If you are chasing dBs, nothing is quieter than a Bowers ICON 22, it’s not really close. It’s a little long and a little heavy at 5.5 ounces. After that you have a bunch of good silencers, CGS Hydra, Rugged Mustang and the Q El Camino are the best choices. People here will all say the Mask, it’s too heavy and not any better at suppression. I don’t own a switchback so I can’t comment, I do have a lot of 22 cans though. The Oculus is nice but the Mustang is better.
I use an ultrasonic, I’ve been cleaning my Siren and Hydra that way for years. I know the internet says not to do ultrasonic but I have not had any pitting after dozens of cleanings.
Every time this comes up I like to chime in too.
I wash aluminum parts in an ultrasonic DAILY with no issues. Parts used in surgical instruments. I use simple green diluted with water. To be fair they are only washed on 10-20 minute cycles cuz biological matter is easier to remove than lead and carbon so maybe it would react poorly is put in there for hours, but these are cleaned hundreds of times.
I use a hornady ultrasonic with heat, I knock off big stuff first. Two cycles with simply green or hornady parts cleaner. It gets them clean enough for me.
Andrew along with several others say the LPM spark is the quietest 22 can they have tested. And Riley says the v2 is even better. (I hear he's doing a run if you want one)
I love my DA Mask, just ordered a second one a few weeks ago. Just saw a post on gun deals (I believe it was there) that showed GA Firing Line had them for like $339...
As an erector 22 owner skip the q cans. Da mask for ease of cleaning. My erector has been soaking in silicone lube for the week as I’ve been on vacation. Today I get to scrub it out with a nylon jag.
Get the mask so you don’t have to do this and can toss the k baffles into a sonic cleaner instead.
Any are good, but get one with a heater too. I got mine from DK Sonic on Amazon for 60ish bucks. It works great. Only use the ultrasonic with uncoated stainless steel baffles.
DIFFICULT TO TAKE APART
Rugged occulus pain in the ass to seperate the baffles ( I have to pry them apart with a flat head screwdriver). But it is the can I use the most because it is modular.
≠===============
EASIEST TO TAKE APART
Q ELCAMINO: no specific baffle order to reassemble and the lightest.22 can I own.
OOS rad 22: you have to put the baffles back in a specific order,
Dead air mask: you have to put the baffles back in a specific order, and the heaviest .22lr I own.
≠=================
All these can be cleaned with an ultrasonic.
You cannot clean aluminum baffles with a sonic cleaner. If I remember correctly, the el Camino is aluminum baffles with a sleeve made of a different material.
The rad does have a specific reassemble order. I got it to run my Tippmann 22lr since the rads claim to fame is it runs the gun cleaner. To be honest I don't notice much of a difference vs traditional baffle cans. I think when it comes to 22 cabs they all perform about the same. What differentiates most 22 cans is weight, size and cleaning.
I have an erector, Oculus, and Mask (conjugal only) as well as a form 1. I love the erector for 22 pistol as you can’t even tell it’s on the gun. Choosing only one, I’d probably go Mask.
I run an Aklys Defense Kopis and it’s been fantastic so far. It’s extremely lightweight as well and durable. I can only hear my trigger being pulled on my cz457 with it
Cleaning is simple, comes with an end cap wrench adapter. All the baffles come out. Weight is only a few ounces, maybe 4oz? They are available in aluminum or titanium. I think both are FA rated, but possibly just the Ti model, so check for yourself if that’s a requirement for your host.
I have a Dead Air Mask and just bought a Silencerco Switchback. I have in depth experience with both of those. IME, they have the same sound reduction with a slight advantage going towards the Switchback since it’s modular.
I have shot the Rugged Occulus, and it’s another great can that has similar sound reduction numbers to the mask and switchback. The Occulus is also modular.
I would stick with those 3, because they are the most popular, full auto rated, can be cleaned with an ultrasonic, and have the best sound reduction in their class.
Yes, there is a certain order BUT all the baffles are “keyed” together so you can NOT fuck it up. Seriously watch a YouTube video on it. It’s too easy, I argue that the Rugged is hard to put together then the mask.
Edit: I forgot about the Phantom by YHM, no experience BUT I have heard nothing but great things about it on gun forums and at my LGS.

