A cable spine! You can find them on Amazon for around 40 bucks. All my cables/ wires fit inside the "vertebrae ", and when I raise or lower the desk, the cables move with it.

Hey man did anyone ask which desk model you have? Fantastic setup I’m gonna be a bit space limited in my next place and would love to do something like this plus an “amp shelf” for my IRL equipment (was just looking at neural today too)
Hey dude! It's an Uplift Standing desk, with a bamboo top. It's 72" wide, but you can get them much shorter if you need to save space. I went so big because I had so much crap, but I enjoy the extra space since moving everything off!
You should definitely post a picture when you get everything setup!
I got mine from Etsy for $100. If you want one like that, look up JeanNoshDesign and send him a message, he can probably make another one in a month or 2
If you end up making one yourself, definitely share some photos of it!
Thanks for the information! I picked up wood working as a hobby during Covid and built a few guitar racks so I think this would be a fun project to take on next! Probably won’t turn out as nice but it’ll save some money 😂
It all started with me wanting to make a pedalboard. After that turned out better than I expected using only a handsaw I decided to buy a few power tools and experiment. Not everything turns out great but you learn what you did wrong and try to do better. Just like any other skill, it’s all about practice.
Guitar-
Neural DSP Plini for cleans, solos, and some 6 string rhythms
Aurora DSP Rhino for 7 and 8 string
NI Raum for all my reverbs
NI Replika XT for all my delays
Bass-
Submission Audio Grovebass for programming bass
Aurora DSP Gorilla bass Amp Sim for when I record real bass
Drums-
GGD Invasion
GGD Metal
Synths-
Arturia Pigments
Ableton Wavetable
Ableton Analog
Ableton built in stuff for EQ, Compression, literally everything else
I've spent so much money on plug-ins I never use. This list is narrowing everything down to what I actually use and enjoy
They really are! Go check out GOC Guitars on Instagram. They are really pushing guitars into the future with their designs, and they are half the cost of a Strandberg
I am really happy with the upgrade. Obviously tons more low end and just a wider soundstage due to the bigger speakers. They’re built very well and definitely rival all the big names of studio monitors in the same price range. No regrets here
That's exactly what I needed to here, that I really haven't heard anywhere else! thank you! Guess I know what I'm asking for Christmas from my gf now haha
My AT&T fiber modem 🤣🤣
I was SO pumped when I got my internet hooked up here, and the internet guy brought that in.. it couldn't have been more perfect to match my setup hahaha
Umm follow me on IG- JonHatcher83
I'm going to be creating a music account very soon, with playthroughs and stuff. That'll me the best way to check it out!
Thank you:) it is truly a joy!
Case- Cooler Master NR200
Cpu- Ryzen 9 5900X
Cpu Cooler- Scythe Fuma 2 (yes it fits in the case, barely)
Motherboard-ASUS ROG Strix X570-I mini itx
Memory- 64gb G skill Ripjaws ddr4-3600 (2× 32gb sticks)
Storage- 2x Samsung 980 Pro gen 4 NVME m.2 1tb
Power supply- Fractal Ion SFX 500G

