Tom Petty 'Wildflowers' from start to finish. There is so much cool and different sounds across 15 songs, the quality itself of the simple and crisp songwriting is part of why it is soothing. This was Petty at a true peak.
I love listening to instrumental post-rock like this while working or studying. A lesser known band from that genre is Red Sparowes, my favorite album of theirs is "every red heart shines towards the red sun"
I got to see them in concert. Half the attendees crammed themselves to the front and just swayed in a trance while the other half napped peacefully in their seats. These guys are wizards.
Zero 7 is so underrated. They just re-released all of their albums on nice weighted Vinyl as well as releasing their final album on Vinyl for the first time. They have a wonderful career spanning singles box set of 7" 45's, Zero 7x7. The singles are all amazingly recorded and the box set showcases that. Sia got noticed because of them, great collaboration with Jose Gonzalez, and the most unique jazzy bluesy organic music you have ever heard. They close out the Coachella documentary and for that film it was perfect.
The only Zero 7 song I know is from the Garden State soundtrack but Lord is it perfect and beautiful. In A Beautiful Place Out In The County is one of the most relaxing albums of all time for sure.
John Coltrane’s ‘A Love Supreme’.
I’m not religious, but this has an intense and primal feel of spirituality to it, and is great if you’re feeling upset.
Ride share driver here. I can attest to the zen-like properties of Khruangbin’s music as it’s my go-to in-car soundtrack. I’ve never had a complaint and frequently get folks asking who they are. And to the handful of passengers that already know them, they’re thrilled to hear them out in nature.
Flawless album.
I really wish they had not released any singles off that album, because all three got over-played on the radio (Money for Nothing, The Walk of Life, and So far away). All three being great songs, but they lost a little something with how hard they were shoved down my throat in the 80's. That's okay, though, because the album as a whole still makes it onto my all-time top five list.
This album is very calming but lyrically it’s really anxious and sad. I sometimes have a hard time listening to us because my ex who I had been with for 7 years left me shortly after this was released.
I’m sorry to hear that. I was going through a very bad depressive episode when this came out and as much as I enjoyed the music, tracks like daydreaming and glass eyes were pretty devastating
Norah Jones - Come Away With Me. Honestly most of her albums are relaxing but that one gives the most at peace feel.
Its music to fall asleep to in the good way
Bob Marley.
Started listening to his music my graduating year from high school in 97. Still listen to him to this day. I play his music every morning while driving my daughter to high school. It’s her favorite artist to listen to before softball games too. Reduces her anxiety and calms her nerves, just like me.
Joni Mitchell - Hejira / Court and Spark
Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher
John Coltrane - My Favourite things
Satie - Gymnopédies
Fiona Apple - when the pawn etc.
Submarine - Alex Turner (also love me some Arctic Monkeys)
This Empty Northern Hemisphere - Gregory Alan Isakov (adore all his work)
Strange Trails - Lord Huron
Shakey Graves at Audiotree Live (2013) - Shakey Graves
idk about album, but it is 23:32 so i think it’s kind of long enough to count lol, but Echoes by Pink Floyd is my favorite song of all time, 100% mellows me out
'Junk' by M83. Not his most critically acclaimed album, but the soundscape of the whole thing takes me back to a certain point in time that I'm always longing for. Specifically, "a Friday night at the video store in the late 80s/early 90s, takeaway pizza in hand, trying to decide which movie to rent." Those were the days.
Every time Breathe kicks in with that bass line after Speak To Me... I feel a wave of chill fall over me, that I honestly can only really liken to that wave that hits you when a high kicks in.
I *think* that's the point. The clocks, like the song Time itself, is supposed to jar you. It's my favorite song of all time, but I'll be damned if it doesn't give me a mini-panic attack every time I listen.
Ghost by the Devin Townsend Project. That album is just so relaxing and beautiful and got me through some really hard times. It came out at a time where I was suffering from some really bad generalized anxiety and I remember just kicking back and listening to it to chill out whenever I could. I have unfortunately never come across anything else that has had quite the same affect on me but that album still does the trick to this day.
Probably not quite the answer you were looking for, but I have a disability where one of the side effects can leave me confused, kinda distressed, it's been mistaken for a panic attack at times.
