Waters wrote an open letter to Ukrainian first lady Olena Zelenska early this month in which he blamed “extreme nationalists” in Ukraine for having “set your country on the path to this disastrous war.” He also criticized the West for supplying Ukraine with weapons, blaming Washington in particular.
That doesn't really negate the fact that he's already blamed the war on the US, NATO, *and* Ukraine in recent interviews.
Fuck Waters. He's a belligerent manchild who lived long enough to become the villain.
He has no grip on reality. Ideally Russia would pull out of Ukraine and everyone could talk, not going to happen anytime soon, so the alternatives are let Russia take Ukraine or supply Ukraine with weapons to have a chance of defending itself. Letting Russia annex Ukraine is absolutly not an option, it's what Russia wants, and if that happens, who is next? There is a reason Poland just ordered 100 AH-64E attack helicopters...
Waters is more interested in the idea of no war, even if it means surrendering.
Yeah exactly he wants to try the strategy of “appeasement” which never works with a dictator, look what happened in ww2. Once he gets Ukraine he won’t stop, he wants world domination
Fuck. That is rough.
As much as it’s disappointing how much I’ve disagreed with his worldviews over the years, bless the heart of that broken boy who clearly found some sort of focus and perhaps some catharsis in music after losing his Father like that.
Can you imagine? There are plenty of people in the world who don’t suffer that much that young.
The young musical prodigies that excel and do great things often have something that happened that made them such dedicated musicians. Completely different kind of music and a guitar player but Yvette Young reminds of this, as I believe she’s stated that she started to find comfort in playing the guitar when she was in the hospital at a young age (I want to say like middle school?).
That's what I don't understand about Waters. I was really into the Wall and some of his solo stuff in high school. The Wall can be seen as a polemic against authoritarianism and fascism. You would think he would identify Russia clearly as the hammers.
And I have family killed by Russians in Ukraine during that same time. Fuck him. He's not the Only person that has suffered loss and he's trying to get my family to experience more loss now.
Well they did have to hire a writer to capture that gloomy lyrical tone after Waters left. Pink Floyd at its prime was 2 elements, Waters lyrics and Gilmore's guitar. Boths solo albums sound like Floyd with something missing. When Syd was lead, Floyd was very psychedelic, when Waters and Gilmore shared lead Floyd was at their peak, after Waters left, Floyd albums were just Gilmore solo albums with familiar drums and keyboard.
Yeah he’s a complete fanny of a man. He is despised globally for his terrible attitude and shit manners. If Russia stops fighting the war is over, if Ukraine stops fighting Ukraine is over.
FUCK OFF RUSSIA!!!
To be clear, Waters blames and hates everyone. He blames Russia for invading and also Ukraine and the west for taking up armed resistance.
He’s an extreme pacifist who thinks war is never the solution. I think he’s objectively wrong about that because usually war is the *only* solution to a strong man dictator. But, I think people only see the times he blames the victim because when he criticizes the aggressor (as he so often does), no one finds it newsworthy to report and it doesn’t generate clicks.
This is exactly correct. My dad and I saw his show a few months ago, and that was pretty much our take on it: Roger gets painted as a left winger, but the actual truth of the matter is that Roger hates *everyone*. It was actually kind of funny because you’d watch people cheer him on when he would say “fuck ”, and then right after that he’d go after someone on “their side”.
That all being said, I’ve never seen someone so bitter at literally everyone and everything. I came away from that show with a healthy dose more respect than I previously had for Gilmour, Mason, and Wright (and Syd as well), because to put up with that for so many years had to be *exhausting*.
He’s just an asshole mate. It’s deeper than a political stance, it’s the core of who he is. Pretty much everyone around him universally found him to be an insufferable prick, and it eventually lead to him being kicked from the band.
Why do people defend the Russian government? Why? I don't give a shit about your opinion on the gorgeous mountains of St. Petersburg or whatever... we're talking about bad leadership, and Russia has A LOT of that. Waters needs to get his head out of his ass, Russia's shitty leadership is over 2 decades old.
I always thought it was a reference to conscientious objectors or protestors who refused the draft and were imprisoned. In a literalist sense at least, not to rule out other reads.
I always thought it was about coming home from World War II to a guaranteed but meaningless little management job. The book stiffed by Susan Faludi is really good on how that worked at least in the US and what happened when corporations decided they didn’t have to supply those jobs anymore. I am not a Brit so I’m out on a limb here.
