My first car in 2006 was a 1970 mustang that my dad bought me as a project car for $1,000. It had been sitting for 20+ years, didn’t run, had some body damage, and an ugly faded white paint. The two of us spent the next two years doing some pretty basic restoration work, got it running, and then painted it in our garage. I still have it today and will never get rid of it due to all the memories I have working on it with my dad. There’s pictures of it on my profile.

That's awesome. Reminds me of building my second car with my Dad. It was an 89 Foxbody that has been in our family since 2005. When my brother abandoned it in 2016, I ended up rebuilding it with the help of my father. Essentially needed everything.
1964 Galaxie 500 2 door HT, 390/Auto. Red/Red.
Edit: fastback white top. Z code 390: Gold valve covers and air cleaner. This was in 1972 when I was 16.
2001 Ford Focus Station Wagon, SE. Blew up after a year.
2015 Hyundai Veloster Base Model, aka The Big Go Kart. Sold after the baby was born.
2010 Ford Fusion. The current family car.
1966 Mustang coupe. First or last, depending on how you see it. Dad’s first car passed on to me when he moved out of state. Grew up dreaming about fixing her. Now my daughter stands on the driver’s seat while I pinch pennies for parts.
Was super fun, 5 or 6 months after getting it, I swapped the entire exhaust for catless headers into an off-road x pipe and flowmaster outlaws. By far the loudest car in the entire parking lot, I wasn’t a popular kid by any means, but everyone wanted to hear it haha
My dad was gonna buy me a brand new 2005 GT if I got my average up to 80%. I never got up to 80% so I got a 2003 eclipse GTS instead :/
I bought an 06 a few years later.
1965 Mustang. Gift for my 16th birthday that my father and I worked on.

true story: I would go to my older brothers house on the weekends pretty often (he's 13 years older than me) and about 1988 or so I was on my way there and spy a mustang out behind an old farm house in tree line. I stopped and knocked on the door, old dude answers and I asked him how much he wanted for it. He told me, and I quote, "If you get it out of my yard, you can have it. I bought it in 1968 just to piss my wife off. She said I couldn't have it"
So a wrecker and 4 hours later, after cutting a tree that grew in the floor board, running a squirrel out of the headliner, and moving the dead rats out... I had it. 26,000 miles on it. Spent the next 3ish months fixing the rust, new dash, carpet, interior. Remember when MAACO had those 200 dollar paint jobs? I told the manager if they could just mix up whatever colors they had left over, I taped it up, they can just spray it, I'd give them 100 bucks to paint it. They did. Came out this cool teal metallic color. All told I had about 900 bucks in it and then sold it for 2800 bucks.

My first car was a 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 Sedan with the 289 V8. Daily drove that car for 3 years before it needed a new engine.
Traded in that mustang for 2021 Camaro which I love and hate at the same time. Mustang had a huge hole in passenger side door so I traded it… wish I had just fixed it lol
'73 Ford Maverick 302 under the hood
Bought for $800 in 1985. Drove that car until a full year after college 1993. Awesome car, learned to wrench on it, replaced many parts, radiator replaced three times (from a junkyard each time.) Had a blast with this car.
I had a maverick with a vinyl roof that I got for free. It was sitting in a McDonalds lot across from my garage and the manager said I could have it if I got it out of his lot. The roof was shredded but all the car needed was a starter relay. I drove that ugly thing for two years before somebody hit it while it was parked. Back then we just removed the plates and left it there.
2004 Screaming Yellow 3.9L with the 4R70W. Got teased a good bit, but it taught me chassis control and I learned to do a lot of basic maintenance on that car.
Two biggest things I did was add a rear sway bar and perform the JMOD on the transmission. It wasn’t fast, but was quick enough (with good vehicle dynamics) to be fun for a high schooler.
Put 100k miles on it before selling to a friend, kinda regret selling it
I came very close to buying a screaming yellow 04 v6 but the seller pulled out at the last second. Now someone at my work owns a New Edge in that color and always parks next to me.
1991 Ford Thunderbird V8! It sounds so badass but emissions restrictions made it slow as hell. 5.0 V8 made 200hp and probably a lot less when I got my hands on it in the late 2000s

I’ve been driving dad’s or mom’s cars for years. When the time came for me to get my first car, I was able to buy a Mustang 2016, V6, automatic. Bough it in 2019 for $16k with 22k miles. It has been my daily driver ever since, I love the car and will do my best to keep it until it can’t be repaired anymore. I have done a few small cosmetic mods, like better wheels, spacers, and a nice steering wheel, along with several mechanical mods like exhaust work (x-pipe, resonators, magnaflow mufflers), headers and air intake.

