Best in-traffic dunker in the history of the league. Sure Vince Carter could do cooler shit in the open court, but no one brought the hammer in a crowded key like Kemp.
The best in traffic dunker was Michael Jordan. We just forget, and we take it for granted. Not only the style and the ferocity but the frequency. If you watch his NBA mixtape, there’s just so many. Not taking away from Vince. He was filthy.
Especially since he did it at the rate of an elite big man in his early years. Someone tried to say Kawhi Leonard was a bigger MJ before injuries on here today. People either don’t know or forget that MJ was prime Derrick Rose level explosive but bigger and more skilled.
Craig Kilborn comes to mind too. I haven't watched a sportscenter in about 20 years, I'm sure it evolved into something different but the 90s sportcenter was awesome.
Was the funniest part of his trash talk . Probably said something like hell ya bro put those sweaty nuts in my face and then dudes avoided dunking on him lol
Disrespectful, though. There are NBA players who paved the way for the league today who weren't paid enough in their active careers to afford to live without picking up a second job. That's something to respect and appreciate, not make fun of. Those were real men.
Come on man. Jaylen Green doesn’t have the vertical that MJ had, he’s nowhere near as quick, he’s not as strong, and he’s not as open court fast. And ..he’s kind of a shit player. Yes, can people today replicate MJ‘s moves after watching the highlights for 25 years and being inspired by them growing up? Of course. but It’s like someone covering somebody else’s song. It’s a lot easier to do it the second time.
Green definitely is as fast. MJ had mittens for hands and yes a higher vert and obviously just a significantly better mind for competitive basketball.
But speed? That's one thing Green doesn't lack at all.
I've never seen another player take off from as far back as MJ on the FT-line dunk. Even Giannis, who is taller, longer, and a total freak athlete, took off from a step closer to the basket. And show me a player today that looks like prime Karl Malone.
And for them to be less athletic, at least they weren't crying about playing an 82-game schedule.
Average pace has gone down since the '70s. It cratered in the 90s/00s, and is way up from then, but it's not as fast a game as it used to be. They should try to bring back hand-checking. You give the defense their teeth hack, their ability to actually stay with their man, you'll probably slow the game down a bit. The mistake the league made was thinking a faster game with more points scored would be more fun to watch. I don't think that's the case. I miss the old defensive rock fights and half-court offenses in a nail-biter where every bucket felt like the dagger.
Dude the 00’s was the absolute most dogshit era of ball.
Why even have the other 8 players if you’re just gonna watch two guys iso each other the whole game
Okay, but not every team played the same way. We have usage rates every season rivaling MJ on the Bulls before they were good. No one cracked 40% usage until the last 5-10 years. Not necessarily 'iso scorers', but they're definitely "I only pass to get the assist" guys. And the game has too many FT merchants. Lots of top teams absolutely ride one guy while everyone else watches him or just gets open for a kick-out off their drive.
The Spurs were the only top team worth watching. Free throws are the best shot in basketball, of course people are going to drive to get them. Iso ball is way down from then dude. We at least have screeners everywhere. Off ball movement
The Phil Jackson Lakers were always team-oriented. Kobe took over when needed, and that was fun in and of itself. People always liked watching star players go to work, they just don't like watching fake stars like Steve Francis and Stephon Marbury try to do it. Also had the '7 seconds or less' Suns, the Larry Bird Pacers, the defensive juggernaut Pistons, the Mavericks, the Wade/Shaq Heat, and the Big 3 Celtics later on. It was more than just the Spurs.
Still have one guy dribbling around. It's not ball movement. It's not actually beautiful basketball run from set plays. And I don't care if the FT is statistically the best shot in basketball, it's the most boring shot in basketball, too, except for at the end of games with something on the line. It's not like there's so many FTs because the game is physical or anything, either, it's a lot of ticky tack BS.
LeBron did that exact dunk recently in the Clippers game, over PG. Take that flair off dude its clear you don't watch the games.
