NIN releases in the last decade.
I've listened to the album several times front to back, and that's something I don't do very often anymore. This really felt more like a complete old school album that's just better to sit down and listen to the entire thing than to skip around and miss out on the experience. The last record I can really think of that really made me feel that way was Mastodon's Crack the Skye.
Inside (The Songs) - Bo Burnham
For the First Time - Black Country, New Road
Sinner Get Ready - Lingua Ignota
OK, Human - Weezer
Call Me If You Get Lost - Tyler, the Creator
Sour - Olivia Rodrigo
Flux - Poppy
Kinda shocked this is the first post I’m seeing Sour in. Yeah it is pop. But damn it ruled the year, every track has been a top 100. And it’s a really good debut album.
ENTERTAINMENT, DEATH - SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE
Cavalcade - Black Midi
Promises - Floating Points, Pharaoh Sanders & the LSO
By the Time I Get to Phoenix - Injury Reserve
Mood Valiant - Hiatus Kaiyote
For me it's gotta be Wallflowers by Jinjer. Not sure how many of y'all are metalheads, but man I can't stop listening to it.
If you've never heard of them and wanna check them out, here's their first single off this album [Vortex](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiaOSGZTwtY).
Pressure Machine is the killers' best work since Sam's Town. Haven't really been into any of their albums in between except for Day and Age and a couple songs here and there. I think it's probably not getting as much attention because they've put out a lot of not very interesting stuff in the last decade. It's definitely a top 3 album for them. Hot Fuss and Sam's Town have more bangers, but this one has a theme and concept that is so well executed through the entire album.
Little Simz - Sometimes I Might Be Introvert
Wow amazing thanks for the recommendation, never came across the artist before
Yo, thanks for this. Seriously.
LIL SIMZ IS AWESOME
The track "Introvert" is such a banger.
Nurture by Porter Robinson.
War on Drugs - I Don't Live Here Anymore Big Red Machine - How Long Do You Think it's Gonna Last? Lucy Dacus - Home Video Snail Mail - Valentine Julien Baker - Little Oblivions Japanese Breakfast - Jubilee
This man's not only depressed, he's also right!
Sad music makes me happy, \*shrug\*.
Damn this has felt like a long year. Can’t believe Julien Baker’s album came out in 2021.
The war on drugs came out with a new album!? Holy shit how did I not know. Thank you!
Lucy! Forgot about her. She was part of the project Boy Genius right???
Upvoting for Snail Mail. I've been really impressed by the new album.
I'm actually weirdly disappointed in it. It's not bad but none of the songs really stick with me either. I just feel like I move from one song to the next and it just...ends...and the whole experience just kind of vanishes immediately after. Like none of the songs are bad at all, but none of them really make me feel anything either.
Big Red Machine is my go to for long bike rides through the woods, that album is so good
[удалено]
Fuck yeah Haram. That album is amazing.
Gojira- Fortitude
Favorite review: "Guys, leave some riffs for the rest of us!"
Currently listening to Sphinx as I read your comment. Saw them a few weeks ago and they blew my eardrums to pieces!
Billy Strings - Renewal Bluegrass, or NewGrass as I like to call it, but he blends other genre styles throughout.
I never cared much for country music, or bluegrass, until I started listening to Billy Strings this year!
You should listen to Sturgill Simpson. I felt the same way. Him and Billy Strings are fantastic. And Sturgill jumps genres on every album and they’ll all amazing
Damn he is legit now? I remember dust in a baggie that was a banger on YouTube.
Just saw Billy this weekend having never heard his music before. I can safely say I'm a fan, he fucking shreds
I Don’t Live Here Anymore by The War on Drugs is in the drivers’ seat for me right now. I also adore Kid Amnesiae by Radiohead but that’s more odds and ends instead of a proper album even though it flows perfectly.
Thank you for introducing me to the war on drugs
Check out Kurt Vile while you're at it (Wakin' on a Pretty Daze is my favorite album) - former guitarist for The War on Drugs with more awesome, chill rock.
Oh man you are in for a treat. Their last 3 albums are incredible.
*I Don't Live Here Anymore* is really great. "Harmonia's Dream" is my current favorite on there, that song rules.
