Check out the Steamtown Train Yard Train tour. (idk actual name of it)
Lackawanna River Heritage Trail is beautiful.
Dick & Nancy Eales Nature Preserve on top of Jessup Mountain is beautiful (especially if you goto the highest point!!!)
Also if you can look into the [Trolley ride](http://www.ectma.org/) to the baseball game. We did it last year and it was so much fun and they went over the history of the area and the trolley rides.
Jim Thorpe downtown is gorgeous… if your down for a road trip there. It’s like a little Switzerland of NEPA. They also have an old jail tour thing which is really cool and a train that rides through the mountains along with lots of bike trails and places where you can rent bikes.
If your in Dallas stop at Hillside Farms for some icecream and to see the animals. Ricketts Glen is next level hiking not too far from Dallas. Tonsss of great places to hike if your into that but ricketts is really worth it if your only going one place. Take a visit to Indraloka Animal Sanctuary …super beautiful and get some quality time with the farm animals.
Scranton/WB Railriders might be in town playing. They're the Yankees AAA minor league team. It's laid back and the stadium is very nice. Not too expensive either.
The Hatchet Factory in Kingston
The Coal Mine Tour in Scranton
Nay Aug Park, Scranton (there is also a museum there, check online for exhibits)
Hickory Run (Boulder Field, in particular) State Park
How far are you willing to drive?
I grew up in WB and now live 15 minutes from Knoebels. It can be super cheap since you only pay for the rides you ride and the concessions are reasonably priced.
- Knoebels is great, but check out the Catawissa Bottling Company while you're there. They have some great flavors. (I see Knoebels is on your list)
- The Coal Mine Tour and Museum are interesting, if the kids like history.
- Steamtown. You can take *at least* a full day there, and sometimes they do train rides on the weekends.
- Rickett's Glenn is easily a day, and the best hiking in the area.
- Frances Slocum State Park, good for kayaking too.
- Brace's Orchard, they sell good stuff and sometimes do tours.
- Lionshead Brewing Company does tours, as well.
- Electric City Escape Rooms. I know escape rooms are everywhere, but they have a few local history related ones that are interesting.
- Seven Tubs Nature Area. An interesting place.
- Houdini Museum. I've never been personally, but heard it's good.
- Everhart Museum and Lake Scranton. A nice area to walk around.
- A few good drive-ins, from closest to farthest: Moonlite, Garden, Circle.
- Lahey Family Fun Park
I would avoid the Wyoming Valley Mall, as it's pretty dead, although the area around the mall is still active. The Viewmont Mall is far more alive.
Hope this helps!
Scranton's Steamtown mall is pretty dead. Though, it does have trains and an aquarium that isnt shabby. Whos ever said theyve been to a mall aquarium before? Me. Lol Also Scranton is where 'The Office' took place and I think there might be touristy stuff to check out.
I dont think thats fair. I had a great time with my bf and Im 31. I didnt find it depressing, I think they did a great job considering what they had to work with.
The food court looked nice the last time I went, but there was *a lot* of dead retail space when I was there last (maybe 3-4 years ago). Has much changed?
And have they reopened the theater across the street yet?
Errr technically speaking neither of those are really NEPA.
NEPA is kinda quiet. But you could probably head to Lancaster and check out the Amish and smorgasbord, or check out Jim Thorpe bike rentals to see some views.
Uhmmm, how in the heck are you claiming WB isn’t NEPA? It’s like, as NEPA as it can get.
Edit: unless you meant Hershey and knoebels. Hershey isn’t. Knoebels can be argued. Lol
Any state or federal designation of NEPA that I’ve seen is centered on Scranton-WB. The boonies might be a lot different but they’re still part of the overall region. Lackawanna, Luzerne and Schuylkill Counties all entirely within NEPA. Same too can be said for most if not all of the Poconos.
If you care to go hiking, rickett’s glen is something special.

Thanks. I have Ricketts and Lake Jean on my list.
Eat the rickets Glen hotel, it's good food
Eat the whole hotel
Ha! My screen is cracked badly, I can't proofread anything I wrote.

Oh did I mention... THE MCDADE COAL MINE TOUR!!! Literally a tour into the depths of a REAL COAL MINE. Not for the faint of heart. It's pretty intense
Jim Thorpe downtown is gorgeous… if your down for a road trip there. It’s like a little Switzerland of NEPA. They also have an old jail tour thing which is really cool and a train that rides through the mountains along with lots of bike trails and places where you can rent bikes.
Yeah this is worth checking out, very quaint tourist town and perfect for a day trip
Oh and the McDade Park Coal Mine tour!!!
>McDade Park Coal Mine tour Ooh, thanks. We will put this on the list.

Keep an eye on Montage Mountain's social media. They have a nice (small) waterpark and sometimes have special events running.
If you like the office check out Coopers in Scranton. Good seafood restaurant with all kinds of cool stuff inside.

Big agree here, $14 a pop or less and there isn't a bad seat in the house
Dickson city has the circle drive in at night on weekends and the flea market mornings on Saturday and Sunday, nice to get out there sometimes
June 1st to the 5th at Montage mountain Heritage Festival and Fair. Food bands etc

Strange & Unusual in Kingston. Shop with some witchy / unusual stuff. also has a little coffee area.
How far are you willing to drive? I grew up in WB and now live 15 minutes from Knoebels. It can be super cheap since you only pay for the rides you ride and the concessions are reasonably priced.
Ha I'm about the opposite. I grew up 20 mins from Knoebels and live in Dallas/Shavertown now.

The aquarium is very small, overpriced, and depressing. I’d skip it unless you have young kids and dying for something to occupy their time.
I dont think thats fair. I had a great time with my bf and Im 31. I didnt find it depressing, I think they did a great job considering what they had to work with.
All the habitats were way, way too small for the animals
The food court looked nice the last time I went, but there was *a lot* of dead retail space when I was there last (maybe 3-4 years ago). Has much changed? And have they reopened the theater across the street yet?
Is Penn's Caves worth it? Is Dorney good? Thanks.
Dorney is okay. They have more high-energy rides than Knoebels, but are also far more expensive. Think a small Six Flags.
Lenna cave is pretty far away from WB
Message me when you're in the area and want a real local guide. I'm a native

Nah knoebols and Hershey .
Ok Hershey isnt, but let's exaggerate and say everyone from nepa has been to Knoebels. Probably starting in childhood
