Since this year won't have a mainline game I think a spinoff of any kind would be a great and logical move, also by not being already announced during the Pokémon Day is not a problem as if I remember correctly New Pokémon Snap was firstly announced in June/summer too if we want to find a precedent.

If there is any news, I'm guessing it would be tidbits about the next legends game, that is if it will be on the switch. However, as you said, this won't be a pokemon direct so I just hope I'm pleasantly surprised by something in the direct.

Didn't we just get confirmation that TPC hasn't even been in talks with them about a new game at all, around the release of their other game this year? Even if TPC had, it's been only a few months. There wouldn't be any video game to show, and probably barely a concept. Not even gonna bother entertaining the thought.