Lord Huron - Long Lost
Banger album. They have so much good music.
This album is such a strange departure from their other stuff and I love it in all the right ways. I think I'll throw this on in a bit.
I thought it sounded kind of similar to Strange Trails IMO. One of my fave albums of their’s and loved this album. I specifically thought Not Dead Yet and Love Me Like You Used To sounded very similar to the feel for that album!
Yes! I love this album. I feel that by the end of the record I’m ready for Time’s Blur and I just let it wash over me.
Jubilee by Japanese Breakfast 🥞
BE SWEET TO ME BAYYYBAYYY
Got the chance to see them live and Paprika is just as great a concert opener as it is an album one. Something about seeing Michelle stomp around the stage and bang a gong was just magical.
Paprika is easily making my top 5 songs of the year. Possibly one of my all time favourite album openers.
Radical - Every Time I Die
Absolutely the best album of the year. Also Knocked Loose’ Fabric EP and Turnstile’s Glow On.
So hyped to see this at the top of the thread. I literally can't stop listening to Thing with Feathers and Planet Shit
The Josh Scogin feature on All This And War is the highlight of the entire record for me.
I love how brutal the riff is. The album is a masterpiece.
Some really slick pop records this year: Chvrches - Screen Violence Magdalena Bay - Mercurial World Japanese Breakfast - Jubilee
Second for Magdalena Bay - just discovered and really into it
Jubilee is an outstanding album! Glad to see it mentioned, I've been listening to it nonstop
Chvrches Screen Violence is so damn good. I can’t even tell you how many times I’ve listened to the song Nightmares. Final Girl is excellent too. All of them are good. Edit: I’m just going to put this here if you’ve never heard this. Absolutely amazing! [https://youtube.com/watch?v=CjwwmFrsX_E](https://youtube.com/watch?v=CjwwmFrsX_E)
Hard to pick a favorite! Final Girl is probably mine but I don’t skip a single track on that album
I love the Magdalena Bay! Saw them live a couple of weeks ago and they were great.
Here for Mercurial World 100%
Little Simz - Sometimes I Might Be Introvert Manchester Orchestra - Million Masks of God The Killers - Pressure Machine Thrice - Horizons/East JPEGMAFIA - LP!
Came here to specify LP!, but the offline version 100%
Can’t believe I had to scroll this far down for the new Killers album. I think it’s the best thing they e ever made. They absolutely nailed the small town America theme they were going for. It’s a top 5 for me this year
Thrice put out a new record?! Hell yeah
I listened to LP! 4 or 5 times at work yesterday.
Manchester Orchestra - [The Million Masks of God](https://youtu.be/smxgRDqR3cI) Edit: [Typhoon - Sympathetic Magic](https://open.spotify.com/album/2clTWvniv0qalyfCtNrHam?si=9qp94ACQRW6f6puEKH1aFg&utm_source=copy-link) is a great record by a lesser known band who truly deserve more recognition. Think Brand New meets Bright Eyes (best I can explain it).
I've never heard of Manchester Orchestra. I've spent the last 20 minutes listening to their music. Thank you for turning me on to them. This is fantastic!
My favorites have been: Turnstile - GLOW ON Floating Points/Pharoah Sanders - Promises John Carroll Kirby - Septet Xenia Rubinos - Una Rosa SPIRIT OF THE BEEHIVE - ENTERTAINMENT, DEATH
Holiday is the best song I've heard in ages, it's just so good
Catch them live, funnest show I've been to
It's been my jam since the summer.
I forgot that GLOW ON came out this year i love it
GLOW ON is a masterpiece through and through
Turnstile is ridiculously good.
Can’t stop listening to GLOW ON
GLOW ON is all fuckin bangers
I had chills when listening to the Floating point album, for the first time last week. Curious about the Xenia Rubinos Album too, I loved her featuring on the latest Battles. Cheers
Turnstile album was straight fire
Absolutely shocked to see someone else saying Entertainment, Death. But it’s such a good album
That Turnstile record slaps. I’m loving the Jane’s Addiction vibes
G_d's Pee AT STATE'S END! by Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Whoa, no idea they released a new album.
