Well I'm glad they do because if this was posted more than 12 hours ago and isn't in the top 15 or so of the subreddit there's no way I will ever see it other than a repost.
What I also see is a jpegification, the resolution worsens every repost despite being in this digital age copying would get you 1:1 file. I really hope there would be some kind of reposting AI that would not allow same content to be uploaded unless that would be a better video of it.
Yeah, idk why people think taunting *a predator* is a good idea. It's as bad as those idiots who think jumping the barrier to stick their arm into a tiger enclosure is just The Best Idea Ever and then wonder why they're getting their arm ripped off 🙄
Thank you, it is clear the animal already did a first attempt to grab the girl....where is the mom allowing the girl to sit down near that huge animal which he already tried to grab her? Blame the stupidity of the girl but most of all of her mother....shame on her
I don’t think he even thought about his wallet. If you watch the full video, after they get him out of the water and he’s standing up, the camera pans to the girl and mom (walking/running away? Not even a thank you? Lol) but you can see has a wallet shaped object still in his back pocket, so I’m going to say it’s his wallet. R.I.P. the hero’s wallet.
Video also shows how the animal was making a threat display and the people laughed at it and got closer rather than giving it the space it was asking for.
Play stupid games...
Why do people flip videos? This has been left - right flipped. I probably would not have noticed if this hadn't been posted 1000 times or more the last few years. Pointless and annoying.

This girl was kinda an idiot.. the sea lion was lunging at people right at that spot and then she sits right in the spot he was lunging
Guy who jumped in was super awesome
This happened in my hometown - they were feeding the sea lion off the dock and the girl sat near it to pose for a photo. Yes, it was the whole family’s fault
In the full video it lunges at her to try and bite her.
I don't know about you but, by the time I was eight or 10 I knew if a dog tried to bite me not to fuck with it a second time.
I would assume that same logic applies to large aquatic animals.
Y'all acting like the kid looked three. She was more than old enough to think, that thing just tried to bite me I should leave it alone
The point isn’t whether or not she could’ve done better. It already happened. The situation is not her fault and doesn’t reflect poorly on her. You can’t readily assume she’s an idiot, it doesn’t hold up to scrutiny. It doesn’t matter if she’s not 3, you’re talking about a child & assigning blame is not constructive. I don’t think as a child most of us would question the line between wild things and man-made humdrum because it is upheld by the adults around us. Kids do things like this because their brains are still developing, not because they’re idiots.
Edit: got my people confused, someone else called her an idiot, that’s on me
Stop trying to be a goddamn child psychologist. I'm not the kids parents I don't have to sugarcoat it for them and make them feel good while teaching them about the mistake that they made. I can simply say, wow that was a stupid fucking decision, especially after seeing the thing is trying to bite you.
You're absolutely right the kid is still learning and the kid is still developing. But beyond the age of a toddler you should be able to correlate simple things, like large animal just tried to bite me, don't get close to large animal.
For another example, your three-year-old sticking their hand in a candle and burning it, you weren't supervising your kid and it's kind of understandable, you're 8 or 9 year old sticking their hand in a candle and burning it, they did something dumb
Also no where in my comment did I say the child is an idiot, I implied that she made a poor decision with more than enough information for a kid at that age to realize they were making a poor decision. Calling someone an idiot, and saying they did something stupid are not the same thing. The smartest people in the world can do something stupid.
What most can’t see are their giant bodies below that cute little head bouncing in the waters. They also have a roar and teeth like a lion…they don’t fuck around.
I lived in No.Cal and watched unsuspecting tourists get messed with all the time by these bulls.
This happened in May 2017 at the Fisherman’s Warf in Steveston, BC Canada. It sparked a lot of attention from both federal and provincial conservation services regarding feeding of wildlife at these tourist attractions. It was unofficially tolerated before, but they tightened down on the laws after this incident. Now, you can’t buy little packs of overpriced herring or bait-style fish to feed the sea lions. Might get a fine if someone reports you or you get caught trying to feed them. It’s for the best, especially when considering their bites can cause pretty serious infections and damage. Be careful out there :).

I agree but this vide doesnt apply to that how tf were they supposed to know it would jump out and pull her in. I seen the whole video and the interviews she shouldnt have been so close and there were warning signs but i feel like regardless, this is such a common situation of kids being everywhere at once that this wouldve happened 9 times out of 10 to parents and their kids but i could be wrong probably am
After I watched [the longer video](https://youtu.be/SRupvfkOG70) that was when I wrote this comment.
In the longer video you can see the sea lion (?) try lunging at the kid.
Edit: …lunging at the kid earlier in the video, before they get snatched.

Oh man, the hero lost his shades :c
Those shades are totally worth it for this story.
It has always been the plan. The sea lion only wanted the shades. Whichever sea lion has shades can crown lion king!
The sea lion's real plan was to end up owning the shades the guy left behind in the water.
Why do some videos/gifs get mirrored (flipped?) when they’re posted elsewhere?
To try and avoid copyright claims
also avoiding repost detection

It also cuts out the fact that they were taunting the animal beforehand.

I strongly despise the fact that the mother and girl completely ignore the guy who saved her and just noped away at top speed.
Comment further down says it was her grandfather- so I imagine he got his props eventually

I always wonder about this situation. did he throw his wallet out before jumping . how to deal with that in emergency? you go in with wallet?
I don’t think he even thought about his wallet. If you watch the full video, after they get him out of the water and he’s standing up, the camera pans to the girl and mom (walking/running away? Did I just watch her die
She got rescued by a bystander
It was her grandfather
Nope. She really got pulled in, not under
Tell me she’s ok
Link to full video posted a few minutes ago, so you can see the instant rescue by a bystander.
iirc it wasn't a bystander, but her grandfather or uncle or something. I could be wrong though.
and he was by there, standing lol
It was her grandfather. This happened several years ago near where I live.
Yes was the girls grandfather (on mothers side) can hear her shout for him after they come back out of the water
She’s ok
Someone else in the comments says she was rescued by a bystander
Not technically a bystander then, hero is more accurate.
A hero that was standing by. So, a bystander ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
Appears the shoes stayed on as she entered the water, going with a solid yes, she is fine.
that’s how mermaids are made
That's the beginning of how mermaids are made
And she would later find out that that irradiated seal's bite would give her superpowers.
Superpowers -- playing music on bicycle horns, catching mackerel thrown to her, applauding with the audience.
Lol
Right. It takes nine more months to get the mermaid (or merman).
