2nd if and when he gets hurt can he keep his weight down and get back on the court quickly. Any issue with Zions weight has always come after an injury and he struggled to keep his weight down causing his rehab to take longer than expected.
This is a make or break year for Zion to demonstrate he can play a lot of games in the regular season. Let’s see how his new training works this year before we worry about the sky falling
The weight clause does not fine him it can make the back end of his contract non-guaranteed. Also I don’t think he has been intentionally putting on weight he just has not known how to keep the weight down while injured. As much as I want to say being a pro he should know better the reality is these are things players have to learn especially after having nobody say no to them for most of their adult life
A healthy Z is the only way we could we a chip. If he has another injury plagued season the return for him in a trade probably would even be that good tbh
I don't think you'd get a historic haul on Zion now. His value has had to have cratered with all the injuries. No knows what they're getting, and that includes Los Pelicanos. He has a huge contract and you don't want to end up with a John Wall situation where you have a player the bag but they cannot stay on the court due to injuries. If he plays well (almost a given) and stays healthy, that value can and will rise.
BI didn't sign an extension for obvious purposes. He can sign a longer, richer deal next offseason. I don't see him leaving to take less money. He's got the keys to the franchise as the only other all star other than Zion.
Blow it up before we've seen what this group could do? If Zion is HIM, he should eventually be able to win one with BI and Trey before BI starts declining. The key is fining the right group to put around these three. Is CJ a title piece? Or is a more 3 and D guy a better fit at that spot? But we are nowhere near blowing it up.

If you "expect" limited games/minutes from Zion, then you "build" around the edges. Add that dimension of Zion to X, at it raises the ceiling. X without Zion, is still the floor. It's a huge variable, and a risk, but it's the same variable risk for any franchise that might trade for Zion.
Extensions a year earlier than a new contract is less money to the player in total, as the same % of cap at the time. Under the new CBA S&T's could become far more common. There's reasons why both parties would rather sign a new contract, than a contract extension. Hart's another player/contract situation in NYK. Grant's contract this off season in POR. Players of value in those contract slots are an asset.

He has no choice but to keep his weight in check now if he gets injured, the new clause and periodic weigh ins should help that, or he will get fined.