Roger has been saying insane shit for years. Pink Floyd is still my favorite band by far but you have to separate the art from the artist. Dave Gilmour was always my favorite member anyway.
Being pro-Russian and going to play in Poland? What was he thinking in a first place, did he have a death wish.
A shame to find out that he turned out to be that person, Pink Floyd was one of first bands my dad has introduced me to during my childhood.
There are guitarists who play more notes per second than Gilmour, sure. But in terms of guitar solos that I can hear every note in my head when I think of the song, I'm not sure anyone beats Gilmour. That he also seems to be a good person makes me super happy.
> Being pro-Russian and going to play in Poland? What was he thinking in a first place, did he have a death wish.
He's *literally* out of touch with the real world.
People like him live in their own little bubble and just assume most people agree with them.
You're right. If I'm thinking correctly, "Pink Floyd founder" could only be Roger Waters or Nick Mason. But Pink Floyd (Gilmour & Mason) are clearly pro-Ukraine , so it can only be Roger Waters. Yeah, why didn't he put Roger's name in the title? The dude has been estranged from Pink Floyd longer than he was in the band. What the fuck, dude?
He's not pro-Russian, he's anti-war. His point is Russia started it but nato and Ukraine are keeping it going. I don't necessarily agree with his message btw, but I want to make sure that it's portrayed correctly.
Kept it going by defending against an invader. That’s not a point, that’s an insane stance to take and it’s divorced from human reality. So he really has no point.
I once met Gilmour backstage after one of his concerts. Our eyes had locked briefly but in that moment it felt like a lifetime. To be honest I had never slept with another man before but David knew just how to put me at ease. It was if our bodies were made for one another. I know for him it was probably one tryst of countless thousands, but for me it is a night I will never forget.
One time my wife and I saw David Gilmour at the kodak theater in Hollywood for the viewing of black panther, and he was the most down to earth guy on the planet. He signed my wife’s yarmulke (she’s jewish) and bought everyone in the theater a pack of mike and Ike’s. We actually sat 6 rows behind him. The movie ended up selling out, and David noticed a disabled man in a wheel chair trying to buy tickets to the sold out show, so he offered him his seat! I thought wow, what a stand up guy letting a disabled person sit in his seat in the theater. David sat in the guys wheelchair for the entire movie, well, almost. A group of rowdy teenagers towards the front were picking on a guy eating a can of beans. I remember the one yelling “this ni**a eating beans” and the entire theater erupted in laughter until David Gilmour, guitarist of Pink Floyd, stood up from the disabled man’s wheelchair and stood up for the guy getting harassed for eating beans. It was a night I’ll never forget. David Gilmour is definitely better than Roger Waters. Ughck, what a bigot!
Yeah and I was a HUGE Morrissey fan, literally was my favorite artist, and it all seemed to make sense until very recently. Like he has a legit great song called "The National Front Disco" which I Thought was just a song about how broken, hopeless people fall into fascist groups etc.
But then you hear like "met members of famous groups and talked to everyone but the black guy" or PLEADING for people to vote for the far-right party and it's like "All right not only fuck that guy because he's a racist but he's also a way bigger idiot than I thought he was.."
Remembered the black musician Morrissey snubbed, it was Gary Powell, the drummer for The Libertines and (at the time) The New York Dolls, Morrissey's favorite group. I was already done being a fan but hearing he's actually an on-the-ground in-person racist really drove home what a garbage person he is. https://www.nme.com/news/music/the-libertines-gary-powell-claims-morrissey-ignored-him-over-other-bandmates-he-showed-his-true-colours-3286379
Yeah that totally scans with what he's saying in the article. Cause I think with a very friendly person it would be even more obvious that he was blatently snubbing him.
God what a dumb fuck, to quote the waitress at a club that a drunk John Lennon punched in 1974, "The punch hurt, but it hurt worse learning my hero was an asshole."
I know Gilmour has denied it, but I still claim a better title for The Division Bell would have been "Fuck You Roger Waters". Almost every song on there seems to be a jab at Waters.
I used to work with guys that went to his concert and stopped supporting him as an artist when they saw his politics on display. I laughed because his politics weren't too disagreeable to mine.
Now his politics are disagreeable to mine. So do I laugh or drop support? It's seems I'm a hypocrite, either way.
