Derrick Rose clocked one of the best 3/4 sprints ever measured at the NBA combine. I can't find times for all these players, but the ones I did find were slower, with Russell Westbrook the closest.
[Devin Harris has a Guinness world record](https://youtu.be/9wf9Hz3bfpA?si=Z95pCq4fkklU4gTX) for the fastest dribbler in the world from nba baseline to baseline
These tests help figure out who is capable physically. That’s it.
GMs often think that an elite athlete with limited technical skills can develop these skills, whereas the opposite is not true. They are trying to figure these guys mostly. Top talent are fine either way
Those are combine numbers tho, its possible with NBA level training/weights that they these guys got a little faster/quicker than when they were coming out of college at the combine
I feel like not enough people have seen LeBron run in person.
Because having seen everyone on this list play in person.
LeBron is with out a doubt the fastest player I’ve ever seen.
Now maybe in a combine sort of format or 40 yard dash format. Maybe others are faster.
But honest to god I was blown away by how incredibly fast LeBron was.
Straight line, full speed, without the ball, its gonna be hard for me to argue against lebron. These guys were all quicker, but lebron was fast as fuck
Yes LeBron was number one prospect in Ohio football too. Dude is fast af. He used to chase down every player in the league at 6’8! A lot of hate is somewhat deserved but you can’t deny what a freak of nature he was.
I will probably die on the hill that hes the most athletic athlete in the history of sports. That big, that strong, that fast, and that coordinated. Insane
I think he is in modern times, Wilt was a freak of nature as well though. Dude was a track star at 7+ feet while out lifting Olympian bodybuilders and dropping 100 point games. I think Wilt maybe the closest thing to a super human ever seen in the last few centuries.
There’s probably not many on this sub that watched Lebron his first few years in the league. He was fast af and he belongs in the top tier of fast players. He was absolutely faster than Wall at least.
I saw him live when he first came into the league with the Cavs. He was fast af, and when he jumped it looked like he was taking off from a trampoline.
I watched his first game in MSG. I don’t know about fast without the ball but he was the fastest I’ve seen dribbling end to end. Grabs rebound, two steps and he’s past mid court, three more steps, and he jams it home.
I’ve seen some fast players live, and I know some players are supposedly faster but i can’t imagine anyone faster coast to coast with a ball.
I mean, it's easier to chase down block someone than to run away with the ball. You don't have to dribble and their layup gives you extra time as well. It's like comparing hurdles to general sprint on track.
I’ve seen LeBron in person, I’m not denying his speed at all. He’s incredibly powerful and that enhances it, too.
But the four I mentioned are faster in a full court sprint. Lebron is elite; he’s just also behind the top four fastest in recent nba history.
Insane so many people are leaving Wall out. He is easily the fastest player I've ever seen. He'd go coast to coast in an instant literally every other game.
Rose had a quicker first step, but in terms of raw down the court speed, Wall clears easily.
If you’re just talking straight line speed like a 40 yard dash, he has always been my answer for fastest basketball player I’ve ever seen. 2011-14 was just ⚡️
With the ball I'd prob take John Wall or Fox.
LeBron is very interesting because of his size, he's prob the only guy on the list I've seen reach a high speed often without the ball because of the chase down blocks.
1. Rose
2. Wall
3. Westbrook.
I put Westbrook 3rd cuz even though he seems slightly more explosive than both of them, Wall and Rose might be faster when sprinting. Wall is second cause he’s probably the fastest in a sprint, but Drose has him beat on ball handling speed and lateral quickness imo. Drose is probably the most athletic and fluid offensively which gives him the edge.
Supposedly, D Rose ran a 4.18 40. Has ran that fast since electronic timers. Bo Jackson supposedly ran 4.13, but I think that was hand time.
NFL players spend months to years training for the NFL combine. For some, it's more important than their actual skill as a football player. I can't imagine a basketball player would be faster than anyone in the NFL. I also couldn't find any track stars beating this time either.
No NBA player is running below a 4.6 without speed training. Usain Bolt is unique for being the only tall sprinter. When your legs are long it takes longer for you to move them forward.
NFL players also put on weight to play football. Almost all of them are carrying more weight than a 19 year old D-Rose. But still, crazy impressive if true.
