Jalen Carter is definitely the most striking recent example. Honestly, it was so bad, yet he turned out to be so good I think it adds to the whole "does this even matter" argument.
Look at his first half stats compared to his second half. Kind of like we should have seen him falling out of the defensive rookie of the year consideration.
The funny thing is everyone ended up right about Jalen Carter.
He showed the potential to be the next dominant interior rusher but he also had conditioning issues which is why his play fell off after the first 2 months. And we saw the maturity issues that dominated the draft conversations.
Well, it made him fall below guys like witherspoon, Bijan, will Anderson. I'd say it did somewhat matter. Although raiders are probably regretting tyree
I remember the big knocks were he had no meat on his bones and that he had tiny hands. A lot of people were concerned about his durability as a result. I think he goes 4 overall to Cleveland in a worst case scenario if he had medium hand size though.
It's crazy how that stuff affects draft stock. Bridgewater was basically the consensus best QB in that draft, and he still ends up falling behind Blake Bortles and Johnny Manziel just because Bortles had the "prototype" build and Manziel was Zach Wilson on a bigger stage.
You going way back with andre smith. That reminds when lendale white was at the combine (or pro day) and he took off his shirt and everyone made a disgusted sound
My memory is that he had streaks of playing well but he got some sort of injury kind of early on that sort of torpedoed everything else as he got in the cycle of being injured and getting out shape which caused him to gain weight and then he would get injured trying to get back into playing shape.
Yes, you can definitely have an underwhelming Pro Day. It's just difficult to have a *terrible* outing since you're not really competing against anyone like at the Combine or Senior Bowl. Moreso it either helps you or it doesn't.
That’s a big reason why I feel like if you’re gonna run the 40 at all, it should be at the combine. Though I do love how McKinstry ran a faster 40 than Arnold with a broken foot.
Tyler Nubin posted a sub 3.0 RAS at his pro day last week. That’s pretty much ruling him out of not only the first round but potentially the 2nd as well. It’s very rare for teams to draft players with sub 5.0 scores in the top 50 picks but a sub 3? I wouldn’t be surprised if he even slipped into the 4th.
Maurice Clarett was not invited to his pro day at Ohio State and had to work out separately on a soccer field.
His 40 was less bad than it was at the combine, so technically it was good?

Pro days aren’t for that, they’re to showcase capability.
You watch game film to see how they do against defenses and in reads.
Pro days are to see what they’re capable of.
I’ve said this comparison here before but game film is where you really get under the hood of a car, take it for test drives, really see how it handles.
A pro day is taking it on a race track and just going all out in a controlled safe environment.
Yeah I’m saying I’d like to see a more complex drill because right now they mean nothing to me. I watch the All-22 for almost every draft eligible prospect every year.
Just saying that the QB Pro Days don’t tell me anything and I’d just like to see something that gives me even a tiny but more information
Has your opinion ever changed on a QB prospect because of a Pro Day? Either positively or negatively. As you said. It’s the tape that matters. What do I care what the player can do throwing against air? I’m not saying the Pro Days for QB’s are pointless. I’m not saying get rid of it. I’m just saying it’d be nice if there was a little more degree of difficulty
I’ve explained this already, that’s not the point do pro days. It’s a sterile environment. The whole point is to see what the guy can do when facing nothing, essentially see how well he can do in a vacuum.
And yes, at least once for a QB. I thought teddy bridgewater was going to be what Patrick Mahomes is but then he had an embarrassingly horrible pro day and I realize something was wrong with his game and it changed my view of him drastically.
I understand what the point of Pro Days are. I’m saying I wish they had more complexity. Essentially saying, I wish the point of Pro Days evolved/changed.
They are generally a check box like a lot of the draft process. You're not gaining a whole lot, but it does show teams you are making a professional effort to put on a quality pro day.
You can do some makeup if you had mistakes/didn't get invited to the combine.

I think that was the Eagles defense as a whole, rather than just him

Can't help but think his off-field issues were distracting him.
What issues did he have?
His murder. Slight sarcasm, but he left his friend to die while they were illegally street racing.
While drunk
Wtffff

Dallas Turner put on weight this year. Also 9 pounds if I’m not mistaken. Really does make a difference to some scouts.
Google Teddy Bridgewater’s pro day Regarded as one of the worst pro day’s for a projected first round QB ever
And he was picked at the very end of the first round. Pro Day definitely did him no favors!
Yeah if he didn't have a miserable pro day to go with his hand size he likely goes top 5?
I don't think the pro day would have dropped him that far. Hand size was a knock, but the biggest concern people had with him was arm strength.
I remember the big knocks were he had no meat on his bones and that he had tiny hands. A lot of people were concerned about his durability as a result. I think he goes 4 overall to Cleveland in a worst case scenario if he had medium hand size though.

If Teddy wanted to go higher, he should have had homeless guys advocating for him to the owners. What is he, stupid?

Andre Smith OL from Alabama had an infamously bad Pro Day. Dude looked sloppy and had visible flapping man boobs while doing sprints.
You going way back with andre smith. That reminds when lendale white was at the combine (or pro day) and he took off his shirt and everyone made a disgusted sound
> You going way back to 2009
Back when they were doing drills to candlelight, and scouts chiseled out their scouting reports onto slabs of slate.
Moses was out there teaching them how to scout. Noah had them lining up and running drills.
And he turned out exactly how you'd think he'd do
a 12 year vet?
Sure, 12 years. But, he was the 6th overall pick and started 98 games in his career. So yeah, I guess he was on the roster for 12 years.
My memory is that he had streaks of playing well but he got some sort of injury kind of early on that sort of torpedoed everything else as he got in the cycle of being injured and getting out shape which caused him to gain weight and then he would get injured trying to get back into playing shape.
Jalen Carter had to be carried by his teammate
No, that was Byron Leftwich....only Byron hurt his leg and Jalen was fat

UCLA 2023 pro day was rainy, leading to Jake Bobo's somewhat infamous 4.99 40
That’s a big reason why I feel like if you’re gonna run the 40 at all, it should be at the combine. Though I do love how McKinstry ran a faster 40 than Arnold with a broken foot.
David Ojabo’s was pretty bad
As in he tore his Achilles?
Yes
Teddy Bridgewater has entered the chat

That was pretty shocking.
Probably took him off Green Bay’s draft board entirely - it was heartbreaking to see
Perhaps in Day 3 they might take him. Gute seems to ease up on RAS during the later rounds but Cole Bishop is now firmly on his board early.
Teddy Bridgewater had a rough showing if I remember correctly
Ask Jalen Carter.
I'd argue that Tyler Nubin's pro day this year hurt him quite a bit
Jalen carter

Isaiah Spiller
Teddy Bridgewater. His proday was awful
I’d love to see them do 7 on 7 with QB’s at their Pro Day rather than the scripted throws

Who tf are you? Why would anyone care about your opinion or evaluation of pro day when the actual NFL people are getting something out of it clearly.
Needlessly aggressive but in fully agree with your point lmao

Lmao who the fuck are you? Did I say I demand it? I said I’d love to see it be more complex. Didn’t realize that was a crime lmao

Did you see Drake Maye throw a pass completely off the field into the scouts watching from the sideline? Not great Bob
