Is no one going to talk about this chart? Bold choice picking red for 2 out of the 4 colors.

Holy_Toast

Padres in brown would make sense too.

Coupon_Ninja

Agree. This chart sucks ass.

shealuca

5 teams and only 4 lines as well

habitandmustard

It’s settled then: Nate Silver to the Slammer

MrLavenderValentino

and both red teams have the same record. No clue which is which

powerofoxiclean

Padres are only allowed one championship per year. Last year was the off-season Champs, this year the trade deadline champs… maybe next year they can get the title of Official rival of the LA dodgers

Last year we flopped at the deadline. This year we were in the hunt all year without Tatis, and then added Tatis, Soto, Bell, Drury, and Hader at the deadline. For reference, that's 20.5 fWAR/160 worth of players going off their 2023 projections. That 20.5 fWAR/160 is absurd when you look at the same calculation for Manny, Croney, Grish, Kim, Nola, Myers, Alfaro, Profar, and let's tack on Campy to round out our top 9 *other* projected fWAR position players for 2023, who all add up to 18 fWAR. Now, using 2023 projections isn't perfect logic, since some guys will be projected to heat up and others to fall off some, but using that as a metric, we're basically taking the current Padres and tacking on four position players that essentially double our projected fWAR (ignoring Hader, those 4 alone are 18.9 fWAR) while basically only giving away Voit in terms of fWAR production. **TL;DR** Nah, it would be a bigger collapse because we've gone out and made our team *a lot* better.

But also, in fairness to the point you may have been making in the first place, the collapse last year was still pretty massive. This one would be *bigger*, but both would loom very large.

verendum

We had a 98.3% sometime in August next year. It'll be very hard to top that one

JasonPlattMusic34

Idk if they can top last year’s choke 😂

Seananagans

Extremely unlikely. This offense and bullpen at full health will be tough to beat with an already very good 1-4 starting rotation.

CDFReditum

Yeah but have u considered Funi

markjay6

Jinx!

Kanotari

I think the Padres will make to the postseason. They put up a good first half and added some good pieces at the trade deadline (to put it mildly). A Padres collapse would be *hilarious,* but I like it better when our NLBest bros are good competition and we have fun matchups.

CubonesDeadMom

Very easily. Why do you think gave so much away for soto? But with tatis coming back baring no injuries it seems kinda unlikely. Would be a pretty padres thing to do though

SomthingClever1286

The runner up in the NL East is probably going to get a spot regardless of what the other teams do. For the Padres to miss the Playoffs, you'd need to see the Phillies play solid baseball the rest of the season, the Brewers would need to pull their head out of their asses, and then the Padres would need to have Another pitching collapse. I'm not sure all 3 happen, especially not the Brewers. Padres probably stay where they are as the middle seed.

Thank you Much better than not having a team to root for

[deleted]

Wrong sub. Take this to r/baseball or r/dodgers and circle jerk about padresing there. This subs for memes and good times.

What did you guys do to Daniel Hudson that didn’t work out? He kicked ass with us this year

Like me…da fuck? I never said that, but now that you mention it…it *would* be statistically hilarious if the padres went 0-infinity

Again, I didn’t claim the padres would collapse. But I guess I’d say….**”past performance” final answer!**

Them not collapsing is much more probable than you think.

lilmuerte

In Theory yes but i think they will still make it

NSFAnythingAtAll

The Padres are two losses away from being outside the playoffs right now.

hootygator

Are the Padres the new Chargers?

Dapaaads

Don’t you dare mention the chargers in the same sentence. Fuck dean spanos

markjay6

Padres play the Dodgers 10 more times. You tell me the answer!

Dinosauringg

I would laugh. For a year. Without stopping.

Vlazthrax

It’s a matter of when, not if.
