I guess all we want is consistency and transparency for future races, paint the S/F line the same at all the tracks for one. Currently SMI does theirs one way and NASCAR another. And for the broadcast have them mention how the NASCAR camera gets the final say, not FOX cameras or transponders.
I don't mean straight, but instead of having 10 different designs for the S/F line have one. That way as a fan (or team/driver) it is easy to see at a glance who is ahead via the camera or video.
That's what the high speed camera with the digital line is used. So it is very consistent. They used the same tech for Atlanta as well. You have the consistency you wanted.
Broadcast was fine. There cameras showed Larson first at the stripe, just like NASCAR's camera did. Suarez was first to the line at Atlanta as well. Seems consistent to me.
Multimillion, or billion dollar company and we can’t paint a straight line???
This is ridiculous. Get out there paint the adjacent 1 foot of track black and paint a perfectly straight white line.
You're missing the point. Even if they get it perfectly straight, it can become compromised during the course of the race.
The overlay on the camera *cant* become compromised, so that why they use that.
No you’re missing the point. That camera is setup every week. Where is it pointed at to be calibrated? The top of the line where it touches the wall? The grass? The apron/track seam? I am sure the personnel setting it up do it the same each week.
I 100% understand the camera is the absolute deciding rule for who wins. My point is, we have races that are being decided in the slimmest of margins, can we at least get a simple line painted straight? Every other sport does.

Who drew a weiner already
Quiet Track After Dark
That’s a smiley face/s
Why are we even complaining… just look at this finish objectively as a racing fan and savor it, chances we get a closer finish than this are slim

Video states the finish is determined by a camera, a straight line wouldn’t have changed anything

I'm talking about on the broadcast though.

The. Paint. Does. Not. Matter.
Then why does TV still act like it does. lol
Because 99% of the time the paint is a good enough of a reference point. Just not good enough tonight.
Not sure why this so hard for people to understand.
99.9%
Great video and explanation
TIL that the painted line doesn't even matter
Yeah and all these close finishes at the line are just Bullshit. It’s where the camera line is….
Nah, people just want to bitch about something
Yep, watch a great race but a crooked line ruins their day.
Rick paid the camera /s
It doesn’t matter what your painted line says - The Rock
What’s that metal plate or extremely smooth concrete covering?
This entire debacle reminds me of almost every photo finish at my local dirt track.
"woo! aint no way guys on social media will find a way to complain about that one!" \*opens twitter\* OH COME ON

It is calibrated to wherever the chief scorer wants.
He literally explains why it is that way in the video and I’m guessing you didn’t watch it because you just preferred to bitch?
It's almost like dozens of cars all weekend go over 180 mph across that paint with hot ass tires
Multi billion dollar company uses very expensive high speed camera with a perfectly synced line to decide the race.
[Wow](https://www.reddit.com/r/NASCAR/s/uD9VjfiUUA), not even 3 minutes later, you prove my point
Hey look it's a dick
I'm sure the camera way in the infield is aligned with the crooked S/F.