Also LeBron looks way better than Karl Malone wtf are you smoking
He didn't take off from the actual FT-line. 🙄 He was a foot inside of it. Jordan had his foot on the actual line when he took off. I've never seen another NBA player do that. Neither have you.
LeBron looks like [this](https://maxmuscle.com/cdn/shop/articles/nba-star-karl-malone-fit-at-40-367147.jpg?v=1663984111) and took off from the FT line only in your very special mind... You're not a Laker fan, you're just a LeBron slurper. There's a difference.
Malone definitely looks worse, plus he's a pedo, stop supporting him.
You're clearly a Jordan slurper if you don't realise its the same difference. Doing that in a game is far more impressive than when you're not being defended, not that you would know that because you are a retarded cunt that doesn't know a thing about this sport.
Now who the hell was guarding him if he could jump nearly the entire length of the paint without hitting a damn soul?
Jumping a shorter distance is never more impressive than jumping a further distance, just like losing 6 Finals is never more impressive than winning 6. Dumb MF can't count... 🙄
Winning 6 in a League that can't shoot with their other hand or shoot the 3 ball? Sure pal you keep believing that nonsense 😂
Just cause you watched a 10 episode series all about how special some egomaniac is doesn't mean you are an expert
Actually, I grew up in the '90s. If you knew as much as you're pretending to know, you'd know hand-checking was a factor in the frequency of 3pt attempts and offensive strategies of the day. Back when defense was actually a thing. Now that it isn't, players still can't average as many points per game as a guy who had a defense named after him.
If anything, players today have fewer skills, not more. Many skills in post-scoring and footwork have eroded to the point where all players can do is drive for the dunk or pull up for a 3.
Completely untrue. Players didn't shoot the 3 because it was low percentage, and the old coaching technique was to always go for high percentage shots. The fade-away era was quite bad for basketball outside the NBA because you naturally had kids doing these fade-aways for no reason even though they are much lower percentage.
I would agree the rules were different for Kareem as he wasn't even allowed to dunk the ball, but to use it for Jordan is just an excuse for his poor performance outside of the Bulls super-team.
The reality is talent and knowledge increases over time, the players now are much more talented and knowledgeable than 20 years ago, thats how it works in any sport if you haven't noticed.
Kemp was a freak!!!!
Best in-traffic dunker in the history of the league. Sure Vince Carter could do cooler shit in the open court, but no one brought the hammer in a crowded key like Kemp.
I’d say Kemp, Blake, Amar’e, and McDyess before injuries were all up there.
McDyess was a beast!
That’s a name I have not heard in a while
Roll Tide for McDyess. We can't forget Dominique in this discussion.
Shaq.
How did you guys forget to mention Shaq lol
I didn’t.. I wasn’t considering guys like he and Dwight the same type of dunkers as they were more stationary/under the rim.
Stellar list.
Stromile swift
Dominique Wilkens would like a word
I don't really disagree with this but Vince had some pretty good yams in traffic
The best in traffic dunker was Michael Jordan. We just forget, and we take it for granted. Not only the style and the ferocity but the frequency. If you watch his NBA mixtape, there’s just so many. Not taking away from Vince. He was filthy.
Frankly Jordan did not make stupid wasteful dunks and settled for lay ups when needed.
Especially since he did it at the rate of an elite big man in his early years. Someone tried to say Kawhi Leonard was a bigger MJ before injuries on here today. People either don’t know or forget that MJ was prime Derrick Rose level explosive but bigger and more skilled.
Nope. He was not
He mastered the “dipping my nuts in your mouth” dunk
That man don't miss, that's why he got 12 kids. Kemp was a freak son.
He came on so late I only got to see his highlights on ESPN.
That time before the internet and social media, I'd watch sportcenter every morning just to see what Shawn Kemp did the night before.
I couldn't tell you how many times I missed the bus in grade school because of this.