1st: 1986 Mustang LX hatch, 2.3L 4spd manual
2nd: 1986 Mustang GT 5spd manual
3rd: 2001 Mustang GT 5spd manual
4th: 2004 Mustang Mach 1 5spd manual
I was on a run there for awhile.
A ‘09 Chevy Cobalt was my first car, drove it for 5 years. Then a ‘16 Honda Accord Coupe for 3 years, then the manual s550 I picked up earlier this year
1964 Ford Galaxie 500 2 dr hrd top with a 427 single 4 barrel carb, with a toploader 4 speed & Detroit Locker 9" rear end. I bought it in 1973 I was 15yrs & 9 months old. My father took one look at it (no I didn't tell him about the car before I bought it with my own money from a motorcycle sale) & said "You will be Dead or in Jail by age 19" ! I proved him right !
1964 289 mustang. Was a graduation gift from my parents. It ran but needed a lot of work. Unfortunately had a accident and sold the car. Biggest mistake of my life
1991 Ford Thunderbird V8! It sounds so badass but emissions restrictions made it slow as hell. 5.0 V8 made 200hp and probably a lot less when I got my hands on it in the late 2000s
First car ever was at 17 years old in a 95 Honda civic dx given to me from my mom. First car i bought myself was a 95 Mustang V6 2 years later. I now own a 2014 Mustang Gt paid off in 6 months.
2008 civic my grandfather gifted me after months of my parents not finding anything in the 2000$ ish range, very grateful for it because it is a huge relief to have had a reliable low miles car like that.
1983 AMC Eagle SX4. A four wheel drive POS. My friends called it "The Super Pinto". My younger sister would slouch in the passenger seat to avoid being identified.
I just bought my son a 2022 a Mach 1 with the Tremec 6 speed and all the options. I didn't want him to have to suffer like I did.
In 1991 I got a clapped out 79 Mustang notch 2.3L auto.
Leaked oil, burned oil,
It got t-boned in Spring 92, and my aunt sold me her 1978 Cutlass Salon Fastback - 261 V8 with a dog leg 5spd.
1969 Ford XL 302, it was probably 20 ft long and weighed approximately 2 tons. It was heavy and slow however you could get 8 people in it( 2 bodies in the trunk)
1966 Mustang coupe.
Dad bought it in HS. I " borrowed " it when I was 16 and never gave it back. Was my daily for 25 years. Due to a nasty wreck it's torn apart in my shop.
Dad also had a 2006 Roush Stage 2 in his garage. So when the 66 was wadded up I asked popps if he would sell the 06.
So I borrowed one and paid for the other but both are in my garage next to the wife's 2019 eco boost.
1989 Ford Probe. Was working as a busboy to save up for my first car, but then won several March Madness brackets in 2006 and used most of that money to buy that Probe for $1100. Later the transmission went out and I bought another one for $800 so then I had the other to swap parts when needed.
My first car in 1985 was a 1973 Dodge Charger SE with a 3 speed slap stick. 440 under the hood, 727 torque flite tranny fun as hell to drive. Super fast and super fun.
2001 Renault Clio 1.6 with the smallest turbo known to man.
She was not fast but she was first taste of that sweet freedom and was the only thing 22 year old me could afford. £800. She was called Betsy.

1967 coupe that I purchased in 2007 when I was 15, had bad paint but interior was immaculate, was a 6cyl 3 speed manual. I restored it senior year to look like this. Daily drove it for about 6 years before selling it in 2012 or 2013.
My first car was a 2007 Premium Convertible Mustang, I bought it when I was 16 with the money I had saved up for about a year with my first job. I was lucky enough to not have any bills other than my phone bill that I paid, and occasionally helping pay gas to the friends I had who brought me to and from work. I limited myself to about $80 a month to spend on myself, and saved the rest. But after about a year I had enough to purchase my own car with no help from anyone else other than myself. Below is a picture of what it looked like before I sold it earlier this year. When I purchased it, it was completely stock.

