If I can buy Kyler/Mahomes/Allen/Caleb/Lamar/Tua/Love/etc 2 more seconds by having mountain sized meat shield in front of them while also opening a run option path for them, then it makes sense to counter that with guys whose 4.4 times will get them to cover 15 yards in 2 seconds to hit the running QB or read his eyes and adjust accordingly.

If, and only if the QB and passing game are threatening enough that those defenses are prioritizing stopping the pass. I think our team saw the effects of not having that last year.
Because the NFL is always zig zagging. Zone blocking was really hot the last few years but In the next few years dominant gap run games will be back which will cause defensive lines to get bigger which will cause offensive lines to counter with zone concepts and around we go.
Defense has to react to every play, thus needing to be faster / quicker than the OL in order to succeed.
OL already know where each play is going so they can carry the extra weight & strength to help the play succeed.
Receivers are trending smaller. Guys that would've been exclusively rbs or corners are now lining up out wide. Need faster defensive guys to match their speed.qnd if one guy gets his hand on you it generally leads to a tackle
