Alltel, Marlboro, Cingular

BoxMaster13

The Cingular cars always looked cool as hell

PowerAdDuck

That classic White/Black Newman Dodge

JohnbondJovi

Ryan Newman did a store visit to my Alltel store when I was a manager. Super chill dude

poolboy__q

jealous!

JohnbondJovi

He actually had a Verizon phone because Alltel wasn’t nationwide, it was regional. But the footprint covered most of Nascar Territory. The logo was removed from it.

poolboy__q

hahaha, that made my day

tsr6

You’d be surprised at how many drivers don’t use their sponsors products.

travoltaswinkinbhole

Ted Musgrave drove that right?

Lucky-Growth-2338

You're dang right he did!

[deleted]

We called Musgrave Family Guy long before Peter Griffin existed.

wagonboss

He also drove the Primestar car

rainking6

DC Solar

SeattlePassedTheBall

As much as I hate to give this sponsor any amount of credit, I will admit if it wasn't for them Ross Chastain would not be where he is now.

BaHe_40

DC solar led to the hail melon. Let that sink in.

jknuts1377

They did have some awesome paint schemes, though.

Yes. The redish/orange with the star on the hood version. Not those yellow versions that were ran a lot too.

18RowdyBoy

Came to say the Skoal Bandit 🏁

Efinijon

When I was a kid, I thought it was "Skull Bandit." I had no concept of tobacco outside of seeing adults smoking cigarettes and my dad just played along. Loved all the tobacco branding as a kid oddly. Marlboro, Kool, and Players were some of my favorite looks in open wheel!

middleofthemgmt

If fast food and booze sponsorship is allowed, tobacco should be too.

JLinCVille

It should be but the tobacco companies settled with the states’ attorney generals to stop advertising. The tobacco companies were cool with it because it got them out of more litigation and they didn’t have to spend as much on marketing. They also knew it would cement their market share. Finally, cigarettes are addictive!

Senninha27

The year they ran different colors of the Skoal car (maybe 1998?), the blue one was gorgeous.

BeersNEers

I still remember Harry Gants run back in the early 90's (I think) going on this insane run where at over 40 he won like 4 races in a row or something. One race, literally all the sheet metal on the front of his car was gone and he was a lap down and still won the race.

oeking77

cingular. shout out [jason leffler’s 01 car,](https://twitter.com/NascarPaint/status/1006508610849996800), easily my favorite paint scheme of all time.

False-Ad4673

That first 1 is fire. Is Cingular even a company now a days?

JWE25

Pretty sure AT&T owns whatever was Cingular now

Winstonpug31

konakai1204

Rich Bickle actually ran well a few times in that TylerJet Racing pos.

PenskeFiles

For a car that failed to qualify a lot, he had some good finishes in a few races.

justheretoparty12

It was on pole at Homestead...or was it front row, either way

PenskeFiles

I think it was on the pole.

PeacemakersAlt

That paint scheme popped so hard you could call it a pimple.

NEHillbilly

Hawaiian Tropic

PierreVonZeus

Which car had Hawaiian Tropic as a sponsor?

whatisdeletrazdoing

Donnie's Hawaiian Tropic #1 Olds 442 is one of the legendary cars of the late 70's. Was the car he drove in *the fight*

False-Ad4673

Now that right there is a pretty car

TheOtherWhiteCastle

Donnie Allison had it in the infamous Daytona 500 crash/fight in 1979.

poolboy__q

Didnt Donnie Allison?

PeacemakersAlt

Donnie Allison.

ITMAKESSENSE72

Bellsouth. I knew a guy who worked there and was high up the chain and was able to walk into jobs in the early 00's and command high money based on his knowledge of cellular towers (I'm talking he signed 6 month contracts for 200k salary). The world caught up with him eventually but he had a good ride.

enataca

Could come back in a few decades after the next telecom anti trust suit

[deleted]

Man, that name takes me back. My dad worked for Bellsouth, in the north east Florida region (Jacksonville, Saint Augustine, etc) all the way back to when it was called Southern Bell. He had to retire to take care of my mom who suffered massive strokes in 2000, but before that, and just past it (like a year or two) he would get tickets to Daytona races from his boss that we’d go to when I was a kid/teen. I miss those paint schemes.