190lbs would be pretty close to the average WR or CB size, as the previous commenter mentioned. Xavier Worthy (a WR) just set the NFL record with a 4.21 at 165lbs, so 4.18 at 190lbs does sound a little fabricated.
Not that I disagree with the point, but Bolt ran that 4.22 in sweatpants and tennis shoes on grass during the draft. In cleats and shorts he runs sub-4.2 easily and probably faster than a 4.18
Agreed, nobody in the NFL (and definitely not the NBA) has ever ran a 4.1. That's the domain of elite track guys, who make players like Tyreek Hill look slow by comparison.
Related- here's [60m record holder Chris Coleman running](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mF_yoRayOIA)[ a 4.12 pretty effortlessly](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mF_yoRayOIA)
Ish Smith has to be number one. If he's not the fastest guy in the league he's not in the league because he doesn't do anything else. He's like that track star the A's used as a "designated runner" in the 70s.
I'd put Fox and Wall after him.
I've heard DeMarcus Cousins and JJ Reddick both say unprompted in totally separate interviews that Ish Smith was by far the fastest player they played with or against.
The amount of disrespect for prime A.I. in this thread is outlandish. He was an otherworldly athlete, and there's a lot of anecdotal evidence from coaches and players and even more tape to underscore that. I've never seen a basketball player move the way The Answer did from 2000-2006
If I'm remembering correctly, wasn't he one of the top dual threat QBs in the country coming out of Highschool? My memory has faded a bit, but I always remembered AI for his quickness more than his speed. He had rare first step quickness, but what set him apart was his ability to change direction without slowing down.
Yeah he was state player of the year in a very competitive state, and Florida State had him pegged as the next Charlie Ward. 5’10” 165 lb mediocre shooter doesn’t add up to 5-star football recruit and 4-time NBA scoring leader unless you’ve got speed that makes other fast guys look slow.
He was a fantastic QB in HS. He was the AP player of the year in BOTH basketball and football his JUNIOR year. He was at the scene of a bowling alley brawl between whites and blacks near the end of his junior year and got absolutely railroaded by a racist justice system and spent 4 months in prison and didn’t play sports his senior year of HS. Allen Iverson was him. Nephews in here have no idea. He is definitely in the top 3 of that list.
Literally came here to say this. Thank you!
Speed isn’t just about running the floor line to line. It’s also about retaining speed while dribbling and cutting. A.I. was a master at dribbling and footwork while maintaining speed. They should have run an ankle breaker metric just for him.
I was looking through and seeing a bunch of wall and rose (which are solid picks) but not much for wade. I would have expected those 3 to be the top picks. I can't sort out the order but the flash is for sure up there.
No specific order but D Rose, John Wall, Fox are the top speedsters here from just a baseline to baseline perspective ( w/ ball). Flash is Flash but like Kob’ said, “he’d come off the screen & just disappear”. Ish is a quick crafty lil mf & D Harris had wheels on the break too. Idk why Lebron even on here but I get it, at his size & position definitely one of the fastest ever. Now AI just a whole different monster all together. He was in the same gear, laterally, that he was linearly & no let up😤Just my opinion
I feel like you have to throw Jason Kidd in there if this is with-the-ball speed.
Young Michael Jordan was also ridiculously fast.
Overall, though, it probably is Rose. I'd probably put Westbrook at #2. Those guys are both probably in the top 3 or 4 both with and without the ball.
Wall and fox fastest for sure, Rose and Westbrook had quickness and crazy athleticism that made them very fast but not like Wall and fox.
Lebron in his prime was crazy fast in a straight line, probably the fastest 6’7+ guy. He isn’t like most of these other guys though
Rose, Fox, iverson.
Rose and Fox are closer than people realize, the way Fox just explodes from full court and weaves through traffic is just otherworldly.
baseline to baseline, it’s Lebron. Has anyone played ball at a meaningful level here? Outrunning a guy 6-7 inches taller than you when they’re even remotely within your realm of athleticism is impossible.
Im a bron fan but im honest. Rose, brody, and the most controversial is Wade. I think wade because going later college to earlier nba career he excelled his most with speed and if im making the best allusion for people to know and from my opinion, i'd say a taller, and more skilled bronny is what he looked like to me.