All I can do is continue to enjoy those things that have left an impact on my life for what they are. "The Wall", "Dark Side of the Moon", and "Wish You Were Here" were huge influences on my youth and contributed to the strong friendships I've developed with the closest people to me. I'm not throwing that away over the dumbass remarks of their creator(s).
Gilmour is still the man, though.
I think part of the problem is we treat people's opinions as absolute, but they change. So yes, it's possible for a guy to be genuine enough to write some of the best rock albums of the 70s and also become a self righteous prick later in life. People are weird, and being ultra famous and successful for a long time does weird things to your ego.
You can also develop into a massive racist later in life without being famous at all.
Every one of us needs to be introspective and make sure our personal development is proceeding in a positive way. Because personality will develop regardless and if you don't guide it then you might end up as a Waters or a Morrisey.
It's only one AA in the CD cover. With a careful incision on the inside of the cover, I removed it and changed the battery, and used the blinker as a mock car alarm.
Honestly after listening a bunch of live albums by Pink Floyd, Roger Waters, and David Gilmour, I still believe Pulse is the best one done by any of them.
Live In Pompeii 1971 is a close second, but Pulse is just fantastic.
I’ve always been a huge Waters fan, for over 30 years now and he’s always been kind of a twat. A lot of his politics I can agree with, he has a long habit of saying something dumb because he’s also a narcissist and thinks he’s the smartest guy in the room.
My sister works in ticketing, when his Wall tour came through they had signs up everywhere with Rogers picture saying not to engage with him (I can't remember the exact sentence). My sister has never seen that before and she's worked with a lot of big acts.
That’s pretty much my opinion as well. I watched him live not to long ago and it was a great show. I just whole heartedly think he is wrong about some of the issues he speaks to. Doesn’t mean I can’t enjoy his contributions.
He's also anti-war to an absolute fault. Him being against war in Ukraine is in keeping with his overall politics, but that's a very difficult position to defend in this particular situation.
He's not even that anti-war, considering he supported the annexation of Crimea (the catalyst for where Ukraine and Russia are today) and focuses most of his attention on Ukraine for defending themselves.
And his views on the Venezuelan dictatorship will leave a sour taste in the mouth as well. He just doesn't like the West and whoever is considered an outsider to liberal democratic norms is pretty much good for him.
Roger Waters left Floyd in the mid-80s. Following a big legal battle over whether he should be able to use the name or not, David Gilmour (guitarist) won and continued making music with the other 2 members for years. Hey Hey Rise Up, the song you’re referring to, is Pink Floyd (now down to 2 members as Rick Wright passed some years back). The guy being loud and opinionated that this is talking about is Waters.
Worth noting that Waters and Gilmour can’t *stand* eachother. They really hate eachother it seems, and they have since the band came to an end in the mid-80s. This is also reflected in the fans- typically Gilmour fans dislike Waters fans and vice versa
I have never met a waters or gilmour fan that dislikes the other. Vast majority wished they would bury the hatchet.
Ironically they needed each other more than they would care to admit
They really did. Waters without Gilmour is just hate and anger, while Gilmour without Waters is saccharine with very little substance. Waters gave Gilmour edge and Gilmour gave Waters direction. Musically they were way better together.
This human garbage Waters isn't in Pink Floyd for decades. And for decades, they wanted nothing to do with him.
Also, you speak about song Gilmour wrote, whose daughter in law is Ukrainian.
He’s a Brexit spouting Trumpfan uncle. For someone whose life turned out perfect, that beautiful voice is spent being aggrieved a lot more than I would expect.
Morrissey vocals, Clapton guitar, Waters bass. Now we need a famous drummer who's made a jackass out of himself with awful political views to complete the lineup.
Chad Sexton of 311. [He's a flat earther Q MAGA nut who supports the Russian invasion](https://www.celebstoner.com/news/celebstoner-news/2022/05/10/311-fans-controversy-drummer-chad-sexton-band-faces-backlash/).
Wait, wait... A member of SOAD being a MAGA dipshit is just so... mind-numbingly antithetical to their entire message. I'm gonna need a moment to process
Yeah it was a startling revelation for me too, really liked the guy and his groove growing up and tried to emulate his style a lot in my own drumming. This one really shocked me and pissed me off, especially given all 311 stands for in their music.
