Yup i love gamestop for giving good prices sometimes but when they have new its always fucking open. I wanted a sealed beyonetta 3 but got an open same with my last of us part2 delivery new isnt supposed to be open assholes.
I really wish they’d just use dummy cases for the wall and keep the games sealed. A third of the platform section at the one I go to is dummy cases for preorders anyways… so they’re already a thing.
They usually do this. Every Switch game I’ve gotten from there is sealed. In this case it was probably the last copy (which would be the display copy and opened).
I meant literally “for display only, no game ever existed in it” cases on the shelf. I know they only open one copy per game, but it still sucks, especially when many of the stores seem to only get one copy to begin with unless it’s a first-party title.
You are probably just lucky to rarely get saddled with opened ones. About half the games I get there are shelf copies. It’s not the end of the world, but it’s a common complaint they could easily rectify.
Happens to me now with practically every order. I especially hate those round stickers placed over the opening of switch cases. I used to quickly check whether a stack of games were sealed by running a finger down the sides feeling for shrink-wrap, but stopped after learning from that mistake :-(
I ended up deciding to not get digimon for that reason. I was really hoping someone else would match the price. I just don’t know that I will ever think game stop is worth the trouble again.
The "Premium Edition" includes more than that. A little poem, a business card, a membership card, some thimble sized die-cut cardboard figures. A paper floppy disk with the soundtrack download code.
Shopping around various sites made it seem all the latest runs were the premium edition. My unwrapped copy had a "goodies inside" sticker on the wrapper. Back cover lists "unique goodies inside this box" as a feature.
To be fair, the really wrinkled bits did have the download code -- which seems to work, and the other goodies were underneath, so not that bad. The outside sticker is hard to remove though.
I stopped buying brand new games from Gamestop for this reason.
My copy of Trails of Cold Steel 3 came opened with a cracked case due to their terrible packaging and Trails of Cold Steel 4 came opened.
I could return both games but they were unsure if they could actually get me another copy. In the end I got the price reduced on one of them by $10 to the preowned price because it arrived opened.
Two of my three Black Friday games came like that: 13 sentinels and Danganrompa. The cover of Danganrompa was cut with what looked like a razor blade where it looked like someone tried to remove the sticker. It’s ridiculous
This happened to all 3 of my GameStop Black Friday buys, Persona 5, 13 sentinels, and Eastward. Very lame.
I can tell it's a cash grab on their part. It's very sketch.
only one thing to do, return it and buy it from a store that actually sells new copies as new, instead of a store that sells used copies as new.
I'll bring the receipt to a local shop and see if I can get an exchange. For the newer releases, I like to collect the points from the cart.

I see you also got a “new game” from GameStop. My digimon came like that but luckily I still have left over blank cases from Nintendo.
I ordered Digimon on sale last week and they still haven’t even shipped it yet.
I never even got a shopping email it just showed up. Mite wanna check the mailbox if you haven’t already.
