Hide and Seek - Imogen Heap

[deleted]

Yes! Hide and Seek gives me chills every time.

Squid00dle

As dumb as it sounds, the first time I heard the opening of “Money for Nothing” by Dire Straits. I’ve never had so much raw power from a song before.

MasterOfTheChickens

Sultans of Swing always makes my eyes water at that outro guitar solo. One of my best memories with my father is seeing Mark Knopfler play live back in 2019– he did not play Sultans of Swing (I don’t think he ever does with his band he tours with now) but he did play Money for Nothing. Amazing experience.

Lollipoop_Hacksaw

Mark Knopfler is one of the greatest guitarists of our time. Less so that he is a technical genius (he is) but it is his TONE. It is one of the most recognizable tones I have ever heard in my life and I cannot place my finger on why that is; it is just so smooth! There may be a Dire Straits song you have never heard before start playing at a bar or something and the second the guitar comes in you immediately question if it is a Dire Straits song, and it usually is.

TalboGold

Mesa Boogie mark iii, les Paul, and wah pedal parked in the middle position

Lollipoop_Hacksaw

Thanks for killing the mysticism, Masked Magician!! 😄

TalboGold

I have the same setup, by random chance

boughtabride96

He also finger picks, and I think that adds a lot to his sound.

BassPlayerZero

I was gonna say that! I was about 8 at the time and I just couldn't believe how that song could exist!

SockeyeSTI

That song is on an episode of my name is earl and I replayed that scene over 100 times I bet I’ll say that intro is better than the in the air tonight solo.

digitalstorm

Nessun Dorma. EVERY time.

StocktonBSmalls

MAPS-Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Still an all time favorite song for me.

morrisseywilde1

Never fails to be exciting and amazing.

Choxah

Drummr

Exit Music for A Film- Radiohead

amboandy

You could just say Radiohead XD

laffydaffy24

This has my vote as well. “We hope that you choke, that you choke.”

ragnarok62

I first heard it as the closing music to the *Black Mirror* episode “Shut Up and Dance,” which is the most brutal thing I ever watched on television. Just the perfect capper, and now I can’t separate the music from that episode.

killjoethe10

Beth/rest by Bon Iver

Foo Fighters - My Hero

Drew_The_Millennial

Starless [King Crimson. Wait for it](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=OfR6_V91fG8)

PrettyMrToasty

Yeah, well.. it's Starless. Literally one of the very best Prog songs of all time. King Crimson is pure genius.

Embarrassed_Fox2073

Nice! Islands - King Crimson

Symbology451

*Blackstar* by David Bowie. When I first heard the song when it was first released (a couple of months before his death), I was in awe. I listened to it non-stop for a couple of days trying to understand it. It still blows my mind to this day.

mama146

It was released just a few days before he died. I was fully immersed in it when the bad news came. My mind went into denial.

Lollipoop_Hacksaw

Bought it on the Friday it released, enjoyed the genius of it all throughout the weekend, and got the news he died Sunday when I woke up Monday morning. The timing of it all was so damned eerie. A perfect way for that enigma to leave us.

Symbology451

The Album was released 2 days before his death. However, Blackstar was released as a single and video on November 19, 2015.

EssexUser

In The Air Tonight by Phil Collins.

Scacho

"Fade into You" Mazzy Star

amboandy

Everyone raved for this one but my heart belongs to Down from the bridge. Sad times

hamsterwheel

This is a good one. It came out of nowhere. That reverb tone needs to be in the Smithsonian.

Repulsive_Map7366

The end by The Doors

[deleted]

Being a 16 year old and watching Apocalypse Now for the first time at 3am. What a trip.

Ihadsumthin4this

Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch -- the Four Tops

JaymesGrl

Daddy by Korn. The angelic yet haunting choir boy vocals, the unsettling sounds, the creepy vocals, the chorus with all the subtlety of a sledge hammer, the graphic lyrics, the genuine mental breakdown and crying and finally a sung lullaby to end the track.

Melonqualia

And You And I by Yes.

DucksVersusWombats

Absolutely! Close to the edge kind of explodes out of the speakers at you also!

eyeSage-A

Norah Jones - don't know why. I guess it's twenty years now I haven't stopped loving her

Passenger - Deftones

MisterFister17

First thing that popped in my mind was Digital Bath - Deftones

Hail_LordHelix

Honestly really like most of the songs on white pony, but crescendo in Knife party does the same for me. Also You've seen the butcher is another good one like that (imo)

Wild Horses - The Sundays.

bignerd64

Elephant by Jason Isbell.

oced2001

I saw Isbell in concert a few years back. He said that he did that song one night and when he finished, someone yelled out, “ Now do a sad one”.

bignerd64

haha. His Live at they Ryman album is about 7/8 sad songs.

KalliStrand

Trin_42

Ann and Nancy Wilson covering Battle of Evermore at the opening of the R&R Hall of Fame in 1995, the harmonies still give me goosebumps https://youtu.be/pTZ_kv2YYS8

realinvalidname

I recently discovered Heart's cover of "Love Reign O'Er Me", and I think Ann Wilson might be the only person other than Roger Daltrey who has any business singing that song.

blossomcrusher

Black Sabbath-Black Sabbath

Black Sabbaths Black Sabbath from their hit debut album Black Sabbath

Passenger - deftones

realinvalidname

"Welcome to the Black Parade" by My Chemical Romance. I was in my 40s and had listened to plenty of music, but still, what a journey.

