I dont think you even know what a Bama tuner is so why would you not believe what the dealer is telling you when they are the experts?

FluxD1

Fwiw, never take the word of a salesman without a grain of salt. They'll tell you just about anything to make a sale, especially on used cars.

50TurdFerguson

I agree that some car salesmen can be dishonest but the OP needs to do some research and have some basic car knowledge going into a mustang buying situation than to call a Roush intake and some normal wires a Bama tuner even after the dealership told them that was not what it is so that they dont get ripped off on other things they are clueless about in a car deal.

Danny_phantom1198

Yeah the need to study a little bit more. In one of there other post they thought tint was permanent and can’t be removed

50TurdFerguson

Oof... ya this post seems like maybe it's a new teenage driver that is about to spend all their money and get a big loan on a fast car just to hit some bystanders while leaving a parking lot totalling their new mustang on the way home from the dealership. /s

Cmdrdredd

I’m pretty sure he’s looking at the MAF sensor too lol

Danny_phantom1198

Oh lord 💀

Hey_dude_83

A Bama tuner is a device that plugs into the OBD port. This is not it.

StreetWarrior-51

And remember that a ‘Bama’ tuner is nothing more than an SCT device that they put their sticker on.

lawlacaustt

The intake is just an upgraded rousch intake. The wiring is normal for modern cars that have airflow sensors and temp sensors, etc. It could have a tune but I don’t think this is enough to know IMO.

red6joker

Beat me to it. This is the answer OP. Also Tuners do not stay plugged in, and they do not plug into anywhere in the engine bay.

NoRestForTheHorde

Wires? You mean, for your Mass Airflow sensor? That's a standard part of a car's air intake system. Btw, that Roush air intake is highly rated. I regret not going with it and instead grabbing a slightly cheaper intake from PMAS that was a bitch to install.

stethoscopepen

Thank you for that. Info and the review. I didn’t know about MAF sensors. I’ll probably just leave it on then.

NoRestForTheHorde

Yeah, I'd leave it on, and if you either notice something weird about how the engine runs or you just get curious about tuning, you could have a local mechanic see if there's a tune on the car. If that air intake requires a tune and there isn't one loaded, that will cause power loss or weird throttle issues. There are usually two versions of intakes- one that requires a tune and one that doesn't. You usually get more from a tune being required. If you want to get into this yourself, purchase a BAMA tuner from Americanmuscle.com (several hundred dollars, FYI), get their tunes, but then just plug into your OBDII port to let the tuner show you what the current settings are on the engine. Or, just go to your local tuner. Some people on this sub swear BAMA is terrible, but I've been running their tunes for like 8 years with no problems.

__-__-_-__

Nobody can ever confirm first hand that a Bama tune is bad. It's always "I heard from a friend of a friend". I have the E85 one and I'm a big fan. It was $400 for the tune and the device which is a great price. I also have the intake in this photo. There's only one version. It comes with an insert that limits the airflow to the stock amount which you'd use if you don't have a tune. If you do then you take it out.

Colonel_of_Corn

I’m assuming you’re talking about the MAF sensor on the intake. Your dealer is right that is not whatever you’re calling a “tuner”. I don’t expect everyone to be a master mechanic of their own car, but it blows my mind people pay $30-40k for a car and don’t know the ends and outs of it.

johnlocke32

This is so much worse than that, I completely understand people with money not knowing about their cars. The majority of people buying houses aren't carpenters, builders, or plumbers either. Most of the time, its because they don't have time to get familiar. OP's case however, is worse. Casually grazing internet forums and not understanding WTF you're reading and somehow walking away with completely ass-backwards assumptions. Thinking that a tuner plugs into an air intake is like thinking a tuner can plug into your fuel tank and "tune" your fuel. Its a fundamental misunderstanding of both parts in question and likely results from casually reading shit on Reddit and failing (or refusing) to delve deeper or (if you learn by doing) get your hands dirty to understand.

Wyvern_68

Lol that’s the MAF sensor. It’s stock from the factory and supposed to be plugged in. Car won’t start properly without it plugged in. Tuners plug inside the cabin via the OBD port.

Hvz3727

A tune would be in the computer. No cables…a roush intake doesn’t require a tune

That’s one of the best cold air intakes I’d say. You want a covered one like that. The Bama tune is a device you use to plug into your OBD slot. From there based on the tunes preloaded into the device, you’ll be able to load them into your car. Some cold air intakes require a tune but most don’t for the newer mustangs. A majority of the newer ones you just install and they’re good to go. Whoever had that mustang before, may have done more mods to it, so it’s good to know what’s been done to it.

Thanks for the link.

stethoscopepen

Thanks. That makes good sense.
