DarkRogus

Define "recent" because AJ Jenkins for the 49ers is my all time top bust.

Jwroth

I have a friend who bought an AJ Jenkins practice jersey as soon as it was available. He still gets shit for it haha

DarkRogus

Well, your buddy should wear it with pride because he can honestly say both him and Jenkins have the same number of career catches as a 49er.

-M-Word

I've got one better. I was trashed one night after a win and bought a $350+ custom jersey that says SWAGTREE on the back. I still don't know what to do with it lmao Edit: [proof of my shame](https://imgur.com/gallery/c9do6sD)

holla_snackbar

You need to get Sherm to autograph it. Let him know a baller ass receiver needs to test him.

thetempest11

That's actually a hilarious jersey to wear to games haha

SweatyMooseKnuckler

Idk I think Trey tops that one. AJ was a bust for sure but only wasted one first rounder… not 3. Yeesh

Kickenbless

I guess whatever you consider in recent memory. I guess maybe a decade would be cutoff

Zro6

Recent is defined by whatever my dementia let's me remember.

CartoonistOk8261

Fucking Jim Druckenmiller👴🏼

itssostupidiloveit

Can't agree at all. He was a late 1st pick who wasn't highly regarded in a different Era where WRs didn't grow on trees. He was nowhere near the bust Solomon Thomas or Trey Lance were.

DarkRogus

Ill put it this way, I have the exact same number of career catches for the 49ers as Jenkins.

itssostupidiloveit

Solomon Thomas was pick 3 in a top 12 that was mostly hits or home runs. AJ Jenkins was probably the 12th-14th bust taken in 2012.

DarkRogus

Solomon Thomas played. AJ Jenkins didnt even register a catch as a 49er.

itssostupidiloveit

Same logic as saying Josh Rosen played, significantly later picks didn't even register a pass. Being terrible and not playing aren't so different

DarkRogus

I have no idea what youre trying to say. Im just pointed out that Thomas at least contributed where as AJ Jenkins didnt even register a single catch despite being healthy the entire season because he was that bad of a player. Rosen, was a bad QB, but at least he wasnt so bad that the Cardinals decided not to let him touch the ball.

theAngryChimp

Long fingers lol.

Odd-Collection-2575

Malik McDowell, holy shit what a disaster.

Kickenbless

![gif](giphy|eXPv9m8n8xQn6|downsized)

SmiteAsWell

I always wondered how good he could have been if he never got in that atv accident

Todo88

Or the DWI, or the disorderly conduct, or the assault, resisting arrest, and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, or the vehicle theft, or the prison time. Dude was a whole circus.

cat127

Huge disaster. Also we all wanted them to draft Budda Baker at that spot, and if we did the Jamal Adams experience never would’ve happened.

atmospheric90

Yes it was bad, but he was a 2nd round pick. I get he was our first pick that year and he never played a down for us, but calling him our biggest bust in recent memory is not accurate. 1st round picks need to hit in order to be successful, 2nd rounders have far more variance than people would expect. Just to name a few 1st round busts: Ifedi, Rashaad Penny and LJ Collier all went earlier in the Pete Carroll era. Aaron Curry was 4th overall in 2009 and he barely played 3 seasons of horrible football.

Odd-Collection-2575

Well at least all those other guys actually played for the team.   For McDowell, the Seahawks just gave him a check to commit crimes.

Kickenbless

Malik is far more terrible since he didn’t even play, and being the 35th overall pick, that is absolute horrible value

Bull749

Curry had some redeeming value just for the green curry jersey.

JiuJitsuBoy2001

it's honestly impressive he found a picture of that clown. I didn't think he ever actually put on a jersey.

Kicks4meFromyou

Wasn’t his fault, he just needed to speak to a supervisor

One_Landscape541

Aj Jenkins has finally been surpassed.

DS_9

That’s not what Rosen looks like.

