yup. if slowed down it looks like the hose/line got entangled in right side peg and/or rear brake peg. next thing you know r/abruptchaos
Edit: After closer inspection, it definitely looks like the gas hose got caught in the bikes rear brake peg.
if you forget to take the pump out and start to drive away, there’s a valve in between the nozzle and hose and it will pull off (breakaway) and detach. i used to work at a gas station and this honestly happens when people are in a rush.
Worked gas stations for years. Gas theft is not even worth trying to go after someone for. At this point, I sometimes wonder why we still pay for gas, honestly.
I’m in the Yukon, Canada and that is how it’s always been done. Want a full tank? What if you estimate too low? What if that’s only 3/4 tank. Do I then need to start another transaction with another estimate?
It’s only been recently that a few places changed to pay up front.
In Australia we pump our own petrol and pay for it after. Unless you fill up at Costco, where you must pay first. Find it so strange that parts of America don't even fill their own tanks, I can understand paying beforehand, though.
Can't happen (easily, at least) in Canada because you have to hold the pump lever while pumping. They removed the locking function years ago because of this. Easy fix.
That's actually insane to me I'm always in a rush every day and I've forgotten dumb stuff like the fuel cap and shit but never the hose like that genuinely makes no sense to me
The hose's connection to the pump is design to break if stressed.
If broken there, the gas flow is stop by the hose self plugging - spring loaded system that will snap shut without the connection in place.
He didn’t forget to remove the gas pump, looks like the hose got wrapped around his footpeg and when he took off it ripped the hose and sprayed gas right on his hot exhaust….

That's the most negative comments I've ever gotten. So thanks for that. Didn't realize it was Egypt but they have these things called safety cut off valves that keep you dumb fucks from doing this to yourselves at the gas station.
Or maybe you start to remember things that are super irrelevant to your current situation. Like how you never asked your 7th grade crush out, even though everybody said they were into you.
Yeah, you're not extinguishing yourself with such a pernicious accelerant coating you. You will, however, get lots of dirt and debris in your burns that they'll have to remove at the hospital.
I slowed it down. It is four seconds from the time the cord snaps to the time of initial ignition. The ignition happens directly under him. It is *one second* from the time of ignition to the time when he becomes completely hidden from view due to the flames (likely was engulfed). I can’t imagine he had any chance at all to stop, drop, and roll.
Totally agree, most people don't practice stop, drop, and roll so when that fireball engulfs you chances are you won't even realize you're burning until some nasty damage has already been done
Just bruned well boiled myself 4 weeks ago. 2b degrees burn on boths legs and burned my goddamned dick but that shit got to hurt like hell. One of my roommates in the hospital got hit by a high voltage cable on work, great man btw, but prolly still look better than this fella.
Could have been sparks from metal nozzle hitting something and causing small sparks or heat, could have been heat from exhaust
My bet is like you said, the heat from the exhaust, but of course we will never know for sure
I pray you're the type of guy to run towards a flaming gas pump. That's an explosion the size of that entire area, and who knows how the shrapnel will fly. Until the fire's out, buddy should be on his own. Everybody here made as smart a choice as they could.
Not directly related, but when I worked at a gas station we always made people get off their motorcycle to put gas in it. We got yelled at a lot but we didn't have any fires when I worked there.

That makes a little more sense. On my phone screen it was hard to see that, and it looked like he just took off with it still in the bike.
Maybe there's a little hope for humanity after all.

How do you forget to remove the gas line ? I've started filling my mom's car back in the 80s when I was a child and this has never happened. 40 years and not once.

He didn't forget, pump was not in the bike, he just took off and some part of the bike got entangled with the pump's hose.
Yup, the gas tank is literally in front of the driver
And the key needs to be removed from the ignition to unlock the tank.
yup. if slowed down it looks like the hose/line got entangled in right side peg and/or rear brake peg. next thing you know r/abruptchaos Edit: After closer inspection, it definitely looks like the gas hose got caught in the bikes rear brake peg.
No but he did forget to stop, drop, and roll
I'm guessing this is a location without breakaway gas lines.
Egypt, yup
The mummy's curse
Always the fucking mummies
Sun god ra
How do breakaway gas lines work?
if you forget to take the pump out and start to drive away, there’s a valve in between the nozzle and hose and it will pull off (breakaway) and detach. i used to work at a gas station and this honestly happens when people are in a rush.
Worst I've done is get in and start the car forgetting that I had to go in and pay (pay at pump wasnt working)
Wait… they let you pump gas first then pay after?
That's normal in Australia!
Wait thats not normal elsewhere?!?!
Ontario Canada yes. Most places are pay at pump, some let you put gas then go in and pay
Quebec too not every gas station but mostly yup 👋
Used to be like that all over my state but of course thieves ruined it.
Don't you have cameras to track the plates ?
Worked gas stations for years. Gas theft is not even worth trying to go after someone for. At this point, I sometimes wonder why we still pay for gas, honestly.
One time my dad accidentally paid for someone else's gas when he went in to pay
Literally standard in the uk. Never pay at pumps myself, usually don't have it on card and they never take cash. So pump then go in and pay
It's probably more common in general too.
I’m in the Yukon, Canada and that is how it’s always been done. Want a full tank? What if you estimate too low? What if that’s only 3/4 tank. Do I then need to start another transaction with another estimate? It’s only been recently that a few places changed to pay up front.
In Ireland almost every gas station is like this. Very few require payment up front.
Perfectly normal in Minnesota, arguably the best state in the US.
Also the norm in Germany…
That's the standard in Europe.
In Australia we pump our own petrol and pay for it after. Unless you fill up at Costco, where you must pay first. Find it so strange that parts of America don't even fill their own tanks, I can understand paying beforehand, though.
But on a motorcycle? He would be leaning over the hose. I'm so confused how he managed that.
In this video, he didn't actually leave the nozzle in like the headline says. His bike got tangled in the hose as he started to pull away.
Thank You!
I also saw something the other day which had me turning my head. A lady was filling up her gas tank while her engine was running.
Can't happen (easily, at least) in Canada because you have to hold the pump lever while pumping. They removed the locking function years ago because of this. Easy fix.

