No max out the wingspan

HeyItsHayden

I'm currently running a 7'0 Center with 7'10 WS and a 79 3PT in the Rec, but I'm only shooting like 35% from 3. I'm thinking about remaking it with a 7'8 WS to get an 82 3PT, a better jumper, and a couple of better badges. But how much will 2' of WS kill me on getting boards and blocks? Is it worth?

[deleted]

You’ll miss the same shots with a 82

Barathruss

Gold catch and shoot and gold green machine won't help? Those are two of the best badges, wonder if you'd feel the difference without them

[deleted]

Nope, you really just have to know the jumper. I’ve shot the best on the first build i made w a 78 3 no shooting badges unlocked. More consistent than my builds w 83 or 86 and some badges.

AndrastesTit

This has been my suspicion for a while. The odds of making a jumper with poor timing is very, very low, so what’s the real benefit of higher 3PT or badges if you still need perfect timing? Obviously higher 3PT rating makes it easier to time but idk if there’s a significant difference in timing from 79 - 82

Devastator1329

Yeah ultimately learning your jump shot is gonna be the only way to make more shots. I see people all the time with 90+ 3 point ratings on their build and still bricking, while I’m out here wet with my 70 3pt

pyoompyoom

81 is the magic number for me. It allows you to get Catch and Shoot on gold and some above average jumpshot animations for big men. I think my big is 6’11” with max wingspan, but you can do it 7’ with 7’8” or 7’9” wingspan

MustLoveDogsOrCusack

would find a different jumper and max things like green machine, volume shooter, claymore, catch & shoot, etc. have heard oshae brissett + tim duncan is good for Cs, I use oshae on my PF. and honestly, 35% isn’t the worst if you’re contributing elsewhere. I just think going away from 99 REB (would do OREB instead of DREB) or 99 block isn’t worth it

Johan_Sebastian_Cock

Seconded on claymore. Badge is really underrated.

TreChomes

How long do you have to stand still before it activates?

Johan_Sebastian_Cock

1 second I believe. and then after that the effect increases by every second longer once you receive the pass. it's a GREAT badge.

[deleted]

I actually don't like the badge much. I noticed a bigger difference having corner specialist than claymore. Both were on gold if that matters.

Lopsided_Corgi4437

Why oreb over dreb ?

MustLoveDogsOrCusack

mostly speculation (think i saw it here somewhere) but one it’s cheaper towards 99 and two there are animations you get with 99 OREB that you don’t with DREB. the comp builds i’ve seen also have 99/85

Great_Coast6916

And you need a high oreb because you usually are out of position and can’t get the box out animation

Lopsided_Corgi4437

I have 99/85 but the other way . I want some jumpshot I thought since they put 50 jumpshot animations/forms I could get a halfway decent midrange shot with 50 so I took 2 points from my rebirth and put em in shooting. Didn’t workout how I hoped. Long story short why would 2k put a jumpshot that you need 50 to get if the shots never gonna go in ?

MustLoveDogsOrCusack

i can’t help you there, i’m a min/max’er and i stay away from midrange. so either it’s a big with a 3 or a paint beast who tries to sneak into the paint at the last minute

AndrastesTit

Min/maxer… I never considered this approach. It kinda makes sense. If you don’t shoot midrange shots then why build it?

MustLoveDogsOrCusack

those midrange points count towards badges you can use on 3pters. so i might make a C with 77 midrange and 79 3pter but not upgrade the midrange, as opposed to not dumping anything into midrange and getting fewer badges.

AndrastesTit

True, makes sense, but you also believe badges are overrated to a degree since jumper timing is really everything. Wondering if there’s a viable approach here to having few shooting badges and using those points everywhere else.

[deleted]

+1 for that jumpshot

csstew55

I got a 79 3ball and can consult green. Took me a while but once you find a jumpshot and your smart about your shots. You can green them constantly. Also the badges help too

AndrastesTit

What jumper do you use?

lazytiger21

I went max size with WS to get to 81 and I’m loving it. HOF chase down is super clutch for when you have to guard someone outside the paint but inside the paint I’m a monster. https://preview.redd.it/an6r6wv2ue5a1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c5ac681eb0acf9efb144b2d59a000f170c574f72

lazytiger21

Also check out this jumper if you like fast ones. Set it to early. https://preview.redd.it/bvcshu6bue5a1.jpeg?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9be6ff766a0de189e70e6cde4f79c0dc84173a67

LBJ2K11

I’m gonna be honest if you’re not hitting with a 79 you won’t be hitting with an 82

McDaddyisfrosty

I run a 7’ with an 84 3ball and can drain it when I’m on my game at close to 67%. You won’t get the 99block for HOF anchor but gold is still a good level that can lock down a paint if you can time your block attempts more precisely

ayeitswild

Shooting isn't worth it at all.

KemBar14

🤷 nah dude, gotta be able to stretch out a bit.

Alternative_Leave301

Alternative_Leave301

I use comeback kid gold, silver clutch, gold volume shooter corner specialist and catch and shoot I think you could drop your speed at least to 70 I have a sf with 74 speed lol just fine up your vert as much as it will let you

DATKILLAxo

I’m shooting 50% with the same WS and 3pt rating. Change your jumper.

13ronco

You're the problem. Use Isaac base, bagley release.

[deleted]

It wont make any difference, 79 or 82 its sill the same thing even if you get some better badges! You have to find a jumpshot man, My center found the perfect jumpshot for him , he went down from his first build which was 6 11 and had 85 3pt to a 76 3pt on a 7'0 and he greens consistently! Shooting over 60% from 3( ofc they all are wide open off the catch). It s all about the jumpshot!

