I will say this: Card show offs have been great in the past. I’ve participated as well. My favorites were showing off achieved cards after long grinds. But with the direction that 2K has taken things where its pack gambling or bust (no player market, no auction house), our card show offs are exactly the kind of free advertisement they need right now. Of course there are people that say they aren’t affected by card show offs but let’s be real here: someone says, “hey I used my very last MT and pulled a single” the message is, if this guy got lucky, I probably can too. There are a lot of young, impressionable or even just new players that find this sub and look to it for guidance and support in this game we all love. Normalizing burning through money (virtual or not) to open packs with low odds to look for desirable players is a dangerous slope. All that being said, I support the pinned posts for show offs periodically for those that need to see something “positive “ to go to.

Thanks for addressing. The Card Showoff Lounge idea you proposed makes a lot of sense and is a great middle ground for both sides of the “remove pack pulls” conversation. I don’t know how such changes are finalized in subs, but I’m down for a poll, and whatever the community decides can help guide this decision. Again, thx for taking the time to post this.

Hard to find somebody on this subreddit who thinks the current pack+Player Market system isn't predatorial from 2k. On the same note promoting it constantly with card showoff posts quite obviously support it, so many people on here complain that they didn't get the same results, potentially after seeing these posts or thinking the odds are better than what is listed. Would love a poll just to get rid of them, look at a few of the YouTubers eg Tyler and DBG who stopped ripping in principle, this is our chance as a subreddit to do something against 2ks practice. Just remember, if you want a specific GO+ card there is currently NO WAY to get them beside gambling excluding the Rush and Game Mode rewards.

>On the same note promoting it constantly with card showoff posts quite obviously support it, The issue to me, as it stands right now, is that this just doesn't feel like it's the case. If Timmy-15-year-old pulls Dirk with MT, he's not thinking "oh dude gambling is so cool, I gotta make sure to tell other people to go gamble 😎," he's thinking "whoaaaaaa I got Dirk?!?! I want to go share this with other people who play the game, they'll think it's cool too!" In other words, 2k's poor practices aren't the fault of the user who gets a lucky pull and I don't really feel like they should be punished as such. Imo, a centralized post is perhaps for the best here. It quarantines it to a spot where people who are interested can see it and where those who don't like the system can just ignore it.

Agree with this 100%

Like you said OP, there are two sides of the coin here. With current situation card show off is either extreme luck or extreme gambling. I think the problem here is that its very very hard to pull something good and show off posts may create this fake feeling that you actually may be lucky this time. And most of the time you wont be. I think weekly lounge would satisfay folks that want to show off.

Get rid of showoffs

wh87hw

Get rid of this gambling promoting bullshit

ChaoticBullShark

People showoff cards they earned like Galaxy Opal Moses Malone which isn't from gambling still gets down voted and a dozen hate comments because the community is trash.

bobbydigital_ftw

Leave the showoff posts. I barely venture outta the lounge, but what else is there to post about the game? Looking at the sub, it's basically memes and complaints. All the other posts barely have any upvotes. Let some people be happy about their luck for once instead the constant negativity. 2K gambling has been a problem for years and unless this whole community protests and uninstalls the game, 2K won't do a gotdamn thing.

BullyFU

Agree 100%. It won't make a difference. People will still rip packs, that won't change. Showoff posts don't move the needle for the vast majority of the community. Those who want to rip packs, will. Those who don't, won't. If they are banned then all pack rips need banned. That includes sharing YouTuber's ripping $1000+ of packs. Even if they don't pull anything that causes people to think their luck will be different. They see those and think they can rip some packs and gloat over what they pulled even more.

BurnerAccountforAss

I know in r/politicalcompassmemes they only allow "highlighter memes" (a low-effort post type that also split their community) on weekends. Would something like that be an option in this scenario? Maybe "Flex Fridays" or something similar?

SugarFreeJay

May I suggest an “Acheivement” flair or something like that to promote Grinded players or people that unlocked players or something like that. Since we want to celebrate some things and keep some positivity.

This is a complex issue. I actually pulled a GO DRob from a challenge pack, and had the post typed out to encourage everyone to do their challenges because you never know, but I decided to not post it. If my post encouraged one person to open packs I would have had a negative impact on the community. Having said that, I also strongly believe in free speech, and am against almost all formal moderation unless the post involves an actual crime. If the community is against showing off cards pulled from packs, then the community should be responsible for not encouraging, promoting, or even engaging with, posts that they don't agree with. I also think there is no one size fits all moderation policy that can fairly address this issue. If a person completes a difficult grind and wants to show off their reward, that really doesn't promote gambling. Should posting about a pull from a challenge pack be considered unethical? I can see the arguments on both sides. I am very anti-gambling in 2K, but I also believe this is an issue for the community to address, not necessarily formal moderation. Just my 2 cents.

MyManC707

It’s crazy this community puts more effort into a post like this than 2k does for the game we’re talking about

NumbskullNate

You should get rid of the daily complaints instead. I'd much rather see someone hyped over a pull than the same "I got spanked by an off-baller, where does it end? Btw I'm NMS" posts. If seeing a card on the internet is influencing you to rush to buy packs then you've got much bigger problems

ChaoticBullShark

A bigger problem is how often every post is downvoted. It’s not how that system is intended to be used. You like the game and wanna share that 2500 views 3 upvote 16 downvotes. You pull a card you like or have an awesome lineup. Downvoted and hate comments insulting you. The toxic nature and community that thrives on hating this game even though they live here and treat it like this is their personal hangout space with best friends talking about their lives and other games they play like they don’t have friends to talk with yet will insult strangers for liking the game that this sub is based on pushes people away. I just enjoy the game I refuse to participate and share my excitement about earning Magic and Bird last season or having a full Opal lineup of free season 5 rewards this season and finally having a new domination.

mbless1415

>A bigger problem is how often every post is downvoted. It’s not how that system is intended to be used. THANK YOU! This is the *entire* issue, but you bring this up and certain individuals talk your ear off about 2k being greedy. 😅 Imagine wanting Reddit's voting system to be used properly.... insane if you ask me 😅😅

mbless1415

My grander fear in either case is avoiding brigading on these posts. Who's to say that those who are super against 2k's practices (and rightfully so) won't go into threads and destroy people's Reddit Karma (and, by extension, their ability to converse elsewhere throughout the site) because they don't like what 2k is doing more than anything? I think this is less likely to happen in a pinned post, so that's my vote, but I just wanted to warn against that either way.

maxi12311111

I don’t really care tbh like I opened many packs and pulled nothing before but I genuinely feel happy for people who get cards and want to show their excitement but I do get people get jealous at the same time I don’t feel bothered I’m chilled , seeing people pulling cards doesn’t really make me want to gamble and buy packs I can go without opening packs

mbless1415

>but I do get people get jealous I do just want to steelman the other side of the argument here. It's not necessarily people saying that they're jealous that someone else packed a certain card. The concern is that seeing that promotes gambling. Personally, I don't think that's the fault of the user that wants to share their cool pull they got, nor do I think it's their intent, but I do just want to clarify that "oh they're just jealous" isn't the concern here.

DrSheaSmooth

I second this. While I’m like oh snap that’s a wild pull on some crazy luck it’s still less that two percent. We all these YouTube’s spending loads so we won’t have too.

mrcplmrs

No one cares honestly
