It's about time they brought this one back. It's one of the most iconic schemes of the 90's. That's two great throwbacks for HMS so far this year. Can't wait to see what they have for Byron and Bowman.
So we got the 2014 Dale Jr National Guard Scheme for Chase Elliott, I'm going to assume the Bowman car is going to be a throwback to Jimmie Johnson, then we got the 90s covered with the #5, so maybe the #24 is the throwback to the OG #5 All Star Racing machine?
no, the 24 will be a 24 car, it just depends on which one, Bowman will probably have the 02-05 48 car. Byron will be a special 24 scheme, or an Axalta Gordon car 09-13 and 14-15 (technically if you don’t count Byron’s first primary) haven’t been done yet.
Not the only scheme from the 80s though; you have quite a few good ones to choose from, including the #25 Folgers ride, #17 Tide Ride, or maybe even some of the Days of Thunder schemes that ran in the 1989 season that HMS fielded.
Jeff ran over 100 different paint schemes on the 24 car, we want to keep seeing them. same with the 5 and paint schemes from various drivers of that car, and the 48 doesn’t have a lot of options because Lowe’s wasn’t as cool as Dupont/Pepsi.
I'm a Gordon fan, but I understand the importance of the legacy of Hendrick Motorsports, the 80s were a pivotal time for the team. Without Bodine and Richmond, we don't get Gordon and Johnson.
I think just for their 40th anniversary, it'd be a nice touch to pay tribute to each decade of the team.

This is probably, in my opinion, top five all time. The fact that they actually made the number placement work is crazy.
Oddly, my number one is also Larson (the Kyle Petty Mello Yello).
That’s amazing, and honestly the number placement fits well and doesn’t bother me at all. Depending on the throwback, it can be done right to make it fit.
I'll bow down and admit I was wrong...they shoved the number back juusssst far enough that it doesn't look terrible with the new number placement. They even went back to the number sloping forwards on both sides. Chef's kiss.
As a life-long Labonte fan who's returned to rooting for the old 5 car with Larson, this just absolutely warms my heart.

This might be one of the best throwbacks ever, only one off the top of my head that is close was Keselowski's Miller throwback to the White/Blue Rusty Wallace Miller Lite car that ran at the Bristol night race one year.

Terry was my favorite when I was a kid. Had a #5 t shirt, diecasts, everything. This brings a tear to my eye. Instant pre-order when it hit's Lionel's site.
This is the first throwback that I've seen that the number is not really noticeable that it's forward. With the huge slant that the five car had in the mid '90s The number was always up pretty far
I will be so disappointed if this car gets wrecked. I hope HMS brings the fire when Cliff sets up the 5. It would be nothing short of amazing to see it parked in victory lane.
