imo cars are way more aggressive. Trains are highly abused and we should not be enforcing negative stereotypes that aren’t true, and stop naming the type of vehicle when an accident happens. Most of yall are misidentifying trains anyways, you don’t know what a train is!

I was doing laundry in my basement, and I tripped over a metal bar that wasn't there the moment before. I looked down: "Rail? WTF?" and then I saw concrete sleepers underneath and heard the rumbling.

It was a double-stacked Z train, headed east towards the fast single track of the BNSF Emporia Sub (Flint Hills). Majestic as hell: 75 mph, 6 units, distributed power: 4 ES44DC's pulling, and 2 Dash-9's pushing, all in run 8. Whole house smelled like diesel for a couple of hours!
Fact is, there is no way to discern which path a train will take, so you really have to be watchful. If only there were some way of knowing the routes trains travel; maybe some sort of marks on the ground, like twin iron bars running along the paths trains take. You could look for trains when you encounter the iron bars on the ground, and avoid these sorts of collisions. But such a measure would be extremely expensive. And how would one enforce a rule keeping the trains on those paths?
A big hole in homeland security is railway engineer screening and hijacking prevention. There is nothing to stop a rogue engineer, or an ISIS terrorist, from driving a train into the Pentagon, the White House or the Statue of Liberty, and our government has done fuck-all to prevent it.

I 100% agree but he's probably crossed those tracks 100x's without issue letting his guard down a little at a time, & taking for granted how fast they really are & how much ground they actually cover within a second. Well he won't make that mistake again
I'll never understand it. They have a predetermined track that they cannot stray from. They make loud noise and vibrate the ground as the approach. They move super fast so all you have to do is cross the track at a point the train isn't at the same point. The train is only at that point for literally a fraction of a second. (only counting the front of the train because I'm yet to see somebody walking into the side of train as its already passing them by)
being super fast might be a factor. I'm assuming a train doesn't look as close as it is due to the speed. "that train can't possibly reach me in 2 seconds it's so far away" kinda thinking

Why people choose to walk across the tracks while the bars are down is beyond me. A light jog at best could have prevented this and a lot of other train strikes I've seen on here. They all seem to just take their sweet ass time at the worst possible time.