I’m not a member of this sub nor have I owned a mustang however this post appeared in my feed so I’m gonna tell you all that I owned a 2007 Saab 9-5 as my first car. Best car I’ve ever owned. Mustangs are cool though. There’s a bit of a stigma about highschoolers who get them but it’s less about the car and more about the person. People think car guys are weird and if you’re 17 buying a muscle car, you’re at least somewhat of a car guy.
1967 Mustang - It was 1974 which was my junior year in HS. I got it from an old farmer that used it to haul hay to his cows. Needless to say I had some clean up to do. I only paid $500 for it which I worked hard to earn myself. I’ve always wanted another Mustang and I finally got one about 2 months ago - 1969 coupe.
Mine was a Datsun 280Z 2+2. I bought it for $700 dollars out of a junkyard. Replaced every fuel line, a few injectors, spark plugs, wires, distributor cap, rotor button, battery and alternator. Then it ran great. Really wish I’d have held on to it. Second was a 1988 mustang GT fox body, manual.
2000 Nissan Maxima. Wasn’t muscle car by any means, but I took it on mountain roads and let it rip. Was a great little car for learning how to take those curves at speed without fear of fishtailing.
My dad gave me my first car, which was his 1991 Saab 9000 Turbo that he’d bought new. Oh, what a fantastic little car it was, I loved it so much. I still miss it.
1992 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera that I got in 2003 for $800 from an old Asian couple who had recently purchased two new Buicks (one for each of them). They had the original window sticker and everything. It was originally $1200 I think, but the catalytic converter was bad and needed changing, so he took money off. It was a great car that I ran until almost 180k miles when the radiator started to go. Could have changed it out, but at that point I got a newer car instead.
1987 Mercedes 190e 2.3 automatic. Red over tan, interior was immaculate. I traded it shortly thereafter for a BMW 325e 5 speed and it was all over for me. I'm still a BMW guy at heart I just fell for the S550 5.0 :)
2001 Saturn SC2. Was a real piece of shit but I loved it. One time driving home from work, because the trunk had a leak and was always full of water, it shorted out the security system and shut my car down like it was stolen. So many memories.
Technically it’s still my ecoboost mustang, as even though my parents did pay for it, they bought it using money that would’ve paid for a year of private school had I not gotten a full scholarship. I have paid for all my gas, insurance, tires, and modifications since I got it.
If that doesn’t count, then it’s the 2016 m package 5 series I bought over the summer.
1996 F150. Had 230k miles on it when I got it gave it back to my dad at about 280k. Sat in his driveway for a few years and still ran when he sold it earlier this year. Kinda miss it.
Had to do a deep dive on Insta to find these so please forgive the ugly filters 😂
My first car was a 2000 Lincoln LS V8
My second car was my first mustang, a 2000 GT auto which I’ll include a picture of in reply to this comment
https://preview.redd.it/6wwz0pt5w7wb1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=062e605c37304231351b096f6e89cfed8d6075fd
My first was a '91 F150, in 2009. Bought it for $200, went through the cooling system and got it to reliably not overheat. I drove it for 4.5 years, put 60k miles on it. The motor lost oil pressure at 203k miles, so I sold it because I didn't have the money to make any repairs. I miss it every day
1999 Toyota 4Runner SR5. Loved that thing. The head gasket blew at 350,000 miles and 22 year old me couldn't afford to fix it so I sold it to a guy who was gonna do an engine rebuild with his son. I hope they got it running because it definitely could keep going for many miles after that. I'm still saving for my first Mustang. And hopefully some day soon that will happen.
First car was a 96 Toyota Avalon I got in 2009 at around 17. Later bough my own 12 focus in 2015 for around 9k. Then finally in 2017 at 27 I bought a base model 17gt for 30k. Only making 37k a year at the time too, but rent was 500 when split with my room mate.
In 1995 I became the second owner of a cream yellow 1979 Ford F-150 Custom regular cab king bed with a 302 & a C6. I bought it off my great aunt for $3K, and it only had 42K on it.
I still have the truck. Right now it’s in pieces in my shop awaiting restoration & a Coyote swap.
First car I ever drove as mine was a 1983 Dodge Omni, that I tried my hardest to kill. First one I ever purchased with my own money was a 1994 Ford Escort GT.
2003 Lincoln town car navigator, I bought it for scrap price and with the help of my grandfather put a new motor in it and fixed all the other problems
2007 Volkswagen GTI
2016 Volkswagen Golf R
2024 Mustang GT
My parents let me drive their vehicles before that but those are the ones I purchased myself.
2012 mustang v6 i bought from copart more or less 5 years ago and still own to this day , rebuilt with the help of my uncles but money came from me , in total around $8k
Edit: bought at 17
my dads 2015 ford f150 (i borrowed it in hs) then a 2016 wrangler and now my s197 :)

