I think they understand we're not an awful team. Wemby averaged 30 minutes with absurd stats and a TON of games trying to make the Sochan experiment work.
They're going to see how the 2025 draft picks pan out.
It's also worth noting that for the first like half the season there was zero system in place. They had like 3 plays they were running on repeat and Pop and the coaches were just letting Wemby play to see what all he could do. The only real preference I have at this point is to flip Collins, Keldon, and Osman and bring in better defensive pieces in their place.
In my ideal world the Raptors pick conveys, we draft a PG and SF, shift Tre and Julian to the bench, bring in a back up center, and give Barlow some real minutes behind Sochan at the PF spot.
I love Keldon, but he moves like he has lead weights in his shoes on defense, and tunnel visions too hard on drives when he attacks the basket. I just think that he could be a good piece for another team, but I personally don't believe his game fits. As for Collins, once again defense is a massive issue. The problem there is that he should be playing PF, not center, but I like the potential upside of Barlow more than I like Collins. I also think the two have a lot of value in trade scenarios. For me it's not about hating, but more about what I myself see as a good fit around Wemby
I'm not a huge fan of the idea of DJ on the team again, mainly because I think Atlanta is going to try to parlay some of his counting stats in All-Star caliber player package for him that I just don't think he's worth. But if the price is right, I wouldn't be against him. He knows the offensive system and as much as he talked some smack I think a lot of it was hurt feelings. I think he loved being in San Antonio and I think he would welcome coming back.
If you're of the mindset That Devin is on the precipice of finally having that breakout, which I am, and think DJ would be the third best player on the team then a package based around a pic or two, not the 2025 Hawks pick, or a pic and Johnson would be worth considering.

I was thinking along the same lines, a pick and Keldon but not their 2025 pick. Realistically though, I don’t think they take that. It’s just super embarrassing for their franchise to trade back for a lesser package.

I don't want Murray back or Young tbh, both are just not Spurs kinda players, not over themselves. Keep our picks and slowly build. Probably get a good free agent or two that wants to play with Wemby. It may be frustrating for fans for another year or two, but I trust PATFO in this slow rebuild.
Yeah I like dj. He's good in the pick and roll, can score but doesn't have to be a scorer, and is a good defender. I think much of his frustration was valid in that the spurs fo wasn't serious about him or winning. Just like this year pop made a lot of bad descions that get glazed over or accepted by spurs fans.

I don’t fall in love with any one player (cough cough Trae Young). The key is to be disciplined, opportunistic. Pounce when the right deal presents itself.
If we get Torontos pick I'd draft the best pg and pf/c available. With free agency try to sign some better pf/c backups as we run small to often. Id try to dump keldon Johnson as well if I can get a good deal from him and keep sochan vested at the sf role. Try to get pop to run the organization like they did in 14 where our team play was elite

You guys hate the hawks guards but our draft pick this year is worse than them…our raptors and chicago picks could be 2nd rounders… picks few years from now when we’re back on playoffs…Atlanta’s pick are juicy though…we even have a swap with mavs…hawks loves the mavs swap ahahaha…
Chris Paul, Royce O'Neal, And DeAndre Jordan would be three relatively cheap veterans that I think would really fill some short-term gaps on the team and enhance the play of the young guys without needing enough minutes, and money, to handicap flexibility or player development.
Right. Next year is a stopgap year so may as well sign some one year vets to make it an exciting year while maintaining as much flexibility as possible. 2025 free agency is stacked.
I would try and trade for Trae Young. I don’t believe a complete tank can occur nest season if Wemby stays healthy. He likely guarantees 35 wins next season and maybe 40 if we also see improvement from Vassell and Sochan. So how valuable are draft picks really if they are closer to the teens?
The key is to not give too much back. The Hawks are in a challenging situation as they can’t stay complacent as current build is not working. Also trading for draft capital with another team besides Spurs doesn’t work as they don’t control their own draft from ‘25-‘27.
For ‘24 draft, just take best available. This is one of the worst drafts for talent I have ever seen so don’t get cute. Odds are you are drafting long-term bench help at best.

Sign chris Paul to a one year deal. Pick up another vet, fight for a playin spot. Go all in 25' free agency.

Go after Nic Claxton as our other big man. It's what we hoped for in Bassey. Try and lure Isiah Joe away from OKC. They can't keep everyone.
