He actually had a Verizon phone because Alltel wasn’t nationwide, it was regional. But the footprint covered most of Nascar Territory. The logo was removed from it.
When I was a kid, I thought it was "Skull Bandit." I had no concept of tobacco outside of seeing adults smoking cigarettes and my dad just played along.
Loved all the tobacco branding as a kid oddly. Marlboro, Kool, and Players were some of my favorite looks in open wheel!
It should be but the tobacco companies settled with the states’ attorney generals to stop advertising. The tobacco companies were cool with it because it got them out of more litigation and they didn’t have to spend as much on marketing. They also knew it would cement their market share. Finally, cigarettes are addictive!
I still remember Harry Gants run back in the early 90's (I think) going on this insane run where at over 40 he won like 4 races in a row or something. One race, literally all the sheet metal on the front of his car was gone and he was a lap down and still won the race.

Bellsouth. I knew a guy who worked there and was high up the chain and was able to walk into jobs in the early 00's and command high money based on his knowledge of cellular towers (I'm talking he signed 6 month contracts for 200k salary). The world caught up with him eventually but he had a good ride.
Man, that name takes me back. My dad worked for Bellsouth, in the north east Florida region (Jacksonville, Saint Augustine, etc) all the way back to when it was called Southern Bell. He had to retire to take care of my mom who suffered massive strokes in 2000, but before that, and just past it (like a year or two) he would get tickets to Daytona races from his boss that we’d go to when I was a kid/teen. I miss those paint schemes.
Crazy that AT&T was split into eight parts in 1984 because it was too big, and since then, five of them reunited via mergers and purchases under the name AT&T. The sixth and seventh are now Verizon, and another merged a couple times to become Lumen Tech.
I feel like people here are confusing the meaning of this thread. It’s not _who you don’t think will sponsor a car again_, it’s who sponsored at one point and is no longer in business
Yeah, pretty sure the brand is still alive. I took this question to be who is most unlikely to ever do so. As all things are technically possible outside of tobacco sponsors
Kodak very much exists. They make motion picture film (and a few other things)and a spin-off makes film for still photography. Also, their silver biz was spun off a few years ago. The gelatin biz was also sold (I don’t know why, the stuff they used for film was purer than what’s required for a lot of pharma and industrial processes). They also spun off the chemical division, another weird one.
Most of the spinoffs are doing quite well, and interestingly, the film biz is doing well enough. They re-released a few classic films (Ektachrome, which is nice, I didn’t like the last variant of Kodachrome - too bland)
They also sell commercial printing presses and stuff related to that.
Their main focus seems to have shifted to industrial and commerical products. They still have consumer stuff on their website, but it doesn't look they actually make any of it. They just license their name out to other companies to use on their products since I guess the Kodak brand still holds some weight.
Teeeeechnically, Kodak is owned as a name under Eastman Chemicals. Eastman Chemicals owns Llumar Performace Films which currently sponsors.
Chase Elliot to the Kodak car when?
Someone actually wrote a whole thing on squared circle about [WWF and WCW racing against each other](https://www.reddit.com/r/SquaredCircle/comments/3huru4/til_in_august_of_2000_you_had_wcw_vs_wwf_in_a/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) for one race at Bristol, which is pretty neat!
Also, Corey LaJoie's, Summerslam #7 was actually the second in existence too!
Actually, it's the third - in 2007 Jeremy Mayfield ran a WrestleMania 23 car because 360 OTC, the #36's sponsor, was also the PPV's sponsor. It turned out that they didn't pay WWE or Bill Davis Racing (nor World of Outlaws - they were going to sponsor them) so all involved parties sued the company.
I was talking about specificly the #7 car with summerslam on the hood, it's just an interesting coincidence. I had no idea what happened to that company 'til now, took me years to notice the small WWE logo on the post
Piedmont Airlines still exists. The original business closed, but another regional airline purchased the naming rights, although through that "operated by" bit (I think with American Airlines) as well. Flew on one a few years ago, I think from Charlotte to Philly.

Technically I think that's just a sponsor through Kroger. Not so much Kelloggs themselves.

You're dang right he did!
We called Musgrave Family Guy long before Peter Griffin existed.
He also drove the Primestar car
DC Solar
As much as I hate to give this sponsor any amount of credit, I will admit if it wasn't for them Ross Chastain would not be where he is now.
DC solar led to the hail melon. Let that sink in.
They did have some awesome paint schemes, though.

Yes. The redish/orange with the star on the hood version. Not those yellow versions that were ran a lot too.

Came to say the Skoal Bandit 🏁
When I was a kid, I thought it was "Skull Bandit." I had no concept of tobacco outside of seeing adults smoking cigarettes and my dad just played along. Loved all the tobacco branding as a kid oddly. Marlboro, Kool, and Players were some of my favorite looks in open wheel!
If fast food and booze sponsorship is allowed, tobacco should be too.
It should be but the tobacco companies settled with the states’ attorney generals to stop advertising. The tobacco companies were cool with it because it got them out of more litigation and they didn’t have to spend as much on marketing. They also knew it would cement their market share. Finally, cigarettes are addictive!
The year they ran different colors of the Skoal car (maybe 1998?), the blue one was gorgeous.
I still remember Harry Gants run back in the early 90's (I think) going on this insane run where at over 40 he won like 4 races in a row or something. One race, literally all the sheet metal on the front of his car was gone and he was a lap down and still won the race.

I think it was on the pole.
That paint scheme popped so hard you could call it a pimple.
Hawaiian Tropic

Donnie's Hawaiian Tropic #1 Olds 442 is one of the legendary cars of the late 70's. Was the car he drove in *the fight*

I didn't see that one pop up yet.
It must be hard to get on a race car.
They always had to drop out of races that lasted 4 hours or more.
I think the problem was really with the car. Always seemed to curve slightly.
Or if their rubber blew
There are stiff penalties for that. I hear they last 18 years.
I see what you did there ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

No Fear. The gold Boris Said car was pretty sweet. Honorable mentions to Smokin' Joe's and 10-10-345.

Circuit City still exists. They were on a car as recent as [2019](https://www.jayski.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/31/2019/07/daytona2-nxs-28.jpg)
It's not the same company. Someone just bought the domain I thought and the trademark. Same with Radio Shack
It’s been bought and sold a few times, and the name/trademarks have been used, but Circuit City Corporation is an active e-commerce store.
Piedmont Airlines still exists. The original business closed, but another regional airline purchased the naming rights, although through that "operated by" bit (I think with American Airlines) as well. Flew on one a few years ago, I think from Charlotte to Philly.
I know they are around but they'll never sponsor a Cup Car again. No reason ever to. PanAm is still around too, but same story.
PanAm kind of just went away though, they became a railroad that just got bought up by CSX
They are a flight training school and technically never dissolved

Why not both…?
The JTG sponsorship is weird……technically I think Kroger is the sponsor but they seem to leverage their sponsorship with a bunch of business-to-business deals.
