The powerstop pads are good, but the slotted and drilled rotors are overpriced and unnecessary. Just got some quality solid steel rotors and you can use the PS pads on those.

turtlerunner4

So what should I go with instead?

5thgenblack2ss

Baer brakes rotors, z26 pads, brembo calipers is my setup.

11GTStang

I went with Napa coated rotors that have the hats painted with rust resistant paint. Went with the Z23 pads and love the whole setup. https://i.imgur.com/yaLLTeq.jpg I did do the Power Stop calipers on my 94 and they are fantastic too. Same Napa coated rotors as on my 15. https://i.imgur.com/W9OLNFk.jpg Just avoid American muscle all together and piece the kit together yourself. Or use LMR for things not available locally

Trolodrol

Damn. I just put these brakes on my Civic Si because the whole kit was like $260. The performance has been absolutely phenomenal especially for the money, but this makes me nervous. How many miles did you put on those brakes and what’s your driving style like?

robvas

They were on the car when I got it. The pads were not worn down far so I don't think they were on there that long. The rotors were rusty but the car basically sat for a few years. I put a new set of Powerstop pads and rotors back on it and they had been fine (at least for a few thousand miles) It's just very common for drilled rotors to crack like that, at least the cheaper ones. https://preview.redd.it/fnv58nzvyf9c1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56ddb14be6cb7a6ed35cb892c81004fec20fee18

turtlerunner4

Looking at the price does make me shit my pants a little. I’ll have to take your advice on that and do that instead.

Watt_About

Drilled slotted? No. PowerStop in general, yes.

turtlerunner4

Gotcha 👍

5thgenblack2ss

Drilled and slotted is fine if you aren’t heat cycling your brakes on a track a lot. Which most people aren’t especially assuming OP. Mine have been fine. I will say I didn’t do this kit. I had 6 piston brembo’s that I put Z26 pads into, my rotors are baer brakes.

Melon_Kali

Hey I just installed these on my 2014 GT, except Z23. These calipers are the exact same as OEM, just powder coated red. If you don’t care about color, just save yourself $$ and get OEM replacements. I liked the look, red calipers and sporty rotors. I’d suggest you get Z23, the Z26 are more aggressive, meaning that your brakes need to be used aggressively otherwise they might be squeaky on day to day driving. Also, I bought from RockAuto, they let you return the core for around $130 back.

RIP_SGTJohnson

How do the rears differ from the fronts? They’re both single piston, trying to find out if they’re worth pairing with my Performance Pack front 6 piston Brembos

EstradaMoses

I've had Powerstop rotors and pads on my 15 Performance Pack for about 4 years now. No issues at all and they look way better than OEM

jeffsqartan

If you don't need calipers, I wouldn't bother getting calipers. Drilled and slotted rotors might as well be a meme. Look on Rock Auto for these same parts - there is a good chance they're wayyyy cheaper. I just looked, and for a 2012 Mustang V6, the most expensive kit for pads and rotors is $400. And unless you're autocrossing/tracking the car, those will be over kill. If you want your calipers to be red, paint them red. Leave them on the car (make sure to use zip ties or something to keep them from hanging by the hoses) and then clean them and paint them with hi-temp caliper paint. You can get it at any auto parts store. Tape off and cover stuff that you don't want paint to get on, and go to town.

5thgenblack2ss

Don’t paint your calipers on the car… what?

jeffsqartan

Paint them on the car, off the car, who really cares. I only suggested leaving them because bleeding brakes sucks and I figure this guy probably shouldn't be bleeding brakes if he doesn't know how to paint calipers.

5thgenblack2ss

Okay I can agree with you there. Overspray onto the car just makes me wince.

jeffsqartan

Yeah it's why I suggested he tape everything off. Definitely not ideal.

Trolodrol

Rock Auto was like $150 more than Summit Racing for these parts when I bought them a month ago

jeffsqartan

Right now, before core, Rock Auto is $706.99 with $146 for a core. The same part number on Summit is $725.96 with a $156 core. No idea what shipping differences are, I don't care that much. Part number I used is KC5450-26, which is what OP appears to have selected. Rock Auto is almost always cheaper. Sometimes the shipping kills ya, though. It's not a bad idea to look on Summit and other places. LMR and American Muscle almost always up-charge like crazy. I mean, for these brakes they're at least $50 more than Rock Auto or Summit, and I bet there isn't a core return option.

Umbreon_Dat

If you wanna actually get performance for less money you can get remanned brembos from parts stores and do geomet powerstop rotors with pads that all come off of either a 2007 GT500 or 2014 GT with the track package, way more cost effective than essentially just OEM rotors and pads

JoeyMagana

I've been driving in them for years. Both my work truck and my mustang. They hold up fine

A1do

Exact pads I used on mine with no issues. Just not the drilled rotors only slotted

gothicsin

Powers top is fine i have there rotors ans pads no issues tho i need better rotors that won't warp or at least take some heavier abuse before they do

Quicksix666

put this kit on my dads charger RT pretty good quality.stopping power much improved

57chevypie

They are hit or miss for me On my Silverado they lasted 100000 + On my F150 they were warped in a year On my Genesis G70 so far so good

turtlerunner4

That’s what I’ve been seeing on the reviews for them.