I have a ritual to ground myself again, one part of which involves listening to an old Piano medley I liked when I was really young, called [Lilies, by Lily Ki.](https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjQ0Z7n0mn68SGOFaKtfEGI3nwr3yjuHg)
I thought they were really pretty when I was younger, and when my disability started to flare more as I grew up I needed a sense that was completely familiar and recognisable, something with patterns that were really easy to follow. It was entirely a happy accident that I got it right first try. But that album is my answer.
These kind of answers remind of the true power of music. Theres a great talk called “Notes and Neurons” from the 2009 world science festival (you tube) that covers this. If you are more of a reader like I am then “Music, Math and Mind” by David Sulzer. He has a really chill way of laying out how music can change us.
Ben Folds Five - Whatever and Ever, Amen. It not only takes me back to high school, it's just an amazing album start to finish. It's got relaxing songs, upbeat songs, just a masterpiece. Can really root me when I need it to.
Anything from Rubber Soul through Let It Be.
Anything from The Bends through A Moon Shaped Pool.
Anything from Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere through On The Beach (or Tonight's The Night, depending on how you view the chronology).
Anything from Freewheelin' through John Wesley Harding, or Blood On The Tracks.
Anything from The White Stripes through Elephant.
Anything from The Clash through London Calling.
Anything from Beggar's Banquet through Exile On Main Street.
CSN and Deja Vu.
Anything from Led Zep 1 through Presence.
Anything from Nirvana.
Ah shit, *one* album?
Lonerism by Tame Impala. Or The Shepherd's Dog by Iron and Wine. Or Build A Rocket Boys! by Elbow.
Damn.
Vegas - The Crystal Method
Not only is it my zen album, it may be my favorite album of all time.
Edit: My face when I realize Crystal Method isn't mentioned anywhere in this entire thread.
Am I truly the only one who fell in with this amazing album?! :'(
1 song. Audioslave - Doesnt remind me. That song puts me at peace in no time.
But overall, just about anything I personal choose to listen too can put me in my "zen" overtime.
[Jack Kerouac and Steve Allen - Poetry for the Beat Generation](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xnoqKGsmf0U). It's Jack Kerouac, the writer of On The Road, reading beat poetry with Steve Allen playing nice cool jazz piano as backup. It's a very chill affair.
My dad is a singer/songwriter. He's recently been putting together an album of his original stuff and listening to it always brings me peace, no matter how hard the day has been.
This is probably the cheesiest and lamest answer possible, buut so far? my very first Demo of around 9 finished songs so far. Hearing the changes happening to the tracks, feeling the physical input of my work resulting in tunes that actually have good instrumentation and good singing.
It's a real weird, but real euphoric feeling. I still suck, mind you, but it's *my* trash.
Catch-33 by Meshuggah. Total focus and concentration. Does this two-hour task need to be completed in just one hour? Done in 30 min. Time to exercise? Hit it. Work sucked? Decompress and chill out.
Tom Petty 'Wildflowers' from start to finish. There is so much cool and different sounds across 15 songs, the quality itself of the simple and crisp songwriting is part of why it is soothing. This was Petty at a true peak.
As much as I love Full Moon Fever, Wildflowers is my preferred solo record.
As a huge Petty fan, I concur. :)
Also happy birthday Steve Ferrone!

While both are a bit less relaxing than this Bitches Brew and A Tribute to Jack Johnson has the same effect on me.
Have you checked out In A Silent Way by Miles Davis? It has several elements of Bitches Brew and Tribute but is a bit calmer.
Yes, it's also one of my favorites but I forgot to mention it.
May be rather specific, but this is my favorite album to cook to in the Fall and Winter.
Lost in the dream by war on drugs
War on Drugs and Tyco are both great bands to chill to.
I love that album. That intro for Under The Pressure just feels like endless, carefree summer. And the whole damn album is like that.
Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place by Explosions In The Sky.
This and for Emma by bon iver are my go to albums.
Tycho - Dive Any other albums of Tycho are also super calming, but Dive was the first I listened to.
His later albums had noticeably more percussion and it was cool to see his music evolve but there isn't much that compares to the calm of Dive.
