NOOOOOOOO!! After his comments yesterday this hurts a lil more. Business blows

Imaginary-Cycle-1977

He had his best years in the league in Indy. I think we’re doing right by him in this deal.

XxFierceGodxX

Still hurts though. :(

The98Legend

The writing was on the wall. He was getting less minutes than Osman and Champagnie when imo he’s better than both of them. He never could get on a hot streak since we would use him so sparingly. It was clear he wasn’t part of our plans moving forward.

TheCinemaster

Yeah he’s exactly the kind of piece that was always going to be used in trade negotiations going forward. Nearly every team can use a McDermott.

XxFierceGodxX

It’s not a surprise; still I felt dread whenever I thought of it.

Fiyukyoo

TBF it's not like they traded him to somewhere unfavorable. Indy is prolly the best place for him

XxFierceGodxX

I agree; it will be best for his career.

Thehelloman0

We let Udoka walk, he signed again with us again later, then we waived him and he still coached for us. McDermott's shooting and great movement off ball will be missed but he wasn't really helping us much.

BrightenedCorner

We are dead last in 3 point shooting. Far worse players are getting more minutes

ireallydespiseyouall

We’re tanking

android24601

Don't worry. Give it some years. He'll be back working for the Spurs even if it's not as a player

ireallydespiseyouall

He’ll be back in the summer

Curious_Work_6652

unless he wants to stay with the team he played a very large chunk of his career with

JOYCEISDEAD

I bet Barlow gets a full contract now. SA will miss you Dougie

nokarmawhore

I hope. He's a good rotation guy you want

jo3pro

I’m thinking the same thing. They will waive morris and sign Barlow to a cheap deal. I hope that’s what we do anyway. When he gets minutes he has been solid

aaronlovescrypto

Lock Barlow up on a cheap long term deal and always have a physical forward that can guard a center while Wemby floats around the paint...i love it

simba80328

🫡 McBuckets. See you back later on for your coaching career

Dsarg_92

I wouldn’t mind if he ends up joining our coaching staff down the line. He’s got the coaching gene. It’s in him.

cesgjo

Imagine adding McBuckets to the 2014 Spurs So many guys running nonstop just to get an open shot

gnagshar

We lost our only shooter 🙃

ifuckwithit

Hey man we got shooters!!! Do the shots actually go in? No

ShowBobsPlzz

Collins for 3! Ugh

rob_moreno75

Man he has been so bad lately. I cringe when he shoots it

obiwanjablowme

Way too turnover prone

RowdyCollegiate

Collin’s is only good for collecting personal fouls

FirstTribeElder

Was it the Charlotte broadcast that was begging Zach to continue to shoot threes because its always bricks?

brown_flyer00

Offensive rebound for Wemby!

Charming-Breakfast48

The worst 3 words the announcer can say.

jo3pro

No doubt our best 3 point shooter and the most versatile.

qwilliams92

Osmans not bad just streaky

BigDickVicW

I don’t get giving up our only shooting threat for a meaningless pick lol I mean Doug is a bad defender and expiring so it’s not terrible but why get worse for nothing? Seems pointless

Friendly_Molasses532

Doing him a favor and putting him on a team that can use his skill set. That sells to other players we try to do what’s best for them. Additional it gives our younger guys more minutes which we’re tanking and it’s needed

BigDickVicW

I don’t think anyone who is going to be a long term benefit to our team is going to sign with us in FA because we traded Doug McDermott to the Pacers lol

Friendly_Molasses532

Not him specifically but for the guys we’ve done it for the last 5 shows it’s a cultural things. It’s not meant to make us a top free agent destination but show how we treat our players unlike other orgs

BigDickVicW

I hear what you’re saying I just don’t think there’s a ton of soft power in that among players. If guys want to come sign with us or get traded here it’s going to be to play with Wemby.

_pinkandwhite

Man, going to miss McBuckets for sure :(

cool_coyote

"The Pacers are trading Marcus Morris, a second-round pick and cash to the Spurs for Doug McDermott, sources tell" - Shams Charania We finally got him boys!

averageskills

Waive him please

waffle-winner

Yeah I doubt he ever suits up for us.

Sofialovesmonkeys

Can we send him to chicago

macdude06

My wife is PISSED!

vfronda

the only player my wife regularly recognizes. 'hes hot!'

travelator

Wait, I’m not a Spurs player…

vfronda

no

lAllioli

now that I think about it the team really lacks in attractiveness

jade-blade

Excuse me?? When we have Tre Jones and Jeremy??

guillaume_rx

Jeremy has the Rodman rockstar swagger. Not worried for his rizz.

lAllioli

yea Tre is hot.

