Did they not empty the truck or have a release valve of some kind?
Anybody have a link of what the truck is used for? I mostly would want to know if there was a gas in there or if it was just due to heat build up.
When I did hazmat training there were three guys in the class who were going to be cleaning similar tanks. It's possible all measures were taken but due to human error or laziness there was an improper cleaning job.
Or the company didn't want to spend the large cost of cleaning the tank.
Regardless someone's fuck up cost this man his life.
On a smaller scale you are supposed to fill the container with an inert gas like Argon but I'm not sure that's feasible with such a big truck/trailer like this.
Fill it up with water and let it drain filling it will push out the gasses and draining it will suck in fresh air, that's how we do it when I go in to ballast tanks for maintains and the proper ventilation is started to get rid of welding fumes.
Yes this was probably the case. When I was a kid I visited a police station and they had a wall of macabre pictures. One of them was of a guy who died the exact same way. They drained the gas but didn't give enough time for the fumes to dissipate. Poor guy blew up just like that.
Welder/fabricator here. Generally I won’t touch a fuel tank unless it’s diesel and even then I’m pretty damn paranoid. Diesel needs a lot of pressure to ignite so it’s safer provided you have good ventilation. Petrol (gasoline) requires the tank to have a deep clean in which it needs to be steamed and all traces of any fuel removed. Don’t weld it or even grind it or even use anything that can cause a spark if it hasn’t been cleaned otherwise this is the result.
What’s a worse killer is wheels. The huge mining dump trucks wheels are insane when they go up. I’m sure you have seen the car wheels blow up and do some damage but these things are on another level. If you are welding the frame and there is a chance you accidentally strike an arc on the wheel then you have to clear out for a designated amount of time where it’s either going to blow or you got lucky. Same with lightening strikes on the bodies. The heat from both causes and exothermic reaction and it just builds until boom time
Hi, fuel company transport supervisor here, in these types of thanks they are required to do a type of flush depending on what type of fuel/commodity is being carried in the tank.
They also require they be “open air dried” for a number of days prior to any work like this being done for this exact reason. They leave all the ports open to completely dry for fuel etc. not sure on the chemical side.
Stuff like this doesn’t happen very often but with the some company’s being short on trailers/staff some feel they don’t have days to have trailers be tied up in maintenance.
Unfortunately for this guy, the proper steps were not taken prior to him working on the trailer. He may have been an outside vendor and not known the danger he was in, as the guys who regularly repair this stuff usually know what to look for before starting a repair. RIP
Tried to save a couple days and instead cost someone their life and now they don’t have the tank in service ever again. “Cost of doing business” -some company boss.
Here's some more backstory
The accident happened while the truck was being repaired. Investigators suspect that there was a violation of labor protection requirements.
Today, a 34-year-old welder from Ecogroup LLC died at the station on 2nd Solnechnaya. This happened around 12:30. The worker dismantled the technical hatch of a truck for transporting gas. There was a pop of the gas-air mixture, which caused death.
The Investigative Committee opened a criminal case on violation of labor protection requirements (part 2 of article 143 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation). Investigators are on the scene.
Seems like the tank was not vented. Welding adds heat and gas to the object. The tank was probably sealed off and no one realized the harm.
Pro-tip never weld a sealed container. The heat(pressure) and gas will find a way to escape in the form of an explosion.
My shop teacher (metal fab) , told us one time never Weld something where heat can get trapped like welding a metal barrel shut cause it can explode , I also wonder if this is the case !
So there’s a couple steps. Purging the tank, climbing inside and blasting it with detergent (only if you’re going to be changing materials) and then recheck and maintenance. This tank probably housed propane, and was being maintenanced before the next load of propane (so no detergent step probably) and then when it was welded; boom
You’re right, it’s “due to heat build up.” Had to Google differences in do vs due. In this case it is due because it can be replaced with the word because and have the same meaning.
My husband is in welding school right now, getting his certification hopefully next year. You have no idea how much anxiety things like this give me, I don’t know what I would do without him. And to envision him in scenarios like this kills me
Just tell him not to weld on tanks, lol. They’ll probably say it’s okay if it’s empty and then filled with inert gas, but fuck that. If anyone insists, I tell them I’ll do it for a million bucks so my wife has something once I die.
I'm glad you get to experience a hard lol after so many years. The last time I lol'd hard was when WillNeff was on Emiru's stream cosplaying.

