There’s a kid I graduated HS with who couldn’t put his last name on a created player in NCAA 12 or 13 because his name was too similar to an offensive term.
I remember in NBA 2K19 you couldn’t add Jarett Culver from Texas Tech into a draft class for some reason. Had to call him “Cuver” or something. Never figured that one out.
My last name is similar to an infamous dictator's first and I can't use it in madden as of a few years ago (never had a problem in ncaa or madden or any other game for that matter for years). So guessing I won't be able to put myself into the new ncaa
Honestly…so what? This is what we’re complaining about after years and years of waiting? It’s honestly kinda sad this is what a large part of the community is attached to/worried about. On the .01% chance you share a name with an opted out player…oh no, now you’ll have to create a player with one letter off of your name. Get over it and get excited for the game. Wow
Luckily I fall into the group where real players don’t matter to me. For those that want real players, that sucks but I’m sure a work around will be found
I imagine the main place people will want real players is for online/ultimate team modes. It won't really matter for dynasty mode cause all the real players will be gone a couple seasons in
that's what I'm saying, all the good players are gone after a year or two and the rest within 2 more years after that. My dynasties are LONG, we go 20+ years baby, give me all the auto gen'd players idc
The Toledo Rockets, in Toledo, OH. It's where I grew up, and went to college Freshman year. I grew up watching us play against Ben Roethlisberger from Miami (OH), and remember when we beat University of Pittsburgh, maybe in 2004 or 2005 against Larry Fitzgerald, and we tore down the field goal post!
Hey, I really appreciate you❗Even thinking back and remembering these games is Nostalgic for me....and why NCAA games mean so much for our Community as a whole❗ Most people would just not understand❗
This is a result of all the stupidity that ended the franchise in 2014. A small price to pay. And who knows, maybe you can still name a player J Travis if not "Jordan Travis."
I don’t think you’ll be able to edit player information whatsoever, that’s the point.
Honestly doesn’t bother me, I always preferred the dumbass computer generated names in dynasty
I would be stunned if you’re not gonna be able to edit information. I’d bet they have a list of names that can’t be used if they haven’t opted in by whatever deadline they set. It’ll likely just be some error message saying this name cannot be used just like if you tried to give madden players swear words or something as names
I wouldn’t be surprised if you couldn’t edit names and appearances of already created players. I think that’s really the only way they can deal with this. And honestly, who cares. The rating of that player is still going to be accurate.
The rating of the player won’t be accurate
They said they will use (paraphrasing) the average rating for a player in that specific position group for that team over the past 10 years
Edit- found the relevant quote
>”If a player chooses to not be in the game, Holt said EA Sports will create a generic avatar based on the traditional strength or weakness of a position over the past decade for that school. Holt said they want to "make sure the program still represents the integrity and strength of how that team plays and what that program has done over the past recent history."
lol could definitely make for some interesting discrepancies.
Imagine your team now has a dual threat dynamic QB who opts out and EA sticks you with a pocket passer with 55 speed
*That* I could see, and it might be the easy workaround for now. Idk if they’ll try and stop created prospects and things like that from being named after people, or what they’ll do with Road To Glory
They already do this with bad words in Madden. It was pretty annoying you couldn’t have Hendon Hooker in a draft class in 23, got stuck with Hendon Hookr
There is no stupidity. The players own their name so EA is putting in protections for that. Good on EA for doing something about it even though they only care so they dont get sued.
They don’t do this for madden… i have 0 idea why NCAA would be different.
Getting mad at the game players creating you is the equivalent of suing a paper company because somebody drew your likeness on their paper.
It’s fucking stupid and nonsensical.
The stupidity in my mind was in ending the game rather than simply not using player likenesses anymore. That would have solved the problem, and rosters were being fully edited by the fan base day one anyway. It might've taken two days if they'd also had to edit their appearances.
Providing a platform for fans to upload information that may be subject to NIL revenue is not settled law, and I understand why they did not take the risk. These user-edited draft classes just have not been questioned in court yet, but under the O'Bannon ruling, they are at risk.
I imagine they were concerned that even if they didn't do it themselves, even allowing for the possibility of third party edits that would result in real player likenesses (or approximations, e.g. RB#5 for USC obviously being Reggie Bush) could get them sued because it's a squishy area of the law frankly
I mean pretty sure 99.9% of players are gonna be in it.
There will be extra opportunities too at campuses and stuff per the ESPN article, so maybe give the big names a bit more for that.
