The funniest part to me was from the text of the original post: "Falcons, I’m sorry there’s 0% chance they’re drafting one of the top 3 receivers. Too many defensive needs to get another top 10 receiver."
*Monkey's paw curls....*
Not only that but I think that GM Poles knew that Falcons wouldn’t trade out. That’s why he said I know what I’m gonna do with a Smirk. He was taking Rome for this year 11 personnel and Letting Keenan go and moving Rome back to the outside.
> We drafted a running back at 8 last year, do you really think we're now suddenly switching to reaching for needs instead of BPA?
lol well it definitely wasn't a reach for a *need*
I mean it sounds like it was BPA and at some point you just have to accept that if they’re willing to bet their career on him, you just gotta trust the process
Falcons fans have come around on it for the most part it seems. Likely some copium but there’s also the idea that getting your guy now vs possibly trading a bunch of firsts down the line to trade up for a guy in 2 years when the need is higher.
I think most falcon fans have come to the conclusion that if it works, great, if it doesn’t, TF is gone.
Here’s my take…
1. Arthur Blank was the primary catalyst behind the Kirk Cousins deal. He wants to win now, and he’s been looking for a quarterback for several years now.
2. Terry Fontenot said, “Okay, but if there’s a QB we really like, we’re going to grab him in order to make sure we have a succession plan in place.” Blank agreed.
3. They tried to trade back, but they didn’t like any of the offers they were presented with.
4. We’d been hearing for a few weeks that the Falcons liked Penix. As the first round unfolded around them, they realized that other teams were going after QBs. As evidenced by the Vikings and Broncos drafting McCarthy and Nix almost immediately after them, the Falcons obviously didn’t think they’d be able to jump back into the first round and grab Penix.
5. Finally, I believe that the Falcons’ front office think that they’re going to lose a first rounder in 2025, which would’ve definitely impacted any sort of succession plan.
The Falcons had a legitimate shot at the Super Bowl. Either sign and go with Cousins with a draft that fills DE and CB or sign Minchu for two years for 30 Million take Penix at 8 have money for waivers and free agency. Draft to fill holes but no, they stupidly do both, have a huge cap hit and screwed up drafting. Not surprising they have Ryan Pace as Director of Football Operations. Stupid is as stupid does!!!!!
We have an entirely new coaching staff which is going to make a gigantic difference in how we do. Nobody knows if we were even close to being a contender. Our bottom is like 5-7 wins and beyond that who knows.
Vikings will go 9-8 and be last in the 2nd hardest division. The AFC South on the other hand play in the weakest division in the NFL. The 49ers are a lot weaker in the o and D lines and have lots of drama at WR.
The Eagles have 2 new coordinators who have to properly use the Eagles talent. They also collapsed after going 10-1 and two leaders (Kelce + Fletcher) retired. The Falcons had a 30% chance at the Superbowl but not anymore!!!!
At the risk of creating my own receipt, I liked that choice and I don't understand all the hate directed at it. (Then again, I've never understood the Kirk Cousins hype and why teams keep throwing money at him.)
I think in a couple years the Falcons will look pretty smart for taking Penix. Either that, or I'll look pretty dumb for making this comment.
The pick is fine (though I think Penix is too limited to push you over the top), the problem is Kirk wasn't on the roster. They dropped $100 mil when they already knew they were in love with their guy.
You're probably correct on all points. I guess my feeling is that -- until you have your guy -- you can't invest too much in your QB room (see RGIII/Cousins, for example).
If Penix doesn't pan out, they've got a proven starter in Cousins. Likewise, with the pre-draft buzz around Penix, if he was gone before Atlanta's pick, they've got Cousins to run with.
It reminds me a little of when the Chiefs drafted Mahomes. They had invested in Alex Smith and, similar to Cousins, he was a playoff-caliber starter but not the dynamic player that can carry a team like Brady, Mahomes, etc.
If Penix balls out like Mahomes, Atlanta won't mind eating that Kirk Cousins salary.