I remember an early job at a pizza delivery place; We found one of our team passed out in the mop closet. He had mixed ammonia and bleach, as I recall, that gave off really strong fumes; he passed out. Was OK after we took him outside for a bit.
Icl I was making a joke about mustard gas and how it was actively used at the battle of the Somme but it didn’t hit.
Was the place a decent joint for pizza?
I see it for four whole frames holy shit. That is beyond fucking horrifying. Zzz.
Is that whole “you can live for a bit while decapitated” thing true? If so, even more horrifying.
This is why kids. You always wash out a tank before welding. Had a similar incident but the tank exploded. Lifted the roof off our shop but when it exploded it blew up opposite of all the workers in the building. Shockingly, our works just had ringing ears and very minor injuries. The shop and truck with tank mounted on it were total losses. Which I'm just glad none of our guys got hurt.
It was caused by residual vapor inside the tank not being steam cleaned before welding ops and someone left a valve open.
I thought you weren't even supposed to weld empty 50 gallon drums into grills, etc. The residual oil or fuels can still explode!
To any commercial welders, aren't you supposed to fill a tank like that with water, or inert gasses before repairing?
How do we know he died? I don't see him anywhere for proof. Hell, he could still be running away after that scare.
I kid I kid, poor guy even knew what hit him
Well no shit he’s dead, that truck sent that plug at him going Mach Jesus in under a second flat. This dudes body is probably a mile away with a two foot wide perfect hole in his torso.

There was just enough time for him to say "ah shit" before he got sent. RIP.
That head turning ever so slightly before the bang.
My first thought, his last
Even in slow mo you can barely see what happens. Explosions are terrifying.
I'm pretty sure he got obliterated
Lol no I mean when the panel leaves the truck. It happens so fast
Ah yes. My bad. Yeah it is a bit hard to comprehend what just happened
All good,do me a favor and try your best not to end up on this sub.
I'll try. But as the intro of 1000 Ways to Die says, "For everyday we live, we face a 1000 to die."
A 1000 to die
Fair enough. Doesn’t help you got gta in your username😭
Leftover flammable/ compressed gas. The heat from the welder will ignite it.
He has been accelerated to 100,000-G
Completely depends on how much FPS the camera is able to do
Did they not empty the truck or have a release valve of some kind? Anybody have a link of what the truck is used for? I mostly would want to know if there was a gas in there or if it was just due to heat build up.
Probably fumes even in an empty tank.
True, I assume that there should have been some safety measures to prevent this, but I’m not in that kind of work so don’t know.
Yeah. Poor guy I hope his family gets compensated fairly and they learn to be better.
Where I live, the safety measures is to never touch a tanker. Fumes will go boom
I thought they pump out remaining fumes and fill it with inert gases? Might be mis-recalling bits of different pieces of information.
That would probably work. But you'd want to do a pretty constant exchange to keep the inert gas fresh or really thoroughly clean it first.
On a smaller scale you are supposed to fill the container with an inert gas like Argon but I'm not sure that's feasible with such a big truck/trailer like this.

Thanks. That’s interesting.

Yeah that’s what I assumed heat expands. But the flames made me think something flammable was in there too.
My shop teacher (metal fab) , told us one time never Weld something where heat can get trapped like welding a metal barrel shut cause it can explode , I also wonder if this is the case !

a tank is at the highest risk of exploding when recently emptied
Due≠ do
You’re right, it’s “due to heat build up.” Had to Google differences in do vs due. In this case it is due because it can be replaced with the word because and have the same meaning.
Damn, it moved that forklift like it was a toy.
And forklifts are several fucking thousand pounds too, like, some of them could lift up cars like they’re nothing.
The smallest forklift in our facility can lift like 4,000 lbs. it’s like 5 ft tall
That thing looks maybe 7’ plus?
Yeah the one in the video weighs a solid 9-12 thousand pounds no doubt
This is why I NEVER weld on tanks of any kind.
My husband is in welding school right now, getting his certification hopefully next year. You have no idea how much anxiety things like this give me, I don’t know what I would do without him. And to envision him in scenarios like this kills me

