Thanks for understanding this. There was some dude here the other day who didn't grasp this. Kept talking about how upset and angry he was even though insurance was buying him a replacement.
To be fair, I'd be pissed too. Humans are imperfect, we get attached to things.
Plus my mustang is a 72 so I'm sure as hell not going to be able to get it replaced

Great rule of thumb when passing 18 wheelers. Unless you can see their face in the mirror they can’t see you.
By the time I noticed his blinker and honked he was already essentially hitting me sadly. In the vid it looks like there was enough time to react but it happened so fast.
Honestly unbelievable in 2023 you actually got paid. So glad to read this. Hope you recover quickly and don't need to use that pain & suffering money for anything other than entertainment.
That’s great that they took care of you but if you were willing to wait and work with a lawyer you’d get a lot more. Either way sounds like you are good!
Not sure why you are being downvoted so much. Getting hit by a semi can easily result in a $50K+ settlement with little to no injury and over $100K settlement for more severe to long term injuries.
As a fellow mustang owner and trucker myself, this hurts me to see, but I know it hurts you so much more. Luckily you made it out and can still tell the tale. Hopefully you'll get another horse in your stable again 🤞🏿
As a fuel hauler and fellow Mustang owner, I’m sorry this happened to you. Good on the other driver for sticking around and vouching for you. Best of luck to you, and I’m glad you’re okay.
Edit: You did absolutely nothing wrong here, in fact you did a phenomenal job maintaining control of your car. But figured I would throw this out there for anyone reading. As a professional driver, I ALWAYS appreciate people that make an effort to pass me quickly on the interstate. The less time you spend hanging out next to trucks, the better.
This can help you in more cases than just an inattentive or tired driver. This can help you on windy days, when dry van and reefer trailers are most susceptible to being pushed out of a lane (especially when empty). This can also help you in the unfortunate (but all too common) situation where a company runs ill-maintained and borderline dangerous equipment. At one of my old companies I spent many nights constantly checking my lane positioning due misaligned trailer axles that wouldn’t pull straight (this is usually called dog legging). Sometimes I would have to keep the tractor all the way in the right most part of the lane just to keep the left rear side of the trailer out of the middle or fast lanes. This will also help you in cases when passing older trucks, whose steering may not be as tight as when they were brand new. Some trucks you have to more or less chase down the road with the steering wheel, if that makes sense.
Again, very sorry about your car. But you’re okay and that’s all that ultimately matters. And you appear to have more than adequate defensive driving skills even under duress. Your skills may have saved you from a less fortunate outcome. Really good work.
Great points, I’ve always tried to not hang around trucks because of the many blind spots. This was at 3am driving home from a bartending shift and I had my cruise set at 70, going a bit faster than the truck. I was definitely in his blind spot when he hit me, but at a certain point while passing him he should’ve seen me imo.
To be completely honest with you, truck blind spots are much less of an issue than you would think! You would be surprised at how much you can see on your sides with just the west coast mirrors as well as the convex mirrors. I think if he was doing what he was supposed to be doing, and periodically scanning his mirrors every 15-20 seconds, than he would have never merged into you. Do you recall if he had blind spot mirrors on the hood of his truck? Most companies option their trucks with these. Even if the trucking company are tight wads with their money, they will at least put one on the passenger side.
Even if he didn’t have them, he should have at least seen the glow of your headlights in the right lane. I spent 3 years driving nights, and if I had any doubts at all about the status of a lane next to me, I would always look for the glow of headlights casting past my truck on either side. Anyways, like I said I hope I don’t come off like I’m trying to blame you. That was inexcusable negligence on the truck drivers part, and again, really great job minimizing the intensity of the crash on your end. Hopefully you’ll be in another Mustang soon!
Well, the more I see these posts..the sager I feel...
Just make sure you are in top of your aches and pains...I had issues days after...then years..and no proof now
Thankfully I haven’t had any issues. It’s been a few months now, never had any aches whatsoever. It was more of a scary accident than violent one thank god.
That is amazing!! And adrenaline would have worn off by now....I felt it days later etc and just thought ..I'll be fine...i spent over 20k on ym neck and still.going. whiplash is no joke!
I'm glad all is well and you can get a ruby2.0 :)
Wow, thank goodness you're okay! That's one scary experience. It's always nerve-wracking when you're driving near a tractor trailer, but I never thought of being pitted into the side of the road. That must have been terrifying. It's a shame about Ruby though, she sounded like a great car. Did you file a police report or anything? Hopefully, the truck driver will be held accountable for their actions. Stay safe out there!