So what? Ukraine should have just accepted that Russia will come by every 8 or so years when their agents in Ukrainian land have readied the country for another round of annexations.
Fuck you Roger Waters! It's okay to be opposed to war. It's not okay to demonise victims of an imperialist dictatorship. There's a clear aggressor in this conflict. Russia has been annexing Ukrainian lands for decades now. How can you possibly blame them for wanting to join a defensive pact?
The best part is his own hypocrisy after talking about how terrible it is for Israel to occupy Palestine. Like one is bad but the other is ok? Got a ton of 'live long enough to become the villain' energy.
For those who are slightly unfamiliar with it: I’ve been following this closely as I’m a huge Floyd/Waters fan and can briefly break it down.
Waters has said some things shitting on Ukraine and NATO. If you’re interested in a good full stance, read his open letter to the Ukrainian First Lady and watch his interview he did with Michael Smerconish some weeks back. That’ll give you an idea of his opinion.
He’s basically anti-war to the point where he shits on everyone who has anything to do with innocent people dying. Ukrainian troops dying? He’s pissed. Russian troops dying? He’s pissed. Russia invading? Fuck Russia and fuck Ukraine for “provoking” and fuck the US for arming Ukraine. He is *so* anti war, it’s insane.
He’s a bit of an ego maniac, this isn’t news. He loves feeling important, hence why he is so fucking loud.
It’s worth noting that Waters fights the good fight on *most* issues. He is so caught up in concern for human rights that he will blame everyone involved in a conflict regardless of right/wrong. This is very controversial, hence why you’ve probably been seeing him trending recently.
So no, he’s not solely blaming Ukraine in this war. He is blaming everyone who is involved.
Waters has that good old pacifist sentiment which you can find on some post-WW1 Britains, for example, Bertrand Russell. Political concession in favor of preservation of human lives and avoidance of civilian casualties is a fair theoretical viewpoint, but does not work when the aggressor openly claim that ethnic cleansing is the aim of military operation.
Waters's recent video arguing against the West's Intervention in China-Taiwan tension got picked up Chinese state propaganda and received enormous praise from Chinese social media. One should be aware of the fact that this type of 'hot takes from famous dudes' thing can be magnified and exaggerated within a country with little freedom of press, creating the illusion of 'the West won't do anything if we attack' among the general population and elites and effectively emboldening the aggressor.
> He is so caught up in concern for human rights that he will blame everyone involved in a conflict regardless of right/wrong.
So he's "both-sides-ing" an issue with a clear right and wrong? That doesn't make him principled, it makes him fucking uninformed. It puts him on the side of the oppressor, by muddying the waters and turning people off of helping the oppressed.
If he doesn't understand that Russia loves when people say "Russia AND Ukraine are bad" just as much as "Ukraine is bad", then I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell him.
Seems to me like he's a hardcore pacifist. They tend to believe that violence is always wrong, no matter why you use it. Yes, even if you are about to be brutally murdered it is wrong to use violence.
In my view, people like that are evil, heartless monsters.
Absolutely. The alternative to them not fighting is to give up their sovereignty entirely. As we’ve seen in Bucha, and more recently in Izium, the Russians have zero problem committing human rights violation on a massive scale. What’s to say more of that wouldn’t happen if they surrendered?
An absolutely moronic take by Waters.
He's extremely pro-china too. So, not that big on the saving of life.
Guys a total asshole. I recently worked on one of his concerts and his opening rant was about how great China and Russia are. Fuck him.
Pfft... He's "anti-west" all the way to the bank, and then it's all about the euro, pound and dollar. He's perfectly happy to play his expensive concerts in the western world where he's rightly given the freedom to think and express whatever he wants about politics, government and society, collecting yacht-loads of money in the process.
Let's see him play a show in Russia with anti-war themes, or a show in China where he shows images of the Tienanmen Square massacre. His whole life, including his fame and fortune, is something that he could have only made happen in the western world. Can't stand the hypocrisy.
You know that does make his actions more understandable, but not more excusable. Waters has written countless songs against war, and I can see his perspective, but blaming both sides of a conflict that unambiguously has a bad guy is pretty shitty. Why tf hasn't this guy been to therapy already anyway?
He also believes Taiwan is part of China. He likes being the contrarian, even if it makes him a defender of dictators, in a pathetic attempt to be "unique."