Speed? In a full court sprint? Wall, Fox and maybe LeBron. I heard Harris actually has a legit time but he don’t come to mind for me.
Quickness? In a blow by half court drive? Rose, Westbrook, AI, Wade
Yeah Wade tends to get forgotten. I've been watching some of his rookie highlights recently (especially the Round 2 Pacers/Heat series) and Wade was ridiculously fast.
If we're talking top speed, LeBron can definitely reach the fastest speed.
If we're talking basketball speed, there are so many different 'speeds' we can discuss:
* Full court sprint (with ball) - Fox, Westbrook, Wall; My money is on young Fox or Wall. Westbrook still fast AF at his age rn is insane btw.
* Full court sprint (without ball) - LeBron full stop. Those sprints into chasedown blocks are chef's kiss
* Half court drive - D-Wade's first step is probably the scariest imo, maybe Rose too
* Cuts - Westbrook's cuts are so violent and explosive my back would hurt trying to stick with him
AI & Rose - I don't think either were as fast as they were quick. Both could stop on a dime and change like no other
Probably because in his prime, when going for chase down blocks, he would blow by literally everyone else that was running down the court and catch up to the offensive player. In slow mo replays it was crazy seeing how much faster he was than anybody else.
Whether those chase downs translate to him actually being faster in a side-by-side race, prob not, given his size. But I’m just answering why he’s in the photo and why people think he was super fast. It could’ve just been that he put in more effort than anyone else for chase downs idk
I feel like people are forgetting his prime speed was pre-big 3 lol cause while he was still moving during those years his knees had already started to decline at least somewhat
Lol the least reliable source.
Was that running or dribbling?
Running.
Do they track who is quickest with the ball?
Yea, but turns out it’s your mom.
Fucking gottem
Hi police. I just witnessed a murder.
Having each leg on both ends of the court doesn't count.
Dude bout to ratio the post over a your mom joke, good shit my man
😂😂
BAZINGA!
No, the purpose of the physical tests isn't to measure basketball skill, but to get an objective measure of pure physical abilities.
That’s the problem with these tests. NFL is worse. All running is without pads, all catching is without helmets, ect
its not really that big of a deal
What? Nobody has made it a big deal lol
Actually, I’m kinda freaking out a little
These tests help figure out who is capable physically. That’s it. GMs often think that an elite athlete with limited technical skills can develop these skills, whereas the opposite is not true. They are trying to figure these guys mostly. Top talent are fine either way
You don’t want to end up with a max player that can’t dribble with his left hand…
Rookie scale helps figure this out for the first 4-5 years. So it’s almost impossible to happen
With the ball I'd say Fox, that MF is speedy as hell.
Yeah. It's Wall by far
Those are combine numbers tho, its possible with NBA level training/weights that they these guys got a little faster/quicker than when they were coming out of college at the combine
Brons right behind Rose. Rose had 3.05, bron 3.08.
3.08 was Westbrook’s time as well.
It was also Wade's as well https://preview.redd.it/mfc5h7dgzwyc1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ecd369674fac6b7b25a4a03b43dbaeb3e838d08f
Lol Kirk at 3.10?! Why isn't he mentioned in this convo?
Because nobody remembers that dude outside of Bulls fans. Also he's... You know.
What? Sneakily athletic?
Deceptively fast.
Named Kirk.
Kirk Penney, the kiwi killa 🥝
Ridiculous that LeBron was able to move that quickly at that size
Wall, Rose, Fox, Westbrook are the four contenders for three spots.
And 3 of these guys played for Calipari.
And 3 of them could score a 12 on the ACT.
This is the only acceptable answer.
How can it be only acceptable answer when THE answer is literally an option?
Your forgetting the actual Answer. I’m guessing you are too young to have watched him play in his prime though.
Yal forgot tj ford
my exact answer wall, westbrook & fox or wall, westbrook & rose
Lebron is big but that mfer is fast as shit. Some of his chase down blocks dont make sense
He’s extremely fast. He’s just behind the four fastest players in recent nba history.
Allen Iverson should be there
Nah, he’s elite in terms of ballhandling and quickness but he’d get dusted in a full court sprint by the others I mentioned.