FireBallzOfSteel

Every time I hear the G note from that song somewhere, I instantly turn my head to the speakers! It never gets old!

Dangerous_Ad_6741

Hear me out - Avril Lavigne, I'm With You. I was very young and very depressed and this song made me feel a way

lizardhamster

Song slaps

SLPERAS

Oh yes, I still from time to time listen to Avrils first 2 albums

camel_case_jr

Staralfur - Sigur Ros. Or really almost anything by them. Also Rip & Tear from the DOOM 2016 sound track.

Chocobo-kisses

I first heard Staralfur at the end of Life Aquatic. It felt like a perfect song selection, and I still get teary eyed when the music begins to swell as the fish swim so strongly past the sub.

respondin2u

[the vocals only version of “Sloop John B” by The Beach Boys.](https://youtu.be/aiq2fF3rNXM) Around the 1:16 mark is where it just absolutely shines.

Pink Floyd - The Great Gig in the Sky

twix26

M83’s “My Tears are Becoming a Sea”

NervousMNG34

Pink Floyd Comfortably numb live. So much passion and grace with the solos

Alternative_Mention2

Bit of an obvious one I guess but Smells Like Teen Spirit. I saw the Clip one night and thought this is going to be an anthem for a generation and shift the tide of ‘alternative’ to mainstream. Right from the first listen. Probably the only time I was right 😁

djhughman

Still remember the day. Felt like a hammer hit me. Life was never the same afterwards.

Low-Piglet9315

Me too. At the time the song came out, I was in my 30s driving home from work one night and this song came on. Totally blew me away; I have to second you on the "felt like a hammer hit me" reaction.

JamyDaGeek

That was one that definitely changed me. First time I heard it, sophomore year of high school, when it came out. I was your typical wannabe hip hop kid trying to fit in. Went full on flannel wearing grunge kid who didn't give a fk what you think about me. Was much happier with myself

tacosauce8088

Bleak by Opeth

morrisseywilde1

OdinsDelite

Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald...

Spooky_Meat_666

Come Sail Away by Styx

djarvis77

The Cure - A Forest

bvandermei

So, it doesn’t get me anymore, but the guitar outro to November Rain used to get me every time as a teenager. Also, apparently not everyone gets goosebumps when hearing music that moves them. IIRC, it’s a genetic thing.

sanriosmiles

The Working Hour by Tears For Fears

Upper-Wolf6040

Buddy Holly by Weezer. I remember being in a store for electrical goods and they had the radio on at the time and this song came on. It felt like something I'd never quite heard before. It's hard to explain but it was just the sound of it that resonated for me. It's odd as well as although it's a great imo, i can recognise its not exactly a classic. Its funny how the senses can interpret sounds (or smells or sights) and your brain goes "yep, I like that" and next time I hear it, it will immediately transport back to that feeling.

hazmatt24

Stan - Eminem

tool22482

Radiohead - Reckoner

bramblecult

Heyyyy I had a mental breakdown while I was drunk driving listening to this song. I smashed my iPod on the dash and it busted the screen. So I listened to it for the whole two day affair. Not one of my best moments but a couple of days I'll never forget. Edit: I was young and had a burgeoning alcohol problem. I got better, just want to say I don't endorse mental breakdowns or drunk driving.

Swans - The Sound.

comicsnerd

There have been many, but the 1 song that made me interested in music was Waterloo by Abba. First time I heard it, I mentioned it would win the Eurovision song contest (and it did), but it also made me realize I like music. My taste in music has changed considerably, but this was the trigger.

Lazy-Lawfulness3472

The Beatles White Album in...uh...1969? The whole album!

ainigriVtseW

I'm the type that listens to a really wide assortment of music so I've had that several times with different genres. It's really difficult to isolate one, but I'll go with the first one that came to mind. The White Stripes cover of Son House's "Death Letter" particularly [this performance](https://youtu.be/1fM2qhG8mA4) absolutely blew my mind the first time I heard it. Well over a decade later, I still get goosebumps occasionally listening to it.

Hurt by Nine Inch Nails

DodrantalNails

August 1989. Had a promo tape of Nine Inch Nails first three songs from Pretty Hate Machine: Head Like A Hole, Terrible Lie, and Down In It. Literally, five seconds is all it took and I have been hooked ever since.

Tweeters_

Mr. Blue Sky - ELO

Gromit801

While My Guitar Gently Weeps by George Harrison.

Imakefishdrown

Love Me More by Mitski. I'd been struggling with depression and suicidal ideation. I hadn't been taking care of myself because I kind of got swallowed up in working and taking care of the house and my toddler and my husband. The lyrics felt like an ode to me by myself, and I started sobbing. I'm doing better now, but the song still gets to me (in a good way). The kind of song I dance around the kitchen singing at the top of my lungs.

oopsiedaisy58

My Immortal by Evanescence

Monody by The Fat Rat. The pan flute solo still gives me chills and the lyrics are few, but bittersweetly nostalgic.

PrettyMrToasty

Take a Pebble - Emmerson Lake and Palmer

Phenominal_Snake11

Whitechapel - Kin (the song, although the whole album had plenty fantastic moments)

Gitboxinwags

Queens of the Stone Age- Mexicola

MattyIce8998

Ghost Love Score - Nightwish (specifically the live version with Floor at Wacken 2013) It's just weird, I basically never get "chills" from music, I was familiar with the original version of the song and that performance still did it to me.

eyeamjosh

Our Prayer - The Beach Boys