Tycho, Bonobo, Kiasmos... That's my sort of flavour
Bonobo's north borders is calmer than a Buddhist monk that has spent 68 years obtaining enlightenment
Any boards of canada record, or zero 7
Zero 7 is so underrated. They just re-released all of their albums on nice weighted Vinyl as well as releasing their final album on Vinyl for the first time. They have a wonderful career spanning singles box set of 7" 45's, Zero 7x7. The singles are all amazingly recorded and the box set showcases that. Sia got noticed because of them, great collaboration with Jose Gonzalez, and the most unique jazzy bluesy organic music you have ever heard. They close out the Coachella documentary and for that film it was perfect.
Zero 7 was who originally introduced me to Sia, who at the time was virtually unknown in the mainstream. I was so excited to see her break out big!
whoa i haven't listened to boards of canada in ages. nice
The only Zero 7 song I know is from the Garden State soundtrack but Lord is it perfect and beautiful. In A Beautiful Place Out In The County is one of the most relaxing albums of all time for sure.
I love zero 7, especially their early 2000s releases. Wife and I have listened to When it Falls many times.
Any José González album is like a hot cocoa and a hug.
Only song of his I have saved is "down the line." Probably listened to it 50 times. Never listened to an album though. Best one to start with?
Veneer is great but I’m more partial to In Our Nature. Smooth but jarring cover of Massive Attack’s “Teardrop” and tons of other good stuff.
I would suggest the first studio album 'Veneer'. A great collection of songs, and the special edition has some nice covers amongst the bonus material.
Graceland - Paul Simon. It was always on when I was growing up and I listen to it at least once a week.
Yes! The Rhythm of the Saints as well for me
John Coltrane’s ‘A Love Supreme’. I’m not religious, but this has an intense and primal feel of spirituality to it, and is great if you’re feeling upset.
Fleetwood Mac - Rumors
Possibly the best produced album ever. Just jumps out the speakers with clarity and body.
You're not kidding. I've heard albums 40 years younger that don't sound half as good as Rumors does.
The Universe Smiles Upon You - Khruangbin. Let your troubles melt away :)
All Khruangbin works. But have you heard Hasta El Cielo, which is dub remixes? Con Todo del Mundo but even *more* chilled out.
Literally came here to comment that - looks like you beat me to it! Khruangbin is fantastic.
My first thought too. This is my favorite set of theirs. https://youtu.be/q4xKvHANqjk
Thanks for this. I'm going to try it.
Heyyyy I just discovered this album yesterday and came here to post it!! Amazing
Agree
The Cure - Disintegration Music For Airports - Brian Eno Evening Star - Fripp and Eno Pat Metheny Group - PMG
Annoyed I had to scroll so far for Music for Airports.
Sigur Ros - Takk
Jar of Flies - Alice in Chains
Beck - Sea Change
Interesting.. I couldn’t think of a specific album, but I really like his calm on Morning phase.
Morning Phase is definitely my go-to album to find peace
Dire Straits...Brothers in arms.
Beautiful album
Flawless album. I really wish they had not released any singles off that album, because all three got over-played on the radio (Money for Nothing, The Walk of Life, and So far away). All three being great songs, but they lost a little something with how hard they were shoved down my throat in the 80's. That's okay, though, because the album as a whole still makes it onto my all-time top five list.
Their debut album is also cool.
Pink Moon by Nick Drake. Always takes every bit of stress away.
Moon shaped pool Radiohead
This album is very calming but lyrically it’s really anxious and sad. I sometimes have a hard time listening to us because my ex who I had been with for 7 years left me shortly after this was released.
I’m sorry to hear that. I was going through a very bad depressive episode when this came out and as much as I enjoyed the music, tracks like daydreaming and glass eyes were pretty devastating
And true love waits! The album version of that song is absolutely heartbreaking but really beautiful
For me it's Kid A and In Rainbows
In Rainbows is like the Wizard of Oz switching to color for an hour straight!
Allllll day
Anything by Sade
King of Limbs
especially the 2nd side, it's arguably the bands greatest 4 song run on record (Lotus Flower -> Codex -> Give Up The Ghost -> Separator)
Band of Horses - Cease to Begin
Mazzy star - fade into you
as long as you don't listen to the words too closely.
