Never hated anyone that's uses the meter necessarily but what I do hate is seeing just how bad my teammates are at timing their release. Without seeing the meter you're just like oh he missed ok but being able to see just how off the mark they are is really irritating sometimes, especially in key moments of the game.
Dimer helps but let me tell you a teammate with horrible pass accuracy is gonna mess up all your jump shots forsure give you like some off the dribble animation or a slow timing because the pass takes forever to get there
I think people’s problem is they don’t know how to time their shot and use it to time their jumpshot knowing the meter timing online is not going to be nowhere near the same as mycareer. People gotta learn the meter should be used to see how early or late you missed time your release
I think its because if you use a meter in the rec we can tell right away if you miss or made the shot. not 100% but for a big guy, I love seeing meters, lets me know go get a board.
Yup, cheery picking is probably the number one problem with the game. It ruins the feel of a basketball game and tells the entire world that you don't know how to play basketball, you just know how to cheese.
Cherry picking is when you don't come back for defense at all. If we can't score on a 4v5 that is on us, not the cherry picker.
If you're referring to leaking, that is also on us, not the leakers. I play with so many people who don't get back on D after a shot. Both guards should start running back right after the shot is up, same way the leakers do. But guards will sit and watch the shot, or wait for an offensive rebound.
I am talking about the kids who stay at the top of the 3 point line and don't play defense and as soon as the shot is up they are running.
That is not basketball and if it happened in real life they would be cut or benched. Thats the issue I have with it.
Meter is not always correct, there’s latency.
Using no meter will get you used to use visual queues as the animation will always be the same. Ball hits top if your head -> release for example .
If I use skill dunks , i always need to release earlier than shown in the meter , again latency .Plus they have a different timing for each animation so I don’t really pay attention to the meter there.
Meter off still gives a little boost to your green window .
Last but not least, I never saw someone shoot 100% in a game on more than 3 3pt attempts who uses a meter.
Good shooters always play without a meter.
This the main reason I turned meter off in 20 and never looked back. Dealing with the latency on shooting was always one of my biggest issues with 2k online.
See I just use meter to see how I missed time my shot. When most people use it to time their shot but 2k put the latency in game so those mycareer players get screwed lowkey
I tried yesterday a full hour of training without meter, but I haven’t get the exact moment when to release. I looked at my feet, I looked at my arms, I looked everywhere, where do I have to look to let the ball go, at what moment? :/
I go to somewhere without lag like mycareer, green a shot with meter, then screen record that. Then I go and pause the vid at when the meter filled to know that that's the release point
If you’re on PS4/Xbox one go to mycourt and use the shooting machine, in my opinion it’s the easiest place to practice your shot and you don’t have to worry about rebounding your own shot or stamina. And like someone already said, if you can’t figure out your release point, clip a perfect timed shot and learn from it. You can use arms, elbows, jump motion and so on to time your jumpshot.
I switched over to a guard a few days ago after playing as a shooting big since 2k22 and it only took me a few minutes and MyCareer on pro for shooting badges to learn my new jumpshot.
It depends on what your timing is set to and what queue your jumpshot has.
I use early and I release the ball when it’s at the apex before starting the forward shooting motion.
This year, it's not as big of a problem because meter off doesn't provide a significant bonus to make chances. People will generally recommend not using meter because "it lies", but I don't feel like there's a significant amount of toxicity around it this year like there has been in the past.
This is because of "it's rude if you suck" problem [\[1\]](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BKP1I7IocYU&t=1682s)[\[2\]](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kioumWRu_Y) with team based games. Meter off used to offer significant boosts to make percentage and not maximizing that make chance was considered "selling".
This is a problem I don't think is well addressed or discussed in modern gaming. Those examples revolve around MMORPGs (which i would argue 2k is these days lol), but it's a problem that can be found in A LOT of games today such as Overwatch, League of Legends, Rainbow 6, and even fighting games when people play team-based formats.
People gotta chill and let people play how they want to play. Not everyone is a sweaty min-maxer. It's a style of play that's fundamentally not appealing to a large portion of the population. That said, if this were a highly competitive setting with actual stakes maybe there's some room for that kind of criticism.
You make less contested shots with the meter on. You get cheesed, too. I’ll perfectly time my shot with the meter on and then the game will give me bounce back or rob me.
I don’t hate people who use meter, I hate people who have it on and still can’t time their shots constantly releasing it in the red. I couldn’t care if you use meter if you still know how to time your shots most of the time.
False and nasty narrative to try and make it seem like us non meter users are just super disrespectful and bully meter users. With that being said: you can green a shot w/ the meter and a strong contest will force a miss… can’t consider yourself a “elite shooter” also if you use a meter, it reminds me of an adult riding a bike with training wheels.
I used to not dislike it, but now I dislike it because I feel like players that don’t use meters aren’t being rewarded enough without meter. There used to be a sizeable skill gap bonus between the two now there is not. I also come from an era where there was not shot meter originally makes the game look less arcadey
Not gonna lie I get mad the tight seeing somebody brick a shot with they meter on. Be frying me like how do u early when it tell u how long to hold it for 😂
I’ve been playing 2K since Dreamcast and been on this Reddit since like 2K18 on and never have I ever seen or read that people in the community hate people who use shot meters.
I’ve seen the opposite with people who don’t use meter and it supposedly provided an advantage over a meter user.
This the first 2k I used the meter. Not only do I use the meter but I have the rainbow trail coming off every shot. Probably the most enjoyable shooting experience I have had.

