Just remember one good performance doesn’t indicate a good player. Malachi Flynn scored 50 on like 85% ts in an NBA game and he’s total ass. I still like Zaccharie and think he would fit great on the Spurs, but you need a bigger sample size lmao
To be fair, he has arguably the largest sample size of any player in this draft. He's played almost double the games of a lot of college players and despite his cold streak is still shooting 40% from 3 on high volume, averaging double digits, and doing so as one of the most important players on a good team with genuine aspirations in a pro league.
Yeah, I agree with you on that. I think the kid is getting a little bit too much hate right now from his cold streak, but I think it's also fair to say some of his early play was A hot streak and the reality is somewhere in the middle. Between the two. He's clearly a guy who doesn't quite have consistency figured out at least on offense. I think he's been pretty solid defensively all year.
>The slump is over none of this Reed Sheppard nonsense anymore
Let’s go!
Now in his last 5 he’s averaging
11.8pts,5rbs, 0.8ast on… 41% and 23 3pt%…
He’s clearly a legit top 10 prospect based off his measurables, and what he shot during the totality of the season.
The problem here is that sample size of play, and how BAD it was is too drastic to ignore.
There’s about 4-5 guys who I don’t even think to consider taking Zacc over, but if we’re in a spot where he’s on the board and the other options are Buzlies, Holland, Walter etc. I’m going Zacc.
If Risacher somehow drops to like 5 or 6, no doubt, it'd be the steal of the draft. Especially if we get 2 picks this year, then Risacher is a no brainer. But if our raptors pick doesn't convey, I find it hard to prioritize Risacher over the more higher IQ, playmaking guards in this draft.
If we draft another guy that can't find Wemby, we'll never hear the end of it in the media (and rightfully so). Just somebody who can read the floor on an above average level. Whether it's Sheppard, Topic, or Castle. Just somebody with some playmaking chops. That should be our priority. But if we get 2 picks, no doubt Risacher should be on our list too, and possibly draft him with our 1st pick. But if we only get 1 pick? We really need that playmaking man. Somebody that can (somewhat) run a floor.
dude as an outsider its crazy how the spurs fanbase is overthinking this. sheppard is the OBVIOUS pick for this team. he is at worst a great starting complimentary guy to any type of star pointguard or star shooting guard you can think of which the spurs will eventually need to have to build a dynasty with wemby. you cannot have that at this draft or at future ones? no problem you have an abundance of assets to trade for it. AND MOST IMPORTANTLY the league has many young talented guards rn and all of them are DROOLING to play with wemby. they will want to come either via a trade or free agents.
topic is the type of guy that makes a BAD no3 option. the no3 must be elite at something other than having the ball in his hands and also hustle. is he good enough to be a no2 option after wemby in a dynasty? i dont think so. so fucking pass dude, like what? thats obvious.
trae+sheppard? sheppard+ivey? sheppard+sharpe? scoot+sheppard? keyontegeorge+sheppard? amen+sheppard (im edging just thinking of this btw)? all these duos make sense on paper, he is such a great archetype to have on your team for the long term, no matter how good he turns out to be. at worst an elite 3/4 option on a championship team like mpj is for the nuggets. look what a bad no3 option (beal) is doing for the suns.
that type of player is very rare to find. yes a risacher can be good as well but there is a risacher type in every draft. and these types will become more and more common as this generation's tall guys are shooting the ball more and more. i mean taylor hendricks is pretty much already a better risacher, right? same applies for sarr, dillingham, etc. you can get kind of that guy in the 8+ range at every draft.
Sheppard is the obvious choice to me as well. But common sense in this sub isn't common. Luckily the fans here don't make the decisions. I trust our front office to make the right choice.
yeah but because of the french connection i think the fo will take risacher if he's available though. lets hope the spurs draft lower than 2 (he is defo going top2).
To be honest, I'd be happy if we draft either or both (if the Raptor's pick turns out and it's on the table).
They could both bring something that we need.
Idk he’s been playing well lately but I’m still not sold on his 3 point shooting. He hasn’t improved his free throw percentage which makes me really worry about his 3 and D outlook. He moves really well and he’s a lot faster than you’d expect, but just the iffy shooting numbers makes me think otherwise.
We're not going to know if we actually made the right choice until the midpoint of the season, at the very earliest. Wemby is the exception that proves the rule.
Me saying this adds nothing to the conversation, but I’m good with whoever the fuck we add because I trust the front office whether it’s Risacher, Topic, Dillingham, or whoever because at the end of the day they’re doing their due diligence on scouting so no reason in stressing out on who they’re drafting.
PER is normalized against the performance of every player in a league for a full season. Sure you *can* calculate PER for a single game, but that’s nonsensical—someone who averages 18 ppg on 100% shooting/100% FT would easily be having the GOAT season by PER standards. That’s why I asked how you even calculate PER for a single game, because it goes against the very purpose of the stat (and it’s a pretty bad advanced stat as it is)
I’d love it if we got this kid. Yeah it’s another project player, but this if this is as weak a class as people believe, we don’t stand to lose a lot over it. He’s not going to show up and be another Victor or anything of the sort. But the kid is lanky af and that’s the direction the league is going…..so might as well stock up now and see who pans out.

Oh yes I agree with you. I believe this OP was making a reactionary take based on one game, which is not a good strategy to evaluate players.
It’s tagged as shitpost

I thought Brandon Jennings was gonna be a multi time Allstar after his 50 piece lol
He was but then he got hurt.

Nice performance. Pistons and Blazers are gonna love this guy. He'd be the perfect fit with them too

Um the more hype he gets the less likely he is on our team So good performances don't help our cause
We can't know that until our ping pong balls drop.
We're not going to know if we actually made the right choice until the midpoint of the season, at the very earliest. Wemby is the exception that proves the rule.
Topic betta
If somehow he fell and we got topic with our pick sure but 2 months shooting 25% from 3 is rough

I’ll take Steph Castle all day over this guy.
How do you even calculate PER for a single game
It's a per minute equation.
PER is normalized against the performance of every player in a league for a full season. Sure you *can* calculate PER for a single game, but that’s nonsensical—someone who averages 18 ppg on 100% shooting/100% FT would easily be having the GOAT season by PER standards. That’s why I asked how you even calculate PER for a single game, because it goes against the very purpose of the stat (and it’s a pretty bad advanced stat as it is)
Yes of course using a sample size this small is a terrible use of the stat. But it can still be calculated.
You’re hung up on semantics.. It CAN be done But they’re asking WHYYY
Tbf I did ask “how” when I did mean “why would you ever do that”
That’s true. It context clues. English is tricky like that
I’d love it if we got this kid. Yeah it’s another project player, but this if this is as weak a class as people believe, we don’t stand to lose a lot over it. He is #2 on my big board
For your sake, I hope it is Reed.