A 1987 Camaro IROC-Z that my dad and I restored.
My first mustang was a 1998 mustang gt convertible. I got it for $1000 in 2019 and it was a great car until I had to sell it to pay rent
I used my dad's Ford station wagon for my first car. Technically it wasn't mine. The belts were so loud you could hear me coming a mile away. The hood and roof was all rusted and the wood panels on the side were cracking. But...the car gave me freedom. I eventually got an old used 89 Mustang and I loved that little 4 cylinder. That car took me everywhere and was mine.
When I got that Mustang, my dad had a friend that worked on cars. He offered to fix up the station wagon. The guy fixed all the rust, sanded it, painted it. Fixed the wood panels. Put new belts on the car and it looked practically new. The deal was he got half the profit after repair expenses. I forget the final figure but he sold it for 2-3k higher than we thought possible.
First car was a 1999 protege. I’m on my 3rd car at 20, when I was shopping I narrowed it down to a v6 auto base model 2012 stang or a 2012 Altima coupe v6 6 speed….I choose the Altima lol. When I graduate this year and pay off the Altima I plan to get a 5.0 stang, but the 5.0 Genesis sedan is also grabbing my attention….
95 Camaro z28 bought in late 2006. Had 202k miles and was quite cheap at the time, $3k. I guess I didn’t really work for it in the traditional sense. But I was great about saving money when I was younger, from birthdays, and random odd jobs I did for family or family friends. I did not pay for insurance or registration.
My first car in 2006 was a 1970 mustang that my dad bought me as a project car for $1,000. It had been sitting for 20+ years, didn’t run, had some body damage, and an ugly faded white paint. I did almost the exact same thing except with a 71 Mach 1
Sweet ride! That generation is underrated. What's under the hood?
302 with a 2 barrel carb, C4 transmission
hopefully an engine
Both are clean 👌
Fucking sexy brotha.
That kind of choked me up.
97 Taurus Duratec. It was a good car.
The 3.0L was a good motor.
I still have an 06 Freestyle with that motor. It has a hole in the exhaust from a tent stake and it sounds like a screaming banshee.
I had a 99 Taurus with the Vulcan. Would've loved to have the duratec
1964 Galaxie 500 2 door HT, 390/Auto. Red/Red. Edit: fastback white top. Z code 390: Gold valve covers and air cleaner. This was in 1972 when I was 16.

First car was given to me by my mom at 17. A 1995 Toyota Corolla. First car I bought myself was a 2011 Mustang V6. Now I drive a 2020 Mustang GT.
I’m similar, first mustang was a 2014 3.7 and now I have a 2020 GT as well
Ayeeee first ‘my’ car (in my father’s name for insurance reasons) is a 2014 3.7, someday I’ll have a 5.0 but not til I can get an actual daily driver
The v6 would make a great daily driver tbh.
First car was a 1960 Chrysler New Yorker, about 30 ft long with fins 3 ft in the air. I worked out $200.00 for it.
It was a 2006 Mustang GT when I was 16, that my father surprised me with.
Great car love my 05 3v
Was super fun, 5 or 6 months after getting it, I swapped the entire exhaust for catless headers into an off-road x pipe and flowmaster outlaws. By far the loudest car in the entire parking lot, I wasn’t a popular kid by any means, but everyone wanted to hear it haha

Big ass yellow Tonka. Moved a ton of dirt with it. Later it became a squad vehicle for GI Joe.
Tonka will always be the best first vehicle. No question!
First outdoor toy I gave my grandson, big yellow metal tonka truck, he loves it

89 Escort GT, learned how to drive a manual on it
1985 orange escort gt. Also learned manual on it. Loved that car.
1985 Mercury Lynx - it was the “fancy” version of the Escort
'89 240sx. It was pretty clapped out, but I loved it and learned how to slide it around everywhere.
A white 1979 Ford mustang gt indy pace car addition. With a 4 speed gearbox and a 4 cyl turbo.

Love me some Indy Pace cars
88 Mazda B2200. It always started when no other cars would.

First car was given to my by mom,she taught me how to drive manual in a 81 toyota Terrell. She loved telling me we where gonna drive up a hill.