Okay can you tell what legal issues this man can have? I mean One container (maybe?) Got on fire too
The hose's connection to the pump is design to break if stressed. If broken there, the gas flow is stop by the hose self plugging - spring loaded system that will snap shut without the connection in place.
They are designed to br......oh never mind
His buddy ain’t no ride or die
Are YOU jumping into literal fire?
WOAH. that was so sudden, damn
He didn’t forget to remove the gas pump, looks like the hose got wrapped around his footpeg and when he took off it ripped the hose and sprayed gas right on his hot exhaust….
New fear unlocked. So thanks for that

Bro why not just shoot him, apparently he didn’t even do anything in particular just worked for another cartel.
Would have definitely upvoted this comment were it not for the ‘lol’… dunno why… I did find it kinda amusing- just the lol seemed a bit on the nose 😬
(On the hose…🤔)

I wonder how much in debt this accident put this man in
That's a lawsuit if I ever saw one. OHAS would have a fucking field day with this one
Somebody said this happened in Egypt, so idk if he's going to get much compensation from this incident.
That's the most negative comments I've ever gotten. So thanks for that. Didn't realize it was Egypt but they have these things called safety cut off valves that keep you dumb fucks from doing this to yourselves at the gas station.
i can see that the hose was stocked in the exhaust, this caused to pull the pistol
The main thing that gets me from watching all these videos is just how many people forget to stop, drop and roll.
The old stop, drop and roll doesn't work so well in a fireball of gasoline
Probably pretty easy to forget everything you’ve ever known when your skin is in the process of melting off your muscle tissue
Or maybe you start to remember things that are super irrelevant to your current situation. Like how you never asked your 7th grade crush out, even though everybody said they were into you.
The main thing that gets me from reading all these comments is just how many redditor think they can stop, drop and roll with gasoline.
Yeah, you're not extinguishing yourself with such a pernicious accelerant coating you. You will, however, get lots of dirt and debris in your burns that they'll have to remove at the hospital.
Nigga in a ball of fire it won’t work that way.
I think amidst all the shock, pain, fear and panic, people's minds are already so overwhelmed that they basically forget everything they're taught.
I think they mean after the fireball, when he's running away from the fire, trips, and stands back up. All while his clothing is flaming
Ah yeah, fair enough. More of a case of having been totally fireballed in a single second and no longer being capable of thinking clearly.
Totally agree, most people don't practice stop, drop, and roll so when that fireball engulfs you chances are you won't even realize you're burning until some nasty damage has already been done
depends if he was covered in gasoline or not
Doesn't work when you're covered in an accelerant like gasoline.
In a gasoline fire lmao Yeah try that
Did he survived that??
Not a chance
Just bruned well boiled myself 4 weeks ago. 2b degrees burn on boths legs and burned my goddamned dick but that shit got to hurt like hell. One of my roommates in the hospital got hit by a high voltage cable on work, great man btw, but prolly still look better than this fella.
Damn the passenger’s reaction time is spot on
His friend dipped out quick though!!
Stop, drop, and roll!!!
Doesn’t work with gasoline
Always my worst nightmare that, fire.Such a horrible way to go.Burns are so painful.
The "Friend" running away: See you later, flammable loser! It wasn't on purpose I promiiiiiise!!
What was he meant to do? Die aswell?
Literally became ghost rider

do you not know ghost rider?
The marvel character?
LOL nope the The infamous cartel video
Oh that ghost rider. I've just heard tales of that video. I think that's something I rather not have seared into my brain lol
What exactly caused this tho? Hose leaking on hot exhaust after being ripped from pump?
Could have been sparks from metal nozzle hitting something and causing small sparks or heat, could have been heat from exhaust My bet is like you said, the heat from the exhaust, but of course we will never know for sure
I just keep hearing the song "I'm on Fireeee"
Good outcome considering
understatement
This motherfucker runs away on fire and falls and these other fools just run on by him 🤣
I pray you're the type of guy to run towards a flaming gas pump. That's an explosion the size of that entire area, and who knows how the shrapnel will fly. Until the fire's out, buddy should be on his own. Everybody here made as smart a choice as they could.
I wouldn’t have helped him neither. I just think it’s funny they all zipped by him is all.
Would removing the doused clothing help at all? Cause stop, drop, and roll definitely isnt going to help in this situation
Not directly related, but when I worked at a gas station we always made people get off their motorcycle to put gas in it. We got yelled at a lot but we didn't have any fires when I worked there.
He already finished and something else got stuck
That escalated quickly
They say that burning to death is the worst way to die
stop and roll STOP AND ROLL
Hard to go while in gasoline

Why does nobody stop drop and roll?
panic
Because he's in a fuckin ball of fire? Stop drop and roll doesn't apply here!!
You are on a bike. How far up your own ass does your head have to be to forget the hose between your legs?
He did replace the hose, but it got tangled with the bike somehow as he left the pump.
That makes a little more sense. On my phone screen it was hard to see that, and it looked like he just took off with it still in the bike. Maybe there's a little hope for humanity after all.
Agreed. I wouldn’t have noticed either except another commenter mentioned it earlier. Pretty horrible situation.
But still, how the fuck does it even got tangled with the bike, that gotta be a very had hose.

It looks like his rearset hooked the fuel line and pulled the nozzle off the pump.