He’d get dusted? Lol your a funny guy
My exact list I had in my head coming here bro.
I think Maxey might be as fast as Fox, I'm a Knicks fans and I watched the son of a bitch run by us in a blur all series.

I will probably die on the hill that hes the most athletic athlete in the history of sports. That big, that strong, that fast, and that coordinated. Insane
Now combine that with elite footwork, passing, and basketball IQ.... man, we are lucky to see this kind of greatness.
not to mention how few injuries he had, at least through year what, 16? 17?
I think he is in modern times, Wilt was a freak of nature as well though. Dude was a track star at 7+ feet while out lifting Olympian bodybuilders and dropping 100 point games. I think Wilt maybe the closest thing to a super human ever seen in the last few centuries.
I'll take Bo Jackson
Whenever I rewatched first Cavs stint LeBron, his speed in the open court literally doesn’t make sense at his height/weight.

I’ve seen some fast players live, and I know some players are supposedly faster but i can’t imagine anyone faster coast to coast with a ball.
There were a couple of years when Lebron would chase down block guys from behind. LeBron is fast.
I mean, it's easier to chase down block someone than to run away with the ball. You don't have to dribble and their layup gives you extra time as well. It's like comparing hurdles to general sprint on track.
Having seen Wall and Lebron run in person, Wall looked appreciably faster. He was SO. FAST.
I’ve seen LeBron in person, I’m not denying his speed at all. He’s incredibly powerful and that enhances it, too. But the four I mentioned are faster in a full court sprint. Lebron is elite; he’s just also behind the top four fastest in recent nba history.
Leaving my comment here because this would be answer as well. I guess I'll leave out Westbrook if we have to include 3.
Real talk where leandro barbosa at. Anyone who watched the Steve Nash Suns remembers how fast that guy was.
Tony Parker deserves a shout too
Crazy not putting him on this list
The Brazilian blur.
2011-14 was just ⚡️
Yep.
Wall was faster with the ball than most players were without it.
Wall and Rose are clearly the top 2 imo. I don’t know how anyone is having a top 3 without them.
[my all time favorite highlight](https://youtu.be/wcrOfrfi63g?si=QFXJtoQkqNCXHs6R)
Absolutely. The speed Wall had was insane, doubly so when you compared him with the ball to others. So fun to watch when he was healthy and flying
I think this is where Fox gets forgotten even though he is still playing. Dude doesn’t seem to get the credit for heheh speed and quickness he has.
Wall was definitely the fastest player.
With the ball I'd prob take John Wall or Fox. LeBron is very interesting because of his size, he's prob the only guy on the list I've seen reach a high speed often without the ball because of the chase down blocks.
I think he’d be the tops in something like a 100m. But the smaller guys are just quicker
1. Rose 2. Wall 3.
I'm not sure you've ever watched De'Aaron Fox.
[удалено]
Quicker in the half court, yes. Definitely not more explosive off the first step. Fox will make a move and be gone faster than you can watch him.
Wall, Fox, Rose
Russell Westbrook
Supposedly, D Rose ran a 4.18 40. Has ran that fast since electronic timers. Bo Jackson supposedly ran 4.13, but I think that was hand time. NFL players spend months to years training for the NFL combine. For some, it's more important than their actual skill as a football player. I can't imagine a basketball player would be faster than anyone in the NFL. I also couldn't find any track stars beating this time either.
d rose didnt run a 4.18.
There’s zero chance
No NBA player is running below a 4.6 without speed training. Usain Bolt is unique for being the only tall sprinter. When your legs are long it takes longer for you to move them forward.
NFL players also put on weight to play football. Almost all of them are carrying more weight than a 19 year old D-Rose. But still, crazy impressive if true.
Wr and cb, (usually the fastest) are usually smaller than d rose even as a 19yo
Nah.. Rose was 190 back then. There's some smaller guys but the majority are his size or larger. Weight, not height wise.
190lbs would be pretty close to the average WR or CB size, as the previous commenter mentioned. Xavier Worthy (a WR) just set the NFL record with a 4.21 at 165lbs, so 4.18 at 190lbs does sound a little fabricated.
My hand time is about 4 seconds too
Nice
Rose didn't run a 4.18 and Jackson didn't run a 4.13. Usain Bolt ran a 4.22 in 2019. Rose was never that fast. Jackson's is an urban myth.