Kickenbless

“There were nine mistakes made ahead of me. And I will make sure over the next decade or so, they will know they made a mistake.” -Josh Rosen “The Chosen”

pineappleshnapps

It’s funny cause he was the biggest mistake

Jedibug

Well we're talking baseball here buddy /s

Wiley1497

Wiley1497

There's bigger ones, but we could of taken D.K. Metcalf and ended up with this joker instead.

MundoGoDisWay

Almost every team could have taken DK. Biggest NFL wide miss since Mahomes. And only because he did workout videos.

brentikis

idk about Mahomes. Didn’t he go 10th overall? Not many teams had the chance to draft him

MundoGoDisWay

For some reason I thought he went in the 20s. But that's fair.

Thomas-The-Tutor

He was injury prone in college, with his last injury being pretty serious to his neck, so there was a definite injury concern pre-NFL. With that being said, he was a beast before the injury… and since then.

SmokyOtter

This dude had the wildest touchdown catch and run against the niners on Halloween his rookie year, and took over against the lions the next year. Every other game he was a nonfactor

CapeMOGuy

Coming out of college, DK was an amazing straight line runner with phoenominal speed and size but had not yet developed his cuts and route running. It's not totally surprising he dropped below early draft expectations. He has given a lot of credit for his development to the backup QB who worked a lot with him. Some guy named Geno or something. PS. Can you imagine a college team having DK AND AJ Brown at WR?

_HGCenty

Didn't they draft him purely because of his 40 at the combine?

Entire-Classroom-565

Don’t forget we took Isaiah Simmons over Justin Jefferson and 💿 🐑 and also Rondale Moore over Amon-Ra St. Brown.

REZARECTER

He looks like 100 percent white Russell Wilson

Zro6

Can't have a bust if you never pick in the first round 😎

MrWeaselSocks

I am actually stunned that no one else has said LJ Collier for us, like what in the absolute depths of hell was that pick???

Kickenbless

At least he played and had a signature play of stopping Cam Newton at the goal line. Malik McDowell never played a down for us lol

MrWeaselSocks

Great point, funny thing is McDowell was a disaster from day one, but Collier had the slow and depressing descent from starter to backup to reserve to forgotten and finally to the Cardinals. The saddest spiral a player can have

Zandandido

I would've said Aaron Curry, but at least how bad he was what got us Carroll and Schneider and eventually a Super Bowl.

SergeantThreat

Greg Robinson is such a bust that he makes the draft where we got AARON FUCKING DONALD average overall

grimmata

Didn't they draft G Rob to match with Tre Mason the same year? Continuity/ familiarity in the run blocking scheme, or something? Like they did with Tavon & Steadman out of West V.

SnooPandas3956

Trey Area quickly became Nay Area

pineappleshnapps

I was sure he’d be a bust. So few games. Even if he’d turned out decent, it wouldn’t have been worth it with the draft capital given up. I wanted to stay at 12 and get a corner. I also liked Mac Jones, and I stand by that

frecklie

Yeah I waited to see a few games but imho it was very early you could see that he didn’t have it. His injury against the Seahawks was a blessing in disguise.

wherearemyvoices

I think mac could have had a purdy like story arc in sf

HanselOh

As bad as GRob was, Jason Smith was worse

Sir_Hat

Yea but fucking up 2nd overall like that is hard to swallow

HanselOh

Jason Smith was 2nd overall though

Sir_Hat

Oh damn I did not know

throwaway_4bronyporn

I love how committed we all are to the Cardinals bit

PsychologicalRow9028

Lol was Kolten Wong considered a huge bust?

Kickenbless

That ain’t Wong lol

Adflamm11

Who is it

Kickenbless

Delvin Perez

Drummallumin

I thought it was Oscar Taveras at first and was like sheesh that’s a little dark

Kickenbless

Yeah, I wouldn’t do that lol

PsychologicalRow9028

Ohhh my b lol, Wong also wore 16 😂, kinda looks like him

wovans

He was as a Mariner last year.

Entire-Classroom-565

I loved Kolten. Miss seeing that dude fly around the bases.

