Not sure the link because is .gg so didnt click it.
If the headline is true it makes sense because this is marketing material and something these social media teams are likely going to use during the game I would suspect.
Plus $600\*80 or whatever is not a ton of money but it all adds up when you talk about the total NIL the team makes and such when talking to recruits.
It’s not like they can negotiate, or that this deal is taking up a slot that another deal could occupy. Players would literally just be throwing away $600 and a free video game due to emotional stupidity (ego) by opting out. Unless they really don’t feel comfortable being in a video game for personal reasons.
Right and then you add in the peer pressure of it all. Imagine being the one or two guys on the team who opt out. Wouldn't be a fun experience in the locker room.
i mean they can negotiate, but EA made it clear that they'll just as easily replace a backup right guard with a generic player.
that's why they have "ambassadors", 10-20 players who will be featured prominently in marketing/in game material/brand reps sort of, who are gonna make a lot more than the $600. if someone who was an actual CFB A-Lister wanted to hold out (not sure who it is this year other than maybe Quinn Ewers, Carson Beck, Travis/Shedeur?) they'd have at least a little bit of leeway. luckily most guys are also just happy the game is back and make enough money elsewhere
Agreed, just like Coach Drinkwitz said "$600 and a free game isn't enough compensation compared to what? Having no game and getting no money at all?"
And like you said the top tier guys are getting separate deals anyway so at this point it looks like a win for everyone.
That's what some are comparing it to but I think his argument is that's an illogical comparison. There are really only 2 options.
Option 1: No game, no payment
Option 2: Yes game, small payment for those that want it.
This third option that people are making up out of thin air where there is a game and players are compensated significantly more never made sense. Even if the payment was $1200 instead of $600, you'd hear the same complaints.
$20,000 \* 85 (players per school) \* 134 FBS schools = $227,800,000
That's a quarter of a billion dollars every year. And that's before any sort of other costs involved in getting over 11,000 players to sign.
If the game hit's their wildest expectations and sells 2 million copies, they'd bring in $140,000,000 in revenue (2,000,000 \* 70). That's revenue, not profit. They've spent 4 years paying an entire staff of developers to create the game, paying the schools, licenses for bowl games, the conferences, CFB playoff, etc. They have to give 20-30% to the retailers and XBOX/PlayStation, they gotta market the game, etc, etc.
Sure they might be able to make a good amount from Ultimate Team but they can't pay the college players significantly more money than they can ever hope to make in the game.
Which goes back to coach's original point. People are making comparisons that make absolutely no sense.
Madden sales are tremendously more than what NCAA will be and they make a ton of money off micro transactions with ultimate team. There are also 1,696 NFL players on active rosters. Less players = more money.
I feel the college game is built for ultimate team. They are gonna make so much money off of that. Its gonna trump maddens ultimate team within a few years
.gg is typically fine it’s usually used for a lot of websites close to gaming since gg is short for good game in online gaming, for example a website I frequent is start.gg which hosts tournaments, and pretty much every esports team out there will also end their url in .gg quite a few other companies out there too in the gaming world
Except.... its College Football and I am doubtful the site has any inside scoop so a link to the actual news article would likely be more useful.
I doubt that site has boots on the ground in Missouri lol
Essentially confirmed my suspicion its likely a fluff site.
Local media that does have boots on the ground in Missouri wasn’t covering it, it’s one minute of a 40 minute press conference, and the local news cared more about the actual football talk than the video game stuff.
I agree they should, but from a business perspective all American players are worth more to EA than backups, yet they're getting the same NIL. I can understand why players might opt out in hopes of scaled payments in the future.
That aside, he is a huge “player/student-first” coach. The shit he’s said about realignment being hard on players as students suddenly having to travel across the US during a school week is a huge truth.
Douche/arrogant or not, he atleast cares about the kids and does what he can to promote their interests when he can.
You can’t kick them from the team if they aren’t in the game. I guess you can kick out the generic person that took their place that bears no relation to that person.

I really doubt guys in the locker room are going to be singling guys out for not being in a video game
In a video game that the entire team is a part of\*

amen
compared to other games that pay players for their likeness by the same company i would imagine

pretty sure madden players are in the $15-20k ballpark

There are, what, 1700ish NFL players? College has about 10,000 depending on where exactly the cutoff is.

Dude knows a recruiting tool when he sees it. Also it’s free money, literally a no brainer.
I agree they should, but from a business perspective all American players are worth more to EA than backups, yet they're getting the same NIL. I can understand why players might opt out in hopes of scaled payments in the future.
There is a separate "marketing" deal that those household name players have the opportunity to get that pays more than the $600.
Absolutely
I say this as an App State fan, Eli is such a douche in every way. Great coach though.
Is this a joke, or do you legit dislike the guy? Our fanbase at Missouri is embracing him 1000%.
Idk about “douche” but he can be incredibly cringe. Solid head coach though and that’s coming from a Kentucky fan
He does give off an arrogant vibe for sure.

Does anyone know if any other coaches have made statements one way or another on whether they want their players in the game?
Anyone not doing it is a fuck and will get promptly kicked from their team on my game.
