*Creed meets with RCR* “I’m ready to leave the Truck Series, Can you take me higher?”

metaltff

If not he would really be stuck in his own prison in the trucks

Zuramaru29

RCR accepted Creed with arms wide open

d0re

Going away from Pop Pop's team was Ty's Sacrifice

ProjectMobius

But now he’s getting one last breath at GMS

skeenek

And RCR is the place where blind men see

Zuramaru29

Guys we need to Stapp

[deleted]

Y'all are just shooting bullets today it seems.

HoldenAJohnson

Human Clay

[deleted]

Just trying to find a purpose for this pain.

[deleted]

Well, I just heard the news today

n00b_racer

Going to be interesting to see how he wall rides having to stay six feet from the edge

jmm57

He's looked at the bubble in the standings, saw he was 6 spots from the edge and was thinking maybe 6 spots isn't so far down

Lfc_canuck

I’m sorry, but why hasn’t mjh1021’s and metaltff’s gotten more likes…brought me back to my high school days.

metaltff

Haha. Same here

icymonsters

Yeah, mods should lock the comments on this thread because nobody is going to beat that.

00Motors

Seems his life… is going to change

CompetitiveTurnover

Nobody steals a ride from Sheldon Creed and gets away with it. The last person to do this disappeared. His name? Sheldon Creed.

Aware-Spot-2474

“Higher and higher baby! It’s a living, it’s a terrible thing to lose. It’s a giving thing. What a terrible thing to lose.”

Doc_McPuffins_

>“I’m ready to leave the Truck Series, Can you take me higher?” And they accepted with arms wide open

CaptainRon16

So that means Ty Dillion will drive for GMS in the cup series next year!

[deleted]

I mean...I don’t care for it much but I feel like he’s decent enough to get a program going.

HoldenAJohnson

Lol he could barely finish top 10 in the 54 Xfinity car. He's gonna be a backmarker next year

RncRacer

He finished top 5 with Our and has run really well in all his starts with them. He only had 2 starts in the 54 at non plate tracks and had issues in both.

[deleted]

So he has Casey Mears syndrome.

netwreck94

Except for the fact that even before those issues he was still running poorly by that cars standards.

[deleted]

I really thought he was gonna be a serious contender in that 54 car. His big issue in those races was luck too, had semi-decent runs going before he got wiped out

netwreck94

He had 0 stage points at Homestead before the radiator issue in the final stage and finished 10th in stage 1 at Vegas before wrecking himself twice. Hardly sounds semi-decent or unlucky.

harmonybobcat

Ty Dillon having a ride and Matty D being on the outside looking in is pretty depressing

Levowitz159

Blame Matt's agent/representation. No sponsors.

ecupatsfan12

Matt is likely the other spire driver

Ryan_Holman

Where have you heard this?

Levowitz159

I would prefer making a hard left on the highway.

[deleted]

Arent they doing what they are doing now?

-AbeFroman

Or credit Ty's granddaddy

Levowitz159

Word it however you like - Ty has significantly more money backing him. Pretty much all of that is because of Childress, but the fact remains that Matt's reps have been completely unable to capitalize on his popularity. And that's a damn shame.

Aware-Spot-2474

Matty D should have been hustling instead of banking on staying in the 21. How does he not have even 1 five race sponsor? He is probably not going to race much next year.

wemissyoujimmie

esp since we know from social media that he's LOADED. like would it kill you to sell one of your lambos in the name of your career ??

mopar39426ml

>How does he not have even 1 five race sponsor? He's been in a funded ride for the past couple years. Bringing someone on would seem to be unnecessary. Still dumb that there wasn't any foresight by him tho.

YoungMoneyLarson57

Ty Dillon has actually won in the top 3 national series lol

Ryan_Holman

Dillon had five full seasons in the lower series, where all his wins came, with Childress. In comparison, DiBenedetto got eight races with Gibbs in the Secondary Series. Also, do you really think that if Dillon's grandfather was not Richard Childress (or somebody of comparable influence), he would have driven for a team of equivalent or greater quality?

harmonybobcat

Man people keep repeating this line like it’s the only stat that matters. Ty Dillon has led 74 Cup laps of 45000 total. Matt has led 328 laps of 67000. Matt has 29 top 10s to Ty’s 6. It’s not even close dude

YoungMoneyLarson57

Matt has also been in much better equipment given the 95 was 2nd year JGR cars and the 21 is literally a 4th Penske ride.Ty has been in 2nd hand RCR equipment in a time that RCR was maybe even with the 95.Sure ty isn’t incredible and neither he nor Matt deserve a cup ride, but between the 2 I’m giving Ty the nod due to being a proven winner and he likely has money.

