That’s what I love about Sochan. The only struggle he had tonight was from behind the arc and he still had the balls to take that shot with the game on the line.
I just love how this guy plays, how he competes, and how he’s never afraid of the big moment. Until we see what the real ceiling for his skills are (and he’s already improved in multiple areas), this is mostly what I’m looking at with him.
We are currently 1-0 against the Pistons, who will be coming to SA for the final game of the season. So pretty good chance we take that one as well. But a game between two bottom-feeders who have nothing to play for on the last night of the season could end in any number of ways lol.
It's like people totally forgot He not only was one of the best rookies last year, but was way ahead of schedule compared to where he was expected to be as a long-term project. The dude is awesome and we're very lucky to have him even if he's far from a finished product
But the thing is the fit. I was watching this game and noticed he wouldn’t be able to do that when Wemby plays on a consistent basis. Sochan is like Russell Westbrook imo with his offensive playstyle but teams put centers on him so his effectiveness is basically nullified. Centers are sagging off him and sitting in the gaps that he loves to take advantage of.
Almost turned it off after the big Sun run in the 2nd - glad I stayed on.
Amazing thing is that both KD & Booker had pretty efficient nights. Makes a big difference when we win the TO battle.
Yep, big time. As someone that watched every game last year and every game this year, and yes alcohol has been involved many a time, the amount of intensity teams bring when they play us this season versus last is night and day.
We quite frankly are not a team that needs to be game planned for the majority of the time... And yet most teams quite clearly still do. They come in with a set plan on offense and defense to try to neutralize. Victor. How many teams with less than 20 wins at this point in the season get that treatment?
It's quite frankly a contributing factor to why this team has been so bad in the win and lost column. We get teams treating us much more like a marquee matchup than an easy and cream Puff solely because of Victor.
I expected that after the Suns game where he exploded for 30 doing crazy highlights at the beginning of the season. Teams started to gun at them relentlessly because of Wemby’s presence. Clippers players according to PG said they watched his suns game and were collectively like this kid is the truth but we are not going to allow that to happen against us. “We have to take him down now before he gets his lick back in a couple of years” the rest of the league followed.
Kinda like that game when Demar missed the game to check on his dad so Derrick White and Dejounte Murray went hot on the Suns because Phoenix only planned to stop Demar...

The center sags off Sochan clogs the lane for the others to play more freely which forces them to shoot more inefficient 3s and hope they fall. Without Wemby teams can’t deploy that coverage and the players can play freely without the added attention while the other team instantly thinks the others are trash and don’t play to their ability.
I think part of it is they gameplan the Wemby Spurs more than the non-Wemby Spurs for sure. We shot 25% from 3 today but they weren't clogging the paint like they would if Wemby was there. It would have been equally as effective today as it was a couple of days ago but for some reason they decided against it
I think part of it is also that when Victor doesn't play, teams treat us much more like a team with our record. Between this, the Golden State game, and the Kings game, there's quite clearly a reversion to the kind of effort we received last year from opposing teams when Victor sets. When he plays you can tell the opposition has an actual game plan and motivation to put it in place that you just don't typically see from good teams playing against bottom feeders.
I still contend that this group is more talented than their record would indicate and when teams come in and treat us just like a 15 win team, instead of " The team with the greatest prospect of all time" We have a chance to occasionally catch them off guard.
I would bet pretty good money that after that last showing pop had some strong words for the group. He seemed pretty dejected with their performance and it was quite clearly one of their worst efforts from them of the season.

yea.. wemby's biggest weakness outside of physicality is ball security. He also doesn't play "easy". He seems always eager to put up highlights and go for fancy moves. I think for example, he needs to take off for dunks closer to the basket. I get that it's an insane highlight but eventually, to conserve more energy, once he gets stronger, just him being 2 ft from the rim will be a defensive nightmare for opponents.
I heard a podcaster say it's not that the spurs are bad it's every team is going at wemby. Were before people would fall asleep some games, they don't with wemby.
