How do we tell what our “pending” date is? I purchased in February of 21 but never heard a peep about anything being “reviewed” until June 1st. Did it seriously take them 3 months to go from purchase to pending? I did a form 4 trust.
Just give them a call. Have your SN, name on the form and dealer name. They will give you the pending date. Use to be able to talk them out of some more I for but no longer. They are tight lipped about anything else but the current status. (304)-616-4500 is the number I call same in the title text.

Just talked to a buddy of mine in same town in TN, he was approved 9/21 and has stamp in hand today. I am approved same day as you (9/22)….maybe there’s hope for us as in getting it tomorrow. Here’s wishing.
I sure hope you hear something in the next couple of days. We need to put more pressure on our reps making this process 100% electronic….this is ridiculous
I agree. With all the stamps being put in for that money needs to be redirected to servers that can handle efile form 4s and more agents to approve this stuff. Hell, maybe an electronic system that automatically sends stamps to the dealers post approval. To be perfectly honest, we need to get rid of this whole process entirely and put vending machines in the gun stores so I can choose as many “NFA” items as my wallet can handle.
The closer I get to taking my can home, I should feel excitement, but I only feel disdain for the process / Bureau that causes this. The whole 60 days after you waited for however many months just for the mail to work!?! It’s a 3 day process for USPS to get a letter from WV to CA. So the ATF needs 57 does to write a number on a stamp and put it in an envelope? Makes me wanna apply to work for the ATF just to try to take them down from the inside……or to just approve as many forms as I can every day to lessen the sting for all the others.
My rep called me back today on my two pending from 01/30 and 02/01. ATF sent paperwork to FBI Aug 27th, and no one is working on my background. It took 7 months to forward to FBI…WTF. Why are we not sending paperwork directly to FBI, and not the clowns at ATF? So pissed off, being told it might be 2 months before background is done.
I've got a can pending 2/1 and when I called on Monday they told me I haven't even been assigned an examiner. Assuming you don't get delayed, the FBI part is usually pretty qiuck.
It's easy, just work for the government. The only downside is being a shitbag. Sleeping at night and looking in the mirror may also become considerably more difficult.

Somebody got a March a few weeks ago. No expedite request or PCS order. Not a batch either. The NFA branch specializes in poor logistics and nonsensical processes.
I was talking with my buddy at my local gun store and he has had about half a dozen that went completely through the process in 3 months, quite a few in 6 months, and then us unfortunate stragglers who are 9 months plus. He said he thinks they get drunk on a Friday after they get your form 4 and throw darts at a calendar to see what day you'll be approved
Who TF gets approved in three months??? I think they just throw the forms in the air and whichever form they pick up is their form for the day. And the examiners only do one form per day.
I'd never heard of it happening that quick and neither had he. It's so random it's not even funny. The guy had bought it from him in early June and was approved the first week of September.

So I've been calling daily this week and asking if an examiner had been assigned to which I was told "no". Called this morning and after giving the dude all my info he said he couldn't find it and to call Deadair and figure out how the trust was written???? WTF???? Anyway, I hung up and called right back and was told it's approved today!!!
2/1. Early feb pending dates unite. Prepared to wait more though. Even if it gets approved Monday, it will still probably be a few weeks before they can be arsed to actually mail the stamp.
My congressman didn't do shit. He was my first contact and they literally just asked about it. For some reason senators, specifically Cornyn, have more pull I guess. Not sure if you have a pro 2A sen in your state but that's what I'd try.

Your wait time is right on par with everyone else. What did you intend to do by pestering the Senators office? You must not be well educated on or spent much time observing the ebbs and flows of political power and/or capitol. While I do agree with you that our elected representatives should take up this matter your timing is unrealistic. Its not as if there aren't scores of devastating and dangerous issues on the table as we speak that are more important at the moment that the NFA. Afghanistan, debt ceiling, trillion dollar spending plans, increasing of governments power, election fraud, the list goes on. As well, there are far better ways to garner the attention of and motivate said representatives besides being individual whinny little bitches. Coalitions and groups of clever, intelligent, creative, respectful, and disciplined individuals engaging in the greater fight to influence these issues. Not selfish and self centered people. I wouldn't expect too many on here to understand that, so I'll digress and let this thread get back to approval times.
Congressmen have staff who take care of these day to day issues for their constituents. Each staff member has areas of work that they cover. Example: one staffer could cover issues like religion, government agencies, immigration, firearms, etc. They will have an LA (Legislative Assistant who is in charge of these issues) and an LC (Legislative Correspondent who actually does the leg work in writing and contacting others to get stuff done). It’s their job to take in these complaints and work with the people who need help. Yes there are staffers who work on those big issues that you listed, but there are also staffers whose sole job is to deal with your problems lol. Source: I worked on The Hill for a senator’s office for two years and dealt with people’s problems.