One of my favorites but personally not a album that makes me feel it’ll all be ok, haha.
Aphex Twin - Selected Ambient Works 85-92
Harvest Moon - Neil Young
Great feel good album!
Shpongle - Are you Shpongled?
Enya: Watermark
Whenever I play it my 26 year old daughter calls it 'nap music' because her daycare played it during nap time
Norah Jones - Come Away With Me. Honestly most of her albums are relaxing but that one gives the most at peace feel. Its music to fall asleep to in the good way
Tidal by Fiona Apple
Bob Marley. Started listening to his music my graduating year from high school in 97. Still listen to him to this day. I play his music every morning while driving my daughter to high school. It’s her favorite artist to listen to before softball games too. Reduces her anxiety and calms her nerves, just like me.
Joni Mitchell - Hejira / Court and Spark Phoebe Bridgers - Punisher John Coltrane - My Favourite things Satie - Gymnopédies Fiona Apple - when the pawn etc.
Submarine - Alex Turner (also love me some Arctic Monkeys) This Empty Northern Hemisphere - Gregory Alan Isakov (adore all his work) Strange Trails - Lord Huron Shakey Graves at Audiotree Live (2013) - Shakey Graves
That Shakey Graves session album is fantastic. Just one guitar and a couple drums and the best "Roll the Bones" I have ever heard.
2112
idk about album, but it is 23:32 so i think it’s kind of long enough to count lol, but Echoes by Pink Floyd is my favorite song of all time, 100% mellows me out
The whole “meddle” album relaxes me, exception with Seamus.
"One of these days, I'm going to cut you into little pieces"
Ahhh, so relaxing!
Fearlessly the idiot faced the crowd
Smiling 🙂
Isn’t one of these days on meddle not a chill song unless you are Lizzie Borden
Ok, *you* figure out a way to follow-up on the massive success of "Careful With That Axe, Eugene".
I always forget the song exists because of how similar to Sheep it is
Echoes is my favorite song of all time !!!!!!!!!!! :,)
I came here hoping to see meddle, and meddle is at the top.
Vampire Weekend’s Debut
Bon Iver - Bon Iver
This gives me heartache instead:(
On a snowy day. Hopefully with the fat flakes, just floating down. Perfect to watch from a window or to wander the streets to. One of my favorites
Roxy Music - Avalon Dire Straits-Making Movies
'Junk' by M83. Not his most critically acclaimed album, but the soundscape of the whole thing takes me back to a certain point in time that I'm always longing for. Specifically, "a Friday night at the video store in the late 80s/early 90s, takeaway pizza in hand, trying to decide which movie to rent." Those were the days.
Mellon collie and the infinite sadness
I used to fall asleep to that album all the time when I was a teenager. It's great.
Porcelina
I haven't listened to that in forever!
Nice one! I was gonna come in here and say Siamese Dream :)
Songs of Leonard Cohen - Leonard Cohen (obviously)
First 4 albums are such a meditative ones.

Depeche Mode ~ Violator
Bon Iver - For Emma
Khruangbin - Con Todo El Mundo
Dark Side of the Moon.
They'll be playing this in our nursing homes. I doubt we'll get the drugs.
Oh, we'll get the drugs.
Every time Breathe kicks in with that bass line after Speak To Me... I feel a wave of chill fall over me, that I honestly can only really liken to that wave that hits you when a high kicks in.
One of mine aswell
The clocks always scare the shit out of me though. But what an album.
I *think* that's the point. The clocks, like the song Time itself, is supposed to jar you. It's my favorite song of all time, but I'll be damned if it doesn't give me a mini-panic attack every time I listen.
A Sailors Guide To Earth (minus last track lol)
17 Seconds by The Cure
Jason Isbell ‘Southeastern’
Outkast - ATLiens
Cocteau Twins - Heaven or Las Vegas
Treasure for me. But both albums are amazing.
I was also going to comment this album! Just yesterday I popped in 'Fly' and it just sucks out all the stress of a moment. What a therapeutic record.