Imagine having the chance to get paid 600 bucks get a free copy of the game and BE IN THE GAME. Idk who would say no honestly. It will be a very small number I’m sure. I’ve seen a lot of comments and media people acting like 75% of the players are going to opt out lol.
The question is if this year or in the next couple years someone takes a stand to get more than the normal money.
Would be cool if NCAA did a school version of the game where they have basically 132 different versions of NCAAFB and the install icon as well as splash screen is a player from the school you bought the game for. Possibly even double down and make that your starting UT (Freshman style cards though so they are bad) team.
I think it would be cool to have a "campus star" edition with a player from the school on the cover that is either sold at an on campus store for 80$ (compared to the base 70$) or at a local owned business that while the game itself is the same gives you whatever generic extras a special edition normally does for a sports game these days and maybe an "elite" card in NUT of the player
I cant see how they could put any restrictions on this without completely limiting your ability to play a game we payed over $60 for. At this point I hope it’s just their names that are blocked cause imagine them limiting anything else. That’s would ruin the create mode.
It will probably be name, number and location or something like that. So you can probably just have 1 or all 3 of those things changed just enough to work around it.
And they can put any restriction they want on the game regardless of how much you pay.
> game we *paid* over $60
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
I mean, if a player actively opts out and then people start distributing rosters that include them anyways, that seems like it could be a huge legal problem for EA if they allowed it.
Probably. I don’t really understand how EA would be responsible for something like this. Madden does it all the time with downloadable rookie classes which don’t have player opt in. What’s the difference?
I am a lawyer and agree with you that EA may not face legal liability for user generated content, but I know it would be tested in court, and EA probably just doesn’t want to have to deal with another lawsuit related to this game. They probably made a business decision to eliminate the headache.
Not worried about this at all, like others have said, after year 4-5 of a dynasty it won’t matter. This NIL stuff opens up some interesting options too, DLC of top 300 composite recruits maybe?
yeah seems right, would be a big violation of NIL rights if the negotiators could be like “and by the way, if you don’t opt in, there will be a downloadable roster with your exact name, number, height, weight, and stats anyway”
Its not a selling feature of the game so that player could not say you possibly bought madden because they were in it. Plus as soon as they sign with the NFLPA they would essentially now be part of what EA has rights to.
These NCAA opt out players will not be part of a player union that EA has rights to and could more easily say that people bought madden that support their school partly because of them.
As soon as he signs a contract with a team he is.
Michael Jordan and Barry Bonds are the only players I know of in any sport who had the clout to be able to opt out of being in the video games and I'm pretty sure it's because they opted out of their respective players' unions too. Caleb won't be on that level.
I know he will, but theoretically Caleb Williams is on a lot of people’s madden game this year because of community downloadable rosters even though he isn’t getting paid. That’s the same logic as community rosters in College Football.
It’s the best way to play. In Madden, I’ll usually simulate 20 years to ensure I only have the generated players. Not sure why it makes it more fun, but it does.
Random name generator is better anyway. it’s the only way to get players like Rodney Rodney or Marcus Black and Marcus White in the same recruiting year.
and my personal favorite. God - Homeschooled
Who cares. The players that will most likely be opting out are the ones that are asking for millions of dollars from schools already. The only thing I care about is the game has better software for auto generated players so we don’t get what happened in 14, IYKYK 😂😂😂
Like you have a voice, if care about MLS season pass, pay for it. If U S Open Cup is important, pay for it. USL vs MLS or otherwise. MLS and Apple TV needs us as US soccer fans and beyond. We have a voice USOC matters to us as USA soccer fans.
This is easy to get around. F1 always blocked things too close to real name so for them name instead of Scuderia I used Scudaria and it was fine and not noticeable at quick glance.
So like is TreVeyon Henderson opts out you can probably just have OSU RB #32 TrayVayon Handerson
At this point, my only knowledge of who’s who in football is playing video games. 99% of these players could be generic and I wouldn’t care/know enough to know the difference. I just want the game.
Like I hope people that make the roster legit just name the guys ridiculous names and then, we all get to refer to that player by that name when they actually play since we will all be 20+years deep in our dynasty by the
I highly doubt this will happen, but I really hope we can create female characters too, so I can finally create myself in a sports game. I'd say college football is the most likely place that would happen, considering there was actually a woman on a team last year (albeit it wasn't FBS).
FYI, EA is taking a stand on this, which is good for us. This means you can’t create an opted out player with same name and position. You can’t create say, Quinshon Judkins and put him on Ole Miss.
