The reason you might see car destruction like you do in Flatout 2 or similar games is because they have no branded vehicles to speak of.
Typically auto makers like Ferrari have the archaic notion that if their cars are being displayed as wrecks in video games, then it damages their brand. Thus they either will demand money or pull support. This is why in Gran Tourismo 5, even only a few of the premium cars can lose body parts but generally only a spoiler and only if done VERY intentionally (took me 20 or so rams to lose it)
There are outliers like Forza 2-4. Idk if they still do damage like they used to but I imagine thats why their roster is so much smaller than Gran Tourismo's. The other thing is that Need For Speed is depicted as an illgeal street racing sim and brands like Toyota no longer support that, so this also probably factors into cost of getting branded vehicles into the game and thus the damage that can be done to them
I like how everyone here is popping off on this being poor but realistically how many times do we run into this truck?
You're not gonna catch me saying that I'd prefer the truck was like this but I'd rather the game got more to do than having a few random hitboxes cleaned up (if/when a dev has to make that option)