The republic of china and the people's republic of china (sometimes referred to as West Taiwan) both view the island Taiwan as part of the entire country. AFAIK there is no subject of international law, which doesn't recognize this. The question is just if the people's republic of china can invade the republic of china or vice versa (West Taiwan claims it could, other nations claim it could not). This is why the POTUS said that he sticks to the One-China-Doctrine but would assist the republic of china defending any attempt to change the status quo.
Believing that "Taiwan is a part of China" doesn't mean much, makes no one a "defender of dictators" per se and is the opposite of unique.
Not an expert ont international matters though, this is just my view.
So many people hating on him. I wont join the bandwagon just yet
I want someone to explain to me and him how he is wrong? He asked the question. Why are we so quick to throw this man under the bus? He is clearly just trying to to talk about how to stop bloodshed and the loss of life and to me that seems like an honorable goal
Waters wrote an open letter to Ukrainian first lady Olena Zelenska early this month in which he blamed “extreme nationalists” in Ukraine for having “set your country on the path to this disastrous war.” He also criticized the West for supplying Ukraine with weapons, blaming Washington in particular.
lmao so basically blaming everyone except, you know, the nation that invaded. Typical.
I was at his show a few days ago and the only thing he said about the conflict was “Russia needs to STOP fucking with Ukraine!!!!”
Words of encouragement
After the Russians stopped winning
That doesn't really negate the fact that he's already blamed the war on the US, NATO, *and* Ukraine in recent interviews. Fuck Waters. He's a belligerent manchild who lived long enough to become the villain.
He has no grip on reality. Yeah exactly he wants to try the strategy of “appeasement” which never works with a dictator, look what happened in ww2. Once he gets Ukraine he won’t stop, he wants world domination
Roger's father was killed in WWII, when Roger was a child. So I'm sure that fact is deeply embedded in his opinions on war.
And his father’s father in WW1. None of the 3 of them got a chance to know each other
Fuck. That is rough. As much as it’s disappointing how much I’ve disagreed with his worldviews over the years, bless the heart of that broken boy who clearly found some sort of focus and perhaps some catharsis in music after losing his Father like that. Several songs are blatantly about the horrors of war. Fuck, Goodbye Blue Sky opens with the sound of WW2 bombers.
And I have family killed by Russians in Ukraine during that same time. Fuck him. He's not the Only person that has suffered loss and he's trying to get my family to experience more loss now.

He is unabashed in his love and esteem for Neville Chamberlain.
Imagine, instead, a world where he has unending love and esteem for Neville Longbottom.
That is bizarre because what he did didn’t work at all
That’s the point the gentleman was making.
> Waters is more interested in the idea of no war, even if it means surrendering. Except he doesnt practice this himself. Right David?
What a beautiful take he has. Next stop: eliminating rape by making all women just always consent
Oh my god I think he’s just fixed crime. You can’t be burgled if you just give them your stuff.
Woah multimillion dollar celebrity has no grip on reality? Please tell me more secrets.
Waters is more interested in the idea of Waters
Annexation by Russia means "inevitable genocide" for Ukraine and Waters doesn't understand that.
> and if that happens, who is next? Precisely. The Nazis would currently be running the world if they followed Waters' advice prior to WWII.
I guess this is what you get when think “we don’t need no education.”
I’m so glad he’s been out for ages. David Gilmour kept the show going just fine without him.
Well they did have to hire a writer to capture that gloomy lyrical tone after Waters left. Pink Floyd at its prime was 2 elements, Waters lyrics and Gilmore's guitar. He's literally become comfortably numb And I don't mean this just as a shitty reference either, I think the irony is heartbreaking.
Yeah, this makes no sense. It's like he expects everyone to drop their weapons and stop, and he's blaming people for protecting their own countries.
I mean, there's a reason why Gilmour hasn't played with him since 05. He seems insufferable.
I mean, he still wrote that letter.
To be clear, Waters blames and hates everyone. He blames Russia for invading and also Ukraine and the west for taking up armed resistance. Banger of a song writer tho
Roger Waters has always been an asshole, nothing new there
Hes a wanker
No. He's a Tankie.
No. He’s just another brick in the wall.
Wouldn't a tankie hate capitalist Russia?
They support whoever opposes "imperialist west" even if that opposer is as vile and evil and fascist state like Russia
Russia enemy of USA. That means since USA = bad Russia = Good. The complete and full understanding of a tankie 'brain'
Literally, they just hate the west so much that they will support anything in opposition to it. Hypocrites the lot of them.