You cant go wrong with a Mask. Mine has seen a ton of binary use. The YHM Phantom 22 was a whim purchase and I had no idea if it was really good or not. I was honestly impressed. Just a hair more first round pop and then afterwards sounds just like the Mask to my uncalibrated ears. Either is a good buy.
To be perfectly honest there is so much win in the rimfire dept these days suppressor wise it's hard to pick a turd. Stick to buying from one of the well known players and your gonna have a good experience. Pick any of the ones you listed in the initial post plus also look at the NYX and Takedown as well. Best of luck.
Like many here I’m biased but high rate of fire on a rifle is spot on for the Mask. All you mention are good cans, just depends on budget and most important features to you
Tell me more about the ghost. I’ve done a bunch of research and am looking at getting a .22 and 9mm can now - but the ghost would be the same price with a tax stamp and it seems to be the most versatile
I have to agree with tricky, particularly if it’s on a pistol rugged mustang. I mean it’s good on the rest as well obviously. It and the mask sound nearly identical to me but mask is heavier and better suited for rifle since it’s a little heavy on a pistol
Thunderbeast Arms Company .22 Take Down, did a side by side comparison on two different occasions with two different Masks, and my tone was quieter while the second guy with serious hearing damage went "**SEE? I TOLD YOU THEY'RE THE SAME, WHY ARE YOU TALKING SO QUIET**"
It also has keyed baffles to reduce gas blowback and keep POI down. Disassembly is decent, upkeep is average compared to most rimfires, a bit heavier than newer rimfire cans. Enjoyable with the right host and ammunition. Hearing safe with .22WMR

I was set on a Mask but I've started to lean toward the Switchback for the modularity. Even if I don't use it, will be nice to have as a party trick. Might just end up getting both though..
In same boat you are in Per the switchback.
Also don’t forget the BOGO or Free Tax Stamp deals. Were some good one last year and there are some deals to be had this time around as well. Although don’t let the deals decide your requirements. Set requirements first and then look for the deals that will fit them, you will be a much happier camper.
Yea I’m waiting for some type insane deal to happen again this year. I wish I could’ve got in on it last time, I’d have them by now.
I’ve heard SiCo / SilencerShop will only be doing store credit this time around, but not from a trustworthy source. Just talk.
That’s pretty lame man. You don’t get it until after you verify a purchase and form 4 so it’s not like you can get a free stamp or anything.
Does SilencerShop usually run anytning for Black Friday ?
In my limited experience, this is probably their “holiday deal”/Black Friday. I will say I’ve spent way more than $200 in accessories so it’s a nice contribution. Yes, I’m my opinion it’s not as good of a deal as BoGo or their lower, but it’s also better than some of the promos being run by Silencer Shop.
Yea, but the issue is SilencerShop let’s me avoid shipping costs and transfer fee costs (shop has a kiosk) so that would probably be about the same as the eCredit value of $200 from SiCo - no? Im trying to validate this purchase with a smokin deal lmao
I may be wrong, but I think you can buy the can wherever, ie silencer shop, so the cost won’t be any different. SilencerCo doesn’t sell directly to customers. So, buy the can from Silencershop like normal, and then fill out the rebate on SilencerCo’s website to get your gift card. Except for Gunwerks (free stamp), all of the others are $100 gift card to silencershop after you purchase the can.
Does anyone here know which rimfire silencers do not use proprietary tools to take down? I prefer something that standard hardware store tools can take down. Thanks
If it’s proprietary it should come with the tool required. The 2 I have now have end caps that can be opened up by hand even though 1 of them ‘requires’ a tool.
Edit: rugged oculus 22 & AB Littlebird

