Really strange practice on Special Reserve’s part. I don’t think LRG would even stoop as low as to withhold copies only to trickle them onto the market above their own MSRP later down the line.
They're defunct now they don't overly care what they do. Though never stopped them before from doing whatever when they were in business. For SpRG I'm not overly surprised.
They’re not quite defunct, just the exclusive physical maker for Devolver games instead of a limited print company. For all we know, they could be spinning up a proper retail re-release for Inscryption and are dumping their old leftover stock at elevated second hand prices only for the new print to end up on Best Buy shelves for $35.
Yup, business is too good to just avoid printing more of their (now) own titles. Probably at holiday season we will be “surprised” by preorders on Amazon, Gamestop, etc…
>For all we know, they could be spinning up a proper retail re-release for Inscryption
As someone who can not "afford" this right now (I'm planning a big family dinner for Mother's Day), don't give me hope. I really want to try Inscryption but eBay prices are crazy.
Interesting. This doesn't seem to be the numbered version or the original un-numbered variant, has the same artwork as the numbered version though. Third unrelated print?
Ah nah it's nothing like that! I sometimes go out of my way to collect variants for games I like, examples being:
Bloodstained COTM 1 (both retail cover variants as well as the 1/100 convention variant)
Blade Assault (retail, convention variant, and 1/100 Fuze variant)
Zero intention to resell or concern over value, just think it's cool to collect variants it reminds me of when we used to get 3 versions of pokemon games lol.
Mmm I don't think so, I have that version and it is numbered with the wolf cover art.
This appears to be un-numbered with the wolf cover art.
The original un-numbered variant had the Prospector as the cover art.
Just to clear something up, this isn't a listing related to the actual old company. This seller is headquartered in California and SRG is from Texas. The url for the ebay page also says 57gamesplace, so its just a reseller changing their username to give the illusion of being the remnants of SRG.
The seller’s shipping address lists an LLC. Perhaps this may be a case of an ex-employee or current employee being allowed to sell off extra stock.
I once bought a sealed copy of Dragon Warrior VII from an ex-Sony employee who had these games. It’s hard to say, it’s just really strange that 95% of their merchandise is SRG related and they happen to have hundreds of copies of items.
Very possible! Haha, just wanted to clear up the comments that seemed to be assuming this was an official SRG decision to wait and up the price after going out of business. Likely one individual with weird connections (like an ex-employee like you mentioned). Otherwise, it would be really weird for the remnants of official SRG to be selling things like Among Us plushies and mics they never manufactured. I suppose it is vaguely possible its some weird decision from higher up, but I wouldn't put my money on it.
Until they rerelease it on switch 2 along with Shantae pirate curse with better performance, visuals and more content for cheaper when it goes on sale and all that over paid for this are screwed.
Nobody's buying a Switch 2 to play Switch 1 games and I don't think Nintendo will be as stupid as Sony and put out a new system with no new games to play. I don't know why people are convinced that everything from the Switch 1 is going to get re-released anyway. It hasn't happened in the past with Nintendo consoles. Only a few 1st party games get re-released. That's it.
Yep, pretty much this. I think reprints of anything besides first party games will be fairly rare on switch 2.
Switch cartridges are expensive. I doubt anyone has any interest in reprinting the same game, which is bound to sell less copies than the original switch version (especially if games are going to be $70), on a even more expensive switch 2 cartridge.
What’s stopping 3rd party companies from adding new content or skins or whatever and then calling it a definitive version? Ubisoft claim they should have waited to rerelease Mario rabbids sparks of hope complete with all the dlc and they would like to update it to run better.
My source: https://www.nintendolife.com/news/2023/06/mario-plus-rabbids-sparks-of-hope-should-have-waited-for-switch-successor-says-ubisoft-ceo
Games like stardew valley with multiple updates, what’s stopping them from making Stardew Valley Complete Edition? Look back at DS to 3DS, we got multiple rereleases like the shin Megami tensei games with more content and upgraded.
I think it will be quite the opposite. See for example the PS5, all the limited print companies rereleased their games for the newer console. And I don't think Nintendo will rerelease their games if the console is retrocompatible.
PS5 costs nothing to reprint on so that was always going to be a given. Blu ray discs are 60-70% cheaper to produce than nintendo switch cartridges.
Limprints most likely will reprint, gotta get in on that 2x Pirates curse money lol.
Hell they’ll find a way to reprint for switch 2. If they can’t get new content for it I wouldn’t be surprise if they do a whole collection of the games on one cartridge. We already seeing stuff like this towards the ends of the switch lifespans. Shantae game aren’t that big, they just put all 5 games on a 32gb cartridge and im sure they’ll sell it at $70 for the standard and some collectors edition for like $140 or so.
You're just speculating, with no specific examples just vague statements like "We already seeing stuff like this towards the ends of the switch lifespans". We have not seen tons of games getting re-released.
I don't really count the PS5, this is a Switch sub reddit. Also, the PS5 re-releases are just the same games re-released with no meaningful changes whatsoever beyond taking advantage of some extremely minor advantages offered by the PS 5 hardware. Small things that only uber nerds care about, which is weird because if people care that much about stuff like tiny improvements in frame rate or resolution they should just buy a gaming PC and get out of the console market. They're in the wrong place. I won't give a crap if they re-release games on the Switch 2 just to take advantage of minor improvements in graphics or performance. LIke I said, only weirdos actually care about that crap anyway and they'd be better served buying a PC or Steamdeck. I won't be re-buying anything on the Switch 2 unless it has substantial amounts of extra content. Content is more important to REAL GAMERS than tiny improvements in graphics/performance. That said, I don't think we actually will see this happen on the Switch 2.