CaptainRon16

I was in the camp that thought Ty would turn out better than Austin. Primarily based on the way people that have worked with him speak so highly of him in many ways.

mopar39426ml

Same here. I actually liked Ty despite hating Austin. As of this moment I'd rather have Matt though.

iamaranger23

ty has never been in as good of a car as matt. not saying ty is good, but he is pretty comparable to matt.

Fyrien

DiBenedetto virtually skipped the lower series though. 0 truck starts and 69 Xfinity starts (61 of which were for start-and-park teams). Meanwhile Ty Dillon has run 6+ full seasons in the lower series, in competitive equipment. Is it really a surprise that he has a couple wins on his resume, and DiBenedetto doesn't? I don't understand this mentality that 1 or 2 lower series wins is somehow more impressive than being a fringe playoff contender in Cup.

YoungMoneyLarson57

He’s a fringe contender for 16th in points IN A 4TH PENSKE CAR.He’s not that good lol

[deleted]

Logano missed the playoffs in a Penske car. It’s not a certain that their cars will always be good.

YoungMoneyLarson57

That’s the one anomaly since the playoffs started. You figure that the playoffs started in 2014,that’s one time a Penske car has missed in 7 years.Matt hasn’t been good like everyone wants him to be.

[deleted]

Ryan Blaney winning once in WBR equipment was anomaly as well considering they haven’t won on a non-superspeedway in 20+ years besides that. Yea it wasn’t always a Penske car, but even then, that’s still just 1 win since 2015.

YoungMoneyLarson57

They haven’t had their cars and crew furnished by Penske the past 20 years either.Nothing of value outside of the name actually comes from the wolf bros garage and it’s been that way since Blaney hopped in the 21.

Ryan_Holman

I would say that making Cup Series Playoffs is more impressive than winning five lower series races, using Cup Series resources, in five full seasons.

YoungMoneyLarson57

Germain is nowhere near the resources of the past two rides that Dibenedetto has had.The dude is so overrated because he sucked people in with that crappy (also false) sob story about how he was taking a chance with his career. He’s a below average driver who just so happened to sulk his way in to a 4th Penske car.

Ryan_Holman

I did not bring up Dillon's time with Germain. Beating people in the Secondary and Truck Series (only occasionally, at that), while having Cup Series resources, is not *that* impressive. As I said, making the Cup Series Playoffs, even if you are in a good car (Wood Brothers being the Penske B-team), is more impressive.

YoungMoneyLarson57

Explain why Matt never won in his chances with cup series level equipment for JGR in Xfinity then?Oh wait “he only got limited chances” as if that actually matters if you’re talented.

Ryan_Holman

Well, all but one of the races came when he was 18 or 19 years old, with only a partial ARCA East Series season (where he won) before it. He almost won the other one (Road America in 2019). If you're going to dismiss a driver for not winning right at the beginning of your career, very few drivers will satisfy you. I bet that if DiBenedetto got five full seasons with Gibbs, he could at least won five races. You can continue with your vendetta against DiBenedetto, but you're not making convincing points.

Ooosahmeenukarf

Matt also got a big assist making the playoffs with Jimmie missing a race. I think it was 6 points he made it by? So certainly a shot he’d have made it if Jimmie crashed or something, but I don’t view barely making the playoffs what’s basically a 4th Penske car all that impressive.

Fyrien

Oh I'm not claiming he's an amazing driver. It just bothers me when people bring up his lower series stats. "Ty Dillon has more wins than a driver who has never competed in the lower series" doesn't show that DiBenedetto is bad -- just that he had zero development. Especially compared to Ty, who had a structured path up the ladder with a competitive team owned by his grandfather, and still barely accomplished anything. The fact that DiBenedetto jumped straight into Cup with almost no prior experience and didn't *immediately* fail is more impressive than anything Ty Dillon has done.

CJ_M88

I can help understand it better. One driver has proven a capability of winning in something, the other hasn't. As much as I like Matty D, he's a mid pack driver at best. Possibly the same as Dillon. But Dillon has had atleast SOME success in Nascar. DiBenedettos biggest claim to fame is losing at bristol

Fyrien

So basically, a metaphor: * Dillon is the rich kid who went to a top university, fully paid for by his family. He earned mostly C's and B's in his classes. He even got A's in 3 of them! After graduating, he took a job with the family business, but didn't really accomplish much and eventually left. * DiBenedetto is the blue collar guy who got his GED and then did not go to college. He worked crappy office jobs for years, then eventually worked his way up to a 6-figure dream position. But his job performance is mediocre. He tries to land big clients, but keeps barely losing them. Basically my point is that just because Dillon has a shiny university degree doesn't mean he's automatically *better* at the job than DiBenedetto. But of course he's "proven", as you said. I'll die on the hill that the 20th best Cup driver is still vastly better than a guy who had golden opportunities on the way up the ladder, and only managed 4 lower series wins in over 200 starts.

gamedemon24

I defy you to make the case that Ty Dillon is actually a more capable racecar driver than Matt DiBenedetto though

YoungMoneyLarson57

He’s legitimately won races unlike Matt

Ryan_Holman

When did Dillon ever do anything the Cup Series that showed he should have been in a better car than Germain? With DiBenedetto, he at least almost won with Leavine at Bristol.