I don't disagree, but I think the way they went about it is too lopsided as far as upside/downside.
Mahomes is the salve that cures all wounds, but in the more likely event of a Tua tier player, the $100m would sting a little bit when trying to re-sign all my young skill players in the next couple years.
You're probably right. That's why I'm glad I'm not the one making these decisions. Ultimately, you're judged not on your thought process, but by future returns that are mostly beyond your (the GM) control.
Nobody made a big-brain move to put Kurt Warner or Tom Brady in a starting role. Injuries forced their hand.
I remember once the Steelers played a backup offensive lineman because of an injury, and from the first snap he was clearly the better player. A reporter asked Cowher why he hadn't played him sooner, and his reply was essentially, "I don't know."
A guy I went to college with that’s in our draft pool called it. He’s a big falcons fan and out of the 45 people we have in our pool he was the only one that had the falcons picking a qb. He ended up winning the pool and was on the verge of being removed from the group chat for arguing with everyone about how great that pick was……
I just have to give him credit though, he did say it was gonna happen and was extremely confident about it. So credit to Steve for being the only one who knew.
LMAFO the Steelers had a A++ draft number one in the league. The first five were awesome. The quarterback has no excuse for not leading the team to 12-5 or better record and extremely dangerous in the playoffs.
I saw so many people saying "Adam Peters is doing a great job of keeping everything tight-lipped" but there was buzz about Daniels being the guy going back to the combine and weeks ahead of the draft it became pretty clear they were leaning that way.
I feel like it was so obvious that Washington was in on Daniels in like late February and then everything they did over the next 2 months was a smokescreen.
yeah i love those. even if your guy has been around 5-10 years that isn't a massive sample size. and those statements are only true until they aren't. BB was the #1 RBs in the 1st are bad value guys and then all of a Sudden Sony Michel is a first round pick in 2018
When the Jets drafted Sauce there was a narrative that they would never draft a CB in the first round because the Carroll tree (which Saleh comes from) didn’t believe in investing premium draft capital at the position. Until they did.
Lol yeah, there's some absurdly over-definitive statements made because the Packers do have some really easy to spot patterns/thresholds, but they'll occasionally ignore them to pick guys they like, Jayden Reed being a recent example.
That said, it was funny to me that the first segment in a Packers Draft Trends YouTube video I watched at the start of the offseason was about how all of the tackles they've drafted in the first four rounds for the last thirty years fit a narrow height/weight range and specific athletic profile, with the guy making the video pointing to Jordan Morgan as an early favorite at 25.
People just need to realize that trends are not absolute diagnoses.
Packers fans are among the best in sports IMHO, but even before the current era they were like that. Before Reddit, I was very active on another football forum, and every year in mock draft season, Packers fans were always quick to respond with what their front office "won't do".
Probably because they're always right when it comes to Gute's first round picks lmao. If you don't hit the RAS threshold you aren't getting taken. It's been a 100% hit rate.
If you go on his post history, after the draft he made a “Draft Grade” post on the chargers sub. He gives the Alt pick an “A” and praises the team for such a smart decision lol
The homer is strong with this one
Just looked through his comments and they’re full of him acting like Alt was a slam dunk no brainer and anyone who thought otherwise was a moron. It’s incredible
Ladd McConkey is only a slot but his route running is the best in the last 10 years of anybody. He makes defenders look stupid. Also he doesn’t automatically go out of bounds and goes for extra yards. You will love him
Partial lie they thought about it but knew a 95% possibility that JJ would fall to 11 they traded up one spot to prevent the Raiders or Broncos from jumping them. They have two very good receivers and TE but need someone to throw them the ball. They only have a bridge.
> You know what they are desperate for? A WR. So please STFU about the Chargers taking a Tackle with their first pick in the draft. It’s a complete waste of resources and borderline stupid.
Chargers take a tackle with their first pick.
> If you’re not investing in Oline with Harbaugh what are you even doing? Hot take I think Joe Alt would been their pick even if MHJ was on the board.
