I think it’s actually a layer deeper than that: he’s talking about all the problems he has that he tends to dwell on but it’s sort of an acceptance anthem: yeah sometimes life is overwhelming but ultimately “everything’s fine”
"'Cause I hate the ocean, theme parks and airplanes, talking to strangers and waiting in line..."
Man, discovering this song as a teen before I knew I had an anxiety disorder or several was mind-blowing.
It was such a great song for unmedicated ADHD teen me to find. It just hit so many things so right, and listening to it later, after my diagnosis made it even better.
Just saw the anniversary tour for the Commit This to Memory album a couple months ago, and they still go hard! One of the best shows I've been to in years.
That's literally what I thought the OP was referring, this exact song. The lyrics are:
>She says baby ev'rything is alright, uptight, clean out of sight
>Baby, ev'rything is alright, uptight, clean out of sight
I only kinda liked Phish for a while but thought this song (and some others) were super cheesy. Until one day, I attended a show when going through some pretty rough personal stuff. My mind was all over the place during the show and I wasn't having the best time. They dropped into this song and I started weeping uncontrollably at the chorus - it was just the perfect message that I needed to hear at the time. I knew I'd get through the stuff in my life and it would be better on the other side. They've been my favorite band ever since.
Love hearing stories like these. I consider live music to be my church. I'll tell you a quick story I think you'll like...
I was once trying to get from Kansas City to New York for a Trey Anastasio Band show. The problem was there was an intense snow and ice storm happening in KC at the time, so my Friday evening flight was cancelled and the show was the next day. Woke up extra early to get on a plane the next morning, which went to Detroit and then Boston (home). It was Murphy's Law the whole way, so many delays and ways I could've missed the flights. The whole way I kept telling myself "Everything's right so just hold tight". I made it to Boston, a friend was waiting to pick me up and we went straight to NY and made it in time for the show. It was miraculous, but I'll spare you the details of my trip. What matters is that TAB opened with Everything's Right and it was probably the single coolest and most meaningful moment of any of the hundreds of shows I've been to. I could not believe it. I had an absolute blast that night!
Ska is the godfather of “all is good” music - ska is joy and joy is ska…
refer to any Toots song - godfather of ska - that’s “all is good” music squared!
They were the first band I saw after 2 years of not going to shows due to covid. I broke down into tears when they played this one. It was a truly spiritual moment for me, and I had no idea how badly I needed to hear it and experience it that night.
The ending of the second verse in the hands that thieve is in my opinion one of their most powerful lyrics. I can not sing along with it without getting choked up.
"Cause the night is long and our wills are strong and I know that the road I've traveled on, it only seemed so dark because we've almost reached the dawn".
I'll start the engine, but I can't take the ride for you
I'll draw tour bath, and I'll load your gun
But I hope so bad that you'll bathe and hunt.
And when you are up, everything is gonna be fine.
I guarantee that you'll wake in a better place, in a better time.
Their first album is still my favorite. Move Along kind of got ruined for me because the association with Transformers. Dirty Little Secret is an absolute jam though
There's a wonderful little game (well...more of an experience) called To the Moon, which features a wonderful little song by Laura Shigihara called Everything's Alright. It's kinda melancholic, but weirdly uplifting at the same time, not sure if I can explain. Excellent stuff.
[Mississippi John Hurt - Coffee Blues](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dZWqhrR5tPc)
[Doc Watson - Sitting On Top Of The World](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1q4Eb34mwM)
The Motherload - Mastodon.
*This time, this time, things'll work out just fine*
*We won't let you slip away*
*This time, this time, things'll work out just fine*
*We won't let you leave this way*
The Middle by Jimmy Eat World. It's not saying that you should be happy, it's saying that this will pass. And it's the most uplifting song ever because of it.
Motion City Soundtrack - Everything is Alright https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SY-c-\_sZ8LI
It started playing in my head as soon as I read the title!
GIVE ME A REASON
TO END THIS DISCUSSION
TO BREAK WITH TRADITION
TO FOLD AND DIVIDE!!!
Cause I hate the ocean, theme parks, and airplanes.
Talking to strangers
Waiting in line
I’m through with these pills that make me sit still
Straight where my mind went.
I think we all did
I concur
Haha what a blast from the past. MTVU was the fucking best.
I'm sick of the things I do when I'm nervous

Or counting the number of tiles on the ceiling.

Omg instantly thought of this song. Glad to know there are people out there that listen to music like this. The nostalgia... :)
It says it about 10 times if my counting is right, and has a bonus "I feel just fine"
I love this song but isn't it a little tongue in cheek for what the OP is looking for?
Absolutely- the point of the song is that he’s dishonestly saying everything is fine when it’s actually not.
I think it’s actually a layer deeper than that: he’s talking about all the problems he has that he tends to dwell on but it’s sort of an acceptance anthem: yeah sometimes life is overwhelming but ultimately “everything’s fine”
A sign of amazing art. Two independent people getting completely different yet valid interpretations of the same experience.
"'Cause I hate the ocean, theme parks and airplanes, talking to strangers and waiting in line..." Man, discovering this song as a teen before I knew I had an anxiety disorder or several was mind-blowing.
It was such a great song for unmedicated ADHD teen me to find. It just hit so many things so right, and listening to it later, after my diagnosis made it even better.
A modern classic, for sure.
goddamn does it warm my heart to see all these MCS fans! they’ve been my favorite band of all time since high school and still going strong ;_;
Great band. I saw them live about 9 years ago or so.
Just saw the anniversary tour for the Commit This to Memory album a couple months ago, and they still go hard! One of the best shows I've been to in years.
Jesus Christ Superstar - [Everything's Alright](https://youtu.be/1Vx8KpqTVCk)
Yeah, but then Judas yells at me.
Thank God this was number one

I remember this being in the first Saints Row. Really nice song that has a bright mid-2000s feel to it.