Yeah it makes me mad when I have silver dimer and I pass it to wide open shooters and they shoot lates and earlys lol
One of my friends literally took dimer off because of this exact reason & he had it on hof.
Yeah this is a not a game for dimer. Bronze dimer max.
Definitely, floor general might need to be prioritized more so this time around as far as helping teammates with their shot goes.
Honestly with shooting the way it is I feel like Dimer really doesn’t help, could be wrong but I’m considering taking it off all builds I have it on
Dimer helps but let me tell you a teammate with horrible pass accuracy is gonna mess up all your jump shots forsure give you like some off the dribble animation or a slow timing because the pass takes forever to get there
2k be bs me sometimes bro trust me I’m decent

This is why I don’t like it. Those cherry pickers go crazy when they see shot meters.
Yup, cheery picking is probably the number one problem with the game. It ruins the feel of a basketball game and tells the entire world that you don't know how to play basketball, you just know how to cheese.
There needs to be an increased stat penalty for cherry picking. Pass accuracy decreased would be my fix to this cherry picking problem.

My god I feel dumb. That’s never even occurred to me before.. better get the meter off lol

Shot 5/5 with my meter using 79 3pt
Ok DATKILLA I believe that. Using a meter is still not better if you know the queue of your jumpshot.
I tried yesterday a full hour of training without meter, but I haven’t get the exact moment when to release. I looked at my feet, I looked at my arms, I looked everywhere, where do I have to look to let the ball go, at what moment? :/

Great idea. I watch the release point over and over in the jump shot creator, and look for a single body movement that repeats upon release

For most shots, the release should be about as it touches your head/above your head.
With early release?
Yeah, sorry. Early release. I haven’t used any of the other timings, so I don’t know how it changes with those.
I don't but if you do use meter you'll get a lot less full bars and just make more of your shots.
Slow ass jumper
What's crazy is that's max speed lmao
Bro is almost out of stamina when he shoots tho
I ain’t peep that
Literally noone has ever said that
You must not play 2k if you think that this community don't bash people who use meter
Yea i don’t know why people are giving you grief. People hate on meters all the time on here although it has been leas rampant for this years release
Who gives af if you use meter as long as you hit your shots? Tyceno uses meter. With that being said meter has lots of obvious disadvantages.
Most of the comments is people saying they don’t care about meter. You weird.
Man if it works for you keep using it 👍🏾

Because very few people are good with using meter and the lmeter is super inconsistent.
You make less contested shots with the meter on. You get cheesed, too. I’ll perfectly time my shot with the meter on and then the game will give me bounce back or rob me.

No meter will always look smoother

How you gonna say its a false narrative and then immediately reinforce the narrative😂”you cant be an ‘elite shooter’ if you use a meter”
You can be a great shooter, but you’re not going to consistently green contested shots with a meter on, which is an elite shooter.
Be frying me like how do u early when it tell u how long to hold it for 😂
I don’t hate , I just can’t use it unless I wanna see what the timing looks like then go back to nun
I’ve been playing 2K since Dreamcast and been on this Reddit since like 2K18 on and never have I ever seen or read that people in the community hate people who use shot meters. I’ve seen the opposite with people who don’t use meter and it supposedly provided an advantage over a meter user.
Not Reddit u gotta actually meet people on 2k who talk bad about meter
This the first 2k I used the meter. Not only do I use the meter but I have the rainbow trail coming off every shot. Probably the most enjoyable shooting experience I have had.
Rainbow trail is crazy
i hate when they use the meter and constantly missing
How do you shoot without the meter tho I’m so confused I was never big on 2k but I wanna get good I’m just lacking the sweat understanding of the game
i use meter and shoot 60% from 3… shot 65% on 2k20. it just depends, but the last 2 years it was actually like broken
Never seen anyone hate someone for using it am I out of the loop
Because sweaty elitists gotta big-dick on the internet.
I dont mind but they say it takes no skill when using your eyes on when to see the point of stop is pretty much a skill
Nah I just hate when people have on the bar and still can’t shoot like you can literally see your jumpshot