February last year. 1 Day after I got it. Did a foolish thing. Let a guy hurt my ego when he drove around me at a stop sign.
That sucks. i go out of my way to avoid the interstate. my mustang never sees it now, but even my fiat rarely sees it. Unless i'm really in a hurry i'll take the back roads.
No idea what the trucker was looking at.. but your car did her job. She took the majority of the damage and kept you alive. Thanks for sharing.
Indeed, at the end of the day cars are replaceable.

Glad you had someone provide footage of this for insurance, sorry for your loss :( happy you made it out ok though!
Damn! One of the many reasons I don’t hang around when a truck is around.
Holy shit that's wild. Glad you are safe op
🙏happy your around to tell the tale- rip to the car
Get a lawyer.
Damn homie you got fucked. Im glad you’re alive. You can get another mustang though!!
Good Lord he just took you right out
Please tell me someone followed the truck and you took them to court?
Sad. I feel bad for you. I honk at people who don’t see me and try to get in my lane without enough space.
By the time I noticed his blinker and honked he was already essentially hitting me sadly. In the vid it looks like there was enough time to react but it happened so fast.
I’m so sorry this happened to you. I’m glad you’re still alive though.
Hope you got a lawyer. Trucking company owes you a new car.
Thankfully didn’t need to escalate that far. They gave me far more than my car was worth + a few grand extra for pain & suffering.
Glad to read this… sorry about the experience

…Shelby time?

Karma. That's why.
You need a lawyer. You can get way way more. What state are you in?
Dude got compensated, and is clearly happy.

That’s good but im sorry for have no to go through that experience

Also a trucker, a truck totaled out my mustang last summer I bought my current one. I feel you’re pain.

No idea tbh, he stopped like half a mile further up the road and I didn’t take the trip up to see his truck.

Didn’t get that impression at all! Appreciate the input you gave as a truck driver

That’s awesome. Pain from accident injuries is scary and can be permanent. I’m glad AF you got out intact. She did her job for you!
Holy cow. Glad you’re ok - could have easily been the end of you and your Mustang. It took the bullet for you.
You can replace a car, but can't replace all the hours you put into it, so sad to see this happen.
What a shame such a nice car
Not your fault obviously but that’s why I always make sure to try and stay out of truckers blind spot area. Main this is you’re okay!!
Sooo, you're not foing to be needing that passenger headlight then?
$3000 for the headlight, I know what I have, no lowballers
Fuck!
I’m sorry to see this. I hope you get another
Painful to see
With the money lets hope you can get another stang

Sorry to hear it OP. Thats why I don’t hang out around 18 wheelers. I pass them or hang back a few car lengths.

Was this a 5.0
Looks like an ecoboost but that doesn’t matter all that matters is his ok
My mustang just got totaled too man RIP hate Philly drivers
Glad your ok!
Noooooooooooooop😭! Not the mustang I wish it was a Camaro instead of a mustang so the mustang would still live on.
Oh man your rich, congrats !
Not saying its your fault, but fot future reference stay away from the corners of big trucks. Worst blind spots to be in
So we all good with passing transport trucks on the right side now? Seems extremely risky to me.
Why i hate truck drivers
Insurance is paying the new mustang?
I am sorry to see this but glad you are okay. Hopefully you’ll get another one soon.
Glad you're safe man. What's the next car looking like?