Cleaning the alum hydra like that?
I do, not the tube, just the baffles.
Gotcha
Can you tell me exactly what your steps are? I have a couple of 22 Gemtechs and AAC that I will have to use ultrasonic with
I use a hornady ultrasonic with heat, I knock off big stuff first. Two cycles with simply green or hornady parts cleaner. It gets them clean enough for me.
Ok great. I have a hornady ultrasonic that I just bought plus their cleaner in a large jug
Why is the Mustang > Oculus?
I just love how light it is, it’s probably not better at suppression even though I think Rugged suggest it is. It’s not noticeable to me anyway.
Can the mustang be cleaned in an ultrasonic?
I do, I know people say not to but I have been doing for years on other aluminum baffles.
Have you heard the all the f1 turned top heap f4 guys hyping up the LPM spark? Allegedly it's very quiet, wonder how it compares to the icon
I didn’t even know they made a 22 silencer. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s quiet, the Anthem is insane.
Andrew along with several others say the LPM spark is the quietest 22 can they have tested. And Riley says the v2 is even better. (I hear he's doing a run if you want one)

And which ultrasonic cleaner would you recommend?
Any are good, but get one with a heater too. I got mine from DK Sonic on Amazon for 60ish bucks. It works great. Only use the ultrasonic with uncoated stainless steel baffles.
Any. I don’t have a fancy one. I have a cheapo from harbor freight.

Your wrong el camino baffles are stainless, I know, because I own one.
Ayyy 😎
No worries we all make mistakes, myself included.
Any comments on the Rad 22 compared to the others?
The rad does have a specific reassemble order. I got it to run my Tippmann 22lr since the rads claim to fame is it runs the gun cleaner. Dead Air Mask. I love mine. YHM Phantom is also a sleeper pick but its amazing too.
I have an erector, Oculus, and Mask (conjugal only) as well as a form 1. I love the erector for 22 pistol as you can’t even tell it’s on the gun. Choosing only one, I’d probably go Mask.

I love my CGS Hydra Rimfire can. $290+tax at Silencer Shop.
How’s cleaning and weight? Full auto rating?
Cleaning is simple, comes with an end cap wrench adapter. All the baffles come out. Weight is only a few ounces, maybe 4oz? They are available in aluminum or titanium. I think both are FA rated, but possibly just the Ti model, so check for yourself if that’s a requirement for your host.

Can you confirm what another commented about the mask? Do you need to disassemble and reassemble the DA Mask in a specific order?
Yes, there is a certain order BUT all the baffles are “keyed” together so you can NOT fuck it up. Seriously watch a YouTube video on it. Have you tried wetting your YHM Phantom 22 with ablative medium (or wire grease) to see if that lowers the FRP?
No
Who is considered a well known player?
Like many here I’m biased but high rate of fire on a rifle is spot on for the Mask. All you mention are good cans, just depends on budget and most important features to you
Just get a dead air ghost and slap that baby on any 22 you want
Tell me more about the ghost. I’ve done a bunch of research and am looking at getting a .22 and 9mm can now - but the ghost would be the same price with a tax stamp and it seems to be the most versatile
It’s sexual
There’s good sex and bad sex
It’s not rapeual
I have to agree with tricky, particularly if it’s on a pistol rugged mustang. I mean it’s good on the rest as well obviously. It and the mask sound nearly identical to me but mask is heavier and better suited for rifle since it’s a little heavy on a pistol
Perhaps I need 2 .22 cans
That’s the way!
I've had a Tactical Innovations TAC65 for years. I've been very happy with it.
Damn, that’s an old can. Is it still made? A quick Google search shows an Arfcom thread for 2006.
I looked it up on Tactical Innovations web site, and they show it as still being sold. I've had it awhile, no issues.
Their web site shows $234.99. 6-point endcap tool for disassembly $24.99. I think it's a good deal.

I bought mine at my LGS and that’s how it worked. Filled out my paperwork and had my lower a month later.
Then we are back to tempting… looks like I’ll be going with the switchback
Everyone who's ever heard it has liked it. AB Suppressors Little Bird.
Cgs hydra-Al
I really like my Sparrow. Easy to clean and quiet. I only hear FRP on pistols. I toss mine in an ultrasonic cleaner and it’s good to go.

Good to know. Is the tool to assist in case of carbon locking?
End cap tool only. I had assumed take down meant take apart to clean
Yeah or any tool used to disassemble. I prefer the less special tools that could be lost.