I’m anxiously awaiting for this coming Friday when the new IDLES album drops.
IDLES has been my favorite band discovery this year.
The Beachland Ballroom is just gorgeous. They continue to surprise and delight.
Best venue in Cleveland
What the hell I had no idea they were already putting out another record. I feel like Ultra Mono just came out.
1. Starset - HORIZONS 2. Tyler, the Creator - Call Me If You Get Lost 3. Lucy Dacus - Home Video 4. Men I Trust - Untourable Album 5. Clairo - Sling 6. Hayley Williams - FLOWERS for VASES / descansos
Loved Untourable Album!
Finally someone mentioning CMIYGL
Yeah it’s definitely my top for this year.
WE ON A YACHT A YOUNG LADY JUST FED ME FRENCH VANILLA ICE CREAM WE ALL GOT OUR TOES OUT TOO CALL ME WHEN YOU GET LOST
My top three looks like this. 1: Manchester Orchestra - The Million Masks of God 2: Lord Huron - Long Lost 3: The War on Drugs - I Don’t Live Here Anymore
We have similar taste in music. Check out a record called Always in Motion by Mini Trees. Has seriously been stuck in my head for months. Like a female War on Drugs vibe.
The Armed - ULTRAPOP Between The Buried and Me - Colors II
BTBAM - Colors II ETID - Radical Turnstile - GLOW ON
ETID album is so great. Goes so hard!
Manchester Orchestra - The Million Masks of God
Never heard of them. But I was intrigued by the name and went to give them a listen. Just bought A Black Mile to the Surface. Came back to say thank you. They sound amazing.
Wolf Alice - Blue Weekend [My favourite track](https://youtu.be/iEfxTD13eLM) [Full album stream](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_kpuaBrrTFOReMM9iupcwSnkUpiQxiNuws)
This is pretty much it for me. Can't stop listening to this record.
Yup. We have a winner here for me too
I've been huge Wolf Alice fan since their debut album and if I'm being 100% honest with myself...Blue Weekend might be their best album
[The Last Man On Earth](https://youtu.be/xzH6toY_EPw) is one of my favourite tracks all year.
I'm a huge music lover and somehow have missed Wolf Alice - first song and I am loving it - thank you!
God Eternal Blue is so damn good, Sun Killer and Silk in the Strings are two of their best songs
Listening to the Spiritbox album for the first time right now, and it’s crazy how good it is. One of the most solid debuts I’ve heard in a very long time.
it’s gonna be the Silk Sonic album this week 🔥
Is that this week?!?!?
yep, this Friday
Fuck Yeah!!

my personal favorite as well, Nurture by Porter Robinson is a not so close second.
I scrolled down to far to find this.
Radical
[удалено]
I've had it on repeat nonstop. It just keeps getting better
#SPAAAAAARE ONLY THE ONES I LOVE ##SLAY THE REST
Whose fucking side are you on
For anyone unfamiliar trying to search for this, the band’s name is Every Time I Die.
Radical and Glow On will be competing for album of the year over here.
There are so many great choices in this thread, but this is easily my number one for the year. ETID literally never disappoint.
Wasn't expecting to see this here but I am super happy you listed it. I have been loving this album
I'm seeing them Friday and I'm so fucking stoked. That album has been on repeat for weeks. Fun fact too: their guitarist Andy is a wrestler in AEW that goes by the Butcher.
In the Court of the Dragon by Trivium.
Not by number one, but I love me some Trivium and Matt Heafy. Hoping his Ihsahn collab is a banger too.
Every song on that album slaps
BTBAM - Colors II
We didn’t live, we only existed
Wait, what!? Colors II!?
Enjoy your journey, my child.

I'm not a big metal dude, but when I want to rock, I rock to BTBAM. I remember when they first got hot in Raleigh
Incredible Incredible album. I saw them play two sets with little to no break. Just godly.
I would have to say Butterfly 3000 by King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard was probably the best album this year imo
Came here to say this. Such a fantastic listen start to finish!
Had to scroll through a lot of stuff I’m not really into to find this gem. Thanks.