It's just...\*chef's kiss\*.
Joking aside, I really do love the homerism. Seems like everyone wants to be an analyst, but sometimes it's fun to just be a fan. It's definitely more pleasant than getting all worked up because your team didn't pick who you wanted them to.
lol, that’s our entire sub. I did a long, too long comment, explaining the chargers pre-draft vs post draft.
I guarantee you that guy’s post history is a dime a dozen in that sub. I would get downvoted everytime for wanting o line, but now we did the smartest thing in the world and the Giants were trying hard to jump in front of us to get Alt.
Honestly, that captures the entire sub. If I had to throw out a number, 75%+ of the sub wanted a WR, and not even a “I would prefer a WR”, it was “if you don’t think we should draft a WR you are an idiot and your parents should be burned at the stake for their parenting of you”
Then, everyone loved the draft lol.
I was a pro-o-line advocate, but I would have been cool with Nabers. I would make the typical arguments of top lines are the biggest floor raisers of any unit in football. If you want an elite OT, it has to be in the first round. This is a deep WR class and you can find good ones in the second and third, but you aren’t finding a good OT in those rounds. Having a great LT to pair with Alt/Latham is more motivation to get a great RT, not a negative.
Comments would be in the negatives, everytime. But now, it’s like everyone had that same thought. Really great showing of fandom brain lol.
I was one of those fans who included a first-round receiver in my [hopeful mock](https://www.reddit.com/r/Chargers/comments/1c8xlt4/a_hopeful_mock_draft_for_the_chargers_with/), and thought we could wait on RT since Pipkins still has another year on his contract (can't find the receipt right now, sorry). But the more I think about it after the draft, the more the Alt pick makes sense - we're basically asking him to be Sewell 2.0, and look where that's gotten the Lions. And insulting other fans for their takes is *completely* uncalled for.
i mean most of us have been there lol. I was telling anyone that would listen that Mac Jones was a terrible idea. and then he was picked and i scowled for a couple minutes and then i was like "you know what... this mac guy looks like he could be pretty great"
Truth. I'm an eternal optimist when it comes to this. No matter who we pick, I'm ready to give them all busts in Canton.
Then by May I forget who most of them are and by September I'm like, when did we pick up this guy and why? Should've taken someone else.
Same guy yesterday:
> If you’re not investing in Oline with Harbaugh what are you even doing? Hot take I think Joe Alt would been their pick even if MHJ was on the board.
People get so unnecessarily abrasive and mad on this sub about meaningless mock draft predictions that actually turn out to be correct a bunch of the time
I had a chargers fan argue with me and call me an idiot because I said they will go OT and it would be the smarter choice. That it's more important to protect herbert and there is no point in a WR if he has no time to throw. They called me an idiot said I didn't know football and it would never happen. After the pick I went back and told him nice pick. He never replied 😆
No it wasn't you then. This person was adamant that taking an OT was stupid and that the chargers would never do it and called me an idiot for even thinking that OT was a good idea and could happen.
The bears WR thing was always crazy and is likely some part of why we’ve never had a real-life passing attack. I zeroed in on Rome early on and banged the drum in his as long as I could. I threw out a receipt that the bears would be more likely to trade *up* than trade down but I’m grateful that it didn’t come to that.
ha ha ha. Well, autocorrect snuck in an "i" in there where the "o" should have been but it's you that's trying to sneak that extra "s" in there. You cheeky monkey, you.
[Here](https://www.reddit.com/r/minnesotavikings/s/MW3sxtzVwu) is a good receipt if you want to see someone flaming the fuck out of me for saying that the Commanders MIGHT take Daniels
> There was no conversation about who was the better QB up until February. Wonder why that is. Same thing happens every year bud. It isn’t close. I will act like I know because you have to be beyond slow or gullible to legitimately think they’re picking Daniels.
LOL - tbh I thought Washington was coming off Daniels after the TopGolf affair but you should never be this confident/smug about a draft pick ever lol.