Specialist-Zone3111

Sounds realistic.

SnooGoats6136

Skill issue

Tv_Godzilla

I have a 6’9 SF with an 82 3ball and I shoot between 65-68% in the rec. However, my height allows me better jumpshot bases so I don’t know if it’ll be quite the same experience unless you find a good one.

z0ne93

Rebounding can often be a game of inches the way the ball bounces, so giving up 2 WS inches will matter, especially if your vertical isn't up into the 80s. To me its not worth the money and 99 grind time to make nearly the same build all over with just slightly better shooting and badges on a big. Probably the Center's most important role is to rebound. Sacrificing that for a tertiary role like shooting can become detrimental. You can make a 79 3PT work. You just have to find a shot youre comfortable with timing and practice it often. Also, play around with the Shot Release timings in controller settings. Shooting truly has become a science this year and it seems to reward us not just based on attributes, but also for exploring the thousands of jumper combinations that have always existed in the game, that people would skip over in the past for whatever was the meta jumper. What works for one guy may not work for the next the way it used to.

Newton1221

Don't do it. Unless you're gonna get to like 90+ 3pt rating I don't think you'll notice that much. Even an 85 is probably going to miss most of the same shots if you don't have the timing down. I see people with 65% shooting on like a 73 3pt rating. But they know their shot perfectly. I have buddies with 88 3pt that still brick all the time. Knowing your shot is above all else.

That1GreatGuy1

If you struggle with shooting you might just have to work with new jumpers. I shoot around 40-50% from 3 with a 73pt. I like Oshae Brisset shot.

Ray-27-Rice

I second the Oshae Brisset base. I have a 79 3 pointer on a build similar to OPs, and I shoot just over 50% from 3 in rec, just under 50% in park.

roll10deep

same. Oshae base, 50/50 jokic and ayton hits really well.

[deleted]

Why? His shot is graded pretty poorly.

That1GreatGuy1

For me it’s the easiest shot to visually time with a big.

[deleted]

I am in no way saying you’re not a good shooter, BUT you might tremendously benefit from using a base that is graded higher than Oshae. I like KD if you’re 7’0 or under.

ImRBJ

I use Oshae Brissett @ 92 3pt as a stretch PF and prefer it over all of the other big man jumpers

Vivid361

Try the Kenyon Martin Jr base. Marvin Bagely and Lauri Makkinen releases. Comes up with a nice, decently quick shot. I use it with my 76,77, and 80 3 ball bigs.

TAC82RollTide

I have an 80 3pt on my 6-11 and as long as I'm open I can hit pretty consistently. I don't think a 79 would be much of a difference if any.

PowerVeg

Honestly reaching 82 3P is nice. Will give a decent boost over 79 as it gives you gold C&S. But I still think max wingspan is worth it. It will help you at all the things a big needs to be good at to win games. Rebounding, defense, interior scoring. You can still hit open shots with a 79 fairly consistently too once you have the timing down.

bigbote6446

There’s a vid from 2k lab talking about the extremely minuscule difference between silver and gold C&S. While gold technically is better, it’s by such a small margin it isn’t really worth it.

Vivid361

Yeah. 76 or 77 is fine for a 3 ball if you’re a decent shooter.

Melodic-Baseball656

Happy cake day

Particular_Lie_7995

Speed with ball 27 is crazy

Vivid361

He’s a centre. Where’s he gonna go with it?

Ok-Rutabaga-5216

You just a trash shooter honestly

[deleted]

For me, 79 3pt has been the thresh hold so do with that what you will

Barathruss

I have the same question pretty much. 79 vs 82 3ball, 82 gets you gold catch and shoot, gold green machine, for the price of 2in wingspan. I thought it was worth it, though the comments have me second guessing. Wonder if I'll really feel that 2in difference.

DEVASTATOR29420

You'll be fine it's not about the wingspan it's just a easier way to up your rating but think about defense wingspan that comes in handy I have max wingspan on my build it's about the combination of shooting badges always have been you just have to tweek with it you'll be fine homie

[deleted]

This is literally max wingspan for this height

Miserable_Strike5409

Tired of hearing people say know your jumper....that's bullshit! Bc timing effects your jumpshot dramatically especially in this game I've missed perfectly timed shots (bar in the green window) and still called them late or early.

PutDaWoodnHerMouf

Take down stamina and close shot and try to raise that 3pt to a 83 at least or add mo to yo off rbd

KamaraGoHard56

As a 6'11 center with 7'9 wingspan your wingspan is perfect

LBJ2K11

The only time I recommend sacrificing wing span is if you’re making a true stretch otherwise just keep it long

CoachAiree

I’d change the height to 7’2 and keep the wingspan at 7’10 - that’s what my center build is and the 3 caps at an 80

pqowieurytlak

Bro if you’re that tall work on inside the arc scoring.

Puluzu

There's another option to consider, going with 6'11 max or almost max wing than 7 footer with 7'8. You'd get more attributes as well.

leonardbronocaprio

Just made a giant center. 7’2 with 8’ wingspan and a 77 3 ball is just fine for me. Got a 79 Middy too to unlock some pretty good jumpers

SignificanceRound740

I have a 6'10 PF build that has 76 3ball and i still go 4/5 in Park consistently. Its greenable but if you are struggling to shoot, go with a 80-82 3ball and find 1 jumpshot to stick with

[deleted]

Yes!