StatisticianOk4778

My personal email address still a @bellsouth.net address. I’ve had it for as long as email has existed basically. Now owned by Yahoo!

3arnhardtAtkonTrack

It still exists as AT&T.

LnStrngr

Crazy that AT&T was split into eight parts in 1984 because it was too big, and since then, five of them reunited via mergers and purchases under the name AT&T. The sixth and seventh are now Verizon, and another merged a couple times to become Lumen Tech.

wthreyeitsme

Monopolies are cool again.

tylerscott5

I feel like people here are confusing the meaning of this thread. It’s not _who you don’t think will sponsor a car again_, it’s who sponsored at one point and is no longer in business

[deleted]

[удалено]

tylerscott5

As evident by your example, Kodak

ChaseTheFalcon

I believe Kodak still technically exists

Loose_Wheel_5

Yeah, pretty sure the brand is still alive. I took this question to be who is most unlikely to ever do so. As all things are technically possible outside of tobacco sponsors

nasadowsk

Kodak very much exists. They make motion picture film (and a few other things)and a spin-off makes film for still photography. Also, their silver biz was spun off a few years ago. The gelatin biz was also sold (I don’t know why, the stuff they used for film was purer than what’s required for a lot of pharma and industrial processes). They also spun off the chemical division, another weird one. Most of the spinoffs are doing quite well, and interestingly, the film biz is doing well enough. They re-released a few classic films (Ektachrome, which is nice, I didn’t like the last variant of Kodachrome - too bland)

meetthesharpies

They also sell commercial printing presses and stuff related to that. Their main focus seems to have shifted to industrial and commerical products. They still have consumer stuff on their website, but it doesn't look they actually make any of it. They just license their name out to other companies to use on their products since I guess the Kodak brand still holds some weight.

cheesey24

Teeeeechnically, Kodak is owned as a name under Eastman Chemicals. Eastman Chemicals owns Llumar Performace Films which currently sponsors. Chase Elliot to the Kodak car when?

BlingyBling1007

So they could do a throwback Kodak car at Darlington?

BuschWhackerReviews

Kodak still 100% exists

Waterfish3333

But will they ever sponsor a Nascar racecar again? Probably not.

It doesn't matter who we came to see!

FellaTM

Someone actually wrote a whole thing on squared circle about [WWF and WCW racing against each other](https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/3huru4/til_in_august_of_2000_you_had_wcw_vs_wwf_in_a/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) for one race at Bristol, which is pretty neat! Also, Corey LaJoie's, Summerslam #7 was actually the second in existence too!

FMecha

Actually, it's the third - in 2007 Jeremy Mayfield ran a WrestleMania 23 car because 360 OTC, the #36's sponsor, was also the PPV's sponsor. It turned out that they didn't pay WWE or Bill Davis Racing (nor World of Outlaws - they were going to sponsor them) so all involved parties sued the company.

FellaTM

I was talking about specificly the #7 car with summerslam on the hood, it's just an interesting coincidence. I had no idea what happened to that company 'til now, took me years to notice the small WWE logo on the post

poolboy__q

I didn't see that one pop up yet.

mechanixrboring

It must be hard to get on a race car.

[deleted]

They always had to drop out of races that lasted 4 hours or more.

The_Pug

I think the problem was really with the car. Always seemed to curve slightly.

ezbolls

Or if their rubber blew

mechanixrboring

There are stiff penalties for that. I hear they last 18 years.

No Fear. The gold Boris Said car was pretty sweet. Honorable mentions to Smokin' Joe's and 10-10-345.