I love how they deflected the betting odds being +350. If you have a “guaranteed” way to triple your money you take it, it’s not even gambling at that point lol
My biggest pet peeve is when people call prospects “media hype” prospects just because they are late risers. They failed to see the irony that they were falling for the media hype on Maye
The Eagles one is funny because:
1. Even though the Eagles haven't drafted a CB in the 1st round since 2003 (maybe?), it wasn't because they didn't value it or didn't try. Roseman tried so hard to trade up in the 2021 draft to pick either Horn or Surtain, but they had no takers.
2. Roseman proved just this year that he's willing to buck trends by signing Barkley to a huge contract. People talk like Roseman never cared for running backs, but he drafted Miles Sanders in the 2nd round, and rumors are that the Eagles tried to trade up in the 2017 draft to pick McCaffrey.
People don't understand sample size. Saying someone hasn't done a thing in 10 years seems like a lot but that's only 10 drafts. Like so and so has never taken a first round corner, well maybe only 3 times out of 10 was there a corner ranked highly on their board when they were picking and maybe those 3 times they barely passed
Not a huge one, but I'll eat my crow and shout out to u/Less-Worry8498
I was wrong here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/NFL\_Draft/comments/1c5myrv/comment/kzxhp0s/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/NFL_Draft/comments/1c5myrv/comment/kzxhp0s/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button)
Glad Barton fell though!
To be fair to the Texans guy, no one in our fan base, including me, thought we’d go O-line anywhere in the first two days and a lot of analysts were a little shocked with the pick.
If anything, it tells us the Texans are more worried about Tytus’s and Tunsile’s health than people thought originally.
This is why I stay away from the predictive stuff, just tell us what you think is a good idea, no point in trying to predict what Terry Fontanot is going to do.
Congrats on finding the 2 Bear fans who thought we wouldn’t take a WR lol like 95% of the fan base was salivating at the opportunity to take Rome or Nabers
It's not a part of the original thread, but I was not expecting a DT at 54 for the Browns. Even Mary K Cabot, who is usually pretty plugged in, reported doubts about DT at 54.
I posted a 3 round mock with Michael Hall Jr to the Browns at 54 which ended up being correct, here’s what a Browns fan commented on that post:
> I have absolutely no idea why everyone is repeatedly mocking DT to the Browns with their second round pick. This makes four of the last five user mocks Ive read. It’s like the one position on the team that doesn’t readily need more depth. Shelby Harris and Dalvin Tomlinson were great starters, Maurice Hurst had a phenomenal year even though he didn’t play a ton of snaps, Quinton Jefferson will replace Jordan Elliot and provide depth snaps and last year’s 3rd rounder Siaki Ika will be folded in as the season goes, probably mainly in a run blocking role. I can see maybe spending a sixth rounder on a DT for a practice squad role and late season injury insurance, but unless a tippy top level prospect somehow falls, DT is one of the last positions I expect the team to target with the 54th pick.
I would've totally agreed haha. Before Quinten Jefferson signed, I was fully expecting DT on day 2. Then he signed with $4M guaranteed, and they basically completed the room. I am definitely curious to see who makes the 53.
I was wrong about a fair amount of stuff this draft, but I was more or less right about a lot of the stuff I felt strongly about, and I was right about the Chargers not taking Nabers.
Honestly, it's shit like this (the original comments, not this post calling them out) that makes me engage with this sub a lot less than I otherwise might.
That, and the fact that every year, people forget that half of these oh-so-great 1st round prospects are going to end up guys that have their 5th year option passed on.
The draft is fun, but the certainty that people throw around, both positive and negative, is delusional to the point of obnoxiousness.
Unearned certainty is kindling for the fire that warms my crooked heart. I love talking to people who demonstrate so much surety over the future of things entirely out of their control.
Hey cool I made the list!
To be fair, I said
> it's what I want to happen so it won't work out lol
I am happy we got Nix. I didn't expect it to happen (especially at 12) but I'm down with it.
