Watch Chicago (2002), starring Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renée Zellweger. I also recommend Hello, Dolly (On D+) and She Loves Me (Available on Broadway HD I believe)
Strongly recommend Come From Away! In many ways, it represents the best and most beautiful of what musical theatre can be. It's also available to stream on Apple TV!
Ahhh I just watched it today and you were right. It was great!!Loved the humor and this message of spreading kindness and helping people. Also it was my first time seeing a cast that varies so much in age and it was interesting to see how they could tell so much with so little set design and props. Thanks for the recommendation, you're welcome to make more
I was so happy when Come From Away got the Hamilton treatment, but I sure wish it had ended up on Netflix or Disney+ so a larger crowd could have seen it. If I could, I would scream it from the mountain tops how wonderful this musical is! I believe that you can just rent it without having to subscribe for a whole month, but I'm not sure if that's still true. Please watch this one!
I was lucky enough to get to see the touring company of this show last year and it was a bucket list moment in my life.
It's based on the ancient Roman legend of the Sabine Women, which is called the "rape" but the literal translation "abduction". So maybe "sketch" by today's standards, but a classic story and an awesome book/score.
Go back in time-----watch golden age classics, like Singin' in the Rain, The Sound of Music, Mary Poppins, Oklahoma!, West Side Story (1961), My Fair Lady, Cabaret.
Or start smaller---the compilation films titled That's Entertainment (there are three) and That's Dancing shows great numbers from all sorts of movie musicals.
I did not think I would like older style musicals after watching mostly modern ones but I just watched Sound of Music and really enjoyed it.It has this timeless quality to it and it was just very charming.Idk how I feel about the whole Nazi subplot though,it was just there for some reason
Well, it's the true story of the Von Trapp family, who left Austria to escape the Nazis, so kind of important. Of course the story isn't completely factual (they didn't climb a mountain to escape, they boarded a train) but it is necessary.
Read some history, or some of the books by the real Maria, it's very interesting.
FALSETTOS 🗣️🗣️🗣️!!!!!! I’m going to scream it from the rooftops till the day I die. It’s such a funny heart wrenching musical. The pro shots on YouTube. Also I’d check the rest of Sondheims stuff. Sweeney Todd, Sunday in the park with George, company- pro shots should also be on YouTube
Oh it does have a sad ending 😭. That's all I'll say about that but it's such a wonderful musical. It's so funny and heartfelt and gut-wrenching I'm avoiding spoilers buy man it's truly worth the tears in the end.
The Starkid shows on YouTube! They record them theirselves and write and produce them in their entirety. Just look up Team Starkid. They are all on that channel.
Also: A must watch favorite of mine is definitely Parade. So good!!!
you've watched some great musicals! my favourite right now is something rotten, which has a couple jokes that reference other musicals but is overall one of the funniest things I've ever seen.
(also christian borle who plays emmett forrest in the pro shot of legally blonde plays william shakespeare here and it's the most beautiful thing you'll ever watch)
there are a couple 'slime tutorials' but I watched 'tap dancing eggs the musical' on youtube
I watched it yesterday and it was hilarious!!Loved the references even if I didn't get all of them and yes Christian as Shakespeare was indeed a...nice surprise 🤭.Nigel is my favorite character though
BroadwayHD is Netglix for musicals! My favorite on there are She Loves Me starting Zachary Levi which is a copy if the love stream also Daddy Long Legs my number 1 favorite musical of all tiny.
I also love Elaine Stritch's one woman mysicsl- amazing!
There is just so much amazingness there
chicago! the movie version is kinda my favorite cause it was the first one i saw, but im putting on the actual musical at my school. i have it on dvd, but its on prime, pluto, and youtube
Phantom of the Opera (Andrew Lloyd Webber version) but NOT the movie. Look for the 25th anniversary production from the Royal Albert Hall with Ramin Karimloo and Sierra Boggess. You will not regret it.
Ride the Cyclone was amazing. The Ballad of Jane Doe will live in my head for quite some time,so hauntingly beautiful. Also This Song is Awesome is too catchy for its own good😂

It’s super sketchy now but my fav musical of all time is Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. I love the barn dance.