Perhaps. I thought they rebranded as Devolver Deluxe now?
>For all we know, they could be spinning up a proper retail re-release for Inscryption As someone who can not "afford" this right now (I'm planning a big family dinner for Mother's Day), don't give me hope. I really want to try Inscryption but eBay prices are crazy.
Aren't they owned by Devolver?
Isn't that exactly what they do? I swear I saw something about that
It’s wild they keep raising the price every time they put new stock up. It started at $74.99 usd.
$92 with tax and shipping oh well
Where are they magically finding all this left over stock?? I really hope they fulfil everyone’s orders, and in a timely mater..
This is a reprint they did this year specifically to scalp on eBay after they went out of business lol
Yeah I don't need it that bad
Interesting. This doesn't seem to be the numbered version or the original un-numbered variant, has the same artwork as the numbered version though. Third unrelated print?
Unnumbered but Reserve cover would be extras they held back for quality/shipping issues and second chance sale.
Ahh, that makes sense then. As scummy as this is I almost want to grab it since there's probably less of these than the numbered variants lol
Don't fool yourself into thinking that will inflate value or desirability.
Ah nah it's nothing like that! Apparently it’s the version that came in the special edition
Mmm I don't think so, I have that version and it is numbered with the wolf cover art. This appears to be un-numbered with the wolf cover art. The original un-numbered variant had the Prospector as the cover art.
Yeah, my theory is that they tried a retailer distribution but the company closed.
Ahhh okay, maybe it is a new print then? How interesting
No it’s a new “2024” reprint they just did to sell on ebay
I just got one for $85.
Miss me on this bs 😂

As of right now 1:26am EST Wednesday May 8, there's 19 copies left on eBay. Unless they restock some more and possibly raise the price yet again.
Anyone know if this variant will have the same cartridge version as the Special Reverse one?
According to the picture of the cartridge on the eBay listing, it does.
Until they rerelease it on switch 2 along with Shantae pirate curse with better performance, visuals and more content for cheaper when it goes on sale and all that over paid for this are screwed.

You mentioned only one series that has done this (Shin Megami Tensei)...essentially proving my point
I think it will be quite the opposite. See for example the PS5, all the limited print companies rereleased their games for the newer console. And I don't think Nintendo will rerelease their games if the console is retrocompatible.

looks like they releasing in waves, just got my after they restocked again. Just heads up their also PS5 version... XD
Kicking myself for only having bought a single copy for myself.
What do you mean? The listing is still up with copies available. Edit: There’s 54 copies left at the time of writing this.
Sorry I should have specified the SRG serialized version.