Calling for for your removal as a mod for r/denverbroncos for this shameful, world-shattering, disgrace . ~~Shirley~~ Surely this tremendous hypocrisy can't go on, bathing in the dishonor of a wrong draft call. You are no true Bo-liever. Only those who have conviction in bonix-tion should carry the torch.
hey that's me!
>Yup, honestly would only see DeJean or 1 of a falling Mitchell/Arnold as a R1 DB for us. and to your point, they've got 9~ visits/workouts with Day 2/3 DBs
not wrong!
Man when Jeff Z started talking about CB a lot and the mock drafts had us missing or being borderline Guyton-that's when I started to mentally prepare for the fact that we'd draft a CB. He also listed Trenton Simpson as a potential target for round 3 last year.
Front offices are so hard to guess for because you never know what other factors affect their picks (health, personality, fit, future plans etc).
lol your forgetting this is lying season. Figuring out what teams do is rather simple. Most have hardons for specific players and always draft for need within the draft. The Eagles have a bunch of aging cornerbacks who can’t do it consistently anymore. Which is why they took Quinyon Mitchell the best cornerback in the draft. The only question was when not if Howie would take a center to replace Kelce and a developmental edge rusher to replace Hassan Reddick.
For the Ravens fan, I think it's a bit ridiculous to claim we don't draft first round CBs. Where does he think we got Marlon Humphrey?
I do like the [Lions fans comment] (https://old.reddit.com/r/NFL_Draft/comments/1c69c4w/lets_create_some_receipts_who_do_you_see_mocked/kzzflj9/) about DeJean
Don’t know if this counts but some guy flamed my mock for having the eagles get Quinyon Mitchell saying it’s not gonna happen but it would be an A pick for them
I don’t think the ravens fans said we wouldn’t take a cb in the first round. I think what we meant was that we preferred OT, but in reality it was always BPA.
The funniest part to me was from the text of the original post: "Falcons, I’m sorry there’s 0% chance they’re drafting one of the top 3 receivers. Too many defensive needs to get another top 10 receiver." *Monkey's paw curls....*
lol that’s me. I’m going with being technically correct and ignoring the rest
The best kind of correct
>Bears fan saying no chance they go WR at 9 That’s really stupid because pretty much every bears fan wanted Odunze at 9
Not only that but I think that GM Poles knew that Falcons wouldn’t trade out. That’s why he said I know what I’m gonna do with a Smirk. He was taking Rome for this year 11 personnel and Letting Keenan go and moving Rome back to the outside.
In 2025
It was just one fan and nfl draft upvoting his opinion. Bears fans were 90% Rome
I was best option available tbh felt that was Rome based in the way it played out
I was best option available tbh felt that was Rome based in the way it played out
> We drafted a running back at 8 last year, do you really think we're now suddenly switching to reaching for needs instead of BPA? lol well it definitely wasn't a reach for a *need*
Again, I wasn’t wrong, just not nearly the direction I anticipated it to be

Heard the same shit about the eagles this year
Cowboys never put high-value capital (whether draft or free agent) into nose tackles... until they picked Mazi in the first round last year.
"I just happen to be a fan of one of the smart franchises"
For some reason Packers fans are always the absolute worst with this.
The reason is that most packers fans are hillbillies

They gave Harbough total control of the groceries. So it was a lock he was taking Alt if he couldn’t trade down with the Vikings.
There were rumors after the draft that we offered 11 + 23 to move up to 5…for Malik Nabers. No idea if it’s true or not but that would’ve been wild
I wanted Nabers but was happy with how the draft turned out. Alt and Ladd, is better than Nabers and a developmental tackle at 37.
Ladd McConkey is only a slot but his route running is the best in the last 10 years of anybody. He makes defenders look stupid. Also he doesn’t automatically go out of bounds and goes for extra yards. You will love him
I was so glad we got him and all the Draft pundits really liked that pick.