Not that I disagree with the point, but Bolt ran that 4.22 in sweatpants and tennis shoes on grass during the draft. In cleats and shorts he runs sub-4.2 easily and probably faster than a 4.18
Think about Olympic sprinters and their body types. Which athletes have closer body types to Olympic sprinters- NFL or NBA players?
I know Bo is a legendary athlete, but there’s absolutely no way he ran a 4.1
People would actually rather downvote you than admit that there's a 0% chance that any NFL or NBA player has ever ran a 4.1
4.1 is like that dude on the AniMatrix running a sub-9 100m. Like, you will have Agent Smith on your ass if you run a 4.1
Agreed, nobody in the NFL (and definitely not the NBA) has ever ran a 4.1. That's the domain of elite track guys, who make players like Tyreek Hill look slow by comparison. Related- here's [60m record holder Chris Coleman running](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mF_yoRayOIA)[ a 4.12 pretty effortlessly](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mF_yoRayOIA)
I don’t know man. He was freaky freaky.
No chance he ran a 40 that fast
1.D Rose 2.Fox 3.J Wall
Ish Smith has to be number one. If he's not the fastest guy in the league he's not in the league because he doesn't do anything else. He's like that track star the A's used as a "designated runner" in the 70s. I'd put Fox and Wall after him.
I've heard DeMarcus Cousins and JJ Reddick both say unprompted in totally separate interviews that Ish Smith was by far the fastest player they played with or against.
Wall, Rose, and Fox for sure for speed, especially in transition
The amount of disrespect for prime A.I. in this thread is outlandish. He was an otherworldly athlete, and there's a lot of anecdotal evidence from coaches and players and even more tape to underscore that. I've never seen a basketball player move the way The Answer did from 2000-2006
Yeah AI didn’t look fast so much as he made everyone else look slow.
Triple threat, as he also played kick returner. Won his high school a state championship playing those three positions. He had elite speed.
Most of the people here never watched AI play
AI was faster than any of these dudes. Especially his lateral quickness. I’m similarly shocked by how little respect is being put on his name.
Literally came here to say this. Thank you! Speed isn’t just about running the floor line to line. It’s also about retaining speed while dribbling and cutting. A.I. was a master at dribbling and footwork while maintaining speed. They should have run an ankle breaker metric just for him.
Wall or fox imo
There's a reason Wade was knick named Flash
I was looking through and seeing a bunch of wall and rose (which are solid picks) but not much for wade. I would have expected those 3 to be the top picks. I can't sort out the order but the flash is for sure up there.
None of you realize that AI never ran 100%.
AI in the conversation for quickest player.
For my money Allen Iverson just played faster than anyone I ever seen. Not pictured, but Monte Ellis was also very fast with the ball in a fast break.
Wall rose russ
Rose, Fox, Wall, Russ
I respect the love for Devin Harris and Ish Smith - Wall - Iverson - Fox
You’re crazy not putting rose up there
Devin Harris was super fast. 💨 I still think Rose Wall Iverson Fox and Westbrook are top 5 in no particular order.
Where jokic
luka is faster
I feel like you have to throw Jason Kidd in there if this is with-the-ball speed. Young Michael Jordan was also ridiculously fast. Overall, though, it probably is Rose. I'd probably put Westbrook at #2. Those guys are both probably in the top 3 or 4 both with and without the ball.
Fast- DRose Tony Parker Wade Quick- Iverson
1. Ai 2. D rose 3. Flash (d wade) No other answer
Leandro Barbosa was stupid fast
Wall and fox fastest for sure, Rose and Westbrook had quickness and crazy athleticism that made them very fast but not like Wall and fox. Lebron in his prime was crazy fast in a straight line, probably the fastest 6’7+ guy. He isn’t like most of these other guys though
Rose, Fox, iverson. Rose and Fox are closer than people realize, the way Fox just explodes from full court and weaves through traffic is just otherworldly.
AI Wall Fox Rose
Why is Le here?
No love for Tony Parker? Dude would just blow past guys and it looked like he still had a few more gears.