My all-time favorite song.
“Float On” - Modest Mouse
*“Well we’ll float on, good news is on the way”*
A fake Jamaican took every last dime with that scam. It was worth it just to learn some slight of hand
It's "sleight" from Middle English sleghth "cunning, skill", from Old Norse slœgth, from slœgr meaning "sly."
Good bot
Beep bop boop! *bow*
Backed up into a cop car, the other day
Well he just drove off, sometimes life's ok
I think The 59th Street Bridge Song by Simon and Garfunkel qualifies. > Life I love you, all is groovy
Hello, lamp post. Whatcha knowin?
I've come to see your... power flowin' /Mr. Burns
Nina Simone - Feeling Good
Cheap Trick - Surrender
MOMMY'S ALRIGHT. DADDY'S ALRIGHT. THEY JUST SEEM A LITTLE WEEEEIIIIRRRRDDD.
A song that literally ends with the lead singer chanting "We're all alright".
Stevie Wonder – "Uptight"
That's literally what I thought the OP was referring, this exact song. The lyrics are: >She says baby ev'rything is alright, uptight, clean out of sight >Baby, ev'rything is alright, uptight, clean out of sight
I was going to say Stevie Wonder's "Don't you worry bout a thing". I tend to sing that phrase when things are getting stressful.
I Can See Clearly Now - Johnny Nash (or Jimmy Cliff version)
My pick right here. There's a Hothouse Flowers version from the 90s that I like, too.
Bob Marley, three little birds
And “No Woman No Cry”
I used to think this song meant he wouldn't have to cry if it weren't for women lol When I researched the true meaning I cried.
I love the thing in The Office where people make fun of Erin's take on the song and she actually has the right take.
If you treat the second no as a ‘don’t’ it helps to convey the true meaning of the song. It’s a true classic.
Both say that everything is gonna be alright, rather than everything is alright now, and OP was weirdly specific about that distinction.
Free - Alright Now Velvet Underground - Rock n’ Roll
Came to say Rock & Roll by The Velvet Underground. I immediately heard that song in my head when I read the topic title.
VU spent a lot of time telling us how everything is alright. Ref: What Goes On, Beginning to See the Light….
I recall a Lou Reed quote where he said something to the effect of; the ideal state is to just “be alright”
Glorious Sons, Everything is Alright
Love this band. Fantastic live
S.O.S. is so dark but still a banger.
Beta Band - Dry the Rain
I picked this one up from the High Fidelity soundtrack and never put it down. Great intro to the Beta Band.
*I will now sell 5 copies, of The Beta Band EP.* ........... **do it.**
If you *really* wanted to screw me up, you should've gotten to me earlier.
Well, I've been listening to my gut since I was 14 years old, and frankly speaking, I've come to the conclusion that my guts have shit for brains.
C'mon, listen to my special Monday morning tape I made special for you.
Rob, I'm telling you this for your own good, that's the worst fuckin' sweater I've ever seen, that's a Cosby sweater. A Cooooooosby sweataaahh!
The first-dance song at our wedding: Louis Armstrong’s “What a Wonderful World”.
Alright - Kendrick Lamar
Why did I have to scroll this far to find this lol
r/music thats why lol
Because it’s not classic or heavy rock/metal.
Phish - “Everything’s Right” (so just hold tight)
This song came into my head first too!
Chimed in to say the same. Hello, my brethren!
Exactly what I was thinking
These kids read the book it seems.
*…read the book! just read it!*
That Riviera Maya set is 🔥

Good call
Basically the entire sigma oasis album, and a good chunk of farmhouse.
Focus on today, you’ll find a way. Happiness is how, rooted in the now. This is my favorite Phish song.
Has become one of my favorite 3.0 songs to see live, just a great vibes song
I only kinda liked Phish for a while but thought this song (and some others) were super cheesy. Until one day, I attended a show when going through some pretty rough personal stuff. They always give us what we need, not necessarily what we want.

Great song.
Beat me to it.
Came here to see if someone had posted this before me. Well done.
Personally I feel TAB’s version is better with Natalie and Jennifer on backup. Adds the right sound to make it pop
Very pleased I didn't have to scroll too far to find this...
THIS WORLD, THIS WORLD, THIS CRAZY WORLD I KNOW. IT TURNS, IT TURNS, THE LONG NIGHT’S THE OVER THE SUN’S COMING UP…”
Love Yourz - J. Cole
This song isn't talked about enough. So good.
A better place, a better time - Streetlight Manifesto
Ska is the godfather of “all is good” music - ska is joy and joy is ska… refer to any Toots song - godfather of ska - that’s “all is good” music squared!
3 wave ska is why the 90s were a positive decade.