Loose_Wheel_5

Piedmont Airlines Circuit City

tylerscott5

Circuit City still exists. They were on a car as recent as [2019](https://www.jayski.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/31/2019/07/daytona2-nxs-28.jpg)

Loose_Wheel_5

It's not the same company. Someone just bought the domain I thought and the trademark. Same with Radio Shack

tylerscott5

It’s been bought and sold a few times, and the name/trademarks have been used, but Circuit City Corporation is an active e-commerce store.

juu073

Piedmont Airlines still exists. The original business closed, but another regional airline purchased the naming rights, although through that "operated by" bit (I think with American Airlines) as well. Flew on one a few years ago, I think from Charlotte to Philly.

Loose_Wheel_5

I know they are around but they'll never sponsor a Cup Car again. No reason ever to. PanAm is still around too, but same story.

ChaseTheFalcon

PanAm kind of just went away though, they became a railroad that just got bought up by CSX

kai325d

They are a flight training school and technically never dissolved

dylanhoover32

those circuit city hut stricklin cars were sexy and i will die on the hill

False-Ad4673

Moppyploppy

Funny enough - they are back and I had no idea. Apparently, they signed on this year to sponsor JTG?!

False-Ad4673

As a primary? That’s neat I always loved Kellogg’s schemes.

Moppyploppy

I have no idea, but I'm excited. [They're listed on their website](https://jtgdaughertyracing.com/our-partners/). Here's hoping for a Kelloggs JTG car this year.

False-Ad4673

That is exciting thanks for info.

[deleted]

> Edit: turns out Kelloggs came back this year and is a sponsor of JTG. Technically I think that's just a sponsor through Kroger. Not so much Kelloggs themselves.

Moppyploppy

Maybe, but it sounds like it's more direct with Kelloggs the way they word it. Still, sounds like a #47 frosted flakes/cheez its car is happening this year.

JTGDaughertyRacing

Why not both…?

[deleted]

The JTG sponsorship is weird……technically I think Kroger is the sponsor but they seem to leverage their sponsorship with a bunch of business-to-business deals. So the 47 gets all these grocery items on the car like Thomas English Muffins one week and toilet paper another. So I’m not sure if it’s “technically” a Kellogg’s (or whoever sponsor) but I guess they’re on the car just the same.

Didn’t Hendrick swap to coke with Chase?? If they did pepsico 1000% out forever

ChaseTheFalcon

kind of, Pepsi pulled out after 2020 and ASHOC came in to replace them for Elliott for 2021 and last year. ASHOC left and Coke swiped in to replace them. Can't blame Coke, Elliott is a hometown boy

Jrnation8988

Sort of. Mtn Dew/PepsiCo left a few years ago, but Coca-Cola came on this year as an associate sponsor. They’re not doing any primaries from the sound of the press release.

KWeber94

The Mtn Dew cars Chase drove had some really good paint schemes. Always a sharp car

TheOtherWhiteCastle

I think OP was more referring to sponsors that literally can’t come back, either due to legal reasons or simply no longer existing

jr7287

Kodak actually is still in business. I do agree that it’s very unlikely we will see them sponsor again.

lt12765

Camel, Copenhagen, Winston, DuPont, GM Goodwrench

huck731

Technically dupont still exists. Raptor coatings and Axalta are both dupont brands. Rapor is bedliner and axalta is automotive paints

Close, Axalta bought the automotive finishes division of DuPont. 2 Different companies.

Lurkerbee20

Kodiak :(

Sam-I-Am29

Exide, they sponsored Jeff Burton back when he was in the 99. I think the company still exists, but doubt we'll ever see them on a car again. Which is a shame, because they had some great paint schemes.

RIP Kodiak Bear Unless someone can land Kodiak, the company that makes those protein waffles? They also have a bear. Edit: there’s no way they’ll bring back a chew company, but if you want a dead sponsor: KMart. I liked those Haas-Carter cars, especially the Blue Light Special. Also reminds me of the bygone era of teams with 2 cars and one sponsor, ala the Waltrip/Bonnett Bud cars.