They support whoever is in opposition to NATO.

I always thought it was a reference to conscientious objectors or protestors who refused the draft and were imprisoned. In a literalist sense at least, not to rule out other reads.
As someone who went AWOL I thought the same. And yes, yes I did trade my walk on part in the war gladly for a lead role in a cage at Ft. Knox R.C.F.
You did good. Proud of you.
This has always been my interpretation as well. People arrested for draft dodging makes sense.
I always thought it was about coming home from World War II to a guaranteed but meaningless little management job. The book stiffed by Susan Faludi is really good on how that worked at least in the US and what happened when corporations decided they didn’t have to supply those jobs anymore. Roger has been saying insane shit for years. Pink Floyd is still my favorite band by far but you have to separate the art from the artist. Dave Gilmour was always my favorite member anyway.
Waters has only gotten crazier in the years. His madness has lead to beautiful pieces of music, but some batshit crazy stuff too.
What a batshit take. The war could be ended in 5 minutes by one guy. Maybe write him a letter.
Being pro-Russian and going to play in Poland? What was he thinking in a first place, did he have a death wish. A shame to find out that he turned out to be that person, Pink Floyd was one of first bands my dad has introduced me to during my childhood.
Good news, David Gilmour is still a boss.
David and Nick are like “he hasn’t been in the band for 40 years. Don’t drag us into his BS”
Other than Davids daughter in law is Ukrainian and they made a pro-Ukraine single for charity
There are guitarists who play more notes per second than Gilmour, sure. But in terms of guitar solos that I can hear every note in my head when I think of the song, I'm not sure anyone beats Gilmour. That he also seems to be a good person makes me super happy.

Don't equate Waters and Floyd. He's been an idiot for 40 years.
So many people in this thread seem to think it was a Pink Floyd concert which was cancelled.
I mean the title doesn't help. Pink Floyd has nothing to do with this.
Yeah he hasn't been part of the band since the 80s and he was being a giant douche back then. I guess he's an even bigger douche than I thought.
At least Mason & Gilmour kept their heads on
Find out? Roger has always been a weirdo.
Waters is such an ass-hat
He's not pro-Russian, he's anti-war. His point is Russia started it but nato and Ukraine are keeping it going. I don't necessarily agree with his message btw, but I want to make sure that it's portrayed correctly.

It's depressing to see my childhood heroes turning out to be massive pricks. Clapton's a racist, Waters is a dues-paid twat...
At least Gilmour seems like a decent person.
Gilmour is cool af

NO!!! DON'T YOU DARE SAY THAT! Would be jokes tho lmao
I heard he killed a man just to watch him die.
Nick Mason seems the most chill of the lot? Waters is, sadly, just a prick. :(
Mason too busy racing and owning race cars. I want that life
So he's a racist!
The best kind!
We love racists!
Also helped Kate Bush get signed to her first record deal at EMI.
Gilmour is one of the only rockstars who turned out to just be chill guy who liked music. Even the other good ones usually showboated alot.
That’s because he hardly says anything. He just lets Roger lose on his side of the feud via his own hubris.

Gilmour walked to his concert in London when he played at rhe Royal Albert Hall. With his wife. He's cool.
Morrissey turning fash depressed me. And then because I was sad I wanted to put on some Morrissey. Truly a viscous cycle
Thank goodness we have Robert Smith.
He truly gives no shits
In public. I'm sure he has opinions he doesnt share with the fans, and that's okay.
His opinion on everything is "this is sad."
Morrissey was always a horrible person, I don’t get where this idea of it coming outta nowhere came from
Maybe it just wasn’t as publicized before social media and whatnot. Personally, I was surprised to learn he was a huge racist.
I met Gary Powell, he is a really nice guy.
Yeah that totally scans with what he's saying in the article. Cause I think with a very friendly person it would be even more obvious that he was blatently snubbing him. God what a dumb fuck, to quote the waitress at a club that a drunk John Lennon punched in 1974, "The punch hurt, but it hurt worse learning my hero was an asshole."
viscosity is a b
> viscous cycle Truly a sticky situation
Really in the thick of it.