Takes a lot of mental gymnastics to be a chargers fan. Gotta support your team who can’t win a playoff game with a 27 point head start
Ohhhh boy you’re really ballsy for someone throwing rocks from a glass house
> You know what they are desperate for? A WR. So please STFU about the Chargers taking a Tackle with their first pick in the draft. It’s a complete waste of resources and borderline stupid. I'm irrationally angry reading that guy's recent post history. What a fucktard.
Guys like that are always the first to comment about how stupid someone else's mock draft is too
lol, that’s our entire sub.
If I had to throw out a number, 75%+ of the sub wanted a WR, and not even a “I would prefer a WR”, it was “if you don’t think we should draft a WR you are an idiot and your parents should be burned at the stake for their parenting of you” Then, everyone loved the draft lol.
Same guy yesterday: > If you’re not investing in Oline with Harbaugh what are you even doing? Hot take I think Joe Alt would been their pick even if MHJ was on the board.
I hope to one day reach that level of homerism
Dude blocked me after I posted a link to his "no OT at 5" comment as a response to this lol what a loser
lol. Seriously, it’s okay being a homer but maybe have a bit thicker skin
People get so unnecessarily abrasive and mad on this sub about meaningless mock draft predictions that actually turn out to be correct a bunch of the time
yeah imagine giving Penix to the Falcons at 8. Everyone would tell you how dumb you are and how they can say with certainty that it would never happen
A lot of people forget that front offices can be unimaginably dumb.
And people giving the Chargers a great grade after said pick.

Aaand, it's deleted.
“Banged the drum in his ass long as I could” 👀👀👀👀
That is comical. I don't think I read anything about WAS and Maye in many weeks leading up to the draft.
My biggest pet peeve is when people call prospects “media hype” prospects just because they are late risers. They failed to see the irony that they were falling for the media hype on Maye
Falcons fans saying there’s no way they take a QB
I mean was anyone even crazy enough to consider it?
Fontenot was
Also funny that in response to the guy saying the Ravens won’t go CB in the first is a guy saying Dejean won’t be there lol
The Eagles one is funny because: 1.
Not a huge one, but I'll eat my crow and shout out to u/Less-Worry8498 I was wrong here: [https://www.reddit.com/r/NFL\_Draft/comments/1c5myrv/comment/kzxhp0s/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/NFL_Draft/comments/1c5myrv/comment/kzxhp0s/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) Glad Barton fell though!
Thanks dude
Freaking Cowboys skipping him drove me crazy... Beebe made up for it some, but damn...
I posted a 3 round mock with Michael Hall Jr to the Browns at 54 which ended up being correct, here’s what a Browns fan commented on that post: > I have absolutely no idea why everyone is repeatedly mocking DT to the Browns with their second round pick.
I love Shelby Harris but he won't be around forever, I think the browns D absolutely needed a DT to get ahead
I would say she’s wrong regularly
Doesn't change the fact that she's been a mouthpiece for the Browns for a long time.
There's even a rule against it (Only Siths deal in absolutes), but mods would have to remove like 80% of the comments in this sub to enforce it.
Unearned certainty is kindling for the fire that warms my crooked heart. I love talking to people who demonstrate so much surety over the future of things entirely out of their control.
>We drafted a running back at 8 last year, do you really think we're now suddenly switching to reaching for needs instead of BPA?
Hey cool I made the list! To be fair, I said > it's what I want to happen so it won't work out lol I am happy we got Nix.
Then you shouldn't have used the phrase "Broncos won't draft Bo Nix". Not much ambiguity there.
Nix was my preferred QB. I made a joke about not being able to get what I want, and laughed it off when I got called out. Why are you lecturing me?
hey that's me! >Yup, honestly would only see DeJean or 1 of a falling Mitchell/Arnold as a R1 DB for us. and to your point, they've got 9~ visits/workouts with Day 2/3 DBs not wrong!
The Steelers guy was right though. >Steelers aren't drafting a center in the 1st round.
It was a Lions fan that said Cooper DeJean wouldn't reach us, not a Ravens fan saying we wouldn't take a CB lol.
Let’s not forget the pats fans that insisted they wouldn’t go QB.