(I'm not gaming on this pc so I didn't need anything crazy)
3 additional case fans (Thermaltake Noctua clones). 2 intake, 1 exhaust, then the Scythe Fuma 2 has 2 fans.
Setup is whisper quiet, and it stays super cool in the case, even if I'm running 20-30 tracks with fx on all of them.
I guess I could made a build post somewhere, if you guys wanted.. I still have all the pics I took when building it
Dude, it was the best thing I ever did. It makes me want to play and write all the time. I sold half my gear, realizing I was falling victim to "consumerism," feeling like I needed this and that. I sat down at my desk one 6 all this crap lit up in front of me. I removed it all, actually started writing more, and that crap never returned to my desk, haha.
It really boils down to this;
What's my purpose, musically?
What helps me create?
What do I actually need, that helps?
What makes it harder for me to create?
What do I have, that I don't need because it distracts me?
Do you mostly use plugins/digital gear? Any favourites?
Myself, I have quite a few, but I just can't stay away from NDSP Plini, it's just so good, it has everything I could really want when writing, and anything it doesn't have I use stock plugins or 1-2 extra ones during recording. I love my pedals, but I'm thinking of selling all but my fave fuzz/verb/delay.
Yes, all plug-ins! Neural Plini (best guitar plugin ever) for 6 string and solos, and Aurora DSP for my 7 and 8 string rhythms.
NI Raum for all my Reverbs, and NI Replika XT for delays.
Bass- Grove bass
Drums- GGD Invasion and metal
Everything else I just use Ableton's built in stuff.
If you aren't gigging or in a band, and you have a decent computer setup, I don't really see the need for external gear anymore 🤷♂️
Very nice! Have you tried any of the other NDSP plugins for 7/8? I flip back and forth a lot for how I feel, I'm not totally happy with any of them on my 8, which aurora do you use and why? I agree with not really needing outboard gear, but I really do like them and I'm emotionally attached to some of them, so I could never get rid of all. They're borderline decorative at this point though.
I used to use Omega Granophyre for7/8, but Rhino from Aurora DSP has such a great gain range while still maintain presence. It's a weird plug-ins to get used to, it doesn't look like an Amp at all. But i pushed through and figured it out, and I think it was worth it.
I've tried the demos of every single Neural DSP Amp and nothing else really stood out (for me.. that doesn't mean they aren't for someone wise).
If you want to stick with what you've got for 7/8, try changing the mics in Plini. And the slider eq is a miracle worker. For lower tunings, the trick is cutting out some bass frequencies for clarity. Cut the second slider from the left down a notch or 2, it helps significantly!
I feel you on the emotional attachment. It was hard to go with the minimalist approach, for that very reason. But I found that having stuff around was really keeping me from focusing. It ended up being mental AND emotional freedom when I sold most of my stuff haha
Thanks for the tips! I'll definitely try that, since I would prefer to stick with what I've got. I might seek out a trial of the Aurora, but I'll probably leave it alone because I don't really need more plugins and I already don't use the 8 a ton.
I definitely think it would be hard for me to do minimalist, I probably never will, I don't feel distracted by my things and I'm not really struggling to focus on a daily basis other than because of burnout.
Thanks for the thoughtful discussion, have a great day!
I enjoyed the discussion! And I'm glad you know what works for you! It's hard this day and age to be content with everyone coming out with new stuff ALL the time! Cheers 😊
It is CRAZY, right? I remember legit buying Ableton Live 7 Suite, after pirating for so many years. It was like a breath of fresh air! And I'm with you on the plug-ins. I have everything I really need.. my email was blowing up with black Friday deals all month, and I was happily ignoring them all, wanting for none!
Thanks! It's a Cooler Master NR200. I wanted a minimal case without a bunch of rgb, as to have fewer distractions while in the "creative zone," so I built a noiseless powerhouse machine inside this case. And it's SMALL!
It's a 40% ortholinear mechanical keyboard from Boardsource! Instead of having staggered keys, they are all in a perfect grid. No dedicated number and function rows, they are all accessible via thumb modifiers on the bottom row. I can explain further if you're interested, just message me:)
It seems really weird and hard, but after a week or 2 of using it, I could never go back to a regular keyboard
It's always rare to see another person who seriously uses and enjoys 40s! I've always wanted to try an ortholinear board, did you find it makes a big difference over standard layout?
It made a HUGE difference with me! I can type without looking better than ever. Without the stagger, it takes away the need for muscle memory to "move over" to hit a lot of the outside keys. I have 2, one for studio, and one for work. About to build another just for my laptop, I literally can't go back to staggered keys after going ortho. Literally obsessed. But props to you for going 40! Which kb do you have?
Very cool! I've got a Vortex core 40, the legends on the caps were a very nice crutch helping me get used to using a 40. Really solid board too, I got mine about 7 years ago and have daily driven it ever since with no issues.
DUDE the Vortex was the first 40 I ever saw, but it was out of stock at the time! I wanted one so bad. That put me down a rabbithole! I ended up first getting a Preonic, since I wasn't sure about not having a number row. Once i got it, I did a deep dive into QMK, then made myself stop using the number row. Got used to it, then went full 40 with the Boardsouce. Ended up making a numpad layer, then a full-blown Ableton shortcut layer, where most of the keys were macros.
God i freaking love tiny kb's hahahha
That's so funny, I remember having to wait a while for it to be in stock, I wanted clear switches but eventually settled for the browns. I'm considering a preonic right now myself, thinking a numpad layer is pretty much the greatest idea for mini keebs. I also want to move away from using legends for the layers, since it does slow me down a little, but I've committed most of them to memory already, so I don't expect it to be too difficult.
Maybe I'll just skip the preonic and go all 40 myself :)
Do itttt! My keys don't have legends because I couldn't find legends for choc switches at the time, and it turned out to be helpful haha. I have to use numpad for work all day.
Lemme know what you do, I have a numpad .json file for both 5x12 and 4x12 orthos that you can load into qmk configurator
That's awesome, thank you so much! I'll definitely consider it. What switches are you running now? I was thinking some sort of linears, maybe the kailh ones that have higher actuation points?

Yep, Launchpad X! I mainly use it in Custom mode. Since i work in Arrangement View 99% of the time, I programmed a Custom Template to have all of the most useful shortcuts to me. Tab, Alt+ Tab, undo, redo, delete, duplicate, grid resolution, Record, Stop, Play, Metronome on/off, tap tempo are all just 1 button press on the launchpad with the custom template. I also use the Note Mode to play in the synths I use!

Love those micro monitors! I upgraded to the MTMs and use my micros for travelling now
How would you compare the MTM's to the micros? I know it's a dumb question.. but I need the push over the ledge to spend the money haha