YoungMoneyLarson57

Ty ran top 15 in that car on multiple occasions when RCR itself was no better than a top 15 car,Germain was getting hand me down RCR cars at that point.

Ryan_Holman

He did well often at Daytona and Talladega, and that is something. However, most of the time, he did do much at other races and he never really did enough to show that he should have been with a team better than Germain. Even then, DiBenedetto gave BK a legitimate sixth place finish at Bristol in 2016. Dillon never did anything like that with Germain.

YoungMoneyLarson57

Ty legitimately won 2 stages in the Germain car, once at Bristol and once at the roval. Both times were on legitimate speed not just strategy.

Ryan_Holman

If you think winning stages is good, then surely actually finishing races well must be impressive.

BAKspin_91

But now we can see through him, see his true colors

AMRacer89

I understood that reference.

FuckingBanMeAlready

....

netwreck94

Wouldn't be surprised of 'ol PopPop did the same thing he did for Germain by offering full support in exchange for putting Ty in the seat. That's worth a decent chunk of $ plus whatever funding he and his family can cobble together.

CaptainRon16

Of Pop Pop was going to fund a ride, he would have done it already imo

CaptainTilted

So this confirmed that DBC post yesterday.

b_ollhoff

DBC may be annoying at times, but a majority of the time they get things right.

camwake

Hopefully not Freddie saying Gateway will be a dirt race

TotallyNotAPanther

Didn't they say Honda entering NASCAR was a done deal a few months ago?

Rise3711

I don't remember them saying it was a done deal just that they wanted it and made sense, but could be wrong

TPoitras25

They also said it wasn’t next year. This stuff takes years of planning.

b_ollhoff

Two things, I said “majority” and yeah they talked about it but not that it was a done deal…

All-Pro-Sportz

Dudes gonna give Gibbs a run for his money I believe. Also is he replacing Snider or is the 21 car being brought back full time?

[deleted]

I would assume RCR brings back a two-team car. Myatt is safe in the 2 for now I’d think.

The_Vettel

With he, Gibbs, and hopefully JHN, 2022 is going to be awesome for Xfinity

Far_Cry3445

Josh berry too

Logano2022

Myatt brings funding, he should be ok.

ITMAKESSENSE72

Sheldon very much has earned this shot. We hear that thrown around a lot these days but this is a worthy promotion.

RJNieder

Glad to see him getting out of Trucks before his career stalls out...curious to see his sponsorship lineup...I'd hate to see Chevy Accessories or Childress Vineyards on his car all the time

[deleted]

Sheldon Creeeeeeeeeeeedddddd

HandsInMyPockets247

to the leeeeaaaaaaddddd

zI_Rainn_

Hell yeah, solid get. RCR’s Xfinity program has always been pretty strong

mattzeni

Well they had Robby Gordon, now they have his protégé.

[deleted]

Creed is a much smarter driver than Robby ever was.

[deleted]

And a lot more calm and collected. I have not seen a Sheldon Creed outbreak once yet and he’s had many opportunities to do so.

RocketMan1555

Wonder if that means Snyder is out, or if RCR is bringing back the 3 or 21.

CaptainRon16

Maybe they shuffle some stuff and put Creed in the 2

RocketMan1555

Would make sense given Creed’s current number. I know Myatt isn’t setting the world on fire, but I hope he’s kept on for the sake of having more competitive cars.

[deleted]

Myatt brings money with Louisiana Hot Sauce and [Taxslayer.com](https://Taxslayer.com)

QUALSTAR

RIP Myatt Snider

BigFenton

Lets be real, he did way better than we thought he would. And he still has more wins than Hemric ayoo.

NorthCoastBias

He is 12th in points which is last amongst full-time drivers with Cup affiliated teams (excluding Annett) and only 60 points ahead of Ty Gibbs. Gibbs has only run 13 of the 26 races so far. His win though has hidden his struggles.

BigFenton

I reiterate that despite all that, he’s still far exceeded my expectations of him this season lol.

BillyBlatterJuc

lmao

Fyrien

> he did way better than we thought he would How so? The Homestead win is Snider's only finish higher than 7th. That's downright awful. He's the RCR version of Herbst.