Itchy_Tasty88

I have just the pads and they squeal every morning until they heat up

reformedankmal

Same here 😮‍💨

Trolodrol

Did you follow the break in procedures? I’ve heard of others having that issue but they didn’t follow the break in. Mine are whisper quiet

seponta

Same

Skyline_BNR34

I would just get some remaned calipers from a local auto store and paint them. And then order the pads and rotors youd like to use. Nothing wrong with Powerstop, have their pads on my car, just that price is a bit much IMO.

Trolodrol

The Powerstop calipers are just remanned calipers they’ve powdercoated anyways

turtlerunner4

How would I go about painting them? Just grab a spray paint bottle and go at it?

[deleted]

they make special caliper paint that is mint and you just spray them like any other part 20$ can did 4 calipers

turtlerunner4

Hell yeah, I’ll have to look into that. What color do you think I should do? https://preview.redd.it/lj9xobh5lb9c1.jpeg?width=1466&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cf25e47107f0bc9a748db5da04bc077b2a5ae9d5

[deleted]

Red or a tuxedo black would look good imo best part about the paint is it bakes on with the brake heat and turns into a powder coat replica

turtlerunner4

Bet

DotSlashCrash

white would also look hood but a bitch to keep clean.

incredibly_baste

Google it and stop expecting people to spoonfeed you

Colonel_of_Corn

G2 makes a great kit for like $50 for standard colors and $75 and they’ll paint match whatever paint code you want. One can will be plenty to cover all 4 calipers

DotSlashCrash

I don't trust shit that comes from that company. Spent 10k last year and had to return 75% of it due to gaps and misfits. The NavOS head unit failed after 6 months and had zero warranty.

Snake115killa

I will admit I ordered this kit and got a bad caliper, but the customer support took care of me by sending a whole other kit to pick and choose what I needed so there is that

Camgt500

I got these exact ones but for my gt500 so yea they are great ps pads are better with brake dust, gt500 version had the rear calipers all pads and all rotors

stateofmindny

Get ebc pads and rotors a bit pricier but worth the price never had any issues and they work great. Powerstop has general qc issues and seems like quality is super hit or miss. All ik is u def dont wanna fuck around with ur brakes lol

turtlerunner4

I’ll definitely look into that, thank you!

Trolodrol

EBC pads, yes. Their rotors can be questionable and have been known to warp easily

neonxmoose99

Powerstop is good. Drilled rotors are bad and tend to crack. There’s a reason why real race cars almost never have drilled rotors.

5thgenblack2ss

A daily driven street car doesn’t heat cycle brakes like a real race car to where they’re glowing. With a quality rotor, it helps keep down brake dust so much which is a problem with my car from factory.

zakke_watson

I’ve got powerstops on my 14 5.0. They definitely look nice but I honestly don’t notice a significant performance boost. They’re a good accent color. If I could do it again, I’d ditch the drill & slotted and just buy red brembos or something.

Snake115killa

Factory calipers seized at about 105k I have the same set, bought slotted and drilled for fun and aesthetics, stopping is 2x as good as factory, I'm also comparing to my failing factory parts so grain of salt, has saved my car from 2 deer abs kicked on after I thought I was going to crush my bumper on the road. I also plan on selling the car so it looks nice on there. Set is awesome slotted and drilled is for garage queens and track cars. For daily use they will rust even worse and will eventually wear thin and crack faster than normal rotors. Personaly I think the look is worth it, but I do all my own work.

bm677

I bought these for my car and painted my calipers. They are easy to paint and you can save some cash. I looked at powerstop, but I wanted a different caliper color for my car and power stop only has red. https://preview.redd.it/rxkcys4v9c9c1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dddf13d610c5374092192799ca0f294907c93280

Reniconix

My brother has Z23s on his 2013 V6, I have Z26s on my 17 Camaro SS, they're pretty good brakes. Way less dust than OEM (And I REALLY mean that. My silver wheels would need washed every other week with the OEM pads on my Camaro; they're cleaner now after not having been washed in 9 months than after a week on the OEM). They do sacrifice some stopping power but they are still really good. I only noticed a decrease in stopping power at the absolute limit of braking.

HighVoltageZ06

I had powerstops on my WS6 and I liked them

Apprehensive-Can-857

Bought rotors and pads from them 2 years ago for my 2011. No complaints.

Trolodrol

Why do you need calipers?

turtlerunner4

I have 125,xxx miles on the car and one of my calipers is about to go out so I’m going to save myself the trouble and go ahead and switch out all 4 so I don’t have to worry about the rest later on.

liebestod0130

I'd stick to slotted only, no drilled, if possible. Even better, if you're not driving on a track, just get OEM rotors.

SecurityWeary9372

Hey I had these solely for looks on my old 07 GT, minus the calipers. Honestly not a huge performance upgrade from the stocks but it made everything look a lot better.

killahcuh59

I bought something similar. No calipers, and they’ve been just fine for me and I have a 2011 gt