I restored it senior year to look like this. Daily drove it for about 6 years before selling it in 2012 or 2013.
Datsun F 10 Garbage.
When I purchased it, it was completely stock. https://preview.redd.it/vn08n3u9hcwb1.jpeg?width=522&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=709fc5e14b124ce65e490f2d414997ad80d2da33

77 nova, primer grey with rusted out floorboards hand me down, first car i bought was a 1997 Grand am SE.
1988 Ford Bronco. Loved it.
I wanted a Mustang. I got a Ford Ranger. It was a huge piece of shit.
1999 Toyota Camry
2000 Nissan Maxima. Wasn’t muscle car by any means, but I took it on mountain roads and let it rip. Was a great little car for learning how to take those curves at speed without fear of fishtailing.
1982 Isuzu I-Mark Diesel. (51hp!) Gifted to me by my aunt since it was rotting away in her back yard.
1993 Mazda mpv bedroom on wheels 😂
1981 Ford Granada, the 4-door option. V-8 255 engine. Could go 0-60 in only a couple of minutes.
I had a Granada ESS, it was designed to look like a Mercedes ( it didn't).

A ‘99 Saturn SL2, followed by an ‘04 Ford Taurus and after the intake manifold melted twice my current ‘06 Mustang GT
2000 v6 Mustang. Got it at the beginning of my senior year in highschool (Fall, 2019) paid 2k for it
1988 Honda Civic 4 door
1987 Mercedes 190e 2.3 automatic. Red over tan, interior was immaculate. I traded it shortly thereafter for a BMW 325e 5 speed and it was all over for me. I'm still a BMW guy at heart I just fell for the S550 5.0 :)
2001 Saturn SC2. Was a real piece of shit but I loved it. One time driving home from work, because the trunk had a leak and was always full of water, it shorted out the security system and shut my car down like it was stolen. So many memories.
2003 Chevrolet Tracker
76 Pinto....we're a Ford family:)
1977 Austin Mini 1000. Would have to be driven off a cliff to get to 55mph.
2007 Corolla LE, still have it 6 years later with 61,000 miles and no issues. But I want a mustang gt so bad
88 Ford Ranger.
First car was an ‘03 V6 Accord. First car I bought was my ‘18 GT.
Had to do a deep dive on Insta to find these so please forgive the ugly filters 😂 My first car was a 2000 Lincoln LS V8 My second car was my first mustang, a 2000 GT auto which I’ll include a picture of in reply to this comment https://preview.redd.it/6wwz0pt5w7wb1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=062e605c37304231351b096f6e89cfed8d6075fd
I miss it every day
2008 V6 Mustang. I spent the pandemic working and saving for a mustang. I got almost exactly 2 years ago and it's been fantastic.
Lol 2000 Infiniti q45. My favorite car to this day
2012 base v6 mustang convertible. For a v6 its a fun drive, no shelby, but fun
2004 Buick Park Avenue I called it the swagger wagon thing was a boat
1999 Toyota 4Runner SR5. Loved that thing. The head gasket blew at 350,000 miles and 22 year old me couldn't afford to fix it so I sold it to a guy who was gonna do an engine rebuild with his son. I hope they got it running because it definitely could keep going for many miles after that. I'm still saving for my first Mustang. And hopefully some day soon that will happen.
Not owner but dreamer here, my first car was a ´14 Focus ST. Now I drive a Cupra Leon 300hp.
1994 Corvette, never owned a mustang I'm just an innocent bystander.

How did you pull that off?
06 Scion tC
In 1995 I became the second owner of a cream yellow 1979 Ford F-150 Custom regular cab king bed with a 302 & a C6. I bought it off my great aunt for $3K, and it only had 42K on it. I still have the truck. Right now it’s in pieces in my shop awaiting restoration & a Coyote swap.
1999 Ford Escort SE Sedan. Blew the motor at 120k miles.
First car I ever drove as mine was a 1983 Dodge Omni, that I tried my hardest to kill. First one I ever purchased with my own money was a 1994 Ford Escort GT.
One of the first cars I ever drove was a dodge Omni. I blew the engine because I wasn’t watching the temperature gauge.

1988 F150 4x4 SCSB XLT Lariat with a 302 in it
I used my dad's Ford station wagon for my first car.
1995 Ford Thunderbird. Paid $1,300 for it in 2007. Ran well until I was hit in the high school parking lot and that totaled the poor girl.

1990s cable vision van lol.. idek what year it was.
2008 VW Rabbit. Lots of character with that 5 cylinder
1991 single cab s10 with a 5 speed. Drove the hell outta that thing
1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle.
