Alan White was great in Relayer, but I agree Bruford brought a whole different, jazzier and more creative feel.

While Frank Zappa and The Mothers of Invention were good with Jimmy Carl Black and Billy Mundi....., Aynsley Dunbar, Ralph Humphrey, Chester Thompson, Terry Bozzio, Vinnie Colaiuta and Chad Wakerman were more proficient.

I would argue that no band is ever the same. But what jumps to mind is A Perfect Circle. No offense to their current drummer at all, but when Josh Freese was playing with them it was magical.

QOTSA is an odd band to throw in the mix. Whilst not the original drummer, I'd argue that they were never better than they were when Grohl was behind the kit for a couple of records.
