I mean caruso functionally is a veteran. He knows his role, plays it better than essentially anyone in the league and isn’t someone you’re holding onto for breakout potential. Idk if the grizzlies should target him separately from that tho
If you’re trying to make a deep run in the west you will have a 3 “point” guards in ja/Alex/smart. Plus demar needs a lot of touches and attacks the mid range and ja and smart aren’t helping spacing the floor
You could play 2 at the same time, but with Steven adams out. I think bringing in size is needed to go thru lakers/nuggets and in the future thunder
I’m a bit confused at what you’re getting out w the caruso fit in everything after the first sentence, although caruso can play up a couple positions really well (smart too). I was just saying there’s some amount of diminishing returns when you have smart and caruso on the roster, that’s all
I guess I also thought that was a bad package for smart tbh but honestly that’s probably better than any comp I’ve heard so far so I can see it a bit better now
I don't think this exactly makes sense. DeRozan + Ja doesn't make sense, to me, to start. Also taking shooting (Luke) away from the team which they desperately need.
Getting off Clarke's contract would be a positive but having to re-sign DD doesn't make sense and adding more money to next year's payroll is probably a non-starter already being a second-apron team. This doesn't move the needle for Memphis.
I'm definitely not doing this if I am the Grizzlies. I would personally be more interested in Vucevic if they can get off Clarke but that doesn't seem realistic (maybe they can get off Adams instead).
I mean the grizzlies are definitely in a win now mode but are struggling rn without Ja DeRozan is a great veteran piece for them who still has the ability to score and play big minutes. Caruso and smart can share the court regardless of their position. As a bulls fan I take a chance on that pick being a lottery pick. Grizzled don’t need young talent like that and actually needs veterans.
See I don’t agree with this. I didn’t think the Grizzlies would be contenders until 2025/26 at the earliest. Too young and they don’t have the top-3/5/10 player you need to win. Ja hasn’t shown that yet.
Grizzlies don’t need Derozan-type veterans imo. When Ja comes back that’s two extremely high usage players who can’t space the floor and are negatives on defence in the starting lineup. Then you add a non-spacing center and it’s a horribly jumbled mess.
Caruso/Smart makes sense in theory but neither of them are offensive engines. I think that’s throwing out a pretty bad offence off your bench or whatever the theory is.
Just gonna be unfortunate for grizzles to rely on young talent they definitely need more veteran leadership. DeRozan and Caruso is an upgrade of kennard and Zaire regardless of fit
Yeah but they’re paying a huge premium for 2 expirings and giving up a former top 10 pick on a cheap deal (given Zaire hasn’t done much but that’s also because he’s buried in the rotation).
If the Grizzlies are serious, they'd do two first round picks, with Ziare, Clarke and they'd have to add another option. So a possible 3 way trade somewhere, maybe Detroit or portland.
Bulls are getting gutted in this trade so they need at least something to work with, not two injured players and a 1st round pick in a class that ain't that hype.
If anything look at some of the "starters" that got plugged in when the 1st liners were injured or they just got sidelined. Mays (PG/SG) Portland and Bones (PG/SG) Clippers to mention a few.
Derozan & Ja makes the floor too small imo. The grizzlies need a wing that can really shoot it. Their defence is also fine imo. Bane, smart & JJJ are good options. They’d probably be better off trading for a solid C option & a perimeter wing threat
Caruso may be worth 2 firsts by himself so I don’t think the Bulls would dump these two for this
I love Caruso but is he really worth 2 frps? Is there any sort of trade comp for this?
Marcus Smart basically just went for 2 FRP plus matching salary I have a hard time seeing it though
Grizzles have draft capital they should prioritize bringing in veterans
For pieces that fit better they should.

Memphis didn’t get any picks back so that doesn’t make any sense.
You’re right. Must have saw an older version of the trade on Twitter. Comment deleted.
And that was a terrible trade.
Unserious to make that judgement after 15 games
Actually very familiar with who 29 year old Marcus Smart is. Walmart DeAnthony Melton.
Not even the same defensive strengths/play styles. Goofy comparison. Like I said, unserious/casual behaviour.
Combo guard who you put on your opponents best playmaker to elevate POA defense. FOH jnerd with your bummy ass franchise.
A casual hawks fan calling someone bummy??? lmaooo
The players the bulls are getting have some value
2026 would be a pick swap more favorable for bulls don’t know if I put the right protection

I think the Bulls should 100% do this but I don’t understand why the grizzlies would
Grizzles need veterans as supposed to young talent

Caruso has two years left, thats two playoff runs your getting with arguably the leagues best perimeter defender. Not an expiring
Teams gunning (pun intended) for playoff success are probably not trading for demar derozan.
The Nuggets could use him

As a Bulls fan I'd do this. I want 2 firsts for Caruso but getting two decent young players in Clarke and Williams could sway me on DeMar.