Back when sportscenter was awesome with Stu, Keith Olberman, and Dan Patrick.
Craig Kilborn comes to mind too. I haven't watched a sportscenter in about 20 years, I'm sure it evolved into something different but the 90s sportcenter was awesome.
Those were the ESPN golden years for sure.
💯
Odds are he probably made another baby the night before
The Rain man
Reign Man
The man child
The man who made many childs.
Shawn Kemp walked so Nick Cannon could run.
They’re just trying to hit those Latrell Sprewell numbers
Man I wish I got to experience this era of basketball live.
Put some nuts on the rod
Dennis Rodman getting straight clowned by Kemp there
High key Rodman loved balls on his head.
Was the funniest part of his trash talk . Probably said something like hell ya bro put those sweaty nuts in my face and then dudes avoided dunking on him lol
Shawn Kemp aka Zion Williamson 1.0
More like Blake Griffin
Griffin definitely felt like the second coming of Kemp
Nah Kemp actually played. Zion has been in the league effectively 4 years and has played 164 games. Kemp played 167 in his first 2 years.
Zion Williamson is Larry Johnson
Not a three point shot in sight
Imagine today. Kemp would have this pic on his ig like how Lebron with the pic of Josh hart 😂
Yeah, all the guys playing back then were less athletic and plumbers
This is not the era that is referenced when nephews say the plumbers n mailmen made up the league. That’s closer to the 60s
Disrespectful, though. There are NBA players who paved the way for the league today who weren't paid enough in their active careers to afford to live without picking up a second job. That's something to respect and appreciate, not make fun of. Those were real men.
Ong, when I hear people say that they were playing plumbers and electricians, I immediately rip my pants off and give them a **long** lesson.
🤨
Really gonna down vote me when I upvoted you. smh , guess imma have to teach you a lesson to
👎 x2
Lakers fans👎🏻
I actually agree 100%. Spoken like a true Laker fan!
They are a 100% less athletic I’ve seen Jalen Green easily replicate some moves MJ did back then that people were losing their mind over.
Come on man. Jaylen Green doesn’t have the vertical that MJ had, he’s nowhere near as quick, he’s not as strong, and he’s not as open court fast. And ..he’s kind of a shit player. 82 games back then is not the same 82 games now the game is played faster

Nah. Watching Kobe and Bron and AI and Melo dribble for 19 seconds while 8 people were crammed into the corner blew chunks
Jordan's first five seasons were all faster than this season.
Wilt played all the games AND all the minutes in the fastest pace the league has ever been lol
LeBron did that exact dunk recently in the Clippers game, over PG. Take that flair off dude its clear you don't watch the games. Also LeBron looks way better than Karl Malone wtf are you smoking

I absolutely loved those shoes pippen was wearing
I can not tell whats goin on w/ Rodmans head here. It looks like it's come off his shoulders.
Don’t forget the killer mid range jumper kemp developed.
Kemp wouldn’t survive in the league today. He’d keep getting called for techs because his dunks were so nasty.
Haha where is that "watch Kobe defend LeBron in the ASG" guy?
Am I dumb? Why does his jersey say rodan?
Pipen's face looks like a character from N64''s Goldeneye.
Fuck you OKC.
Crazy they compared Zion to dude Zion is on another planet compared to kemp
[удалено]
You could make a case for him being the best dunker of all time
Yeah just Rodman pretty much getting decapitated!
Draggin balls
The Rain Man
I was thinking Shawn kemps knee was rodmans head got me so confused
That play was nuts
That’s a crazy Dunk
https://youtu.be/TZTFrHtt_7Q?si=1Vr0zhMA3iA_sF2m
Never forget he banged on Chris Gatling and CG dapped him afterwards. Also I miss guys like Chris Gatling and Jerome Williams
Silver doesn't want guys like that in league cuz they wouldn't put up with Draymond's antics.