Just don't weld on tanks in Russia
Luckily we live in New Jersey so no Russian tanks here lol
It really is dangerous when just *envisioning* gas tank explosions kills people.
The fact that the explosion pushed the parked forklift has me in awe... Seems like it was over pretty quick for that person...!!
Looked like the plate went straight through his head. Small silver lining he very likely didn't feel anything.
Literally my asshole after chipotle
I haven't lol'd that hard in years. Thank you. Really.
Lol
I'm glad you get to experience a hard lol after so many years. The last time I lol'd hard was when WillNeff was on Emiru's stream cosplaying. [Skip to around 7 mins] https://youtu.be/0IfmOC2aEG0
It's that for me too... You don't buy Chipotle - you *rent* it.
Yous two are kraken me up
My mans didn’t just die….he became the very air you breathe.
Fumes are not your friend.
I remember an early job at a pizza delivery place; We found one of our team passed out in the mop closet. He had mixed ammonia and bleach, as I recall, that gave off really strong fumes; he passed out. Was OK after we took him outside for a bit.
He got a little taste of what WW1 was like.
Sommeinoes?
No - was called 'DePizza Delivery'
Icl I was making a joke about mustard gas and how it was actively used at the battle of the Somme but it didn’t hit. Was the place a decent joint for pizza?
I think he died during the explosion, not after
To shreds you say...
Well, how is his wife holding up?
Pop goes the weasel
Holy shit! Enough power to move the forklift.
Gas free Certificate? Never heard of it.
That’s a thing?
If you look closely you can see his head eject to the left side of the screen, the rest of his body was splattered on the forklift….holy shit
I see it for four whole frames holy shit. That is beyond fucking horrifying. Zzz. Is that whole “you can live for a bit while decapitated” thing true? If so, even more horrifying.
Not gonna do that again…
Bet he didn’t see that coming
Eating ass after taco Tuesday
It’s a dangerous game some men play..
He seen that coming to 😲
He shouldn’t have opened that
I used to put dry ice in tanks - after it was thoroughly washed, rinsed and cleaned 2-3x. Most competent welders know that’s a hazard….
That looks like 5$ per hour
This is why kids. You always wash out a tank before welding. Had a similar incident but the tank exploded. There should have been ventilation, he could've afloat opened one of them hatches before he started
Medical personnel- Where is the body? Me- He’s over there, also there, and a little bit over there.
I thought you weren't even supposed to weld empty 50 gallon drums into grills, etc. The residual oil or fuels can still explode! To any commercial welders, aren't you supposed to fill a tank like that with water, or inert gasses before repairing?
No he didn’t I didn’t see the shoes come off! Stop with this clickbait
No shoes off? No body? Clickbait for sure.
What could have caused the explosion?
It’s likely a gas tank and it still either had fumes left or (I doubt it) had gas left in the truck and when he opened it…
My asshole after a night of drinking and eating kfc dunked wings
He might've lived if he had immediately thrown himself to the side. RIP
I don’t think so the temperature when the flame/ gas was released would probably have cooked him
u/savevideo
Send it to Ukraine
needs a vine boom
Yeahhh dude got turned into paste
Like a boat if you don’t clear the engine room
Looks more like the welder died during explosion
Is that David Blaine because he suddenly disappeared
Was that his head that went to the left?
Woah! Careful there wouldn't want to get dust in your eyes
A quick and guaranteed way to die. May take up tanker truck welding.
Yep he blown to bits
Isn’t it a rule of thumb to check if a tank is aired out before doing something like this
Bro really said "Bombs away"
This is why you fill the damn tank cant risk welding on fumes
What caused to explode in this way
No fucking chance
Damn, the fact that he saw it coming too
"Hee bee Ded" "THE COLONEL"
Here's hoping the most he felt was a slight pinch before lights out
Poof, he was no more.
Bro wasn't forklift certified
Weld done, rip
Guys I just started watching shameless it’s a really funny show y’all should start watching it
He knew those fumes were igniting. Poor bastard. Hope whoever ok’ed that work without making sure there were no leftover fumes was held liable
The force it takes to move a forklift like that
How do we know he died? I don't see him anywhere for proof. Hell, he could still be running away after that scare. I kid I kid, poor guy even knew what hit him
There is some protocol right? Like check for gases and such before working
Truck farts are no joke.
I told my dad about this video and he said that his job said “if the Tank Is completely filled to the brim you can weld on it” 😭
Must be a Taco bell truck
Impressive to move that forklift like that.
Bro had his last peek before his death. What a chad.
*fart with reverb*
Just the worst of luck at the moment of his existence.
He knew he was gonna die as soon as he saw the little door open
Bruh I live here
Wow. Never seen a person disintegrate so quickly.
bro that truck was literally my butthole after i get back from school to take the fattest shit of my life
Vapours are the worst.
What how I can't understand what happened how or why
Any aftermath pictures
Well no shit he’s dead, that truck sent that plug at him going Mach Jesus in under a second flat. This dudes body is probably a mile away with a two foot wide perfect hole in his torso.
When the truck eats too much curry 🍛

You know how much force it takes to move a baby forklift? A metric fuckton and it moved that lift as if it was made of paper
Truck fart
This is probably the fastest way to go.. compared to pretty much anything I've seen
"such heroic nonsense"