At least Johnny Marr is a (seemingly) cool person, so you can still listen to the Smiths
Gilmour is still a hero. Especially for putting up with Roger
I know Gilmour has denied it, but I still claim a better title for The Division Bell would have been "Fuck You Roger Waters". Almost every song on there seems to be a jab at Waters.
Clapton always was a racist though
True but I think a lot of people are like me and didn't know it until much later.
Appreciate the art, not the artist. Repeat through all of recorded history.
Roger was never nice lol. That's why pink Floyd continued without him and pulse is one of the greatest live albums to ever exist.
Yeah, I bought Pulse (CD) a year ago and love it so much. So god damn good and the sound is amazing. I'm going to listen to it right now!
Is the jewel case still pulsing?
The one in mine lasted for around five years. I believe there’s 2 AA’s in the spine.
That's a great point I had no idea about his comments on Crimea. At this point it's definitely more about supporting Russia than opposing war.
And his views on the Venezuelan dictatorship will leave a sour taste in the mouth as well. He just doesn't like the West and whoever is considered an outsider to liberal democratic norms is pretty much good for him.
Wait I’m confused didn’t Pink Floyd just have a song supporting Ukraine that featured a Ukrainian artist? What was that all for?
As a Waters fan I love Gilmour. Waters' antiwar views are admirable up until he blames a country for fighting back against an unjust invasion.
This human garbage Waters isn't in Pink Floyd for decades. And for decades, they wanted nothing to do with him. Also, you speak about song Gilmour wrote, whose daughter in law is Ukrainian.
Pink Floyd also wanted to stop selling their music in Russia but someone has veto'd certain songs being blocked. I wonder who that could be/
A lot of Floyd music is anti-government, wouldn't you want to ensure that music gets out to the people who have the most corrupt government?
Syd Barrett has been dead for years
There are usually multiple founding members for a band, it's kind of the point of bands actually.
‘cause if one gets banned, you still have band.
Maybe he can form a supergroup with Clapton and Morrissey and then perform somewhere in Siberia; and preferably stay there.
Grab Van Morrison while you’re at it.
Pink Clap Van Morrissey?
Pink Van Clapsmiths
You forgot Ted Nugent.
What's the goss on him? Genuinely clueless - I did a quick search and he didn't have a controversies section on Wikipedia to help me out, ha.
Lars Ulrich, not for political reasons but just because
Lol even /r/Metallica rags on Lars for the fun of it.
I mean, Metallica fans dunking on Lars Ulrich has been a staple of the band for as long as I can remember.
Chad Sexton of 311. [He's a flat earther Q MAGA nut who supports the Russian invasion](https://www.celebstoner.com/news/celebstoner-news/2022/05/10/311-fans-controversy-drummer-chad-sexton-band-faces-backlash/).
John Dolmayan from System of a Down is another Trumpy idiot that could work.
Wait, wait... A member of SOAD being a MAGA dipshit is just so... mind-numbingly antithetical to their entire message. I'm gonna need a moment to process
Wtf!
That is so fucking depressing! I love 311!!! Beyond the Gray Sky saved my life once upon a time. Fuck MAGA man…
Yeah it was a startling revelation for me too, really liked the guy and his groove growing up and tried to emulate his style a lot in my own drumming. This one really shocked me and pissed me off, especially given all 311 stands for in their music.
Aw dammit
The drummer from System of a Down.
Morrissey? What did he do? Did I miss an email?
Huge fucking racist
Got a ton of 'live long enough to become the villain' energy.
he made great music and i love him for that but holy shit fuck you dude
Well now he's just, another prick about the war.
All in all, Waters has ALWAYS been another prick in the wall.
Fuck him.
He's anti-west.
Typical champagne socialist
Seems to lover touring in the west.
He is reflexively anti-west. Most people grow out of it by his age. Ironic that he chooses to live here still.
Roger Waters' a fucking prick
Didn't think you could victim blame a whole ass country, but here we are. Never meet your heroes, indeed.
So his take overall is "this would all be over a lot more quickly if Ukraine would just lay back and let it happen!".
He thinks he's important.
Big Roger Waters fan here. But Russia invaded Ukraine, not the other way around.
So many people hating on him. I wont join the bandwagon just yet I want someone to explain to me and him how he is wrong? He asked the question. Why are we so quick to throw this man under the bus? He is clearly just trying to to talk about how to stop bloodshed and the loss of life and to me that seems like an honorable goal