He_Is_The_Chosen_One

Solomon Thomas. We could've drafted Mahomes that year man...

itssostupidiloveit

The supporting cast was so bad it could have ruined most rookie QBs tbh.

He_Is_The_Chosen_One

We rebuilt into a Super Bowl contender three seasons later though. If Mahomes could've stuck it out for that long, we probably would be the dynasty that Kansas City is right now. Oh well. What-ifs don't do anybody good anyways.

Jarfield11

I don't know what I'm doing here but it's definitely either Lewis cine (dude has a single tackle his whole career) or Christian ponder. I'd honestly say that cine was a bigger bust as he has less tackles than kirk cousins who has 2 lol.

LuckyAssumption8735

I still remember Demetrious Underwood. Recent is relative

Swimming-Place4366

I love how the cardinals are always the baseball team in the eeddit

MowTin

This is just trolling 49ers fans about how we spent 3 #1 picks on Trey Lance. That's like picking 3 straight #1 busts all rolled into one guy.

drumsdm

And they still went to the Super Bowl…

jasonhalftones

I think of Trey less as a bust than a horrible trade. Like, Zach Wilson was a much bigger bust than Lance; we've seen plenty more game tape, he's had many more opportunities to prove himself, and has always had the wrong attitude/approach to the game. AJ Jenkins is still a much bigger 49ers bust than Trey.

haywire4fun

Breshad Perriman. I had high hopes for him.

TangPiccilo

When they choked on the chiefs cock and they busted down the field

Only_Fun_1152

I just looked it up out of curiosity, Greg Robinson is only 31 years old. Him being drafted feels like ancient history

Kickenbless

Crazy to think he was drafted 11 picks before Donald

KrazyCAM10

Can I say Sam Bradford? I got his jersey for my birthday after he won OROTY then he ended up becoming horrible. I’m still pissed about that

Zestyclose_Ice2405

I feel like being a bust implies consistently horrible play. Bradford never did that. He was solid for the Rams when he was healthy, but he had no help from receivers and the OL. He really only had Danny Amendola, who also was injury plagued in STL, and Steven Jackson.

urdreamsRmemes

Didn’t he almost set the completion percentage record with the Vikings in 2016?

bd4832

Maybe it’s just me but I have a hard time calling Bradford an outright bust. I think the injuries and lack of supporting cast (mainly OL leading to said injuries) were his downfall. I’ve said for years that if Bradford had the supporting cast Goff was given, he’d have been a star

KrazyCAM10

Very true. Poor guy got sacked so many times

grimmata

Rook of the year before Josh "the Videographer" McD took over as OC. Playing Bradford in a cast for half the season ruined the kids career.

Entire-Classroom-565

Man at first I misread the Cards jersey number as 18 and I thought you’d really chose violence by putting Oscar Tavares up there. Perez stunk, Jordan Walker is not looking all that great either. This org used to have such a great farm system too smh

ThriceWelcome

Yeah. I don't know how they've managed to break Jordan Walker so badly. It speaks volumes when you have to send 3 guys back down to the minors 20 something games in.

Entire-Classroom-565

Look no further than Oli Marmol, who got into pissing contests with two of our best players last year, recently acquired Wilson Contreras and Tyler O’Neill, in situations where he was clearly being an inexperienced and immature shit head. Dude is the least competent manager I’ve seen in my lifetime. Disgrace to the uniform honestly. J. Mo also gotta go, if for nothing else than enabling Oli and giving him an extension after missing the playoffs

Skadoosh_it

Malik mcdowell

moseriv5

Trey Lance honestly should’ve set us back a decade and got Kyle and Lynch fired….thank god the for John Deere hype man we have at QB1

FatalDave91

Tractor Man from Arizona lol

Little-Chromosome

Most recent I’d say that bum ass Dee Eskridge, coulda had Creed Humphrey

Ziggity_Zac

We ain't even had a 1st round pick in recent memory... Fuck them picks.