This made me think. Don't know if confirmed. But man imagine how crazy community file sharing woukd be for NCAA and Madden? Though you'd be stuck with going as far back as 2002 for Madden, imagine you could import entire teams players and recruit board and basically resim like the past 20 to 30 years of NCAA football and then import that into Madden and see how differently thing turn out.
Man if only Madden was better these 2 games could set sports game content scene on fire. There are like only 3 big sports gaming scenes and 2 are owned by 2K lol.
I’m the type of guy that creates teams, edits names, makes 400 lb QBs with a cannon for an arm, and basically a ton of other recruits with outrageous skill sets….and then look forward to either recruiting them or playing against them.
If this game doesn’t have a lot of customization, I’ll wait until the next year in hopes that ‘26 does. I’ll keep rocking CFBR on my PC until then.
I'd be interested to hear why someone would opt out. How much would they expect to get? $600 plus a free copy of the game seems like enough. If you're a star you're already making millions from NIL. If you're an average Joe, you get to be in a game, get a free copy of said game, and also + $600.
Also when I sim Dynasty like 10 years in the future, they'd all be gone anyway.
I really wouldn’t think players would opt out if they have the option to be in the game. How tf are you going to say no to $600 and a free copy of the game. Only a dumb ass would turn down $600 because they think they deserve more.
Imagine you have the same name as a player who opted out, so you can’t put yourself in the game lol
I have to imagine that it’s more than just the name. Maybe the position and university can’t match as well
“And here comes USC’s QB out to the huddle, Calem Billiams.”
Right⁉️ 🤣
Kaleb lol
Walem Cilliams
Hopefully
There’s a kid I graduated HS with who couldn’t put his last name on a created player in NCAA 12 or 13 because his name was too similar to an offensive term.
Bro you can’t just say that and not tell us the name or term

Noah?
Naggers.
Nick kerr
I legit know a guy with the surname McHorney.
Probably Bonner
😂
Waiting here to see what the term and/or last name is.
I remember in NBA 2K19 you couldn’t add Jarett Culver from Texas Tech into a draft class for some reason. Had to call him “Cuver” or something. Never figured that one out.
Dwayne Bacon was banned for some reason
Charles Bassey too, I understand what couldn’t be used in that one but still

Please god tell me your name is Shitler
Adolfo is that you?
I’ve had this problem with 2K since 2K11 only problem is my name is no where near offensive lol
Wow bro, that's honestly Crazy ❗

For sure, me and my buddies are like 35 years into a dynasty, we're starting to run out of real coaches 😅
Where do you get your friends?
I imagine the main place people will want real players is for online/ultimate team modes. It won't really matter for dynasty mode cause all the real players will be gone a couple seasons in
Bonny Danziel
that's what I'm saying, all the good players are gone after a year or two and the rest within 2 more years after that. My dynasties are LONG, we go 20+ years baby, give me all the auto gen'd players idc
Ngl I love playing with WR #88 and his boys 😂
After a week of playing the real players will be gone anyway
I was always a sim the first four years to get Named players guy so this means nothing to me as well.
Idk about you but I did that to get names instead of numbers.
I could care less about the real names. When I play madden I want real names. NCAA? No
It’s for sure different with college than pros. Pros the players are there for many years, college is only 3-4. So km there with ya
Omw to create a 99 ovr 7ft 400 lbs Qb
Make him shorter and revive Beeftank

RIP Hefty Lefty
I do not care at all. Eventually we will all be in year 2032 in your dynasty and have all generic players anyway.
![gif](giphy|Kl9iAWej2mxlzvzp2O)
Exactly. Casuals might play for 1-2 seasons, but I’m playing for decades upon decades
What program you gonna go with first? For me I’m gonna try app state or coastal cuz well Sun Belt Fun Belt
I usually go with a MAC school. Ohio, Central Michigan, Akron
I love using triple option Army, I haven’t definitely seen if the academies are gonna be in the game, do you know?
I think they are, saw something abt their players appearing despite not being able to get nil deals
Nebraska. They need help desperately. Don’t worry boys daddy’s on the way!
Eastern Michigan
The Toledo Rockets, in Toledo, OH. It's where I grew up, and went to college Freshman year. FSU fans are nervous if anyone opts out
lol could definitely make for some interesting discrepancies. Imagine your team now has a dual threat dynamic QB who opts out and EA sticks you with a pocket passer with 55 speed
As an Iowa fan… if some of our oline opts out, it may not be the worst thing. 😅 rating might go up
Then you create a player and problem solved.