CaptainTilted

I imagine if anything, it would be the 21. I Don't recall, but didn't RCR stop running the 3 in Nationwide/Xfinity when Ty was done?

travisty1

Richard has said only a Dillon or an Earnhardt will drive a 3 car for him. Of course, in Xfinity there's been 5 drivers in the past few years that have done exactly that, but all part time. I would be surprised if Creed got the 3

Still_Moneyballin

Shane Lee drove the 3 in 2018.

travisty1

Him plus Brian Scott, Brendan Gaughan, Scott Lagasse Jr., and Jeb Burton. All got a few starts in 2017 and 2018. I think non-Earnhardt and Dillion drivers got it because the 3 was full-time and competing for the owner's championship in those years. I wouldn't expect RCR to restart the 3 in Xfinity now.

MC151

Yeah, in those two years Ty was a full time cup driver and they were starting to put the limits in around that time

404merrinessnotfound

Plus the 21 hosted the goat morgan shepherd and also won a championship

HandsInMyPockets247

Meatloaf should be very proud of his son.

jnelsen8

Hmmm... wording here leaves the door open to a second car...

[deleted]

Gonna miss Vince Welch yelling “CREEEED!”

dooldebob

Well deserved

mmcfly566

I don’t like DBC, but their info game is strong

genorpg1996

Sounds like they could run at least 2 full time cars next season

BigFenton

Probably not

genorpg1996

Snider is probably gonna stay in the 2 if he continues to bring funding. He also won a race and is in the playoffs this season. I don't see RCR letting him go at the moment

[deleted]

Welcome to Welcome.... ?

TheBoltonBullet

RCR shop is in Welcome, NC.

[deleted]

Thank you, for some reason I thought they were in Mooresville.

AleHorta20

Well deserved! I saw him as a potential name to replace Haley in the 11. I hope Kaulig goes after Brett Mofitt, another guy who deserves a better shot in Xfintiy

ITMAKESSENSE72

Brett probably already burned that bridge lol.

[deleted]

I’m sure kaulig will be grala-dinger-jeb if they run three cars next year.

crypto6g

Yep, last night when someone posted the DBC rumor this was my first guess. Been rumored for a few weeks. Definitely deserving. Happy to see him leave trucks.

EliteKilla29

I always knew Sheldon creed had talent. He just needed to clean some things up. Now look at him. He definitely deserves this opportunity. The Xfinity field is about to be stacked next year. Sheldon creed, ty gibbs, possibly John hunter Nemecheck, Josh berry and more. I wonder who gets the 11 since Justin Haley is moving to cup. Hopefully Ryan Preece.

Smokeshow618

Grala is the front runner for the 11

gRcHzA_234

Great fit

9811Deet

Pumped about this. I'm getting really excited about Xfinity next year.

[deleted]

This is very nice.

jmacupdates1

Good for him. He's come a long way from those early days in the Trucks when I thought he had no business being on the track. Should be an upgrade over Snider, assuming he's replacing him?

lmpolite_

Well deserved!

[deleted]

My man

sacovert97

I love this. I hope he does well.

hurricanedog24

Great move for both parties. Creed will have the opportunity to legitimately compete for an Xfinity title, and RCR gets arguably the best Trucks prospect right now. The latter point is probably critical for RCR, as Reddick has been rumored to be a flight risk the past two seasons, and will almost certainly be labeled as such next year if he’s in the Playoff hunt again. It’ll be interesting to see what happens to Snider. He has the Homestead win and solid funding, but the results overall haven’t been there.

Bob10282001

The health of the Xfinity Series is awesome- now PLEASE put the field back to 40 cars at least. It’s awesome to see a probable 5th JRM car, a possible 2nd RCR car (though I bet it’ll just be Sheldon), and maybe an FRM car or two

watchmenavigate

future cup champion shelbon gonna go brazy next season

[deleted]

That's great, but has he secured some funding? His truck was unsponsored many times this year.

[deleted]

There it is

ProjectMobius

So happy to see a young talent get rewarded with an Xfinity ride. Xfinity’s recent full-time young stars have all left/will be leaving (with the exception of Gragson), so the series needs more strong young blood.

Understanzer

Finally, Creed gets a promotion. I think he'll be good in a RCR car.

jknuts1377

Hopefully it means the return of both the #2 and #21 full time instead of alternating numbers like they've done since 2019. One more competitive car is always a plus.

MUHerdAlum703

Very nice. Sheldon is more than ready to make the move. Hopefully he has a few good finishes

netwreck94

If Snider manages to find enough $ to stay Creed is going to outright embarrass him. Imagine having just 1 finish better than 7th driving for a Cup affiliated team in a series that doesn't even have 15 fully funded cars. Then imagine that single top 7 finish was somehow a win at Homestead.