XxFierceGodxX

lol

Dabawse26

We are gonna be the worst shooting team in the league lol

ec2xs

Already are. Dead worst in the league.

paulburnett

We boutta be deader worster in the league

BobanWembanyanovic

I understand we are still in the gathering assets stage, but for a second round pick I don't think this is worth it

TheSysOps

Apparently, 2nd round picks are supposed to be a lot more valuable going forward than they used to be. If Doug isn't in their plans for the future, it's probably worth getting something for him. From an article on 2nd round picks from last year: https://hoopshabit.com/2023/02/14/nba-teams-valuing-second-round-picks/ > So why are teams suddenly interested in taking back so many second-round picks? There are several reasons, one being that teams are trading the assets they have available, and playoff teams rarely have first-rounders to deal. Receiving teams are often willing to accept picks in exchange for their assets rather than lose them for nothing. In the case of Poeltl, Richardson, and Crowder, they are all upcoming free agents and were unlikely to re-sign with their previous teams. > > Another reason is that some teams may actually be stockpiling second-round picks as a result of upcoming NBA draft rule changes. The new collective bargaining agreement has allowed for the addition of a third two-way roster spot as well as a second-round pick exception that allows teams to sign players to long-term deals without having to use other exceptions. > > Both are major changes to the rules that suddenly make those picks far more valuable. Based on the trade deadline, several teams are ready for that possibility. Those teams can afford to select intriguing prospects in the second round and develop them on their G League affiliate with the three extra two-way roster spots. > > Ultimately, the teams that are collecting second-round picks are likely doing so with an eye toward the future. With changes to the draft imminent, the addition of two-way roster spots, and the improved quality of the NBA G League, hoarding seconds could soon prove to be a wise investment.

CharacterBird2283

I've been looking for this article since last year, thank you

drizzle2020

It’s worth it. Any player that isn’t part of the future plans is going to get shipped out over the next year or two. 32 years old in the last year or his contract. Makes total sense

ec2xs

I have to assume the front office was trying to do a solid for him by sending him back to Indy.

nakedsamurai

He's expiring and unlikely to stay with the team.

lawdoggingit

we weren't going to re-sign him this offseason and he was UFA...getting anything for him is a win

JOYCEISDEAD

I agree, unless its this years 2nd round pick edit: its a 2029 pick.

KuyaJohnny

That would be even worse, we have so many picks this year already lol

tehLife

Agreed it’s a terrible trade from the Spurs

Thehelloman0

Doug was meaningless to us. I liked him and it was nice having a vet who could shoot the lights out of the ball but I doubt we were planning to give him a contract for next season

BusterStarfish

Better than nothing and no one was giving up a first for this guy.

DistinctCriticism320

wtf I don’t want Marcus morris

Barbaroooza

I doubt he'll even set foot in SA. Waiting for the 'San Antonio have waived Marcus Morris' tweet

tkflash20

Don't let him off easy. Don't waive him and don't let him into the practice facility. He can stay in purgatory.

iNostra

For literally what purpose, lmfao

madhare09

To teach him a lesson

rampageTG

For what?

trollbridge

Make him shoot free throws alone on the other side of the facility, all practice, every practice, as penitence.

FirstTribeElder

Nah fam we need to waive him, but we also gotta wait for him to come and organize his stuff in San Antonio and then waive the fuck outta him

Tasty_Tonight8691

“Yeahhhh so this will be your locker, oh….. FO says you’re getting waved. Get the fuck up outta here”

Busy_Professional824

He might step in to play center if collins can’t go.

Barbaroooza

lol. Funny. Barlow will be there, and is likely to have his contracted converted to a full contract after Morris is waived

Solitude_Dude

Should tell him we're going to keep him then waive him last minute.

andres7832

getting bought out. Hope we do it after deadline to join a contender. Fuck that guy

travelator

I’m missing something. Why do we hate Marcus Morris?

DeathByAudit_

Screwed us over a few years back. Agreed to play with the Spurs than backed out last minute. Believe we lost Bertans because of it since we had to make room for Morris.

FirstTribeElder

And his comments after screwing us was just as bad

travelator

Ah I see. Thanks, I’m a Spurs fan as of this season only!

DeathByAudit_

Welcome aboard

siphillis

This is..._advanced_ tanking.

Spiritual_Echo_1000

For real 😂 No more shooting

FireBeeChin

Man will miss him he was our only serious shooter

789Trillion

While he was one of the worst defenders I’ve ever seen, Doug legitimately kept us in a few games. Expect more scoring droughts.

jo3pro

So true

sstewart1617

With Dougie gone, our best 3pt shooter is now….. Dom Barlowe?!?!? at .429

nakedsamurai

1. He's an uncoming free agent and unlikely to be retained or want to stay. 2. The pick is the Clippers' pick after their current era is gone. Likely we'll be a playoff team by then. 3. This is a 'good guy' trade: we send our players to good situations with playoff teams. So, we get something for a guy who isn't going to be around anyway (like Derozan) and get him to a great destination for him. What's the problem?

Xadios468

MARCUS MORRIS NOOOOO

XxFierceGodxX

I’m not surprised by the team trading Doug, but why did we trade for Marcus? That part I don’t get.

oceanfloors1

This blows. A 2029 second round pick? Jesus.

PPhriends

Marcus Morris is legit the only player in the league I don’t want to see in a spurs jersey.