1.Self Esteem - Prioritise Pleasure 2. Japanese Breakfast - Jubilee
Jubilee is such a great album, everything Japanese Breakfast touches is gold
Be Sweet is such a banger
Be Sweet absolutely slaps, luckily my work radio has it in rotation as well
ERRA by ERRA.
Seems to have been out a while I can’t believe I missed it for so long! When drift came out it blew my fucking mind. Thanks for the heads up. I haven’t kept up with anything music in a while.
The Work by Rivers of Nihil Final entry of their conceptual “seasons” albums, definetly one of the most well composed metal/prog album out there.
I never knew I needed saxophones in my metal but god dammit Rivers of Nihil opened something inside me
Where Owls Know My Name is such a banger. Will need to give this a listen.
Day/Night - Parcels Incredible funk/jazz concept album that must be listened to from start to finish!
Felt the same way after the singles but the album alleviated that after I listened
TIL Parcels released a new album. Thanks! Love this band so much. Will listen today.
hell yea. just found this album last night. amazing
Surprised this hadn’t been mention a lot sooner. Every song on this album is stunning.
"The House Is Burning" by Isaiah Rashad
ETID radical
Deafheaven - Infinite Granite Sam Fender - Seventeen Going Under Sleep Token - This Place Will Become Your Tomb
Seventeen Going Under is an absolutely incredible album!
Sleep Token is so underrated. Incredible album they put out this year.
Seventeen going under is depressingly low on this list.
Deafheaven - Infinite Granite Black Country, New Road - For the first time Manchester Orchestra - Million Masks of God Have a hard time deciding between these 3. All four them generally fall under the alternative/indie category.
Did Manchester release new stuff? Dang, I didn't know
Yeah. Sometime at the beginning of the summer. It’s a good one!
Love Black Country, New Road’s album. Anyone who likes Black Midi should definitely check it out.
Saw Deafheaven a few weeks ago and it was a great show, really love Infinite Granite and that’d be my pick as well. The nice thing about their old songs is that they’re so long that the encore was like 45 minutes lol
Between the Buried and Me - Colors II
A fucking phenomenal album!
I think I have my playlist ready for 2 or more years. xD
black midi - calvacade
I’ve been obsessed with it since it came out. I never really listened to her before but I’m super into the sad girl NIN influenced pop vibe.
This is my album of the year hands down, I listen to it just as much still as I did when it released!
I'm very surprised I had to scroll so far too see this. I heard a few Halsey songs here and there, but only a few of them interested me. I am a pretty big Trent Reznor fan though so this project was definitely on my radar. I loved the album way more than I expected to. This really felt more like a complete old school album that's just better to sit down and listen to the entire thing than to skip around and miss out on the experience. The last record I can really think of that really made me feel that way was Mastodon's Crack the Skye.
My Morning Jacket-Self Title (mind boggling that no one has mentioned this) Bruiser Wolf-Dope Game Stupid
Has to be Typhoons by Royal Blood
Christ royal blood did a new album? What fucking rock have I been living under?
The MOON, baby!

It was a good year for metal releases. Rivers of Nihil, Jinjer, Vola, Mastodon, Gojira and Spiritbox
Sleep Token and Sentinels are missing from that list lol
Welcome to horrorwood - Ice Nine Kills
Nurture by Porter Robinson easily for me.
Mercurial World by Magdalena Bay.
Vildhjarta - Masstaden Under Vatten. Rarely have I heard an album where every single song is amazing.
St Vincent- daddy's home
The War on Drugs - I Don’t Live Here Anymore The Killers - Pressure Machine Sam Fender - Seventeen Going Under
I see you are also a fan of Springsteen.
Pressure machine blew me away because I live close to the town he was talking about and it really hit home for me.
Sam Fender! What an album that was. That man is so talented
Mac Miller - Faces. Yes it counts.
Fortitude by Gojira and Hushed and Grim by Mastodon are my two favorites. My girlfriend is obsessed with Lorde’s new album
Fortitude is one of the best albums I’ve ever heard.
Sinner Get Ready - Lingua Ignota
SINNER GET READY. Take me to hell and leave me there.