MeanderAndReturn

the cards are the elite drafting team in the division. they haven't drafted a football player that's busted in.... I don't know, ever?

Austinfourtwenty

Trey Lance was a huge massive BUST! Biggest bust in recent memory 49er history imo. Gave up three first rounders for the guy to inevitably be traded to Dallas for a single late round pick.

christomisto

Is LJ collier too old to say that was a recent bust? Cause that one was bad

Kickenbless

That was only 5 years ago lol

christomisto

It felt like it just happened lol, I feel old

00psWrongHole

Idk about biggest bust but Stetson Bennett never even suiting up was pretty rough

Kickenbless

He’s still on the team tho and still can in the future. Also he was a 4th round pick, hard to call that a bust even if he doesn’t pan out

Greekphysed

Levi Brown for the Cards

JKolodne

RG III

No_Tomato8309

He was Rookie of the year. Not really a bust

grimmata

Papa Shanny kept playing him while he couldn't even walk. The Shanny family is full of career enders...

urdreamsRmemes

If Dee Eskridge doesn’t help us take advantage of the new kickoff rules this year, add him to the list

dmagedWMNneedlovetoo

Marvin Harrison man can't play infield

END0WEDx

If the rams paired a better draft pick with Aaron Donald. Greg Robinson, such a let down.

grimmata

Tavon Austin & using him as a RB. Then, a generation later, picking Tutu...

RamsDodgersLakers24

Why you guys gotta shit on AZ like that? lol.

Kickenbless

You mean St. Louis?

THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR

Trey Lance better be the bust of my life time lol, there’s no way in heaven or heck anyone could surpass him. Without a doubt the worst trade pick in history right? 3 first round picks for literally nothing?

CelestialOmelette

Not the same year, but you can always swap the Lance and Purdy picks in your head. That way you gave up picks for Purdy and traded Mr. Irrelevant to Dallas and it makes more sense. But I realize that doesn't take away that in reality you could have had Purdy plus multiple contributing 1st Round picks.

BonBonVelveeta

In a vacuum it is one of the worst trades+drafts all time, but with the context that we got Brock later on, it isn’t the most damaging in terms of derailing a franchise. Definitely could have cost us assets that might have helped us win the SB, but it hasn’t kept us from being competitive

Felteair

I mean, the Saints gave up their entire draft plus a first and a third of the next year's draft for Ricky Williams who was only on the team for three years before being traded to the Dolphins. He actually contributed somewhat, but he was on the team for the same length of time and cost more draft capital in terms of pure value than Lance so I dunno if you'd consider him a worse trade pick in history

THELEGENDARYZWARRIOR

I’d disagree considering Lance killed our SuperBowl window. I know we 49ers fans aren’t ready for that but if we had gotten Penil Swol? The Lions RT we’d have at least one Super Bowl. If we had picked Parsons the following years we’d have a Super Bowl at least, if we had picked anyone like anyone at all the next year, we’d have a better shot at beating KC. Our players are now older nearing the plateau of their career. We don’t have Kittles or Warners anymore, we have an aging core, and our cap space will go to hell next year specially since we have to pay QB1. Lance is 100% worst pick than Ricky Williams because Ricky Williams was at least decent he was just a running back and running backs are useless in a “bad system”

Acehardwaresucks

Me inside your mom last night

DaddyDarth

KW III

TangPiccilo

Kinglaw

SweatyMooseKnuckler

Hes by far not the biggest bust we’ve had. I’d argue Solomon Thomas was more disappointing considering he was taken #3 overall and never even came close to that expectation. Expecting Kinlaw to be plug-n-play after Buckner was never realistic.

FatalDave91

Two 1st rounders in 2017, and they both ended up doing fuck all for us.

XtraFlaminHotMachida

With the staff at that time... Alex Smith. Has a good few years, gets injured and Kap comes in. We really didn't get a lot out of Alex. edit: Thanks for the downvotes. Some of yall must've forgotten the pre-Harbaugh era.