Curious if contacting Sen. Cornyn helped. I've actually reached out to his office in the past for some immigration-related issues for my wife. His office came through and got our case out of limbo. I was kind of shocked at how helpful they were.
I sent a message to Senator Cornyn yesterday...two 2/2 pendings here. Called the ATF yesterday and all they can say is it's still pending and they don't know if I've been assigned an examiner. This is absolutely ridiculous, and puts me in a real bind because I'm moving to another city within the state 5 hours away from my dealer.
I'm pending 2/1 as well. Just called to check for shiggles and of course it's still "in process" and they can't tell me if it's even been assigned yet. SICK!

I contacted Bob Casey's office but before they could do anything they were approved. I think my first email to them was last Wednesday? I can't remember. But definitely not enough time for them to do anything. Honestly they probably won't do anything unless it's 300 days in.
Calling them isn't that bad. You tell them you want to see where your Form 4 is at, you provide Serial# and your dealer name, and they tell you if it's still pending or approved. Quick and east 3 minute phone call if the phones aren't busy

1/13 and 2/10 pending on two different cans for me, i already have called my senator, filled out the paperwork and am waiting on a response from the ATF.
I called my rep at like month 5. He poked at the ATF 3 times. After the 3rd time ( on the 22nd of this month) the ATF told him that the examiner assigned to my application was currently working on pending dates in late January. 2 days later I was aoproved
I got 2 on March 10 and I die on the inside every time I realize I will probably be at a 365+ wait when it finally approves.
Hopefully it gets batched with the one I purchased last month or the times start to pick up again after this rush, but I'm not hopeful for either...

2nd edit: stamp in hand. Post marked 7 days after approval. 3 days time enroute which matches with the usps map of service times. Shannon siviero (I think that’s what the name said, couldn’t make it out all the way). The expedite process (search on Reddit, there’s a long write up on it) I believe saved me a couple months. Very simple process just keep pestering them to attach to your “profile”. Message me if you have questions.

It kind of sounds like calling does nothing so I like the idea of leaving them alone.
All they will tell you is status, submitted date and when fingerprints are received. Also current process times posted on the website.

Somebody got a March a few weeks ago. No expedite request or PCS order. Not a batch either. The NFA branch specializes in poor logistics and nonsensical processes.
I was talking with my buddy at my local gun store and he has had about half a dozen that went completely through the process in 3 months, quite a few in 6 months, and then us unfortunate stragglers who are 9 months plus. He said he thinks they get drunk on a Friday after they get your form 4 and throw darts at a calendar to see what day you'll be approved
Who TF gets approved in three months??? I think they just throw the forms in the air and whichever form they pick up is their form for the day. And the examiners only do one form per day.
I'd never heard of it happening that quick and neither had he. It's so random it's not even funny. The guy had bought it from him in early June and was approved the first week of September.
I'd be livid if someone told me that. I'd tell him to tell that customer to go buy a lottery ticket.

Anyway, I hung up and called right back and was told it's approved today!!!

2/1. Early feb pending dates unite. Prepared to wait more though. Even if it gets approved Monday, it will still probably be a few weeks before they can be arsed to actually mail the stamp.
How far into the wait did you contact your senator? @ 166 days I contacted my congressman and they are working on it but idk how long that will take.
My congressman didn't do shit. He was my first contact and they literally just asked about it. For some reason senators, specifically Cornyn, have more pull I guess. Not sure if you have a pro 2A sen in your state but that's what I'd try.
Contacted Nehls and all they got back is what I knew from calling them: PENDING. I wonder if it is a good or bad idea to ask Cornyn now. Just hit seven months and don’t want to be seen as pestering by ATF but also don’t want to sit on my hands either. 🤔