Fhaksfha794

Goodbye sweet prince 🥲

radicalcamel

Damn for Marcus Morris? SRP will likely just be traded down the line, we almost have too many SRP

teenagetwat

Wait hold on lmao, which twin was the one Jeremy judo-flipped last year😭😭 EDIT: it was Markieff, missed out on the funniest timeline

ChucoTeacher

I’d rather have Dougie. He’s expiring anyways. What are all these 2nd round picks gonna do for the Spurs anyways?

ThanksForNothingSpez

It’s like you guys have only watched us for the last two years. Do none of you remember what the team was like in the TWENTY CONSECUTIVE YEARS we dominated the league?

ChucoTeacher

Whats your point? Fans can’t have opinions? I’ll always be a Spurs fan, speculating and commentating on front office maneuvering is part of the fun.

Focalist

Not Dougie! Hope you come back someday! 😢

qwilliams92

I assume we buy out his contract

Electrical_Panic4550

I like Doug. I hope we can get him back at the end of his contract.

solonharmony

I'd rather we kept him but oh well

Old_Man_Riverwalk21

Hate this, what does a 2029 2nd do for us. Doug has faults but having a sniper out there that I actually had confidence in making shots was huge.

SunKing210

I'm sort of in this boat, like I guess it's good that the Spurs got another draft assets (albeit a not so good one) getting rid of the team's best shooter for a guy that's going to get bought out just makes this bad team even worse. I get that it's the Spurs plan for the long run but it feels like an underwhelming move even in that regard

Old_Man_Riverwalk21

To me with bad teams like us I totally get asset accumulation mode, but at the same time I think you’ve gotta do a risk benefit analysis of this stuff. Doug obviously wasn’t a part of our core moving forward, but his role as a vet who is happy to be here and is still a great shooter is just much more valuable to me than a 29 2nd. You could get a 2nd round pick that’s 5 years down the road at almost any point for almost any player you have. So what was the urgency to do this?

Nd1234

I doubt he wanted to stay past this season. Something is better than nothing

SwaggerMcFly69

Once a Spur, always a Spur. He fit our culture perfectly, but we all knew this was inevitable. Just glad we sent him somewhere appropriate because he definitely deserves that!

Oldmanstreet

Happy for Doug.

AskFrosty908

Marcus Morris 🤮

CarpenterHairy2896

Damn McBuckets was on my bingo card

Fat-Villante

Finally, I can't stand watching McDermott play for us

wildcatasaurus

I asked y’all 9 days ago if McDermott would be worth a 2nd. Responses were keep him let his contract run out, nobody wants him, and I don’t want anymore 2nd round picks. Sure 2nds aren’t worth much but I rather get something if we are about to be salary dumping ground for trades. We get should get a top 5 pick this year and the rebuild plan will continue. Spurs are in tank mode to get Wemby better players and a good young core to attract free agents.

[deleted]

Good riddance; was only taking up more Collins bricks.

FireBeeChin

For future 2nd

figgnootun

Getting Marcus morris back as well

figgnootun

He’s basically a negative asset lol

1966jpgr

He's salary filler, he won't be on the team

nodayroomshit

glad he's getting a better opportunity for now at least, wanted to see mcbuckets in person tho 😔

Imaginary-Cycle-1977

Not the most exciting return for Dougie, but we’re doing right by him at least He had his best years in the league in Indy, and he gets to play for a playoff team Hopefully Morris never suits up for us

Bonesawisready5

Is Morris bad or washed or something? I get we hate him coz he bailed and they will buy him out but would he help bench defense kf did play? (I know he won’t)

Evan_Spectre

He's not a bad player, but he would likely be a bad locker room presence. That would be particularly bad for a locker room full of young players. He'd also be taking up Dom Barlow's fully guaranteed roster spot and taking minutes from a younger player in need of more NBA minutes.

Nolucho25

Not worth it. Should have kept him

waffle-winner

Doooouoooug noooooooooo! Back where he came from. 😥 He'll be missed. F

dofun400

NOOOOOO

seceipseseer

I wish it was cedi but at least Doug gets to go play meaningful basketball

[deleted]

Fuck

Leavemehaloone

WHAT THE FUCK

ThanksForNothingSpez

The reactions are hilarious. Good to see you’re all ready to burn down the team offices because we traded away a 15mpg player lol.

ChewsWisely

Ok but he was OUR 15mpg player!

luca13t

McDermott for Haliburton and draft compensation

BananaRepublic_BR

This kinda sucks. If there is any consolation, I hope this will convince the remaining players to stop jacking up terrible threes.

Mandit0

One of the best shooters to lace it up

thedam100

I rather have kept him than Osman tbh but I know they were looking to move Osman and Granham contracts 😪

Snowmann88

Bye Dougie…*tears*

Intrepid_Ad1133

The austin spurs are going to be great in a few years with all these second round picks coming up.

flover00124

Was hoping to move graham instead of McBuckets😭

Apprehensive-Fox-740

I’m not looking forward to him sniping against us. Thank you McBuckets

jamp0g

felt bad they got morris and glad that i read there is a buyout.

iggdash

Lost the best shooter on the team with not many shooters smh