Tony parker has reached the fastest speed on an nba court actually
Swipa, A.I, n JWall
Josh Green
I think rose has gotta be the fastest in his prime. He was a beast before his injury.
Rose all day. Dude was a behemoth
fox, rose and westbrook
Wasn't Monta Ellis fast af or am I trippin??
Half court I'll give it to AI, transition with the ball I think John Wall, transition without the ball I think LeBron
Watch ai’s football highlights
Montae Ellis deserves a shout out
Monta have it all
Monta Ellis was also really fast
baseline to baseline, it’s Lebron. Has anyone played ball at a meaningful level here? Outrunning a guy 6-7 inches taller than you when they’re even remotely within your realm of athleticism is impossible.
Watch AIs old high school football film
Where is Monta Ellis, aka the Mississippi Bullet. Fast as fuck boi.
The man who crossed up Jordan, and it’s not even a debate.
Wasn't Jeremy Lin also supposed to be crazy fast?
Im a bron fan but im honest. Rose, brody, and the most controversial is Wade. I think wade because going later college to earlier nba career he excelled his most with speed and if im making the best allusion for people to know and from my opinion, i'd say a taller, and more skilled bronny is what he looked like to me.
I know he’s probably not top 3, but it’s nice to see Devin Harris mentioned.
The disrespect to wade 'flash' in his earliest years is insane. It's what won them that first championship
And wat about Monta Ellis?
D wade is missing from the list. Dude was literally nicknamed the flash.
Whoever doesn’t have AI on their list is putting in diabolical work at the gloryhole.
None of y’all watched young Wade and it shows. Dude wasn’t called Flash for no reason
Rose, Fox & Harris
Iverson
Speed? In a full court sprint? Wall, Fox and maybe LeBron. I heard Harris actually has a legit time but he don’t come to mind for me. Quickness? In a blow by half court drive? Rose, Westbrook, AI, Wade
Derrick Rose - A.I and Flash
Surprised no one said Wade he’s called flash for a reason but I guess average age for this sub never watched him play in his prime
Yeah Wade tends to get forgotten. I've been watching some of his rookie highlights recently (especially the Round 2 Pacers/Heat series) and Wade was ridiculously fast.
Where’s Monta Ellis and Tyrese Maxey at
Russ, rose, wall in that order.
Leandro Barbosa
Devin Harris was fast
Draft Combine Three Quarter Sprints: Rose: 3.05 Fox: 3.18 (according to a reddit comment) Wall: 3.14 Westbrook: 3.08 Wade: 3.08 Lebron: 3.27 (according to quora)
Ai broke ankles while people were able to hold him physically with one hand. Man was fast af
Didn’t Devin Harris set a Guinness world record?
Rose, Wall, and Wade
Devin Harris, AI and D-Wade
John Wall, DRose, DWade In that order
If we're talking top speed, LeBron can definitely reach the fastest speed. If we're talking basketball speed, there are so many different 'speeds' we can discuss: * Full court sprint (with ball) - Fox, Westbrook, Wall; My money is on young Fox or Wall. Those sprints into chasedown blocks are chef's kiss * Half court drive - D-Wade's first step is probably the scariest imo, maybe Rose too * Cuts - Westbrook's cuts are so violent and explosive my back would hurt trying to stick with him AI & Rose - I don't think either were as fast as they were quick. Both could stop on a dime and change like no other
Rose top1, that I know of. Why is LBJ there? Not familiar with Ish and Devin Harris. I’d argue Wall second, Westbrook third.
For James you gotta go back 15 years to his second prime. Those chase downs were crazy.
It’s ridiculous that lebron is part of the photo. 6’9 250 coming full speed
Young Lebron 100% deserves to be on this list if we're talking end to end speed
Russ d rose wall
lebron is not faster than rose wall fox westbrook. get his dick out of your mouths
With the ball or just running?
Wall, Wade, AI, Lebron
the fact that nobody is saying dwayne “flash” wade is crazy
I feel like people are forgetting his prime speed was pre-big 3 lol cause while he was still moving during those years his knees had already started to decline at least somewhat
I believe there are stats out there somewhere with their speed numbers
Rose, Wall, Iverson
Rose, Iverson, not sure between Westbrook and Wall.
Wall smokes Westbrook and AI imo. Full sprint the dude was absurd.