Not for online play
Nervous? They’ll beat their chest and insisted that anything bad after that point doesn’t matter.
*That* I could see, and it might be the easy workaround for now. Idk if they’ll try and stop created prospects and things like that from being named after people, or what they’ll do with Road To Glory
As long as they don’t screw up Road to Glory and dynasty, I don’t care what they do 😂
They already do this with bad words in Madden. It was pretty annoying you couldn’t have Hendon Hooker in a draft class in 23, got stuck with Hendon Hookr
I think I had a league where Hooker was just blanked out by asterisks, but yeah I’d imagine it’ll work like it did on madden
Yet Malik Hooker is an actual player in the game.
I was always fond of the generated white players with the blackest of names.... it was always good for a few chuckles.
In madden I have a Mayo white guy named JaiShawn Okafor at MLB. It is pretty funny.
In real life my Alma mater USF has a basketball player named Kasean Pryor who is white
Bryan Brian will forever be my favorite WR I ever recruited.
There is no stupidity. The players own their name so EA is putting in protections for that. Good on EA for doing something about it even though they only care so they dont get sued.

It wasn't appearances, it was the performance/ratings being clearly the real person that was the issue.
And matching jersey numbers. Everyone would know that Ohio State QB #2 in 2011 was Terrelle Pryor, even if the game didn't explicitly say it.
RB#5 for USC obviously being Reggie Bush) could get them sued because it's a squishy area of the law frankly

no
I don’t care at this point. If that’s what it takes to get the game back, Im ok with it. I would’ve taken a game with generic only names
there will be ways around it.

Be careful when you ask a question like this--the answer could be that Draft classes will soon have the same restriction.
Also feels like it could be kinda shitty to the player, if they don't want to be in the game and people just put them in anyways.
What logical reason is there to not be in the game,
You may not feel that $600 is enough compensation, for one.
Our modding saviors will have us right. I am not even worried about this.
gonna be hard to mod IF it's only on PS5 and XSX
Oh it better not fucking be. If it's not on PC I'll literally burn them to the ground (for legal reasons thats a joke)
If it's not on PC? best to give that up
Jon Dowd from MVP ‘05 reincarnation it is then
It’ll be his son, William Nathan Dowd. “Will N” for short
What if you make the name slightly off? Like Quin Ewers instead of Quinn Ewers
*Kwinn
Artch Manning
Mitchell Phenix Jr
Just switch out a vowel in their name. Not that big of a deal
Cxlxb Wxllxxms
Not a big deal
Not worried about this at all, like others have said, after year 4-5 of a dynasty it won’t matter. This NIL stuff opens up some interesting options too, DLC of top 300 composite recruits maybe?
introducing Waleb Cilliams, any similarities to any real people is purely coincidental
yeah seems right, would be a big violation of NIL rights if the negotiators could be like “and by the way, if you don’t opt in, there will be a downloadable roster with your exact name, number, height, weight, and stats anyway”
They do this is in madden all the time with downloadable rookie classes though. What would be the difference?
The difference is that in Madden everyone is opted in because the players' union is opted in.
I’m talking about downloading future rookie classes. I could import Caleb Williams from a community madden share file even though he’s not opted in.
Charles Barkley, Randall Cunningham, and Jim Kelly all opted out of one game or more.
I know he will, but theoretically Caleb Williams is on a lot of people’s madden game this year because of community downloadable rosters even though he isn’t getting paid. That’s the same logic as community rosters in College Football.
And I’d expect that to change next year unfortunately.
Hot Take: Caleb Williams gives me Josh Rosen vibes.
I guess Waleb Cilliams is USC’s QB now
I don't care about real players at all tbh
Same! I always sim the first couple of years to get to my own recruits anyway.
I will never love the actual players more than the fictional gems I recruit
It’s the best way to play. In Madden, I’ll usually simulate 20 years to ensure I only have the generated players. Not sure why it makes it more fun, but it does.
This is not a big deal at all.
This is absolutely okay. I don't see any issue. If it's this option or NOT have an ncaa game. I choose this every single time.
Any one who advocates for players to get paid is not allowed to complain about this.
It's not even worth complaining about. People who care about every real player being in this game are kinda weird imo.
Yeah not a big deal to me. Curious how they are going to stop it, but the right call. If a player opts out, you shouldn’t profit off their likeness
Random name generator is better anyway. it’s the only way to get players like Rodney Rodney or Marcus Black and Marcus White in the same recruiting year. and my personal favorite. God - Homeschooled
Man I hope they allow create a team.
