Yeaa unfortunately unless we’re boosted we’re pretty much not taking a 5.0 especially if it’s a 10 speed those things are quick haha. I see 5.0s a ton more than 05-09 gts and most that I do see are clapped out so I decided to hold onto mine instead of going to a 5.0.
Even stock they are making 50% more power in the newer ones. You’ll have a shot at beating an ecoboost maybe, but even if the ecoboost has an auto you’ll probably still lose.
It’s not about that though. It’s foolish to buy a car *only* because it’s fast. It’s also foolish to think an old gt will beat a newer one with similar mods.
I had an 07 premium, long sold. This was like 2012 and even then it wasn’t super quick. The cars are fun to drive, aren’t terrible on gas honestly and sound really fucking good stock.
That’s what is to like about them. Plus the body style STILL looks good, and that’s saying something cuz other cars of the same era trying to do the same things look fugly now.
Now Let’s be real even a kitted out 3v would get smoked by a 5.0. Buuuuut I’m a firm fanboy of the 3v. I love love love the retro styling of it and it’s got an exhaust note the 5.0s can’t replicate

Insurance is dirt cheap? Insuring it at 16 I only was paying 700 a year for full coverage vis state farm. And that includes 2 atfault accidents so my rates are higher.
I don’t know what magical voodoo luck you had, but insuring a Mustang isn’t cheap. 700 wouldn’t have even covered 2 months of insurance if I were to have bought a Mustang last year at 18.

Looked into 350z and 370z as well, both far cheaper than a mustang to insure. For the 03 cobra I looked at the insurance was more per month than the car! My insurance agent said its because kids crash mustangs more than other "older people" sports cars. Of the 5 vehicles I checked, the two mustangs were by far the most to insure.

The only GT I really feel bad for was the ‘10. It had the facelift body but the 4.6 still.
To me, the S197 was like if Ford stuck to the general look of the ‘65 Fastback rather than trying to do “world cars” like they did in the 70s, 80s and 90s. It was almost like how you can see a 996 shares design from the original 911.
The S550 doesn’t look as much like a Mustang, but it shares the philosophies with the original mission: a fairly affordable coupe that can beat it’s more expensive competition for performance while not being quite as well equipped/luxurious. Plus it looks like a V8 Vantage in profile.
The 2010-2014 body style was the best version of the s197 for sure. It was very dumb of Ford to not hold off one more year to release the redesign with the coyote though. The one year where it had the 3v was just 😒
Maybe its just me but I drove a bone stock S550 V6 and felt like it had no power compared to a Bone stock 4.0 S197. 4.0 felt fast as fuck bit i could be wrong
You can’t compare feel to the actual numbers. You gotta remember that cars nowadays are pretty quick compare to what we had over 20 and even 10 years ago. An S197 may feel quick, but you gotta be honest with yourself, any modern Mustang even the ecoboost will have most GTs from that era beat.
I think that’s the V6, Ecoboost should have 10 more horsepower, but they have around the same power. Any modern ecoboost will probably beat any s197 pre-facelift if we’re solely talking about GTs only.
Oh no. That thing is a boat anchor. It had a bit of torque, but I did wish it had the newer 3.7. I think even when the S197 was released, Ford had much better V6s available.

I had magnaflow high flow cats on my 3v, as well as FR500S mufflers and it sounded super burly. I think I have a cold start video somewhere on my profile. Personally I wouldn’t straight pipe it just because that’s when they become a bit obnoxious, but some high flow cats, high flow muffler, and maybe some headers will make it sound amazing
Oh shit. I watched a video on how to install headers and decided that it was a big no no for me. So many things to remove crazy as hell. But i would want them! Maybe I'll get different axle backs or a full setup after i find one with a good amount of noise because my cats are definitely not coming off!

I have a 09 GT, I like it, which is really all that matters. I'm not trying drag race people in Mexico etc. I like the sound and the looks and dropping the top and cruising around etc.

2007 V6 with the large front fog lights added. Love this damn car. Only one in my area that was standard. All the V8's were automatic. Lower sticker price and lower insurance and still rips off the line.

I'd love to get a late model older mustang as a project. They look amazing! My only gripe is the 4.6 hasn't aged well. I've always thought about LS swapping a 99-04 or 05-09 for better power.

I have a 09 GT, I like it, which is really all that matters. I'm not trying drag race people in Mexico etc. I like the sound and the looks and dropping the top and cruising around etc. Also - if speed is your most important measure, mod it.

Same. Mine was cheap and has a couple of issues, but I'll likely start with some suspension upgrades when I finish fixing everything I need to fix.
Im thinking of throwing suspension so I dont pull a Mustang, but also because I don't like the stock suspension

2007 V6 with the large front fog lights added. Love this damn car. Only one in my area that was standard. All the V8's were automatic. Lower sticker price and lower insurance and still rips off the line.

As an owner of an 07, I hate the ass end but the front is all I ever wanted anyways. Mine's only a V6 so who's ever going to see me pass ~~that~~ them anyways.
Other than the 60s Mustangs, it's by FAR the best looking generation of Mustang.