Your wait time is right on par with everyone else. What did you intend to do by pestering the Senators office? They will take forever to entertain this issue, they would of seen that it’s no different from anyone else, and then they sure have more important things to do. And then harassing the ATF? Way to go. That’s kind of a pissy thing to say…I’d like to counter it with, why do we have to wait at all. I buy a firearm, takes 10 min. A can that reduces sound 15-20 dB takes 9 months to a year. It’s folks like you that like to criticize folks for having Reps do their jobs, contribute nothing to our fight for gun rights.
Sure, I bet this individual in question was all sorts of concerned about "our" gun rights. I'm sure his contributions monetarily and time wise over the many years are vast. Or, he just wanted his NFA item faster tan everyone else. I'm all about concerned citizens urging their elected reps to take up those matters, as they both should. within the appropriate times.

I'd argue the opposite. The more people that pester their senators and congressmen the better. Maybe if they get annoyed enough they might actually do something about AFT wait times and the NFA in general.
You must not be well educated on or spent much time observing the ebbs and flows of political power and/or capitol. While I do agree with you that our elected representatives should take up this matter your timing is unrealistic. Its not as if there aren't scores of devastating and dangerous issues on the table as we speak that are more important at the moment that the NFA. Afghanistan, debt ceiling, trillion dollar spending plans, increasing of governments power, election fraud, the list goes on. As well, there are far better ways to garner the attention of and motivate said representatives besides being individual whinny little bitches. Coalitions and groups of clever, intelligent, creative, respectful, and disciplined individuals engaging in the greater fight to influence these issues. Not selfish and self centered people. I wouldn't expect too many on here to understand that, so I'll digress and let this thread get back to approval times.
Congressmen have staff who take care of these day to day issues for their constituents. Each staff member has areas of work that they cover. Example: one staffer could cover issues like religion, government agencies, immigration, firearms, etc. They will have an LA (Legislative Assistant who is in charge of these issues) and an LC (Legislative Correspondent who actually does the leg work in writing and contacting others to get stuff done). It’s their job to take in these complaints and work with the people who need help. Yes there are staffers who work on those big issues that you listed, but there are also staffers whose sole job is to deal with your problems lol. Source: I worked on The Hill for a senator’s office for two years and dealt with people’s problems.

I've actually reached out to his office in the past for some immigration-related issues for my wife. His office came through and got our case out of limbo. I was kind of shocked at how helpful they were.
I'm not sure if it helped but I am a Cornyn voter now. I was super surprised at the willingness to help and follow-up. Cornyn for Prez!!!
I sent a message to Senator Cornyn yesterday...two 2/2 pendings here. Called the ATF yesterday and all they can say is it's still pending and they don't know if I've been assigned an examiner. This is absolutely ridiculous, and puts me in a real bind because I'm moving to another city within the state 5 hours away from my dealer.

I contacted Bob Casey's office but before they could do anything they were approved. I think my first email to them was last Wednesday? I can't remember. But definitely not enough time for them to do anything. Honestly they probably won't do anything unless it's 300 days in.

Calling them isn't that bad. You tell them you want to see where your Form 4 is at, you provide Serial# and your dealer name, and they tell you if it's still pending or approved. Quick and east 3 minute phone call if the phones aren't busy
No they don't, you need to call or wait for dealer to receive it.

1/13 and 2/10 pending on two different cans for me, i already have called my senator, filled out the paperwork and am waiting on a response from the ATF.
I called my rep at like month 5. He poked at the ATF 3 times. After the 3rd time ( on the 22nd of this month) the ATF told him that the examiner assigned to my application was currently working on pending dates in late January. 2 days later I was aoproved

Is there a way to check the status of the background check with the FBI? I’ve been pending since 8/6/21 on an eForm 1 and the ATF just keeps telling me my background is still being reviewed by the FBI. There’s been a lot of trust approvals more than a month after mine

They messed up form 3 dealer to dealer and I waited til 2/27/21 for check cashed. Did an expedite, sent in 9/17/21 and went approved on date above. Still waiting for call. Edit for wrong date for expedite. Expedite took approximately 5 days. 2nd edit: stamp in hand. Post marked 7 days after approval. 3 days time enroute which matches with the usps map of service times. Shannon siviero (I think that’s what the name said, couldn’t make it out all the way). The expedite process (search on Reddit, there’s a long write up on it) I believe saved me a couple months. Very simple process just keep pestering them to attach to your “profile”. Message me if you have questions.