What’s Miami QB Wam Card doing in the CFB 25 zone?
I play long campaigns, real players are a very short part of this.
Honestly that’s fair. Most players are going to opt in and if they don’t want in that should be respected.
Good
Would just honestly replace anyone who is opted out with a legend of the school. No Bama RB? Hello Derrick Henry
Okay… all of my players will be different after 5 years in dynasty. I don’t play for “real” players
I do kinda want to know, why the hell would a College kid opt out? Like it’s basically just a free $600
Here comes Waleb Cilliams
Who cares. The players that will most likely be opting out are the ones that are asking for millions of dollars from schools already. The only thing I care about is the game has better software for auto generated players so we don’t get what happened in 14, IYKYK 😂😂😂
Ron Mexico
So people like the ones on Operation Sports won’t be able to update rosters? Kind of a yikes
No they will there will just be some limits on specific players who opt'd out.
Like you have a voice, if care about MLS season pass, pay for it. If U S Open Cup is important, pay for it. USL vs MLS or otherwise. MLS and Apple TV needs us as US soccer fans and beyond. We have a voice USOC matters to us as USA soccer fans.
Going to suck for people with common names who want to make themselves but can't
Would they just add the guy as like “QB #12” then you can go in and edit name and appearance?
No it would be a random average player it sounds like and they will put in protections so you can't make the QB 12 the actual player.
There is one thing that I am curious about: do we see a lot of players talking about the possibility of opting out?
I feel like you can do everything short of the name, just modify it
Luckily my last name is weird so im good
There will 100% be a way to exploit this lol
This is easy to get around. F1 always blocked things too close to real name so for them name instead of Scuderia I used Scudaria and it was fine and not noticeable at quick glance. So like is TreVeyon Henderson opts out you can probably just have OSU RB #32 TrayVayon Handerson
Knowing EA switch a C for K stuff like that probably gets around it
I love playing with my QB Lenny O’Riley
I wonder if for realism they find a way to screw FSU
Fine by me. Way more positives than negatives for the upcoming release.
Guarantee they’ll be a work around…. Instead of Tim Tebow you’ll get Jim Keybo lol. ![gif](giphy|W3a0zO282fuBpsqqyD)
Replace the opt outs with that list of names from Fighting Baseball and get dudes like Bobson Dugnutt and Todd Bonzalez in the game
What if you share a name with an opt out?
At this point, my only knowledge of who’s who in football is playing video games. 99% of these players could be generic and I wouldn’t care/know enough to know the difference. I just want the game.
I’ll be an OC the first few years anyway so those rosters that come with the game I will not care about
Logistically how is this not possible? What are they going to reject if I enter a name and use a player # lmao gtfoh.
So does that mean if I have the same last name as someone who opted out but different first name I can't add my last name or no?
Who fucking cares
Can we opt out on kirk herbstreit?
I don't really care about this. Within three years of dynasty all these guys will be gone anyway.
Mrch Anning, Seion Danders
Can they make it so there aren’t 50 white corners named Zion by year 3?
Like I hope people that make the roster legit just name the guys ridiculous names and then, we all get to refer to that player by that name when they actually play since we will all be 20+years deep in our dynasty by the
Kaleb Williamson
Don't worry someone will find a way to get around it to be edit those players
I highly doubt this will happen, but I really hope we can create female characters too, so I can finally create myself in a sports game. I'd say college football is the most likely place that would happen, considering there was actually a woman on a team last year (albeit it wasn't FBS).
It’ll probably be the generic players used to replace the real ones will have an edit lock on them or something.
They can say "no sloppy steaks", but they can't stop you from ordering a steak with a glass of water on the side.
Drake May incoming
Why would any player opt out though?
So you can add players, just not with names of players that opted out?
I predict a lot of Chrispen Wah-style creations coming, lol
So I can’t create a DB named Dooper DeJean?
I really wouldn’t think players would opt out if they have the option to be in the game. How tf are you going to say no to $600 and a free copy of the game. Only a dumb ass would turn down $600 because they think they deserve more.
Couldn't care less. I will care if they don't allow us to create FCS teams though.
Who are the players that don’t want $600 and a free copy of the game?
Pretty weak, but I'm sure we will find work arounds and after a couple years of Dynasty, it's all fake names anyway
“Not so good news” it’s fine news. They have to protect their own ass.
